Watching this vid made me remember from my childhood when people lived in cottages by level crossings, canal locks, and various other spots that needed reliable care. Those people were not paid much (could get the living now though in exchange with low rent where they could take other work) but they took pride in their surroundings, knew the area and kept everything shipshape. I saw so many of those places I would have liked to live. Todays vid brought it all back.

As everyone has said a beautiful, informative & educational vlog. Think one of the TV channels should have you 'onboard' as honestly watching you is far superior to any Tv programme. Hope the HVO works well for you and am sure it could be adapted to suit all vehicles too, what a save that would be for the environment, as what will they do with all the car batteries that eventually will be past their sell by date. Your poetry and drawings are sublime and can't wait to be able to purchase one of your beautiful books, don't forget to add a pawprint or two of the lovely adorable Zephyr as well. This was just amazing you started out by showing how much you really care about the earth and the life on it. Then you took us through a big city and showed us the parks where wild life abounds. At the end the spot you found to moor was so cool that sun set was just amazing or was it a sun rise? Not sure thanks again for best 20 mins I have had today. I myself in 1974 / 75 travelled around the UK n the Continent as Australians do n loved it all particularly the countryside so different to Australia , well done love your work kind regards Josh Moss Melbourne .

Liquorice Park is over the road where I went to school although is was an allotment for years and there were a few fights to stop development by the council. You missed the Green Dragon Pub visited by medieval highway robbers in the past - some probably never left...The Brayford was bounded by a marshalling yard before the University came and a swing bridge over the Foss Dyke which I used to cycle over. Lincoln was more grim in the past but now it is pretty. The Stokes Cafe (really good coffee importers for a hundred years) is the shop on the High Street Bridge. Born and bred in Lincoln now gone, travelled around but still home in Lincolnshire - no better place!

My home City Lincoln Allthough my narrow boat (Viceroy) was at Alvechurch Birmingham Worcester Canal never ever saw the wildlife in Lincoln like you do Thanks my Friend x

My wife and I enjoyed visiting Lincoln and its magnificent cathedral at the height of summer 2022. We desperately needed to find shade and found some in the cathedral grounds. Thank you for rekindling some lovely memories, but more so for showing Lincoln from a boaters perspective, oh so different.

Cathedrals and churches are amazing places to visit when it is really hot. Some churches put signs up on the towpath on very hot days welcoming boaters in to escape the heat of their steel boats.Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Take care🦋🌻🎄

Hi Sandy, thank you for your lovely comment. At the moment, I am testing the new fuel out to see how it is working, and so far, I am very impressed with it. If only all marinas and fuel boats sold it though because there wouldn't be an unnecessary delivery to one boat and plastic needed like the funnels that they sent me. Another wonderful vlog Vanessa. Lincoln is a beautiful city that I lived just outside of in the late 60s early 70s; and the Cathedral is a most magnificent building. Moving forward to the end of the 20th Century/beginning of the 21st, I was very fortunate (through my role as Manager of the St Matthew Housing supportive accommodation home for vulnerable adults in Wisbech) to meet an ex-Dean of Lincoln Cathedral - the Honourable Oliver Fiennes - who was Chairman of St Matthew's. A lovely, easily approachable man who was very caring but also had a mischievous twinkle in his eyes! It's strange what takes us on journeys of the mind and reminds us of yesterday; so thank you for reminding me of a job I loved and just one of the special people I met because of it. Your poem at the end was both beautiful and reflective. Take care xx

Good for you for buying the HVO. I've heard good reports about it and I think it might be just as green as an electric motor and batteries, all things considered.

Lincoln is a great city Love the High Bridge I found myself ducking down as you went under some of those bridges anyone else do that too? 🙂 The sculpture is just beautiful isn't it I want to just stand and look at that for ages and then some more ages in the cathedral! Linciln is very beautiful - thanks for the town and catherdral tour. Gorgeous wildlife, beautiful camera work and lovely commentery. Your poem left a little bit of sadness behind. Soon the swallows will be off to warmer climates. We will have to wait patiently for them to return in 2023.

