The thumbnail led me to believe that you were crowning yourself as the lesbian queen of England and honestly I'd be so supportive of that
Right??? Long live the Queen 😍
Hayley Kiyoko is Lesbian Jesus so why not? ;)
That'd cause much soul searching for this staunch anti-monarchist.
Lmao YASS
Same here girl
I thought I'd fallen on hard times but at least my father didn't lose me in a bet when I was 15 and then burned down the house with the rest of my family in it. Thanks, Dad!
Emerson Jakes - I was four. When your life is shitter than the historically shit life of a person alive in the beheading days. 👨🏻💻😞
This is told from Abigail's point of view and we know she has a sadistic streak. My headcanon is that it was her who burned the house, knowingly with her father inside
“I am a bit of a history buff, and also SUPER GAY” huge mood
Me in a nutshell 😂😂😂
I’m going to need a gif of you pointing at the screen and saying “seems pretty gay to me”
Someone help
Judith Bell THANK YOU! ♥️
@@judithbell6937 LOVE IT!
found this comment as she said “seems pretty gay to me” and somehow that means everything
You NEED to talk about ANNE LISTER: super gay Yorkshire woman in the early 19th century, who was a land owner and didn't care what people thought of her, so much so that she wore men's clothes and was known as 'Gentleman Jack' and as 'Fred' to her lover. She wrote a load of coded diaries which have been a great source of knowledge into women's lives of the time, not to mention the talks of lesbian stuff too. There was a BBC film in 2010 titled 'The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister' and there will be another BBC production coming in 2019 called 'Gentleman Jack' ...super worth reading into and watching for anyone interested in such detailed writings on history and society from a woman's point of view!
2019-01-22 🏳️🌈In 1804 her first love at 13 years of age was Eliza Raine from India I also think of the same age as Anne
I NEED THE HISTORICAL GAYS!!!!
Lesbian or trans man?
She has now
@@Valdagast don't matter.
I love how you talk about history as if you had actually lived through all the monarchs' reigns.
I think that adds so much charm to this series. As if Jessica has known all these famous historical figures over the past centuries
😂 it’s weird seeing her with a cell phone because I keep forgetting that she isn’t from the 50’s
I loved The Favourite! My mom (who is a sassy lesbian herself!) and I decided to go a couple of days before Christmas. I'm not usually able to go to regular movie theaters because of how much pain the seating gives me, and I don't like to sit four feet from the screen in my wheelchair, but for this movie we decided it would be worth it. It was fun to see her so delighted at all of the one-liners. We had a great time, I'm sending her this video asap because I know she'll be interested in the real history behind the movie.
Mary Queen of Scots review and history talk please~!
yes...but if you need one now, frock flicks does amazing podcasts and blogs about historical dramas too (bit one can never have enough) with lots of snark
sparx fli I saw enough in the trailer to decide I never want to see this film. It looked like it was as accurate as The Imitation Game. This is the sh*t they pull when they want funding.
She already did.
Lindsay Holiday did a review of her :)
I need a gif of Jessica saying "seems pretty gay to me" with that plotting look.
If I knew how, I'd do it. I want it downloaded on my phone to send as a text message

