It looks like you weren't lucky enough to see the Lancaster, Spitfire, and Hurricane of the Battle of Britain flight that are based there. We had a great flying display last time we were there. Oh how fabulous this is a real Friday afternoon treat Coningsby have Typhoon Fighters and do training on the jets I think and you got a Chinook as well! They fly over me and it certainly is such a noise! But what is with all this weed!! Goodness! What a lovely vlog, as relaxing as usual ... well apart from the jets and the chinook. We used to live on a farm in Oxfordshire and our neighbours field was used for training chinook helicopter pilots to put down and pick up the huge payloads that they carry during the day and occasionally at night. Watching a huge helicopter flying low over the Velux window in the bathroom while I was laying relaxing in bubbles was disconcerting to say the least 😀 🤣

Just when I thought your videos couldn't get any better I come across this beauty Thwe cruise through mushy peas was awesome and Zeph's surprise when she comes across the sculptures 🙂 so cute. I've got loud planes around here. So loud the car alarms go off. Congratulations on 5k subs. I'm currently stuck on a shallow river just before the turn around Point. I have to reverse now for miles. Life on the rivers and canals it's never boring. I thought those sculptures were real sheep when I first saw them. I'd eat that Apple mush. Looked lovely. Take very good care Mrs Mindful.

What a great vlog. We were in that area recently and we loved going to Coningsby to watch the Battle Of Britain planes practicing. Such a lot of duck weed but much better than that dreaded blanket weed. Amazing information about the fish protection that is happening on the river. I always learn new things from your Vlog. The military planes are noisy, I agree. You were lucky that they weren’t practicing low flying, where you think they are going to decapitate you and you can see the colour of the pilot’s eyes! Or night flying, but they have to give notice for that. Great video, Vanessa, thank you so much. Loved the shots of the reed warblers, little birds that are usually heard but not seen xx

What a interesting nature vlog Vanessa most people would just walk by without noticing they were there🕷🪳🐟🦢🦆, did the mushy pea cause any problems with the weed hatch? Alice Grace looks lovely with her aray of flowers and veg on her roof. Hello Cath, I am chuffed that my vlogs are a relaxing break for you. Thank you so much for letting me know 😊 I have the apple slop recipe, here we go: 4 chopped apples, 15ml of lemon juice, 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 1/3 cup of plain flour, 60g of quick cooking oats, 50g of softened butter. In that order, I put it in my bread oven tub and put on the dessert setting. I am a gluten free vegan so I use the vegan and gf options for the ingredients. It’s yumberly and quite healthy I think! I so look forward to tuning in to your vlogs Vanessa - and they never disappoint. Zephyr's confused reaction to the lifelike but not real sheep was priceless! What an intelligent dog to know these weren't 'normal' and warranted a question. Sorry, but I had to chuckle to myself when you moored up for a bit of peace and quiet right by RAF Coningsby - home to our combat-ready squadrons and the training station for Typhoon pilots! Lincoln, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk are home to many of the remaining RAF bases still operational from WW2 - the flat landscape is perfect for runways. With the current problems in Ukraine our fighter planes are doing manoeuvres even more frequently than normal and although they are noisy the message they are sending you is that they will keep you safe. The Red Arrows also are based not far away at RAF Scampton so you could have seen them flying off as well to attend a Carnival or Air Show. I think those geese in formation have been watching the Arrows for tips! Your Apple Slop looks delicious 😋; and your very clever niece is yet another creative genius in the family. When I found your vlog it was the best that RUclips has to offer for me. Your ability of presentation about all the subjects that most of us seam unable to see. Nature, trees, insects, wild life and sounds are beautiful. Your love of Zephyr and letting her be a free natured dog is wonderful. Poetry and sketching's of yours are calming and relaxing, as I also had a live of anxiety through my career. I am a observer watching your videos and can't always tell if you are alone, as some camera angles are capturing you by a moving camera. Canada is my place of wonder for the past 85 years and I wish you all the best. Only thing, when I watch you sit at the table and talk to the camera I have to turn my volume way up. No I'm not deaf just my ears have trouble picking up on your accent, a lapel mic would help. Keep them coming and only family I have see is your daughter.

