Can’t forget Morgana. A better theory that actually uses true mythology(and the actual movie does seem to use some real myth,) is they are in fact siblings but more step siblings if anything. Both Triton and the Sisters(Ursula and Morgana,) are fathered by Poseidon, but they both have different mothers. Triton being mothered by the sea Goddess, Amphitrite, while the sisters were mothered by either just some random cecaelia; or a sea nymph who was known for her ocean witchcraft, Calypso. The powers of Calypso can be dark(especially if they were used for an affair or such,) so they branded/cursed her daughters to be the hideous merfolk species, but they were gifted their mothers dark magic which later in life would be what gets them exiled from the kingdom. On another non cannon add on to that more likely theory, is that Ursula and Hook did in fact know each other at the least. Not only in Ariels Beginning we see Athena, Ariel’s Mother, was in fact killed by pirates; but in the Descendants universe Ursula has a daughter named Uma who chooses a pirate lifestyle over her mother’s witchy lifestyle. That lifestyle could be a hint to her father potentially being Hook. As for the pirates(potentially being hooks pirates,) who killed Athena, Ursula could have made a deal with them and gave them the location of where the merfolk liked to gather with their guards down; as part of her revenge to get the trident. The plan could have been to assassinate Triton, so that she could take the trident easily after her brother’s death; but backfired killing Athena in the end.
This Triton isn't THAT Triton. There's like a 3000 year ago between Hercules and The Little Mermaid, and the Little Mermaid Series shows that King Triton is the grandson of King Neptune (who clearly isn't Poseidon). So Ariel's dad is at least King Triton II, but he's more likely the 100th or more.
@@chadbadzik7754 you do realize Neptune is just the roman version of the greek Poseidon… Neptune is Poseidon. Also yes the events of Hercules may have happen 3000 years before TLM, but with god’s being practically immortal Poseidon(aka Neptune) would still have been around in Ariels time; just not as worshipped as back in Hercules time. Besides just as the sequels aren’t exactly cannon the tv shows definitely wouldn’t be and aren’t cannon.
@@michaelkeele8077 Thanks for being condescending, but yes: I am aware of Roman mythology. That doesn't change the fact that in Disney, Poseidon has a descendant named Neptune. Familial names can and are repeated, especially in monarchies. Such as King Henry VIII.
"Poor Unfortunate Souls" by Serena Valentino stated that Ursula and Triton are brother and sister and that Ursula felt shitty dor what she was doing to Ariel because she looked like Athena and Athena was the only one was really nice to Ursula.
oh yeah and in the second movie (I think King Triton said it) only family members or descendants can use the triton so basically they should be siblings
Ursula is a main character in the 2016 young adult novel Poor Unfortunate Soul: A Tale of the Sea Witch by Serena Valentino. The novel is the third entry of the "Villains" series, a shared universe that crosses over various theatrical Disney films including Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Sleeping Beauty. In this novel, Ursula is King Triton's younger sister who was betrayed by him as a child for choosing a tentacled form instead of a mermaid's tail, and grew up as a human in the town of Ipswich with an adoptive human father. Ursula returned to the sea when her adopted father was killed by the townsfolk for protecting her, befriending Athena, Queen of Atlantica, but was denied her inheritance by Triton and banished to the shadows. Ursula conspires with three other witches to steal Triton's soul and become ruler of all the seas, but is ultimately defeated.
@@bluewolf2166 It depends on where you view it from. If you go with the original Disney story as the live action version does then no. If you follow the 1989 film yes. If you follow the 1989 film, forget the sequel and prequel and follow the book then no. I hope that makes sense lol
I think the whole Vanessa appearance was just Ursula’s way to TRY and look like Ariel…. With her voice and some of her looks it would have fooled Eric easier (apart from the spell she cast on him) I don’t think it’s meant to be that deep. BUT I did enjoy hearing it.
I love how you tied the theory of Ursula's banishment with Captain Hook and Neverland. It really isn't a far stretch to think that Peter Pan's nemesis could have been part of the reason why King Triton lost his wife and thus began to hate humans. I met Margaret Kerry (the model for Tinkerbell) a few years ago at a Disney convention I attended and she said that the red-haired mermaid in Neverland is Ariel's grandmother so that definitely ties in with your theory. If you want to learn more about possible connections between The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan, I highly recommend Serena Valentino's Disney villains book series as well as the Peter and the Starcatchers series by Ridley Pearson.
@@w1nterdays well the beautiful thing about art is that it's open to interpretation and there's nothing wrong with having two completely different perceptions of it. 🙂
I think the brother/sister theory is most accurate. Growing up I always thought that Ursula just turned herself into Ariel as a brunette. Vanessa looks EXACTLY like Ariel, just a different hair color because obviously she can not mirror her completely otherwise people would be confused that there are two Ariels. But considering she stole Ariels voice and is using that to hypnotize Eric, and also considering that Vanessa looks exactly like Ariel as a brunette, I just always thought that’s exactly what it was - Ursula turning herself into as close of a clone of Ariel as she could get without it being too obvious. And also to fit in with Eric's hazy recollections of the woman on the beach (Ariel) 🤷🏼♀️
Well, according to the Broadway musical, Ursula is Triton’s sister. Their father Poseidon gave Triton the trident and Ursula to nautilus. I think Ursula was jealous of Triton and wanted the trident so she could be more powerful or something with both artifacts. Been a while since I’ve seen it.
