I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and spend time with many German natives. They tend to prefer the food at Jorg's Café Vienna (Plano) and Everything German (Hurst). I'm American and think the food at Bavarian Grill decent. I like Everything German but don't like their schnitzels because the oil they use has a fast food flavor about it. Jorg's is consistently good and is my preferred place to get German/Austrian food outside my own kitchen. Many years ago there was a wonderful place in Dallas called Hoffstetter's Spargel Café but its owners decided to close and do something else. My heart broke on that day because it truly was the best place to be found outside of Germany.

So sad about the birthday cake. I had the same experience at an Irish pub here in Louisville only I had just gotten a large coffee at a local roasters and was nixed by the owner himself who said it was against the law. We stayed and I put it on the bench next to me and snuck a sip now and then. I understand they want to sell their own but once in awhile stretching the rules is good for the soul!

I was going to celebrate my 65th birthday here with 11 friends. I had a special birthday cake and was told that it was against the law to take my cake in. I told the manager that I was not going to Celebrate there and he said ok. Well they lost at least 9 customers tonight and at least $400.00. My wife called the Manager back and told him that it was not illegal to take my cake in and he was not concerned and said that is what the Owner said to tell people. I guess they just don't care

Its just low class to try and take food to a restaurant.
      What next?
You going to complain because you cant take your own beer to a tavern?
Mabey you have a special birthday beer.
The owner was right to tell you to not come.
I hope next time you have a dinner party, people bring they're own food, yours isnt special enough.
