I’m really sorry to hear about your Auntie passing away, what a lovely gesture it is to dedicate this vlog to her. I loved the wildlife in this vlog, the butterflies and bees were enjoying the humble dandelion. Amazing how you’d decided to plant some leaves from the cuckoo plant when you heard an elusive cuckoo, so good to hear that they haven’t left the area after all. How exciting about your journal, I didn’t know you had an Etsy shop, I’ll have to take a look. Gorgeous art as always. Zephyr was an absolute joy to watch too. Take care, lots of love. X
Hi Shirley, thank you so much for your lovely comment. After I heard the cuckoo, I mentioned it to a passing birder who told me that he knows of several cuckoos that are along the canal here this year! It is an amazing waterway here with all of the reeds and wildlflowers and there are butterflies and insects everywhere!💚 Have a wonderful weekend, take care🌻🦋

The orange-tipped butterflies, llamas, horse, and other birds and insects were really fun to see. I have a friend who comes over every year from NZ and we always do a pilgrimage to see our old school, we will have to have a pint in the Mughouse then. Hi Jack, definitely go to The Mughouse, it's such a unique pub! The Grand National winner of 2014 was trained very close to the pub as well and some of the horses there are beautiful. Thank you so much for watching. Have a super rest of the weekend, take care🦋🌻
I so enjoyed hearing the Cuckoo bird. We don’t have them here in Canada. I was listening to a vlog that was taken in Italy and hear them quit often. I love birds. We have Cardinals, Waxwings, Ruby Hummingbird, Orillia, Redwing Blackbirds, Chickadees, Palliated Woodpeckers and so much more around our home. I do love your cheeky Robin. Our Robin is actually a Thrush and I have two nesting, one in the gazebo and one under the deck...they are also cheeky and like to dive bomb you when nesting. Was it Martin Doolaard that you were listening to? I watch his incredible vlogs and I could hear the cuckoo in last week's one too? Oh how wonderful to have nesting birds in your own garden! It must be amazing to sit and watch it all from your own home. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
Yes, it was Martin Doolaard..I do enjoy his gentle way of explaining things. Our family cottage was on the Severn River about one hour north of our home.🇨🇦
I am so glad I have my PC back I have had a really bad couple of weeks I was in a dark place for a while but that's all changed thanks to you and your videos. You have taught my self and so many others to be mindful of the small blessings in life in the form of aunts, sparkling water and orange tipped butterflies along with cuckoo flowers and birds. It was too bad you could not get the Lamas to come to you, Did you offer them treats? I also love the way you chose to honor you uncle and aunt I too am old but not quite that old and still mindful of the short time I have left on this earth. So thanks again for being there and lifting my sprits see you next Friday.
I am so sorry to hear that you have been in a dark place these past few weeks, Steve, but I am pleased to hear that you are feeling better. Thank you so much for your kindness and for taking the time to write me a lovely comment. I really appreciate it. I wish you a happy and wonderful week ahead, take care🌻🦋

I find your beautiful portraits after canals and drawn exquisitely followed bye a little poetry. You’re a very clever lady. I wish I could do that. I need to purchase one of your journals for my friend in America. You take care forward to hearing from you.