Actually the sibling one holds more of a torch of accuracy than the other two especially since in Ariel's beginning you actually witness the passing of Ariel's mom. Her dad saved his daughters and she went back for a music box but the fins of her tail became trapped and she couldn't escape as a ship had crushed her. Rumor went around it was Captain hooks ship that crashed and took her life...but idk if I believe that part of it. There is also the theory that Hercules is also her cousin based off actual mythology
Ariel and Hercules would in fact be first cousins once removed. Also Hercules would technically be Ariels Uncle as well given the fact Ariels mother, Athena, is Hercules half sister. There’s a lot of messed up family lineage within their tree.
The Hercules Animated Series shows Triton son of Poseidon, and he's not Ariel's dad. More likely Hercules's cousin is Ariel's great-great-great-great-great-great-great..... Great-great grandfather.
@@chadbadzik7754 again as I have stated in my other reply, the tv shows definitely aren’t considered cannon to the original movies story. Not only aren’t they cannon but there are various reasons as to why they look different in each “story,” as the art directors could have been different for each project.
Actually there's also a possibility Ursula gave clues in her song and things she did when she was human and she was telling her use her looks pretty face and body language and start to talk about what men up there don't like. She was probably singing from experience and she who holds her tongue gets a man and she who gossips is a bore what true gentleman avoid.
In my canon Ursula was once a mermaid called Vanessa and was Triton’s sister. He was granted the trident over her and she started experimenting with forbidden magic aka witchcraft to become a human to be with a human she fell for after Triton refused to change her fins into legs. I actually kinda dig the whole VanessaXHook theory as in Japanese mythology eating mermaid flesh is rumored to grant eternal youth, so that’s definitely a reason, let alone if they could force imprisoned mermaids to collect sunken treasures for them as scuba diving didn’t exist back then. After Athena was unfortunately crushed by his ship, Triton destroyed it and Vanessa escaped, but because she caused the death of the queen Triton banished her from Atlantica and her beauty potion to become a human was cursed into “as beautiful as you are is as hideous and grotesque you will become” hence she became a morbidity obese old octopus. She cursed Hook for using her love to his advantage, but she hated Triton more, and would wait in the wings for the perfect moment to get even and eventually claimed what she thought was rightfully her’s, his crown and trident. Now as for Morgana she was created after Triton and Ursula being siblings story was scrapped, they thought it’d be too dark for Ariel to kill her own aunt, despite in Lion King Simba almost killed his own Uncle Scar and was forced to fight his own cousins who took orders from Zira, aka Scar’s mate/Aunt Zira
Before the making of little mermaid 2 there was a thought to make her his sister. Even the Broadway musical said this. They ended up removing that part to make it more mysterious
There is a third movie called Ariel beginning where it shows Ariel at a young age with all her sister , mom ,dad and other mermaids sitting on rocks. Until a ship crashes into them and evening survives expect Ariel’s mom.
Honestly, as much as I know people are gonna hate me for it, Ursula wasn't entirely in the wrong. 1) she was running a business 2) when talking with Ariel, she honestly was pretty transparent about her business and terms (which she KNOWS is shady, and yet still was clear and lied not at all). 3) most people with half a brain wouldn't dream of selling their voice and risking belonging to this shady af witch who just told you she turns people into burnt shrimp thingies if they don't fulfill their ends of the deal. But Ariel is quite stupid, going this far and putting herself and her friends in harms way and abandoning her family for a guy she just met. Like... *literally* just met, she hadn't even TALKED to him. She fell in love with his LOOKS. In conclusion, I literally hold no sympathy for Ariel. Ursala was so Transparent with her shadiness, you should have seen the twist where she tries to steal the man and sabotage the deal (who's name I literally never remember bc we barely know ANYTHING about him) a MILE away.
I like the one of Ursula & hook falling in love, as this also is shown in once upon a time where she developed feelings for hook, but he betrayed her. It may also explain where her necalace comes from, as her father posidon steals her voice in a golden natulas shell becouse it reminds him of her mother who was killed by pirates ( basically Ariel's mother's death as-well) if so, then this can reveal how she was able to take Ariel's voice
For the upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid, set to come out next year, they do have plans to show Ursula’s backstory AND how she and King Triton are brother and sister.
Ursula is the king’s half sister. The prior king had two wives and each had a child. Let’s say that the king picked his male heir to inherit although Ursula is older than her brother and or her mother is a lesser wife. Her mother wasn’t a mermaid maybe a human who was made into one or even a different type which would explain her daughter’s being octopus mermaids. So when it came time to pass the triton to the heir Ursula was slighted. Her brother looked down on her and banished her because she can challenge him for the throne. Her mother may have been a witch and she may have had another child before she met the king. Her people was being wiped out by the mermaids either by violence like war or she was brought to Triton’s father because she’s unique and a tribute between two kingdoms. I’m thinking more like slave and daughter. She became a concubine. Ursula was treated well because she was a child of the king. Her sister not so much. Her mother then taught her daughters magic. Ursula fell in love but due to racism no merman would want a relationship with her so she found love with a human. But that didn’t work out because of her brother interfering. Her falling for a human felt like betrayal. His wife dying caused him to cut all ties to her and hate her. So it wasn’t just business it became personal.