You'd LOVE it here in New Hampshire USA!! I have moose, bear, Lynx, wolf, coyote, white tailed deer, Bald eagles, red tailed hawks, ruby throated hummingbirds, oriels, jays, cardinals, fisher, weasle/stoat, otter, beaver...pretty much every single N.American animal except elk...in my yard! Like, literally...IN MY YARD!

Lovely video of Lincoln, Vanessa. We visited Lincoln a couple of years ago on a coach holiday. Unfortunately, our coach damaged the nearside mirror on the way there and we spent an hour in a Stagecoach bus garage where one of their fitters replaced it. So we never did get to see the city itself, only the cathedral. So an interesting day.

Lincoln Cathedral is such a beautiful structure as...and then there's the windows, just stunning 😍
Loved the view of Highbridge from your boat and appreciated the little extra bit of history of the building you gave...this makes you and your channel an absolute must for me.
The images of Lincoln at the end of the vlog for me, really hit the mark.
My favorite genre of photography is sunrise/sunsets.
I have a folder full of this very subject in photography!

Thank you again for another truly brilliant episode, Lincoln, I grew up in devon, my mother was born in Lincoln so every summer we went to Lincoln to visit relatives. In the 60s in a Bedford dormobile it took a lifetime to get there, we left glorious devon in sunshine & arriving in wet, cold, windy Lincoln for a whole week was hell. At the age of 10 i chose to stay at a friend's house rather than go again. FF>> 50Yrs I was invited to a wedding there so I went, what ? It was sunny glorious sunshine, what a beautiful historic city it is so much to see & do I loved it, I also heard Brayford pool was nearly turned into a car park before it became what it is today. And thank you for bringing back some memories

The architecture was totally stunning with that majestic tower.I think that idea was a great initiative on your part using that oil to run one’s narrowboat engine .the oil was a good price too.this is the way to go.you should be commended for your action for cleaner air quality on the canal system.I just loved your drawing of that beautiful swallow with the red breast.your so very artistically talented.I thoroughly enjoyed watching that fascinating blue tit just sitting there preening his feathers .thank you once again for such a brilliant feedback to all my questions.it was so lovely to read your very enlightening totally superb answers.I’m curious to know.since the both of you and zephyr started living on your narrowboat.have you ever encountered a really terrifying experience whilst cruising the cut.that the both of you had second thoughts about.living on a boat.if so did this isolated incident nearly deter you from living your amazing carefree lifestyle on your boat.also is there a need to have adequate security measures in place onboard a narrowboat.to prevent an unwanted intruder from forcefully breaking in.a matter of interest.has mr mindful had a go at this new craze.magnet fishing from your boat into the canal.it looks like it might be fun to try.

Hello Anthony, I really hope you had a great week last week? Thank you so much for another brilliant comment with equally brilliant questions. Throughout the time of living on our boat we have had one frightening experience but it did not make us question our lifestyle. It was around midnight and suddenly extremely loud bangs were coming from our roof and near to the windows. The sound was horrendous and I was absolutely frozen to the spot. Mr M however is much braver than me and he opened the door to see what was happening. From the other side of the canal, someone was throwing rocks, big rocks and some of them landed on the roof, but he was aiming for the windows we think. Mr M bellowed in his loudest voice and frightened the rock perpetrator to a near death, but he found his legs and ran into the night. No further rocks hit our boat but I slept that night with one eye open. As soon as the sun made an appearance, we started the engine and left, that is after carefully placing the rocks onto the towpath. We did call the police but Rock Throwing is not on the top ten crimes worth solving list. Mr M and I only get the magnet out when we drop things in the canal which actually is quite often. We did this just the other day when the row lock from our tender sank and we found it! Magnet fishing lost its appeal for us when we read stories of unexploded bombs sticking themselves to the magnet! Have a super Sunday and wonderful week ahead🦋🌻

