On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

@@Meyer-gp7nqwell it depends. There's varying degrees of how expendable certain ordance is and it's really up to the airbase's armorers and logistics guys. That 2000 lbs JDAM on a portapotty would definitely have gotten him a strict reprimand if this were real life.

A-10 with a couple HARMS on the belly going in for troop support makes sense. Like you mentioned “a pop-up” anti air unit, now the hog has the ability to kill it quickly and return to mission.
Yeah, but it still doesn't have the speed and avionic chops for SEAD like the Viper and the Panther do.
The HARMS may've helped the A-10 against these punny SAM systems but they would be useless against the upper-tier SAMs like the Russian S-400 and the Chinese HQ-9.
@@Stinger522 Which is why you'd send out F-35's first with it's advanced missiles can't shoot anything down if your radar can't figure out which targets are real and which aren't. A-10 isn't meant to deal with anti-air it's ground support you know armored vehicles, people on foot, an occasional helicopter.

@@Spydr6684 Oh yeah absolutely I completely agree it would help deal with any pop up threats. Our military have been giving everything self-defense missiles including our bombers so it makes sense.

You mention doing SEAD detracts from the main purpose of the A10 but I have a solution to that. Bring a second A10. Hell, bring a third and there won't even be anything left for the ground troops to fight :D

You said that S.E.A.D. is a distraction for the A-10; but a dedicated S.E.A.D. aircraft might not be nearby, or even in theater. It's better to have a capability and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

18:50 intel indicates that Commander Baddy McDaddy regularly drops 2 pounders there with a chemical and biological element.
It was a few days ago that I found out some people don't know that the a-10 can't use HARMs.
Because there was a poll about which aircraft you would like to do CAS if you are in trouble.
The options were the A-10, the F-16 and the F-15E.
I said it's down to circumstances, if there are SAMs I would want f-15E because it can carry a huge payload and use glidebombs on the SAM sites. The F-16 would be great with its HARMs as well but it can't carry that many bombs.
And then there were people arguing that the A-10 can take out SAMs with HARMs.
But the guy also didn't know about short rang IR missiles, I don't think he knew what a MANPAD even was lol.
And he thought the chaff would protect the A-10 well enough to use mavericks on the SAMs
To be honest, I am not that learned on such things (I am still learning much of the terminology) so I would probably say something similar if i was the one writing such comments on such a poll.
There were some enemy tanker truck drivers 💩 their pants when those SA-6’s got smoked! 😂

Can you do TWO A-10's running SEAD? Just want to see what a menace they would be if they could coordinate. 1 gets locked the other fires at the SAM and vice versa.

I have a nice setup "ready to go" once I actually get around to setting it up but I have to say, gone are my pubescent days of being overly excited and wanting to just start running and gunning. I watch your vid and want to learn how to use the RWR and all of the instrumentation. Even just being able to work out who's coming in, who's fired missiles, etc., ...

I bet you could mount the HTS where the PAVE PENNY used to go and use the LAU-88(?) launch rail adapter on at least eight of the A-10s stations and *STILL* have room for the TGP...probably couldn't get the same range from the HARMs as you could from a Viper due to the low initial launch speed but the idea of a Hog slingin' eight HARMs just makes me giggle maniacally....

That is interesting and a good example of the limitations of what knowledge is publicly available. The A-10 has used the AGM-88 HARM a lot over the past. I assume it is only in recent times that the USAF has changed it's policies/procedures on the A-10 using it or not.
What are you talking about ? A-10 never used AGM-88. You wont even find pictures caring it.
So in reality the A-10 could have maybe carried Sidearms, but there were so few of those around I'm not sure it ever crossed anyones mind.

it wont get the range when dropped from a faster aircraft, but should still give it a better engagement range than with the Mavericks