Ursula is Triton’s sister and she fell in love with a human Vanessa but Vanessa was Captain Hook’s sister. She loved Ursula too and in a tragic turn of fate when Triton found out about the two lovers he forced them to separate. Vanessa fell ill due to the heartbreak and in her grief walked into the sea and drowned. Hook found out and helped Ursula escape from her brothers captivity. He then told her what happened to Vanessa and in an act of revenge she lured her sister in law to the surface and helped Captain Hook kill her and other merpeople. Triton found out and in his grief he “changed her body to match her heart.” And banished her to the darkest area of the ocean. Now the hatred from being forced away and losing her love twisted Ursula’s mind even more and her body was forced more and more into an octopus shape as a way to show how her heart and mind were unraveling from anger hate depression and confusion about values in her family and life. This continues until Ariel grew up and seeing how she was interested in humans she recognized a part of herself in her. But due to the baggage that drove her to madness with her brother she wasn’t able to healthily help Ariel. She had to use Ariel to “get revenge” on her brother for Vanessa’s death and the banishment. And so she enacted the contract. In the little mermaid 2 the second sea witch is actually Vanessa who lost her memories and was taught by Ursula’s master. The master had found her on the edge of death in the sea and Vanessa, believing Ursula had abandoned her begged to be changed and to forget her love for Ursula. So when she spoke of her to melody she didn’t remember how much she loved her but still needed to get revenge for her death. She also became an octopus because she had fallen in to madness because of betrayal from Ursula. That’s my theory at least.😁
Here’s my theory: Ursula is Triton’s sister or step sister, only she was more power hungry he is. When the throne was given to Triton, she schemed, plotted, and used any means necessary to take the throne from him. It got really bad, and Triton turned her into a octopus monster and banished her. As for Vanessa, she might’ve been a real human, but instead of falling in love with Ursula, Ursula killed Vanessa, assumes her identity and manipulates other humans to serve her own agenda on land. Another theory: she was Triton’s advisor during his early years as king, before Sebastian. And was also scheming behind his back to take the throne.
The second sea with in 2 isnt Ursulas lover nope shes morgana her younger sister they Rivaled like scar and mufasa Morgana mentioned their mothers favourite child was Ursula Morgana hated to be in urusulas shadow and always compared she didnt that to melody in the german dub both Ursula and Morgana are tritons half sisters
Even in Daddy's Little Angel (a song from one if the Broadway versions where they reintroduced that plot point) it says that even as a little girl she was "ugly as a slug"
Well, she and morgana can handle the Trident. Only ones who are blood related can hold the trident. Unless Ursula and morgana is a mixed race octopus/Mermaid, the chance of her originally being a mermaid is pretty high. lol. And I mean, it seems Triton and sebastian are both VERY familiar with morgana, maybe they are half related to Triton. Just had different mothers. They could have cursed that whole side of the family. maybe they were all involved in whatever went down. Like they planned together to take down triton. If royalty, Tritons father could have had a lover and had bastard children with them. Which could explain wanting to take over the thrown and also being at some point treated the same as the royalty.
Nice!! You could make Lady Tremaine's backstory! My theory is that when Ursula was a teenage mermaid she liked human things and when she was sitting one day out of the water she attacked by pirates and they tried to kill her, but she survived and when she went home with blood in her body Triton told her that their father was killed by humans, when he became king she was practicing black magic to give promises to mermaids( pour unfortunate souls) and put them at her garden to feel better with herself after her abuse and her father's death by pirates. She was teaching that dark magic to their younger sister Morgana. Triton finds out and he punished them by throw them away to be far from each other and made them octopus. And Ariel was Triton's favourite daughter cause her personality reminded him his sister, who loved very much, that's why he didn't kill her at the end of the little mermaid and made the deal to take part at her garden.
I had a book of Disney stories and it had a short story in it of Ursella and Titan as kids and they were children. I was only 7 and it was a Disney book of bedtime stories my grandma kept in her guest room that was a nursery for my mom and uncles.
In Kingdom Hearts, they basically say that Ursula and King Triton are brother and sister. After everything I've seen over the years, I truly believe that they are siblings more than lovers.
2:34 “Meaning that if she was respected in one way or another, this was before she turned into a morbidly obese sea witch.” Dang, poor Ursula! Loses her respect and good looks all because of those fantastical feasts and Triton’s curse!
I juss thought of something. What if they were siblings and Ursula was next in line for the throne. But she met a sea witch and she became fascinated with witchcraft. Once her family found out about this she was banished because they thought she was evil and would end up trying to hurt someone or something. So once she was cast away from her home she did become evil, and she hated Triton for taking her throne away from her which would explain why she hated him so much and why she wanted the throne so much. So she soon became this evil sea witch that everyone hated and became the villan they thought she was. This would soon lead her to trying to use Arial to take back her rightful spot as queen of the ocean and to get revenge on her younger brother for stealing that spot away from her to begin with. Just a thought
You're theories are very good. I don't think Ursula and Triton aren't siblings because Ursula is an octopin and Triton's a merman. I think Ursula is no doubt jealous of Triton's throne, of course when she lived in Triton's kingdom. Triton welcomed Ursula to his kingdom and years after she wanted the job as ruler of the sea or be queen at Triton's side. But Triton refused, forcing Ursula to just steal his throne and Triton spotted her true intentions and he banished her.
The original version of fathoms below deleted song made by Disney tells of Ursula as Tritons sister and that story. There is also a song from the musical called "I want the good times back" which explains alot as well. (The material would have to be pre approved by Disney as okay content. My high-school did a beauty of the beast production for the drama club that we had to get special permissions for. There was an entire discussion on it prior to starting ANYTHING with the entire cast and all crew. Members.) But yeah both songs can be found on RUclips 🥰 check them out if you get the chance.
