Does the book ever cover her having a daughter? or does it ignore that? Because I feel like a crucial component of Mother Gothel's backstory after Tangle: The Series is her having a daughter named Cassandra who she ends up abandoning after Rapunzel is born, because of the flower's powers. If this is indeed a canon backstory, at least we know the identity of Cassandra's father, because it sounds like the only close contact she had with a male was Jacob, her mother's loyal subject.

Narcissism and narcissistic traits are typically the result of the environment you were raised in. That or a person's genetics. That's just how narcissism scientifically works when you actually look into it.
I agree not all fictional villains need to be written realistically and some should be able to villainous just to be villainous because they want to but, for some people it's not something they enjoy. Therefore they'll look for stories with villains that are realistic. Nothing wrong a villain whose a villain just because but, there's also nothing wrong with a villain with trauma.

    Rating: 0/10
I cannot recommend this book for one simple reason: it completely fails to honor the historical context of Tangled by forcing modern relationship mindsets onto a story set in the 1700s. In a time when early marriage was a social necessity, and the only way for a couple to truly be together, the author insists on this bizarre and out-of-place notion that Rapunzel and Flynn should “wait years” to get married. This is not only wildly inaccurate for the time period but also undermines the strength of Rapunzel and Flynn’s love. Historically, couples who were as devoted to each other as these two, and who were willing to sacrifice their lives for one another, would marry quickly to affirm their commitment.
Even worse, the author Serena Valentino shows a clear double standard across her Disney novels: in all her other Villains books, she respects the historical context and allows couples to marry as was the norm. But for some reason, Tangled is the exception, with Valentino shoehorning in a modern notion of delayed marriage that is completely wrong for Rapunzel and Flynn’s era and for their personalities. This storyline is frustratingly out of character and goes against the themes of true love and devotion seen in the Brothers Grimm's Rapunzel and Basile’s Petrosinella. Marriage was a central part of these original stories-an important, symbolic union that Valentino disregards without thought.
For a couple as inspiring and deeply connected as Rapunzel and Flynn, whose love was proven through their willingness to sacrifice themselves, early marriage would have been natural, even beautiful. Instead, Valentino's choice feels like a misguided attempt at modernizing the story, and it only serves to make this book disappointing. Mother Knows Best completely disregards Tangled’s spirit and the historical roots of its story, and for that, I give it a 0/10
