  • Ariel’s MOM Revealed A Shocking Secret Between Ursula and Triton
Ursula might not have turned out to be the evil sea witch that we know her to be if it hadn’t been for Ariel’s mom, Athena, in the Little Mermaid. After reading the book, “Poor Unfortunate Soul: A Tale of the Sea Witch,” it’s clear that there was a lot more going on behind the scenes, especially between Ursula and Triton, and even Athena when you get into the finer details of the story. According to the novel, Ursula lost all sense of normalcy at a young age, and the only person who ended up showing her kindness was actually Ariel’s mother, Athena. In fact, at times it seemed like the only reason Ursula was still alive was because of how hard Athena fought King Triton over the matter, but even then, it turned out not to be enough.
In today's video, we look at how Ariel’s MOM Revealed A Shocking Secret Between Ursula and Triton...Keep watching to see the truth behind the theory of King Triton and Ursula being siblings, King Triton's hidden rage, and how what happened to Ariel’s mom, ended up affecting the course of King Triton and Ursula's familial relationship. This video dives deep into Ursula's backstory based on Serena Valentino's novel, "Poor Unfortunate Soul: A Tale of the Sea Witch."

As a die hard fan of the little mermaid, its hard for me to see this story as more than fanfiction. The movie is very clear about Ursula's intentions with the crown. She was banished for trying to overthrown Triton and endangering the lives of merpeople. All the people trapped in her lair are victims of her scheams and not because shes a tortured soul, but because she doesnt value other peoples lives. She sees them as pathetics and never regretted what she did. Triton even tho harsh and unreasonable, is a loving father who actually regrets his bad actions and gets to learn with Ariel and none of that wouldve happen if he was as discribed in this book.

The book is a non-canon retelling/remake of backstories. The movie sequel and the tv prequel series provide real backstory for Ursula. She was a member of an enemy race of the merfolk (called the Cecaelia), she was not Triton's sister (that was the original idea that was dropped from the movie but kept in the stage musical). Ursula lived with her mother and sister (Morgana), and was dotted on by her mother while her sister was ridiculed. Ursula eventually tried to overthrow the royal family with her magic and was banished for it.

Except that was cheaply made and didn't feel consistent either. This doesn't too, don't get me wrong, but the sequel series didn't feel authentic. Ursula had a cheap, knock off sister with an inferiority complex....to a character who was as bitter as she was sadistic?
The original outline of her character was enough. Her full past is ambitious, as an adult she was obviously a gifted magic user in Atlantis, she grew arrogant and more sadistic, until whatever relationship Ursula and Triton had fell apart after some 'close calls'. She was banished and she became bitter and more sadistic.

ursula and triton being siblings makes sense because they seem to be the few that have any sort of power. they'd likely be half siblings, since morgana in the 2nd movie mentions being ursula's sister but no mention of being related to triton. so ursula would be half witch half god. and it doesn't necessarily need to be an tentacle lady getting it on with poseidon, although based on the 2nd movie, i do think that's the case. the gods could procreate with anything and it could result in anything, the creatures that came from the gods before the olympians had multiple arms and legs and eyes.

The sad part is she allowed herself to be so negatively influenced by these events (it'd be hard not to) that it created a permanent negative relationship with her niece. In another video you talked about how Ursula had a mother loved her more than Morgana and a bunch of sisters through Psiden. But here you say that she spent her early childhood with an adopted father and lived in a village in which she was out of place and the population eventually hated her because of her looks. I don't understand how these stories go together if they do. Could you please explain it so it will make more sense.

That's why I thought Ursula was so angry with Triton and Ariel, who looks so much like her mother ..

I feel like it's honestly much akin to the Greek mythologies where in trying to prevent some future disaster the characters of the story inevitably create it through their very actions. He thought she'd be some kinda way so in trying to just get rid of her to prevent that he actually pushed her on the path to be exactly what he feared most. If it WAS a Greek mythology she would have overthrown him for real though.

i think Triton have a lot of problems him self, control issues or jealousy maybe, to think that he would immediate exile his sister right after the passing of his loved one which is also the only one stopping him from kicking Ursula out. Ursula story is tragic, and personally i don't think that is how she should be treated, how ever it does not give her the free pass to do some or multiple bad things. i believed that there might be a possibility that if Triton have not kick Ursula out or even have an ounce of love for his sister, they might accept each other and have a better family bond over mourning over wife and a best friend. this back story of Ursula, for me personally, kindda relate to reality. it shows how messed up our society is. Knowing someone's back story is one thing. That doesn't negate that person's decisions later in life. Ursula could've made much better decisions on how she dealt with Triton. Even if Athena was no longer in the picture. One was to prove her worth despite her physical appearance. Not to Triton, but to the other mer-people. Since her decision was to enact revenge, she is still the villain who forced Triton into sacrificing himself for his daughter. That doesn't make Triton anyone's hero despite what Ursula did to her brother and niece. He's actually a freaking bigot from beginning to end. That doesn't make Ursula a victim. It just makes her blinded by her own vengeance. Which still would've ended in her own destruction.

If they were siblings then their father is most likely Poseidon the God of the sea, so these stories should have more connections with Greek mythology and so the idea of them sharing the throne is laughable. Really comes off as fanfiction (and not the popular type), I'm sure there are other stories out there painting Ursala as an even more evil character then the movie, she may be a villain that is liked, but I think it's more "like to hate" and not the kind of "like" where we want her to change, be good, and live happily ever after because if that happened she wouldn't be the character we all like.

Neither were right (Triton and Ursula) yet neither were wrong either. It's kind of like a self-fulfilling-prophesy type situation. Triton sends her away and never gets along with her (refusing to almost) thinking she was a monster and would always be a monster, but in doing so Created the monster she would become. While Ursula was also in a difficult spot because of the tragedy that happened to her father.Which basically caused her to start to snap, and then losing her one friend and being banished in a short time only finished the process. But if I had to pick which sibling it all boiled down to as having started it: it would be Triton for getting rid of Ursula as a baby just because of the way she looked.

But he could not be with her to royal duty and preferred Triton's mother and baby Triton. Mother of Ursula started hating him and some hate was given to Ursula too. Then she found man and she told Ursula that is her father (basically stepfather). Meanwhile Ursula's mother got another daughter with someone when Ursula's stepfather died. Younger Morgana was born. But because Ursula's mother still loved but hated Poseidon she gave more live to Ursula then Morgana and how sister riot is started. Everything is clear.

Example: Ursula says "In my day, we had fantastical feasts when I lived in the palace." She made digs at "fish folk" & the mer people regarded her as an evil sea witch, even though some kept going to her & princess Ariel. But where did she learn that stuff? Ursula couldn't have been the only octopus being. There may have been other octopus witch beings who lived lavishly at the palace too, since she acts so snobbish, but dwindled down, were frowned upon.

Ultimately she was the one who chose to be bitter and act on revenge that lead to her death. You can either fall to the trenches or rise above them and be better. Was Triton right? If he saw her change even unchecked then perhaps he was however at that point he was also responsible because he could have prevented it. Perhaps what he really saw was her gaining the crown and didn’t like it. However my question is how young were they and if he was a child then the timeline is a bit off