Actually in the Broadway musical of the little mermaid. Trtin and ursula wee siblings. Ursula was the one ugly child amongst 8 mermaids sisters(including Morgana) and was neglected by poseidon(her and triton dad). But one day her father gave her the magic shell which gave her powers so she used that to kill the rest of her sisters so she could Rule. But then triton was born and she tried to kill him too but failed. Then she was banished. That's the Broadway version though.
Both Triton and the sisters(Ursula and Morgana,) share a father, but have different mothers. Tritons mother would have been the Ocean Goddess Amphitrite, while the sisters would have been mothered by some random cecaelia or the sea nymph Calypso; most likely through an affair.
@@stevenhiggins3055 thats what I have been saying to others, but at the same time if you were to consider it canon; then Athena could be goddess Athena as nowhere do they mention that she isn’t. Since they don’t mention that you can’t say she isn’t Goddess Athena, just as you can’t definitely say she is.
@@stevenhiggins3055Yes they are. They are continuation especially with Disney. I don’t know where you crazy people are getting te idea that it isn’t canon.
Not gonna lie I tend to like the Disney villains better than their protagonist or I’ll end up liking them just as much but I always feel bad for the villains in the end not that I condone what they did but like the video brought out. They have these Backstories that explains why they now do the stuff that they do. Sometimes I even wish they would turn around from their bad ways when help is offered to them. There is a “classic take my hand” but then they bat it away and then they usually end up falling. Disney is known for killing of villains by them falling. 😄 But yeah very good video.
I think my there is another theory. Because when Ariel became mom, the villain there is Ursula's sister. Besides she mentioned that she lived in the castle untill her mother was kicked out. So to be exact, she might only be a little older than Ariel despite her looks. If you want to confine, you can see her younger sister. While Ariel became a mom, her sister looks like an aunt. I think that her mother might be the villain who appeared in the Ariel's childhood who want to have the crab's position. But if you look at this, there might be some connection. But instead of directing her anger towards the crab, she might target the King, isn't that explain a little?
I think the first one is the most logical because despite the Easter eggs not all Disney universes connect and only recently has one showed super strong connection which would be Tangled and Frozen
I would like to go with the theory of the Peter Pan intertwined with Little mermaid because if you look when there was the three mermaids on the rock with Captain Hook you can see a girl with black hair on the other side so it was Ariel's mom and then you see this random girl and then a black haired mermaid on the other side it could be a possibility that she was jealous of Ariel's mom because Captain Hook probably gave her more attention and then she wanted revenge which would have been where she can give Ariel's mom legs and they could kill her and that's how Ariel's mom died and then she could be the one to come up and be with Captain Hook but it could be to where he didn't like her like that which caused her to be mean and then turn into a monster basically jealousy turn her into a monster That's my theory
There’s a series of books by Disney called my side of the story. One side tells the story in the point of view of the princess and the other side tells the story from the villains point of view. In the Little Mermaid, Ursula was actually in love with Triton and was trying to get him to notice her. After the battle, she became a massage therapist and hopes that Triton will come see her for a massage.
That makes a lot of sense considering Ursula’s obsession with him. Especially when she went “whyyy Kiing Triiiton... UHUHUHUH, how are youuu?” it seemed very flirty to me. Too bad he didn’t have feelings for her, probably doesn’t help that she’s an obese and manly octopus woman though.
The little mermaid is my favorite movie so I’ve picked up some things from the movie. Ursula used to rule Atlantica she said she lived in the palace. I believe she ruled things badly so triton battled her to rule. Or the mother or nothing and Ursula battled him. If you have seen the little mermaid two they said only a descendant can remove the triton from its place. Ursula never attempted because she knew that. So there’s no way they are siblings. There is a rumor that she used to be a mermaid most of her family was mermaids until triton cursed them into octopuses. But that’s just something I heard. I kind of believe Ursula spent a lot of time as a human. Because when she became human she didn’t struggle and could function normally. A girl happened to mention that hook could potentially be Ursula’s father which I kind of believe it and feel that she might of spent much of her time on land overall.
The reason why Ursula tried to take the trident is because she was jeleous of Tritons power. You wouldn’t in the first movie have been scheming and then using the trident if she wasn’t a descendant of Poiseden. That is why they are half siblings and why Triton knows so much about Morgana because they are related. You would know that if you paid better attention, so you obviously don’t pay as good of attention as you thought. If you look at the ship song in the beginning of the movie it hints at them being siblings. Hook isn’t Ursula’s father for sure or else she wouldn’t be able to use the trident. By the way they are actually lovers like it said in the video. Watch Descendants films to see what I mean. Uma is Ursula’s daughter and since she is a pirate the only father can be Captain Hook, so it isn’t possible for him to be Ursula’s father. So sorry but I’m saying it again you really don’t know your Disney films and facts or you wouldn’t be making false theiroes.
but you forget the fact Ursula has her half sister in the little mermaid 2 which shows how she was always an octopus creature. this also show that she is the half sister of triton
Not buying Ursula and Triton being siblings even if there was initially a storyline that called for it. When you look at the scene in this vid where Ursula has Ariel by the wrist and she's talking to Triton Ursula is being VERY s*xually suggestive towards him. The way her fingers glide and caress the tip of his trident _and_ the way she goes behind him and uses her tentacle to caress the highest spike of his crown... those are suggestive teases. Children won't notice it, unobservant people won't pick up on it, but iykyk.. you can't miss it. I'm more inclined to believe a jilted lover backstory between the two but if they were siblings then they were some _Game of Thrones_ siblings... iykyk
That would mean that Captain Hook is Uma‘s father and Uma and Harry Hook would be siblings even though when you watch descendents you kind of feel like Uma likes Harry but that would be kind of weird if they’re siblings but then again we’ve heard of weird things
What if Ursula used to work for Triton. Maybe she used to make potions/spells and do a performances for the whole place. Just how we see in the beginning of Ariel how the girls were singing in front of everybody. What happens if she had did something to someone very important to Trident. Like his sister.... Forever reason what whatever happened she end up getting banished. But for her she can't get it rid of that feeling like she belong there that she was supposed to be there. And that's why we have Ursula today. Honestly I don't think making them brothers or sisters are lovers is really a good theory. But usually when there's a king ina movie there's like a jester or they right hand man.