@@judithbell6937 YOU ARE AN ICON THANK YOU
@@judithbell6937 You are amazing!
There’s something quite unique about your channel that I just adore. I don’t have any disabilities but enjoy learning historical tidbits and the origin of the topics you introduce; along with the queerness! :)
Oddly enough, I love the closed caption concept and this could be because I enjoy reading and listening to what I’m digesting. I think it has a great deal with desiring to really comprehend and recall the information taken in but it is a very lovely touch, I often notice myself seeking that option in more videos across the platform.
Jamie was also REALLY REALLY gay. He had the wife and kids for duty to his country but he had a long line of Male lovers
+
There isn't unambiguous evidence that James fucked his male favourites, although his preference for male companions was noted by contempries.
@@MadameCorgi you don't think that the letters between James and Buckingham constitute some sort of proof though? They had adjoining bedrooms at some of the palaces, and then there is the letter that says something like there was no room between Buckingham (referred to as his dog) and the King's headboard or whatever, LOL, and then again he also referred to Buckingham as his "wife."
@@MadameCorgi There has never been "unambiguous" evidence ever of any monarch being gay. For obvious reasons....even nowadays gay lovers are perceived as "friends" for various reasons
He also started “witch” hysteria and fucked with bible. Meh.
The audio is a little off but I’ll expect it for the gay
It might be the mic. I feel like the sound on some of the christmas videos had the same kind of slightly muffled sound, when she's talking straight to the camera. The rest of the sound, (like the sound effects) all sound clearer.
shes making it sound vintage because its her style i think
@@cb-bv2ub Nah, she said on a recent video that they checked the mic and it was cracked. They got a new mic for the latest video, and the sound is back to the old standard.
Sounds vintage and I love it
I loved this! They never hired you on horrible histories???! They missed a trick.. :p
Jessica, I should ask you from my teenage daughter if you could do more history videos. We enjoyed your travel through British history really, really a lot!!! You are so passionate and knowledgeable and adorable...makes boring history (says again the teenager sitting next to me) a lot of fun. ❤
The director used the 🐟eye lens on purpose to mimic some Dutch painting style.☺
If you’re looking for more historical lesbians, may I suggest Colette? Not as entertaining as The Favourite, but still good and very queer! Also looking forward to your review of Mary Queen of Scots :) I’m half-Scottish, and just the accents in the trailer make me cry as they’re so bad!
I now have the Horrible Histories Charles II song stuck in my head just at the mention of the name
I loved the people and the people loved me, so much that they restored the English monarchy!
I’m part Scottish, French, Italian, a little bit Dane. But 100% party animal. Champagne?
Spaniels I adored, named after me too; like me they were fun, with a natty hairdo!

The sass makes me cheer! The uplifting content of your videos makes me cheerful!
These videos with mini history lessons are my new favourite thing! 💕
My God. I love your hair and your voice
You are good at explaining history in a clear and concise way. Could you consider doing more if these? I quite enjoy them - actually a lot!
I'm enjoying all of your history profiles, including this one! You make them so much fun. ❤
Begin a history buff myself this was so interesting. You remind me of my favorite teacher she was incredible. She brought every subject to life that a gift! You have that same talent! Could you do Queen Christina next? I saw the movie with Garbo and recently the newer version. Thank you.🇱🇷💋
Well done I thoroughly enjoyed this!!
THIS IS MY FAVORITE HISTORY LESSON OF ALL TIME
Yes, that's the first thing I think of when I think of Queen Anne, poor woman :( I can't imagine how you could erase that from her life, so if I watch it I think I'll have to pretend it's fantasy or alternate history or something.
Please do Mary Queen of Scots!!! And/Or Colette!!!
She already did.
i love a good bit of gay history talk. i'm such a massive history buff and also bi so this stuff is soooo cool
Don't you mean alleged gay history since there' not proof any of that is true?
Hilarious and informative as always more, please!!
As a history major, I greatly appreciated this ❤️ your recent degree is well-deserved!
This is so good!!x
This video is wonderful, I can't stop rewatching it
I’m THOROUGHLY enjoying these historical videos!
After a long day of exam, this video was much needed. I feel happy and full of new knowledge. Thank you :D
This is such a good VIDEO!!!!
I love your history videos!
I'm so glad there's so many people recommending Colette in the comments, I'd definitely love to get your take on such a beautiful film.
Please make videos about historical inacuracies in any film you want, this is amazing!!!!!
The audio still seems a bit weird
(Compared to other videos e.g. the style swap)
The audio seems a bit 'muffled' you could say. I also checked an earlier video just to make sure from may 2018 and the sound is much clearer in that one. Something wrong with microphone I reckon.
@@baccano2787 Maybe the editors wanted the sound to go with the vintage vibe? Sounds kinda like how microphones did a while back
I just went down in the comments to see if I was alone XD thanks X3
It was the mic.
You are such a ball of sunshine. Thank you for this wonderful video!
I looooove listening to you talking about history! You tell the stories as if you lived through those decades, amazing!
i freaking love your hair omg. also this is a great topic for a video, i feel like you're one of the only people who would make a video like this! ♥️
this is a great video!
Jessica's "fight me" is a whole mood.
It would be cool to see you review Colette. I'm seeing it next week and I can't wait!
Yes, seconding this! Colette was amazing and full of intriguing power dynamics. Jessica, I'd love to know your thoughts

