    Great video!
    Small tips for flying the MiG, I notice that you leave the undercarriage lever at 'up' position throughout the third sortie. As the undercarriage, brakes and flaps onboard the MiG-21 use pneumatic (compressed air) as power, leaving the undercarriage lever at 'up' position for a prolonged period will risk draining the pneumatic air pressure, which will eventually lead to failure of undercarriage, flaps and brakes. Same will happen if you use brakes too frequently on the ground. I would suggest to form a good habit of returning the lever to neutral after the undercarriage is up.
    Also the MiG likes a shallow glide slope landing instead of a steep one, so you may want to try next time landing with only half of the length of the runway in sight with a lower approach attitude. This will make your life in landing easier! Hope you enjoy flying the Fishbed, it's a lovely aircraft! 😉

    • @OfficialUSKRprogram
      @OfficialUSKRprogram 2 года назад +71

      The Mig-21 is one of those aircraft that doesn't hold your hand. My tips are to never land above 1,000 liter of fuel, and never exceed 10 degrees AOA when landing.
      Also, if you load with 2 (or 3) fuel tanks, and climb above 10,000 meters, drop the tanks then reach for mach 1.6, the aircraft will turn into a rocket and it'll dash to mach 2.2 in a climb, and reach all the way to 20,000 meters.. I think this is realistic because former F-102 and F-104 pilots said they would dash at incredible speeds and altitudes, mach 2 at 80,000ft, and they would attack from above at these incredible speeds, and dash away.
      In DCS with the Mig-21 you can only do one dash before you're out of fuel, but it's still good fun, it's not often you get to see the sky turn black in broad daylight :D

    • @rossmum
      @rossmum 2 года назад +24

      The gear and flaps are hydraulic, they'll be fine. What will actually fail is the main pneumatic circuit: the main wheel brakes (emergency ones have about half the braking force), brake chute deployment, and technically I think the radar coolant system is supposed to but I don't remember if it actually does.

    Don't be shy with the burner, you need it during most turns just to balance out the induced drag off the delta. The faster you are, the lower your AoA, the less of an airbrake your wing is: you can rip around at 1100km/h IAS and if anyone threatens you, just slam the throttle all the way forwards and start snaking and rolling to bleed out their missiles. The 21bis has a special afterburner mode which turns it from an already fast plane to an absolute bottle rocket at any altitude below 4000m barometric, if you use it during level flight you'll rapidly overspeed and kill the engine, but it's an absolute godsend in combat. In turns it gives you a noticeable boost and brings your sustained turn performance up almost to parity with the F-5 at sea level. It chews through fuel faster, but with a little practice you can get decent overall fuel economy out of the jet - it sips up at high altitude and you want to be as light as possible in a fight anyway.
    Those cinematic shots were to die for, awesome video.

    You have to be wary of when you jump into this server. Last time I was on it was just over loaded. The lag was so bad that when I raised my gear it was almost a minute before the server got around to showing them up on the screen. Shoot a missile and go and have a coffee while you wait for it to leave the rail. Almost unplayable. Hop in on non peak hours and you can have a really good time. Occasionally you find the trolls who will shoot you down even when your the same coalition. Just to be asshats. But other than that, you can do something as simple as an airbase strike by yourself to a massive Alpha Strike against a carrier group with 30 others.

      There was a good server for Arma II where the human players were Russian tech, and the opponent was AI using US tech.
      The AI was rather difficult.
      It would revolve around having to capture a village they were holding, defeat them, and move onto the next village.
      The whole series of villages could take hours or a couple days to complete.

      @@blackhawkuh-6026 If any of them know helo pilots, I would ask them about it. Having as many connections as possible is one of the best things you can do it seems. I kinda got lucky because my instructor is a family friend and we managed to arrange lessons after he took me on a flight. You also need to be prepared to spend quite a bit, especially with prices for everything rising right now. Get medical stuff out of the way fairly early, if you're young (Under 40), physicals will last for about 5 years. Any DUI or problems that you may have related to substances will make getting a license near impossible, so make sure you have a clean record and keep it clean. I don't have too many hours right now so I don't necessarily have any info that may really help but I would also recommend trying to fly multiple aircraft if at all possible, it's good to build up hours on not only helicopter but fixed wing too. I fly the R22 and R44 along with a pa28 and just allows for more training overall since you may not fly the same aircraft all the time, just depends on what your job you get. You'd definitely get more help from someone who is an instructor, or at least someone with a lot of flight hours since most get their CFI early on (I figure around 200 hours+) and start their career as instructors. You could also look into a school like UVU, I was told that it's one of the best flight schools in America and have thought about going after getting my PPL.

    Secondary reheat and takeoff flaps are a must for low altitude fighting with the Migger. Flaps will also "automatically" (In the most liberal sense of the word, they are spring loaded.) retract inboard over a certain speed, so it doesn't require constant management. Looked like R-13 under your wings, probably because of road base spawn, but those are trash. Also, R-3R's are criminally under rated and offer you some option for head on engagements, where you always have the range advantage to shoot first.