Not in this case. They are actually half siblings. Number one only descendants of the original maker of the trident being Poiseden can use it. Number two when the girls were younger they did have a helper but it wasn’t Ursula or Morgana. I forget her name though. I suggest that you watch The Little Mermaid Ariel’s Beginning to see this.
My biggest problem with linking all the Disney stories is geography . The ship, supposedly being that of Elsa's parents, found in the Caribbean? Or found off the coast of Africa (Tarzan). Tarzan is a British Lord.
I agree with the brother and sister thing. I also think that King Triton's father was a Merman but his mother was an octopus or something. That's why both Ursula and Morgana are octopus creatures, maybe. But that's just my theory.
you might get more info if you watched the animated tv series of the film the Little Mermaid. I don't really believe Ursula is Triton's sister outside of the broadway musical. Especially if you count the sequel 'Return to the Sea.'
They aren’t full siblings. They share a father(Poseidon,) which is why the sisters(Ursula and Morgana,) can use the trident, as only bloodline can easily use Poseidons trident; and also why Ursula was gifted the magic shell of Poseidon. The shell and the trident were both real things Poseidon was known to Gift to his son Triton upon his death, but Disney took the liberty to give him a half sister who would be gifted the shell instead. In real myth Triton is fathered by Poseidon and mothered by Amphitrite. Also in real myth the gods were promiscuous so would have had many mistress’s who would have bore them children, so Disney wanted to use that fact and make the sea witch of the original story part of Tritons family tree. So they made Ursula(and then Morgana,) to be the daughter of such an affair. I personally believe Calypso could be their mother but they could be mothered by any random Cecaelia type merfolk.
I can kind of see this. But I don’t see how Captain Hook comes into this. Because in Peter Pan, ALL the mermaids are terrified of Hook. Also, not to mention the fact that Hook was once originally a Lost Boy which explains why he was stuck in Neverland. Because he didn’t have Pan’s permission to leave. I can accept the theory of Ursula and Triton being siblings, seeing as they are both children of Poseidon. But that brings me to my next question: What about Ursula’s sister, Morgana, from The Little Mermaid 2? She’s also an octopus person. If Ursula once was a mermaid, wouldn’t Morgana have been too? And since Morgana was second best and not as good as Ursula (as she states in the movie) why would she have been turned into an octoperson as well? Even though Triton and Ursula are children of Poseidon, I don’t think they have the same mother. Which means that Ursula possibly never was a mermaid.
There is also the fact from Once Upon A Time that Ursula is the daughter of Poseidon...direct relative of King Triton and Ursula and Captain Hook met when she was a human singing at a tavern for travelers
Ursula is actually Trident's sister and it's shown in the original story. As well as the musical, when the eels convince Ariel to go see Ursula, she said "AUNT Ursula?"
In the Broadway version they reuse this plot point, but it just makes her more evil as, depending on the version, she was either a tyrant that Triton deposed because she was terrorizing her half of the ocean, or she was a psychopath who killed her sisters out of jealousy and her father out of resentment and just kind of forgot about Triton until he became an adult and deposed her, again for being a tyrant. Also, she's not purple, she's grey, just like Maleficent is grey, not green, and Hades is grey, not blue. For some reason, Disney likes to up the saturation on grey characters as the years go by.
i always thought ursela had a resemblance to ariel and her sisters governess in Ariels beginnings. would link in ursela and king triton knowing each other and urselas banishment and ursela having a sister in the little mermaid 2, who is refered to as urselas sister. maybe triton banished her and as part of the banishment took the families ties to being a mermaid (their fins) and triton never told his daughters which is why ariel never recognised her. and explains the like of eels
What are you talking about. That doesn’t debunk it. Triton knows Ursula and Morgana so well because they are his half siblings and each of them thinks they deserve the Trident. They think they have something to prove to their parents because Triton was deemed better by their father.
I theorize that (Ursula) is King Triton’s half sister. In addition I theorize that something happened to (Ursula) that is responsible for her deciding to slowly become an evil witch.
How do those theories line up with The Little mermaid 2 you see Ursula's sister is also an octopus looking character and she talks about how Ursula's mother favorite sister
My idea would be that perhaps Ursula was king Tritons mentor for magic control and when she attempted to steal the trident for herself that is when she was banished
To be honest, when Ariel was singing to Eric she looked like “Vanessa” as we know Vanessa is the one and only Ursula which I believe is the sister of triton because Ariel and Ursula look alike to be what might be Ursula’s actual form of Vanessa.
You'll pardon me, but Hook didn't lose his hand in a crocodile attack, Peter Pan cut off his hand and threw it TO a crocodile that happened to be passing by his ship.