I am sorry about the earlier vlogs and the audio issues; I had several techy problems when I began this crazy world of RUclips and even though it isn't perfect now, it is much better than it was...I hope? My husband lives with me on the boat and very occasionally, he holds the camera, but he really doesn't want to be in the videos and so I respect his privacy. My daughter is fine with being included in some of the vlogs when she visits, but my son prefers not to be on film too. 'Mushy peas'.. how does this weed become such a problem in certain areas is it transferred by the boats, drainage from farms, or what??? Your photography is beautiful as usual. I guess it was quiet at night, but those jet fighters are very noisy when they are overhead. So are the geese! Horrible green algae on the water, but the swans didn't seem to mind. Is it the warm weather causing that? Take good care xx

Truly one was so very intrigued by this week’s absolutely fabulous vlog.just totally mesmerised by the sheer quality of your amazing video footage throughout.you certainly captured the beauty of the wildlife in such fantastic detail.could you let me know.how much storage is readily available within your narrowboat cabin area.is there ample storage in the bedroom section of the boat.also what don’t you need and can do without when actually moving onto a typical narrowboat layout.what are the main essential items do you think one needs to bring onboard without seriously cluttering up the whole floor space throughout.I’m curious to know.do you go on holiday.if so do you pay to moor up at a marina for the duration of your vacation.or is the canal one big long very exciting wildlife adventure holiday for the both of you.also whilst continuously cruising the cut.is there a truly amazing camaraderie between your fellow nomadic narrowboat community anywhere you might moor up to stay for a while.your slop Apple looks very delicious.so yummy for one’s tummy.to reiterate on a narrowboat purchase.in your own candid opinion.what would be the best option.to have a narrowboat built to your own specifications and internal design throughout of your choice.or just browse around for a second hand boat in one of the many marinas .would it be possible for you to compile a list of wildflowers and fruit that one can safely eat.or to totally avoid which grows alongside the canal and in the woodlands areas.which will not cause serious problems with your digestive system.or could be potentially very dangerous to one’s health if eaten in large quantities.I do readily admit I’m a complete novice when it comes to other forms of eating like this. Hello Anthony, it’s lovely to have a comment from you this week. I hope you are ok? Yet again some great questions, here we go: Storage is something that we are continuously working on. Mr M made some wardrobes which are perfect for more clothes space and we had storage stairs built too. We plan to add shelving and more cupboards as our boat wasn’t previously being used as a live aboard boat so storage wasn’t really a priority for the previous owners. Boat builds are excellent if you have the money as that way it can be made to your specification. I am very happy with my boat though and making it better is exciting too. I know lots of people who are very happy in their marinas and there are some excellent ones out there, but for now, we love continuously cruising, especially in the winter when you have to forage for your wood and deal with icy conditions. See how close that antenna was to Lucy's face! I asked an engineer with 30 years experience in helping people with sensitivities what he thought of that sort of system you mentioned you learned from the foxes and he explained these really need to be erected much higher so as not to be in line with your face or body [or those walking past] and you see some boats are doing that.... at the moment it's like the cigarette industry - remember how long it took to get the regulations there cleaned up, don't expect proper safety instructions any time soon but they will come...
You of course amaze me with your eye and skilss in videos. But your camera also amazes me. It wins you the Bafta for best colour saturation of a video.....but also the coveted I'm a narrowboater and my Canal Water is the Best BLUE Water ever Seen On A Canal Video Award. Which sadly very very few other narrowboat video personages have ever only fleetingly achieved. They seem content with the grey and browns. Your New Attenborough title is secure, and you keep proving it. :) One thing really bothers me tho........No Apple Thingy Recipe????? What?