Thank you so much for such a kind comment. I really appreciate your words. I have practised very hard with my drawing and I feel fortunate to have a little time each week in which to dedicate to it; I know that if you had some time, you too could do the same as me- I promise you. Take care🦋🌻
I am so pleased that you enjoyed it, Mary!😊 There is so much to see along this stretch of water. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful week, take care🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa. So sorry to hear about your Auntie. Glad you found the cuckoo flower to remember her. Beautiful filming of the wildlife. Looks like a very nice canal. Great poem and drawings in your journal. Take care. Nick
Thanks for taking us along on this beautiful cruise on a new canal with lots of wild life, I'm sorry for the loss of your Aunt. As always your journal is lovely, I'm looking forward to the publishment of it and the greeting cards look great. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Evening Vanessa what a great vlog as usual 😊, You showed great camera work capturing the wildlife in its glory going about their day today business, it was so nice to see u planting a tree and plant to remember ur late uncle and Aunt. Congratulations on ur achievement on the forthcoming publication of your journal and cards I'm so pleased for u 🎉., its like l said a few months ago people in future will be going on the trail of the Mindful Narrowboater and her journal exploits. Thanks again and have a great weekend xx✍️🐕🐛🕷🌻🦙🦙🦙
Aw Simon, that is such a lovely comment, thank you so much😊 I was over the moon, when I found my little sycamore tree! I really hope the cuckoo flower propagation works too🤞 I think, in terms of the Mindful Narrowboat trail, it will probably be more like "Up the Garden Path!"😂 I really appreciate your support, you have been there from the beginning and I'm so grateful you're still watching each week. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
Spring is beautiful again, green and blooming when you are sailing is a party. You are a wonderful woman, with a heart filled with love. How nice that the channel has been restored to its former function. And your Labrador is a beautiful hand, one that loves water. My deepest condolences on the passing of your Aunt Eileen. Hans
Sorry for the loss of your Aunt xx Great vlog this week, so pleased you heard a cuckoo. I remember hearing them a lot as a child, sadly haven’t heard one for years in Guernsey.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am sad to hear that you haven't heard any cuckoos, but I bet you have some amazing wildlife where you are? Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat oh yes we are very much spoilt here for wildlife. Lots of great little nature reserves. My little girl was super excited to see Kingfisher last year. One of our favourite things is watching the Cormorant/Shags I never can identify them apart lol, we love watching them down the harbour diving for fish.
So pleased you heard the cuckoo. Swifts about a week late here. They made my birthday today screaming round my house. Signifies summer on the doorstep. Loved another vlog. Keep well and happy xxx
Happy birthday, Richard!🥳🥳 Spooky, I saw two swifts today for the first time this year too! Do they nest in your roof? How amazing to have them in your garden. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat they used to nest in my roof but daughter complained they. Keep her awake. Ex mrs removed the nest and they moved 3 doors up the road. They still swoop around garden specially when the twins visit. xxx

Another fantastic video your passion and knowledge for nature is bang on and yes ive been lucky enough to hear a cuckoo aswell every day now for the past 2 weeks ...summer is here everything is so lush this year Thank you Vanessa 🌿 🍀 🐦
I’m so pleased that you regularly hear your cuckoo. That is reassuring to hear. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful weekend, take care 🌻🦋
I thoroughly enjoyed floating down the canal with you and all the wildlife as I started my day with toast, coffee and Vanessa! I am itching with excitement to get my sticky paws on your wildlife journal. What an achievement. xxx
I am delighted to be part of coffee and toast, Rozanna! I am so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful week, take care🌻🦋
So sorry for your loss, but what a neat connection with a flower and a bird! Congratulations on your budding publishing career - I've said before that your artistic talent deserves a wider audience. I will say, though, that at 13:20 I believe the llamas may have been thinking the same thing that Zephyr was thinking at 12:01. Just sayin'.
The Llamas were definitely thinking the same thing- what expressions of disapproval they had too!😂 Thank you so much for your kind words, Brewster. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
Well now I didn't know what you meant when you first talked about cuckoo flowers - but when I saw them I think these might also be called Lady's-smock? Such a beautiful tribute to your aunty 🌼 And that whiplash rove beetle 😂 fabulous name! Delightful vlog Thank you Take care 🙏
Hi Margaret, yes you are right its other names are Lady's Smock and Milkmaids, such super names! I hope that I can propagate it from the leaves. I read that it works best from the basal leaves, so I picked both the stem and basal leaves. 🤞 The Whiplash Rove beetle was beautiful wasn't it? 😍I read that it gets its name because if it is crushed against human skin, it can leave a nasty rash, and then I thought, who would crush it against their skin?😳 Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
I am so proud on your behalf because you are the, and I'm sorry he isn't politically correct today, Rolf Harris of the canals. Above all, I'm pleased you are actually now publishing your incredible work. your talent will now outlive us both. It is cast in print.
I adore the sound of the cuckoo - my cuckoo used to arrive on my land in Spain every March without fail. Now I live in a noisy, polluted city and I never hear one. It’s been 13 years since I left the land. I have to confess, hearing your cuckoo made me cry. I miss the sounds of nature so much. Motorbikes and police sirens are no substitute for God’s wonderful creation.