The title should be "the ORIGINAL (but cutted) backstory of Ursula." However, this original backstory was decided to be abandoned and scrapped during the later development of the first movie and in the later parts of the Little Mermaid film series Ursula came from another family and had a sister, Morgana. Still, most fans think the TV series and the two movies that followed the first Little Mermaid movie aren’t in the canon and don’t even exist. Instead, most fans think that the broadway musical where Ursula is Triton’s sister is in the canon while Disney says that it’s not. But most fans think that Disney is wrong about this and Ursula's scrapped backstory prove this. But is the fandom right and Disney wrong or Disney right and the fandom wrong?
According to Disney, only the theatrical films are canon. However, since as you said, the plan WAS originally for Ursula to be Triton's sister I can see when fans would give more credibility to the musicals, which adapted the original film with that plot point intact, than the sequel.
How many of you guys have ever read the original story by Hans Christian Andersen the sea witch is not evil and she does warn The Little Mermaid (who is Not named Ariel) several times the price she will have to pay for becoming human and it’s not just her voice. Also she dies at the end and doesn’t marry the Prince.
Well I think Ursula was actually one of the mermaids mother because some of them were just all well probably all of them are besides Ariel cuz they all are desperate to look good and also get a husband to marry so they can be either a royal or either Rich so I'm guessing that all the mermaid sisters besides Ariel are actually Ursula's kids she had with Ariel's dad cuz you can tell they're worried about beauty and finding husband instead of Ariel is more kind and sweet and didn't want a husband she only went true love well didn't want a husband that was rich and take her for advantage
I really like both these theories and they both make a lot of sense on the theory of Ursula being King Triton's sister it makes a lot of sense with that and the whole story that goes along with that but how do you explain Morgana the sea witch who was Ursula's sister in The Little mermaid 2 return to the Sea would Morgana also be King Triton's sister and because of the issues of Ursula and her and Morgana being so close he banned both of them or is it that are slow was a lover before Ariel's mother because King Triton was really really shocked to see Morgana. So that kinda told me that he had known her from a younger age as well because her an Ursula where banished at the same time and the sister rivalry between the two clearly showed and maybe Ursula was their mothers favorite because she got the closest to the prince aka king Triton !! Very cool and valad points I would love to see a movie about Ursula!!!
Disney isn't known for being progressive, so the theory of Ursula loving a mortal woman doesn't seem right imo. I honestly think her "Vanessa" form is her former mermaid form which is a nice little neat package, that Disney could have wrapped up and explained more easily than Ursula being a lesbian.
If you like this video, then you should read Poor Unfortunate Souls, Book # 3 and Never, Never, Book # 9 in the Disney Villains series by Serena Valentino. These books will totally change the way you think about these Disney Villains! 🐙🏴☠🦜📕
@@piikachuette20 I don't know if you like the audiobooks by Serena Valentino, as well. But I wanted to tell you that the audiobook for Cold Hearted (Book # 8 in the Disney Villains, this is about Cinderella's stepmother named Lady Tremaine) will be available on Tuesday, March 1st, 2022. I'll definitely be staying up until 12:00 A.M. to download this! 😁
Since Disney at one point was going to make it so, I like the brother/sister relationship backstory for Triton and Ursula; hope they explore it in the live action movie
The brother/sister theory also could be the reason triton really strongly dislikes humans to such a extreme extent. EDIT: I see you just mentioned this.
I have 2 theories 1.ursulla is based on famous drag queen divine well what if ursula is actually transgender male 2 female and her women form was vannesa but as we know triton is so manipulative he wants to control everything and he is also transphobic meaning anti trans and as punishment for hes brother transition he turn ursula as a half women half octupus it makes sense ursula know lots about transformations she turn a mermaid into human she turn herself into a women named vannesa and that's what banned her from atlantica. My second theorie is that vannesa is actually belle from beauty and the beast hear me out as we know ursula has a crystal ball that allows her to view the human world dispice that facts that she's in the depth of the sea what if ursula was viewing the human world saw belle while belle was reading her book in the little town from a quiet village took belles human form after all vannesa has a uncanney resemblance to belle when vannesa is walking in the beach it gives both major vibes and flash backs to belle walking in the little town the mannerism the hair i mean if i didn't knew any better i would say thats belle and not vannesa
I like this theory! So Ursula would be transitioning without magic in her regular form and the Vanessa transformation is like a cheat for her to become completely feminine with the help of some magic.
I dont think the last 2 were it. Seems very much a stretch. If mermaids were his goal, wouldnt he still be trying to hunt down mermaids in neverland in either revenge or still trying to acheive his original goal? I think they are definitely related. I mean, if you shave off Ursulas body fat on her face, she has a long narrow similar shaped head as Triton. So they are obviously related. Teh likeliness that they share similar facial structure is probably not a coincidence. And they are brother and sister. Literally anything could have caused a riff between them. but I would take the guess to say that they are half siblings. That Triton, because he is a KING, and in royalty, the king can have lovers. And tritons father probably had a lover and had bastard children; Morgana and Ursula. Which would give reason for them trying to take over the thrown if life feels unfair as a bastard. Both morgana AND Ursula can handle the trident which can only be held my someone blood related. So definitely already proof that they are indeed related. But for the fact the morgana and ursula are both octopuses, that whole side of the family probably plotted together to take over the thrown and probably murder triton. Which would be enough reason for triton to really despise Ursula and Morgana. They probably gave them the chance to live(i mean, they did grow up together or maybe there wasnt enough proof to kill them), but he turned them into Octopuses instead and banished them.