An excellently insightful video. I really loved the film!
This is only my second of your videos, totally love your affect! Spot on!
I really enjoy these historical videos :)
Such a good video! I totally loved the film too 😁
Thank you for your review and a helpful insight into British history! I also really love Pride (2014). You have probably seen it as it is also based on a true story of gay and lesbian history of Britain. Have you commented on it or would you in the future?
My partner was effectively written out of the end of Pride. Sad (you can Google the Labour Party Conference and acceptance of L&G rights). I would say Google my partner, but that seems a) rude, without her say-so and b) egotistical (by proxy). So if you are interested....see what you can find out. It's more fun when there's a challenge involved, no?
I have no idea why your channel was recommended to me, but I'm so glad it was! Binge watching your videos has been an absolute joy.
This was lovely and I would absolutely love to watch you review more movies
I find you so delightful! And, I love your hair tutorials, I've started rolling my hair at night, you've ignited my inner vintage. Thank you!
You definitely have to do more of these videos. This was so extremely interesting especially the history part. 😍!!!Please!!!

Thank you for this, what a thoughtful discussion of the historical accuracy of the relationships.
I loved this!
This is such a great video! I’d never even heard of the film but this history lesson was awesome!
I’ve just found your channel and I simply adore you. A million percent subscribed and going to binge watch your videos all night
I would LOVE to see a mini series on historical inaccuracies in movies, starting with your favorites and maybe taking requests?
Please do more videos like this I love that
Well done, Very entertaining.
Thanks for all of the history behind this film.
I could sit for hours and watch you describing the timeline of monarchs in that manner....
In fact, please do.
Tipping the Velvet and Fingersmith are great historical films about lesbianism and are also novels by Sarah Waters, who is also British! Two Canadian lesbian films that are fantastic are Better Than Chocolate and When Night Is Falling
Also there is the Korean/Japanese film based on the book called The Handmaiden (2016) which is quite different to the bbc 2005 film, but also worth watching if you havent seen it :)
@@EmmaStevie22 I absolutely love the 2016 adaptation, it's amazing! The cinematography alone is breath taking!
Tipping the Velvet was incredible! I knew absolutely nothing about that world & I was amazed, & it was just a beautiful show.

Ah, only Jessica could help me understand the intricacies of British politics/the monarchy!
You could do Colette or Mary of Scots next!
That was so cool! I don't have a specific movie I'd like you to review, but I'm madly in love with history so I'll just say PLEASE DO HISTORY RELATED STUFF. 😃😄😄😄

10:44 Thanks for the warning! But seriously, I'm glad to hear that something like that can happen.
I loved your description of your channel for the subscribe and join. It was genius.
I really enjoyed your little history lessons in this video. I love looking back at the monarchical lines of the UK (as someone who isn't from there), but with the entanglement of different countries mixed in and who was related to whom, it gets a bit confusing.
Please do one of these on Mary Queen of Scots!
She already did.
@@isobelduncan yeah I commented before that
I need you to teach me all history as this is the most easily I’ve ever been able to understand.