Oh my Francis, it sounds like you have had a bad experience with spiders. We do get a lot onboard and I keep one by the front and back door as they do a good job of keeping out the flies. The others, I put in a little container and take them outside. I haven’t been bitten so I quite like them, especially after reading Charlotte’s Web. Have a wonderful evening. Take care🌻🦋
A bread update: I woke up one morning, several months later, after making one brick after another in bread, and the bread machine was gone!👀 Mr M had decided to give it away before I started making another loaf in it!😂🍞 But good news- I have discovered that I can eat sourdough as the gluten doesn't upset me in this kind of bread and Mr M and I have started a sourdough starter which is making some decent bread!🍞🍞🥳 Thank you for watching, take care🦋🌻

Question: Has anybody discovered any use for the "mushy pea" floating in the canal? Can it be used for fertilizer or something else? Would really like to know, not being from England and unfamiliar with canal idiosyncracies.
Hi Alex, excellent question! I read that it can be used as a bio fuel and also that it can play a useful role in absorbing carbon, but I don’t think it is being used like that yet. What a lovely vlog, as relaxing as usual ... well apart from the jets and the chinook. We used to live on a farm in Oxfordshire and our neighbours field was used for training chinook helicopter pilots to put down and pick up the huge payloads that they carry during the day and occasionally at night. Watching a huge helicopter flying low over the Velux window in the bathroom while I was laying relaxing in bubbles was disconcerting to say the least 😀 🤣

Just when I thought your videos couldn't get any better I come across this beauty Thwe cruise through mushy peas was awesome and Zeph's surprise when she comes across the sculptures 🙂 so cute. That's a great idea putting wet towels down for her feet; I'm going to try that with my dog in this heat. Also going to try making some apple slop 😋 I have no idea of the weights of the ingredients so I wonder how it'll turn out. Looked yummy with the custard on top 😋

I've got loud planes around here. So loud the car alarms go off. Congratulations on 5k subs. I'm currently stuck on a shallow river just before the turn around Point. I have to reverse now for miles. Life on the rivers and canals it's never boring. I thought those sculptures were real sheep when I first saw them. I'd eat that Apple mush. Looked lovely. Take very good care Mrs Mindful.

The military planes are noisy, I agree. You were lucky that they weren’t practicing low flying, where you think they are going to decapitate you and you can see the colour of the pilot’s eyes! Hello Cath, I am chuffed that my vlogs are a relaxing break for you. Thank you so much for letting me know 😊 I have the apple slop recipe, here we go: 4 chopped apples, 15ml of lemon juice, 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 1/3 cup of plain flour, 60g of quick cooking oats, 50g of softened butter. In that order, I put it in my bread oven tub and put on the dessert setting. I am a gluten free vegan so I use the vegan and gf options for the ingredients. It’s yumberly and quite healthy I think! I so look forward to tuning in to your vlogs Vanessa - and they never disappoint. Zephyr's confused reaction to the lifelike but not real sheep was priceless! What an intelligent dog to know these weren't 'normal' and warranted a question. Sorry, but I had to chuckle to myself when you moored up for a bit of peace and quiet right by RAF Coningsby - home to our combat-ready squadrons and the training station for Typhoon pilots! Lincoln, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk are home to many of the remaining RAF bases still operational from WW2 - the flat landscape is perfect for runways. With the current problems in Ukraine our fighter planes are doing manoeuvres even more frequently than normal and although they are noisy the message they are sending you is that they will keep you safe. The Red Arrows also are based not far away at RAF Scampton so you could have seen them flying off as well to attend a Carnival or Air Show. I think those geese in formation have been watching the Arrows for tips! Your Apple Slop looks delicious 😋; and your very clever niece is yet another creative genius in the family. When I found your vlog it was the best that RUclips has to offer for me. Your ability of presentation about all the subjects that most of us seam unable to see. Nature, trees, insects, wild life and sounds are beautiful. Your love of Zephyr and letting her be a free natured dog is wonderful. Poetry and sketching's of yours are calming and relaxing, as I also had a live of anxiety through my career. I am a observer watching your videos and can't always tell if you are alone, as some camera angles are capturing you by a moving camera. Canada is my place of wonder for the past 85 years and I wish you all the best. Only thing, when I watch you sit at the table and talk to the camera I have to turn my volume way up. No I'm not deaf just my ears have trouble picking up on your accent, a lapel mic would help. Keep them coming and only family I have see is your daughter.

My daughter is fine with being included in some of the vlogs when she visits, but my son prefers not to be on film too. Zephyr made me smile as he cautiously sneaked up on the sculpture. Apple slop I must have a try at that. I love the way you capture the tiniest critters. 💚

I guess it was quiet at night, but those jet fighters are very noisy when they are overhead. So are the geese!
Horrible green algae on the water, but the swans didn't seem to mind. Is it the warm weather causing that?