@@dancinghulahoop In my world, it DOES happen, even Ursula taking care of everybody in Atlantica. Even Ariel and her sisters to take care of them like a mother in replacement of Queen Athena.
@@lattebones767 That’s such a perfect ending! I always felt really bad for Ursula because she does legitimately help Ariel go to land and meet Eric which never would have happened with Triton’s hatred of humans. But everyone just hates her because she’s an obese masculine witch with a raspy voice. Also she has such terrible luck, she made no mistakes with her plan but still ended up having to yell “ERIC! NOOOO!” while laying on the ground after being beaten up by animals. I would have been much, much happier to see her get a happy ending where she can actually be happy, rather than the one we got.
I think if the brother and sister theory is true it’s more likely that they’re half-siblings. In this case Triton would be the son of his legal wife Amphitrite while Ursula was the daughter of a mistress. Morgana’s existence seems to argue that the octopus half is hereditary rather than the result of a curse. In this case Ursula was raised in the palace with her half-brother until he took the throne. At this point it’s possible their relationship was always bad, with Ursula and Morgana being the equivalent of Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters and constantly trying to undermine Triton. Or it might have soured as a result of Triton getting the throne Ursula wanted. Alternatively since Ursula was modeled after a famous drag queen it’s possible she was Triton’s brother and tried to steal a beautiful woman’s form by luring a woman from the surface to steal her looks. However in the middle of this Triton caught her and disrupted the ritual. Ursula gained a female form, but not the beautiful one she craved, and Triton banished her.
Yes. 100% yes. Love this theory

I like the brother and sister theory more because It would more sense and It would explain how Ursula can use the Trident so well.

Ursula has a sister tho kinda ruins the theory
@@girlgaming7346 it’s not a theory it’s a book published by Disney
So is Ursula’s sister not canon or?
But the thing is we already know how his wife died. She was run over by a ship. We see this in the Little Mermaid 3: Ariel’s Beginning

I heard Vanessa may have been how Ursula originally looked when she lived in the palace as a mermaid
@@michaelkeele8077 Actually, no. Ariel's Grandfather may be the god Poseidon, but her mother is not the goddess Athena, she just shares the name.

@@camel6848 but has a face like Ariel. And of course her voice is too because she stole Ariel's voice.
Honestly, as much as I know people are gonna hate me for it, Ursula wasn't entirely in the wrong.
1) she was running a business
2) when talking with Ariel, she honestly was pretty transparent about her business and terms (which she KNOWS is shady, and yet still was clear and lied not at all).
They really need to make a movie about Ursula immediately like I seen in the teaser and I like the Triton and Ursula brother and sister theory better
For the upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid, set to come out next year, they do have plans to show Ursula’s backstory AND how she and King Triton are brother and sister.
I really hope they add sings to it as well
Ursula is the king’s half sister.
I always assumed that Ursula was king triton sister and I stand by the sister theory more than anything
Really
Man! You should give that theory to the author Serena Valentino. She might put it in her next Disney Villains book series. 🤯
And well alladdins brother is mozerath from the series
Except Disney has established that Ursula has a "crazy sister" and when does Ursula ever say that she used to be a beautiful Merperson?
I was thinking the same thing she already has a sister. She was always an octopus
Even in Daddy's Little Angel (a song from one if the Broadway versions where they reintroduced that plot point) it says that even as a little girl she was "ugly as a slug"
I asked the same thing. I don't remember Ursula expressing that she used to be a Mermaid. The video is still fun though.
@@CallMeGameGirlThat is correct. They are step siblings. They have the same father but Triton had a different mother than his two sisters.
I thought they only said she was a fortune teller at the palace?
2:34 “Meaning that if she was respected in one way or another, this was before she turned into a morbidly obese sea witch.”
Dang, poor Ursula!
What if the Mermaids from Peter Pan was actually decendents of Ariel's sisters? or they might be cousins of sorts.
I like that idea
The red head is Ariel’s grandmother
You're theories are very good. I don't think Ursula and Triton aren't siblings because Ursula is an octopin and Triton's a merman. I think Ursula is no doubt jealous of Triton's throne, of course when she lived in Triton's kingdom. Triton welcomed Ursula to his kingdom and years after she wanted the job as ruler of the sea or be queen at Triton's side. But Triton refused, forcing Ursula to just steal his throne and Triton spotted her true intentions and he banished her.
Ursula wasn’t always a octopus. She said she used to b a merperson

The original version of fathoms below deleted song made by Disney tells of Ursula as Tritons sister and that story. There is also a song from the musical called "I want the good times back" which explains alot as well. (The material would have to be pre approved by Disney as okay content. There was an entire discussion on it prior to starting ANYTHING with the entire cast and all crew. Members.) But yeah both songs can be found on RUclips 🥰 check them out if you get the chance.
What if, while training to become a better witch, she made a mistake and cursed herself?
Maybe Ursula was the first born and lost the crown to her brother, Tritan
Actually in the Broadway musical of the little mermaid. Trtin and ursula wee siblings. Ursula was the one ugly child amongst 8 mermaids sisters(including Morgana) and was neglected by poseidon(her and triton dad). But one day her father gave her the magic shell which gave her powers so she used that to kill the rest of her sisters so she could Rule. But then triton was born and she tried to kill him too but failed. Then she was banished. That's the Broadway version though.
Here is Morgana too. And there is also a series of books connecting the Disney villains and one of them is focused on Ursula.