I actually LOVE your Historical videos (I love all the other ones too) Mary Queen of Scots Video would be awesome!!!
Hey Jessica, I discovered your channel about a week ago and I swear I've binge-watched hundreds of videos by now haha, I absolutely love all of them!! Such a fan of you and your amazing self :) Anyway, I love seeing all your dresses and vintage outfits. Could you make a closet tour so we could see all your lovely clothes? Your style inspires me so I would love to see it all!! I also would adore seeing a whole home/house tour!
Who needs history books, we have you. Thank you for sharing your love of history and giving us a quick run down of the British Monarchy (is that the proper terminology?). This movie is on my list to watch. Could you do a review on Colette?
I just watched it yesterday and now I stumble upon this video! Ha!
Oh, I ABSOLUTELY care that they left out Anne's husband!! Not least because poor Anne was pregnant SEVENTEEN TIMES, but the nearest she got to an heir was her son William, who lived to be 11. To quote a book I have, "Anne was married in 1683, & with only two exceptions there was either a stillbirth, miscarriage or death in infancy every year until 1700." Pretty MAJOR part of her life, I'd say!
But thanks for a great review! I'll probably watch it for Olivia Colman, & I'll know they've erased Prince George so I won't freak out!
I was a bit confused by what you said about Charles II though- I think people WERE very happy with the Merry Monarch as their king, if only because he got rid of Cromwell's Puritan laws! (Just to massively generalise & oversimplify!)
I’ve been watching you for a while and I just realized this whole time that I wasn’t subscribed! Fixed that today
Can you make more history videos? This one was great! Also I wish I could help with the dvd player thing 😩
i love all your historical accuracy and historic lesbians videos!! history is awesome. please make more ☺️💕
I love you history it would be awesome for more history based videos
The Favourite was absolutely my favourite film of last year, so this was so interesting, learning more of the in-depth historical events!
I Love history and Love your way of explaining it! New subscriber, glad I found your channel!
Hey Jessica! I have a fun fact about the “go pro shots” you talk about! The creators (I don’t remember who there’s a lot haha) said in an interview that the fish-eye wide angle shots steadily increase throughout the film to visually illustrate the Queen’s slow decent into madness. Loved the vid!
I recently began reading a book called Christina, Queen of Sweden: The
Restless Life of a European Eccentric. It goes into detail about the
politics and personal life of Queen Christina. She was dubbed the girl
king, the girl prince etc. Because she had a very masculine way of going
about her life.
In the book, the author goes into a bit of detail in a few things, one
of them being the possibility that Queen Christina was a lesbian.
Christina had a very close relationship with one of her
ladies-in-waiting Ebba Sparre, whom she dubbed "la belle Comtesse". The
queen often talked about how hot Ebba was to everyone around her, and by
an English ambassador described as "bedfellows". When Ebba was carted
off and married, the queen never recovered and suffered a lifelong
battle with depression. This in conjunction with the fact she never
married and have a strong distaste for marriage (she described married
women as sows for men, only there to birth children and heirs), and men
may allude to something more than a close friendship.
On the other hand, the book briefly discusses the possibility that
Christina was intersex. It is rumored (source seems to be Christina
herself, but in the source, she is complaining about how prevalent this
story is at court) that Christina was born and mistaken for a male baby.
There are two versions of this story, that her cry was very deep and so
they just assumed she was male (?), or that the midwives confused
her... private bits with male genitalia. After a day or two, her aunt
told her father that Christina was, in fact, female and that everyone
who delivered this child was a moron. This leads to modern speculation
on Christina possibly being intersex, with points such as "why did
trained midwives make such a mistake" and "this may explain her
masculine behavior". Though the author of the books says she spoke to
experts on this and they do not believe this was the case, but the
confusion caused by something called a Caul.
I believe this was made into a movie on or was on netflix
@@celiawhite3071 Yes the Girl King. I have a love hate relationship with it. I love it cuz it can be hilarious. And some parts are pretty okay. Though a lot of the time I was very upset with how they protrayed what happened.
It's possible that Christina was intersex, but have you ever noticed that when a woman lives a life for herself, everyone speculates she must have had a secret penis?
@@elenachristian9860 no? Not really. I find it interesting that her birth was such an area of contention.
I don't see how a caul would confuse gender? It's a thin membrane that sometimes covers the face of a newborn infant. They would often be sold for large sums of money, as they were believed to have magical powers. Up until around the 1950's, sailors would buy a caul and carry it with them as a talisman against drowning, as sailors often couldn't swim. Surprisingly, there are no reports as to it being successful.
Would love to see you do this style of review more often! Especially on the Mary Queen of Scots film, colette and Lizzie ? 💕💕
Always happy to see another history lover.
