So I try to answer today, what is the point of the MAWL C1+ if its performance is matched by units 1/3rd the price?

Performance and usability make it the best in my opinion. Once you learn to hate the torture devices that are standard layout devices, you will greatly appreciate the MAWL layout. Too bad other brands can’t seem to innovate on controls.

It feels like there are different boundaries for preparedness. Red dots on pistols used to be for competition shooters, but are becoming ever more present. Next step is getting suppressors and integrating those. Night vision is a huge price boundary for most folks, but as with the boundaries before it, gives you a lot better capabilities when employed
Night vision don't get to that level boundary of preparedness I think.
For 1 it's too expensive, and two the time to utilize it compared to a handgun or optic on a rifle is laughable. You gotta get nods on, and you gun up and be ready for when they attacker bust in your door.
Unless you're doing community watch there's little to no value to the civilian market. That's not to say people should not get it. There are much better things to get them nods at that price point anyway, like a down payment on a home, supplies, training, investments etc.

I went with the MAWL as well. Got mine just before the price hike. So it was like $2800 if I remember correctly. I also 100% agree with the two button combo that the MAWL has going for it. People really don't understand how nice that feature is, until you let them do it, and then take it away from them and give them back a system that doesn't have that option.
I also got in at that price. With inflation not sure if we saved anything though.
Holding out for the Z-Bolt "MAWL at home". Very impressed with their IR head. Selling for $1500. Also a vcsel with similar ergonomics.

It will be interesting to see what happens to these prices when the Iris releases at $800 ish.

I have a MAWL and a Wilcox XC. Both are incredible. I like the button layout and quick adjustments the MAWL affords. It is really expensive but I got mine before they crested 3k+. And I’m also a physician with no other expensive hobbies so there’s that. Would I get multiple for other platforms, no, that’s why the LS321G exists

@@davidb9323 the MAWL is VCSEL(sp?) tech so it puts out a ton more IR illumination, but for a cheap laser the Holosun is great. I currently have one on a B&T APC9, which no one would shoot past 100 at night anyway. Can’t wait to see how the new holosun units that were released at Shot Show do. They are VCSEL

I'm probably on the same page as you, the MAWL may be the best LAM on the market but it's not enough of a step up to justify the price tag unless money is no object. I'm trying out the somogear NGAL, so far I'm pretty impressed, it seems to solve many of the issues their PEQ had and at the price tag you can buy 9 of them for the price of one MAWL

I remember talking to a guy at a LGS who was buying night vision in 2020, to just buy the mawl, as the shop was offering a package deal for a +$1800, I said "just do it" it's absolutely bonkers that these things are going for nearly $4k. I recently came into possession of a few different laser aiming modules for test, I didn't have a ton of experience with them prior to this acquisition, I really had no idea how bonkers MIL/LE strength lasers were compared to their civilian counterparts.
I’m a dir-v guy, still not cheap by any means. The form factor is amazing and the performance is addicting.

@@Ivan_I99999 so I have the dir -v and the dir and it seems that the dir-v is brighter than the dir but have no real way of testing other than it is bright as shit at night and daytime compared to the regular dual beam

@@dillonmills333 Haven’t had to yet, no problem holding zero and my lasers are coailligned. USNV also has great customer service so if I do need to send it back it shouldn’t be a problem. Can’t say the same for steiner.

When I had a floofy Husky, I would use an excited baby voice asking if my baby wanted "Skritchies", id give him skritchies with my hands while getting 1 swipe of the brush in with it. Then next time he did a figure 8 around me, hed get 2 brushies, etc. once i got a few rounds in, id be able to brush going up the back of the leg, and it would grab so many TUFTSSSSSS ❤ 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
I think the MAWL is obviously the best by a longshot. Similar to dual tube NODs, the price makes it difficult to have backups. I'm fine with Steiners on a few weapon systems.

I'm glad that I bought both of my MAWL-C1s before the price increase, they originally were selling them for $2.7k and that was considered "outrageously overpriced" at that time too and now at $3.5-3.7k I can't honestly say it is worth it when that is getting into the price range of FP MAWL-DA, Raid-Xe and NGAL when you can find it being sold in the private/gray/black market.
Overall I like my MAWLs, but I do lament the weight of the unit though but the trade-offs of the ergo is fine with me.
Where would one theoretically be able to find a FP MAWL for sale?

I got to the chance to run one of these on deployment in 2019. I loved it, it really is a huge upgrade over something like a PEQ-15. Now, I'm not throwing any hate at the PEQ-15 (fantastic unit), this is just better in ever way. And yeah, if money wasn't an object I would definitely run this. But since money is a concern, I'm running a DBAL. It does the job just fine minus that battery drain even when the unit is off and the fact that it looks like a microwave on the front of my pew pew. Run what you can afford guys, don't be maxing credit cards so you can flex on insta. And I promise, you won't die because you aren't running gucci stuff that is the cost of a used car.
You ran civilian-grade stuff on deployment? Huh? I am no NV and laser expert but that sounds sus.
I'm happy with my Perst 4. Linked it to a Z-Bolt IR torch.

I greatly appreciate all the info on LAM’s. I’m hoping the new Holosun IRIS is decent! Been debating what LAM to get first for years. I just got a PVS-14! I’m thinking LS321 to start with.

Would you rather have a linear slider or rotary selection for the laser power? Or, maybe a 3 or 4 position linear selector instead of just Hi/Lo? I'm trying to decide on a design to make.