Which series?
I'm down with them being siblings and all but that begs a question, what about Ursula's so called sister in the second movie?
Both Triton and the sisters(Ursula and Morgana,) share a father, but have different mothers. Tritons mother would have been the Ocean Goddess Amphitrite, while the sisters would have been mothered by some random cecaelia or the sea nymph Calypso; most likely through an affair.
Sequels and series are not canon to the original films.

They used make live action movie Ursula, just like story Curella and the others.
I remember that book it was a long time ago since I read it once. But I do remember Ursula was in love with Triton, according to her side.
“Obese seawitch” 😭😂
Perfect description of how she ends up... those fantastical feasts and Triton’s curse really did that to her!
but you forget the fact Ursula has her half sister in the little mermaid 2 which shows how she was always an octopus creature. this also show that she is the half sister of triton
0:39 everyone who watched Encanto: you mean that musty crusty Abuela oh you mean Ursula
Honestly, I wished they made Ursula’s stand alone film and made King Triton as the villain of the story, not a little mermaid reboot.
Gives a whole extra level to Triton’s line “fish eaters hook”
In the Descendants films/books, Ursula's daughter and Hook's son are really close...
you might get more info if you watched the animated tv series of the film the Little Mermaid. I don't really believe Ursula is Triton's sister outside of the broadway musical. Especially if you count the sequel 'Return to the Sea.'
My other theory is that Ursula was Tritons advisor.
@@craigharvey-gurr337 that's what I always thought
@@craigharvey-gurr337 now that one I believe.
@@michaelkeele8077 Now that makes more sense too.
They don’t have the same mother. They’re half siblings.
There is also the fact from Once Upon A Time that Ursula is the daughter of Poseidon...direct relative of King Triton and Ursula and Captain Hook met when she was a human singing at a tavern for travelers
I really want to see a movie about the Evil Queen
They aren’t grey. Hades fire is shown blue and Ursula purple, at no point is it gray.
i always thought ursela had a resemblance to ariel and her sisters governess in Ariels beginnings.
would link in ursela and king triton knowing each other and urselas banishment and ursela having a sister in the little mermaid 2, who is refered to as urselas sister. maybe triton banished her and as part of the banishment took the families ties to being a mermaid (their fins) and triton never told his daughters which is why ariel never recognised her. and explains the like of eels
What debunks the sibling theory is from the second little mermaid movie with her sister's reasoning for wanting the Trident also.
What are you talking about. That doesn’t debunk it. Triton knows Ursula and Morgana so well because they are his half siblings and each of them thinks they deserve the Trident. They think they have something to prove to their parents because Triton was deemed better by their father.
Ursula and Captain Hook falling in love...
*B R U H, just think about how weird and uncomfortable that would be for Uma and Harry in descendants -*
Tbh I think that the sibling theory would make more sense then the lover theory *in my opinion*
My idea would be that perhaps Ursula was king Tritons mentor for magic control and when she attempted to steal the trident for herself that is when she was banished
This theory is too good I wish they would make an avengers long saga of movies but in this universe
To be honest, when Ariel was singing to Eric she looked like “Vanessa” as we know Vanessa is the one and only Ursula which I believe is the sister of triton because Ariel and Ursula look alike to be what might be Ursula’s actual form of Vanessa.
The origins of Ursula … 💜 Disney movie
😱OMG! This Is AWESOME! And The Tea ☕️….. it’s JUICY! Lol😂
Just watched the live action ursula actually once called triton “big brother” amd called herself “auntie ursula” to ariel
Good Job😁😁
So… where does Morgana fit in all of this? After all she’s Ursula’s crazy sister
I don't think they're siblings because of what Morgana said in the second the little mermaid movie
She said their mom would always be praising Ursula
Relatives between brother and sister makes total sense because the thrown only meant for mermen's to rule the sea as a King not Queen
Has no one ever noticed that where Ariel’s mum dies looked like the spot where the mermaids were introduced in Peter Pan….
Read the book Poor Unfortunate Souls. It goes into and explains Ursula’s past and heritage.
Of the first 3 that i have of the collection, Ursulas story was my fav, i cant wait to order the rest of the books!
I did notice in Peter Pan the crew member who showed off his tattoos had mermaids in them idk how many but there were more than one
@@dancinghulahoop what am not following
Ursula and Captain Hook make sense, cause in descendants Uma dresses like a pirate and hangs out with Harry Hook!
Well the brother and sister theory is actually pretty close. But my guess is that Ursula was the power hungry sibling like in the Broadway version.
First of all being obese doesn’t mean you can’t be beautiful
100%! Personally I’ve always found Ursula more attractive than Ariel. And I do mean in her obese octopus form. She’s just more of my type.
I could see the sibling theory.
If Triton died, would Ursula's octopus form fully go away for good, and turn back into her younger mermaid self?
If this is true and her weight is attached to his curse too, then killing Triton would be the most effective diet in history!
@@dancinghulahoop Thank you! ^ ^ The theory came to my head, and I prefer (Mr. Temperhead) King Triton dead for good. XD
@@lattebones767 Same here! If they actually gave Ursula a chance to rule I think she would have done a better job than him.
Good theory , but in the second movie she has a sister that is also an octopus, so was she cursed to from Triton?
She literally says your dear auntie Ursula when spying on Ariel in the movie
She was his sister get Ursula had a baby sister that was an Little Mermaid II
Ursula already has a sister morgana who has tentacles like her so the sibling theory doesnt hold up
Agreed