Fantastic vlog....informative regarding the veg oil...not surprised the engine was better sounding...diesel is not heavy oil anymore..its refined to take out the particulates it's rubbish Germany Poland have not done so...i use 2stroke oil with it..although my Passat will run on bio fuel ..less mpg...must change oil filter more often !!!!
Hi Stephen, thank you for your lovely comment, so far the HVO has run really well and is heating the water through our heating system perfectly too. Hi Russell, thank you for your lovely comment. The little boat is called Little Alice and we keep her in storage over the winter and get her out for the summer so that we can explore the water that doesn't fit a narrowboat. Hopefully, I will be able to film some adventures on Little Alice. The daisy is still a work in progress as I have struggled to find moorings that are suitable to paint on. I am going to finish the first side and do some lettering first and then move onto the other side. I will film it. and put it in a vlog. 🤞 Have a wonderful weekend and take care🌻🦋

Hi Lorraine, the fuel is not being used like it could be as it is so hard to get hold of. Cars and road vehicles are not allowed to use it at the moment due to tax rules. I found out how I could get some from a boater who had found New Era Fuels which is one of the only companies that will sell to individuals. Thank you for your lovely comment. My Casper was a Labrador, he was a bugger for the water, anytime down near the canal he had to be put back of the lead.. Otherwise, he was straight in there, even in winter...
Labradors eh!🤭 Zephyr swims all year round and apparently the breed are crossed with a Canadian water dog which would swim in icy waters to retrieve shell fish for fishermen and that explains why they have webbed feet and dry off so quickly. Thank you so much for watching, take care🦋🌻

Hi there, Mutant Monkey! The per litre cost that I paid for the HVO was £1.70 and then I had to add the delivery cost too. I really hope that they start selling it on the fuel boats and in the marinas as this would be so much easier and it would lower the cost too. Thank you so much, WanabeHippie! I use a Panasonic LUMIX 2000 for most of my wildlife shots and my phone. I don’t know about cameras either to be honest but practising using them is a lot of fun so I recommend it. As for the artwork, I wanted to learn to draw when I moved onto my boat and I bought John Muir Laws Guide on how to draw and keep a nature journal. This has helped me improve and drawing every week has also helped me; my drawing was awful at the beginning!😂 Slowly it improves. Have a wonderful rest of the week. Take care🌻🦋

That's very interesting about the veg fuel. Do you have to modify your engine at all? Can you simply add it to existing conventional diesel?
You can mix it with what diesel is already in the engine and it will be fine. Also, it won't develop diesel bug as it repels it and any water content; it doesn't freeze in the cold temperatures, when you use it in your heating system no toxins will be released like diesel; it runs really well in the engine and we noticed that our engine was quieter, also if you accidentally spill any drops in the water, it doesn't create any slick and disappears immediately. Overall, I loved using it and filled Alice Grace 3 x with it, but it became unaffordable. I contacted Crown Oil who also sell it and they said at the moment, the domestic tax on it is causing the issues. The UK doesn't produce its own HVO and imports it. I am so sorry about the long answer, but I am very frustrated that we have a great, eco alternative to diesel that runs really well yet it isn't readily available and affordable. Zephyr has a strict flea and worm medication routine so that keeps her mite free. She doesn’t have any allergies so far🤞 Take care🦋🌻

I have some questions!! I was setting really jazzed about the idea of narrow boating...relocating from the U.S....selling my house..But now I've got reservations. Crime, break ins, price of mooring ?! Can you clarify? Will I be spending $1,000 GBP a month for mooring IF I can get one?!! I thought it was more like $$200/mo?!
Thank you for your questions. The license fee varies depending on your boat size and length and whether you are going to continuously cruise or have a permanent mooring. Look on the Canal and River Trust website for the cost breakdown. I have lived on my boat for nearly five years and so far, have not been broken into or the victim of crime so don’t worry about that one. I hope this helps you to keep your dream alive? Take care🦋🌻