One thing that I learnt from a 24th STS guy is if imma use a LPVO or elcan to just mount the lazer on the right rail
I got mine brand new when Ariska ran the deal before 2023 price hike. With the light package subtracted the MAWL c1+ brand new was 2820. I think BE meyers backing the units, American made, and its not a steiner + ergo and simplicity won me over. Its just simple, clean, and is awesome. But yeah paying 3600 would be insane
I knocked out the pin that holds the power level safety lock out in place and threw some gorilla tape over the LEDs. Those were my only two gripes with it. Most ergonomic and clearest laser I’ve used. I think it’s worth the weight penalty.
I have been looking at the MAWL for a build I am planning for sometime this year for every single positive reason given in this video. With that said, I was planning on this unit with the begrudging sense it would cost literally more than the rest of the rifle with optics, light, and can. I am eagerly awaiting the release of Holosun's IRIS and Z-bolt's LAM because they use similar tech to the MAWL. I really want to know how those new LAMs perform before dropping that $3700.
You discussion about locating or relocating targets at night got me thinking. Have you ever tried acquiring targets at night that have been "dressed" in camo? I wonder how much difference it would make under changing light and or equipment?
it makes a big difference, hilarious; the steel targets are one of the most effective camos because it looks identical to a rocky backdrop, vs most camos being human shaped.

Here's a topic unrelated to this video. Venture surplus sells a chest rig with molle webbing and 6 mag pouches plus a radio pouch on either side. If you want a good chest rig that can also buckle to the front of a plate carrier with the included accessories then check it out. Also, strap some extra mag pouches to the front for extra payload

I need to know as well after owning one. Zeroing was a pain and the directions were cknfising as it doesnt work the same as the peq on zero
I just hope the options are a little better when i finally drop money on a LAM. Maybe i wont mind spending MAWL money, but ill certainly only buy one and swap it between uppers. Tandem red laser for the win.

Quick question: About how many rounds do you go through in an average training session? I’m new to all this. I want to shoot enough to get good but not break the bank. Seems like there would be a point of diminishing returns. Like you can only improve a certain amount on average each training session.
Buddy, guntubers have companies sponsoring their ammo. You can't duplicate their firing schedule. Unless you have FU money to burn. Also, the point of diminishing returns is right in the sense that if you don't have an area to do a variety of different types of drills, simply blasting rounds at 25 meters and working on your splits isn't well-rounded training.

My fp unit lives in the "useless" mode until I need more. I used it in a competition once, all the holosun users were pissed when my laser completely washed out theirs
It was $2500 awhile ago, and I thought that was outrageous. Guess I got a “deal”.
I asked a guy in the industry and he told me that the laser diode alone went up $600 during covid. The price hasn't come down though so it most likely won't.

I refuse to pay the extortion level pricing of a MAWL. But the Holosun IRIS or Z-Bolt ACAL look far more appealing and financially do-able.

Im kinda a newb too the gun scene. These devices are used for targeting at night with night vision. So what if the enemy has night vision as well..won't you stand out like a sore thumb if it is used?
NV is still out of my price range. So, here is my comment for the algorithm.
Same boat. Commenting to further boost the algo. It hurts. By the time I'm able to afford basic bitch NV equipment, I'll be too geriatric to use my rifle effectively. Punching air. Fighting demons. Screaming, crying, pissing, shitting, etc.
I really just want a durable LAM with an adjustable illuminator, decent power laser that's usable at 300 yards max, and comes in at the price of a PSA complete rifle lol. I'm pretty sure my Jakl did something to my Somogear, because the vis and IR lasers are now waaaay more than 12 inches off.

Do a few all night intense exercises with a bunch of guys with a big variety of lasers. If you have the MAWL you will be pleased. It right up there with some of the gov issued lasers.

I've been curious to try an Ali-Ex version of one to see if it's any good... they sell for around $140, so even if they have a tenth the capability, they're less than tenth the cost.

I have one, its almost a 1-1 replica but I don't own any night vision yet to evaluate the performance. It does have a working illuminator and designator although the controls are not at all good, not like the real MAWL controls. I had to pop it open to rewire some of the leads in order to get momentary vis only. I don't expect it to be reliable/hold zero but I also want a .22 conversion kit, so its gonna find a home pretty soon. One day I'll come back and lyk what's up with it once I see it through my first tubes if you don't beat me to it.

I already have a couple Streamlights that are Red/Blue/White/IR LEDs and that's great for admin stuff, but not for a weapon light.
Best part of the mawl is it has an AA battery adapter.
I called Nightline, tempted by that discounted elbit price, and got told no we don't have any of those, Elbit got mad that L3 filmless commands such a premium and jacked the price up. Seems like a bait and switch in retrospect.

As someone who has never had vision at night, that slice through the tube at 3:05 made me wince. Is something like that permanent? I know you're not supposed to point NVGs at bright things, but I was expecting them to be more resilient than that...
nah, it just happens when the tube is at very high gain, and then looks at something bright, but not bright enough to trigger the auto gain/gate.
It goes away in 5min.

Back when the MAWL was like.. $2700-2800 I think it made slightly more sense, but at the price of a decent new PVS-14 its just not really worth it anymore unless money is no object.

I’ve owned both the mawl-x1 and raid-xe, ended up selling the mawl because even tho the great controls the weight and how it tilt the gun to the right.
And honestly if the holosun vcsel laser is as good as I’m hoping it’ll make the mawl and raid xe extremely overpriced which I’m all for

What happens if you use 100 percent of your laser’s power but are indoors? Is there a problem with the laser being this bright, or are you worried about battery drain?
Too bright. The laser just looks like a big blooming circle. A fp illuminator could damage your tubes if it’s reflecting off surfaces. I even use my class 1 lasers on low inside my house messing around.
Gotcha. When you wear night vision goggles do you have any issues such as being motion sick or how one feels when they wear VR goggles for too long? @@miasanmia2519

MAWL is better from a ergos standpoint. photonic barriers are the same, it's the same output