Truly one was so very intrigued by this week’s absolutely fabulous vlog.just totally mesmerised by the sheer quality of your amazing video footage throughout.you certainly captured the beauty of the wildlife in such fantastic detail.could you let me know.how much storage is readily available within your narrowboat cabin area.is there ample storage in the bedroom section of the boat.also what don’t you need and can do without when actually moving onto a typical narrowboat layout.what are the main essential items do you think one needs to bring onboard without seriously cluttering up the whole floor space throughout.I’m curious to know.do you go on holiday.if so do you pay to moor up at a marina for the duration of your vacation.or is the canal one big long very exciting wildlife adventure holiday for the both of you.also whilst continuously cruising the cut.is there a truly amazing camaraderie between your fellow nomadic narrowboat community anywhere you might moor up to stay for a while.your slop Apple looks very delicious.so yummy for one’s tummy.to reiterate on a narrowboat purchase.in your own candid opinion.what would be the best option.to have a narrowboat built to your own specifications and internal design throughout of your choice.or just browse around for a second hand boat in one of the many marinas .would it be possible for you to compile a list of wildflowers and fruit that one can safely eat.or to totally avoid which grows alongside the canal and in the woodlands areas.which will not cause serious problems with your digestive system.or could be potentially very dangerous to one’s health if eaten in large quantities.I do readily admit I’m a complete novice when it comes to other forms of eating like this.
Is there a need to purchase any special additional equipment when actually living on a narrowboat.which is crucial for the day to day smooth running of a boat in general.hope the both of you have an amazing week just cruising the cut.
Hello Anthony, it’s lovely to have a comment from you this week. I hope you are ok? Yet again some great questions, here we go:
Storage is something that we are continuously working on. Mr M made some wardrobes which are perfect for more clothes space and we had storage stairs built too. We plan to add shelving and more cupboards as our boat wasn’t previously being used as a live aboard boat so storage wasn’t really a priority
for the previous owners.
Boat builds are excellent if you have the money as that way it can be made to your specification. I am very happy with my boat though and making it better is exciting too.
I know lots of people who are very happy in their marinas and there are some excellent ones out there, but for now, we love continuously cruising, especially in the winter when you have to forage for your wood and deal with icy conditions.

See how close that antenna was to Lucy's face! I asked an engineer with 30 years experience in helping people with sensitivities what he thought of that sort of system you mentioned you learned from the foxes and he explained these really need to be erected much higher so as not to be in line with your face or body [or those walking past] and you see some boats are doing that.... at the moment it's like the cigarette industry - remember how long it took to get the regulations there cleaned up, don't expect proper safety instructions any time soon but they will come...

You of course amaze me with your eye and skilss in videos. But your camera also amazes me. It wins you the Bafta for best colour saturation of a video.....but also the coveted I'm a narrowboater and my Canal Water is the Best BLUE Water ever Seen On A Canal Video Award. Which sadly very very few other narrowboat video personages have ever only fleetingly achieved. They seem content with the grey and browns.

As always love the birds. Do you have many spiders on your boat? Got to say not much of a fan of spiders having been bit twice by black widows and being very sick from it.
Oh my Francis, it sounds like you have had a bad experience with spiders. We do get a lot onboard and I keep one by the front and back door as they do a good job of keeping out the flies. The others, I put in a little container and take them outside. I haven’t been bitten so I quite like them, especially after reading Charlotte’s Web. Have a wonderful evening. Take care🌻🦋
Apple bread ? Love apples
A bread update: I woke up one morning, several months later, after making one brick after another in bread, and the bread machine was gone!👀 Mr M had decided to give it away before I started making another loaf in it!😂🍞 But good news- I have discovered that I can eat sourdough as the gluten doesn't upset me in this kind of bread and Mr M and I have started a sourdough starter which is making some decent bread!🍞🍞🥳 Thank you for watching, take care🦋🌻

Question: Has anybody discovered any use for the "mushy pea" floating in the canal? Can it be used for fertilizer or something else? Would really like to know, not being from England and unfamiliar with canal idiosyncracies.
Hi Alex, excellent question! I read that it can be used as a bio fuel and also that it can play a useful role in absorbing carbon, but I don’t think it is being used like that yet.