Oh Karen, I am so sorry that the sound of the cuckoo made you cry. I hope there are some green spaces nearby to you as it is so important to be able to spend time in nature when you can. I really hope you get to hear the cuckoo again.🤞🍀 Thank you so much for watching, take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat please don’t be sorry, it wasn’t crying in a bad way, it was so spontaneous, from the heart, and it made me realise how much I miss the sounds of nature and need to get a 5 yr plan going, to get back to a softer way of life. I’m in awe of your lifestyle choice and can’t wait to watch more of your videos.
Zephyr is like a seal in the water; she would happily spend all day swimming. Thank you for your lovely comment, Nanci. Enjoy the rest of your week, take care🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa, I'm so sorry for the loss of your Aunty Eileen, she would have loved her beautiful tribute I'm sure. How incredible you heard the cuckoo! I don't think I have ever heard one, although when I was a child I always thought the pigeons cooing were woodpeckers! Isn't it such a wonderful time of year? So much is going on in nature, although yesterday for the second year running the woodpecker is trying to drill through the bird boxes to get at the tit chicks :( and poor Percy the pheasant has an injured leg...He hopped all the way down the garden last night and looked such a sorry sight. I am so excited for the release of your 2022 journal and shall definitely purchase a copy to remember our short time spent together. Sending love and hugs xxx
Hi Lizzie, your poor pheasant! Do you think he’s been fighting other males? Your garden sounds like a nature’s soap opera; it must be wonderful to just watch it for a while. I bet, if you head to a reed bed nature reserve near you, you’ll hear a cuckoo. It is a sound that will make you jump for joy when you’re near it. I hope you are managing with all of the different pollens in the air. Is your village saying “no to the mow?” I hope so 🤞 ooh that rhymes!😂 Thank you for your lovely comment! Have a wonderful rest of the week, take care🌻🦋
How glorious to see the birds, the newly hatched ducklings and moor hens, the butterflies and bugs and to hear the Cuckoo! Thankyou so much for bringing these wonderful creatures close to us. My condolences about your auntie and lovely that you found the Cuckoos flower to commemorate her! Keep well and happy cruising until next week. xo
Such a beautiful canal Vanessa with so much wildlife. I hope the cuckoo flower takes root and really flowers in your aunt's memory just like the sycamore tree has. So looking forward to your book. Have a lovely week ahead x
Hi Lydia, I hope the cuckoo flower works too. Apparently, little shoots should start appearing from the leaves soon🤞 I planted the basal leaves and the stem leaves just to make sure. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
Hi Vanessa, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I had a vlog out last week, but I had to upload it twice which is why you might have missed it? The cuckoo flower is also called Lady's Smock and Milkmaids, so you might know it by another name? Have a wonderful rest of the weekend, take care🌻🦋
Ooohh! That is so exciting to hear it in your garden! I'm sure that it will return. 🤞🤞 Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
Hi Vanessa, love your blog. All the Llamas you saw are in fact Alpacas. The difference between the two is the alpaca has a top knot (fringe) on its head. Plus the Llamas have much bigger ears and longer knecks.
It is a beauty! Are you still stuck on the Nene? I hope you're ok.Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend, Mr NB Will! Take care🌻🦋
Another brilliant vlog, showing the beautiful wildlife and your lovely crazy hound Zephyr. Wonderful news about your journal. So sorry to hear your sad news. What a lovely thing to do, planting a flower as a memorial to her. Take care ❤

i had a fledgling on my garden lawn a few years ago. i felt sorry for the poor tiny parents (thrushes) with it because they looked worn out from raising this gigantic baby.
Hi thank you so much, some wonderful videography there, hope you are all well and safe out there, great to hear the cuckoo, haven't heard one here in deepest Somerset yet but fingers crossed. Take care and thanks for posting x
Pity the cuckoo bird is so plain & horrid to other birds with such a fabulous sound synonymous with spring that is magical Your art work is so beautiful 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Sue, thank you so much for your lovely comment. The cuckoo call is definitely the sound of spring isn't it? I'm not sure the warblers appreciate it as much as me though! Have a wonderful weekend, take care🌻🦋
Never seen Zephyr swimming and taking a drink from the canal. Bless her. Love your cards, how nice to have them printed. So nice and calming as it always is. Keep warm and hopefully the sun will be here very soon. I can't wait.
Zephyr absolutely loves swimming and if she had her choice she would be in the river and canal 24 hours a day! Thank you so much for your comment. Take care🦋🌻
cross country from worcester (to the west) is tenbury wells which holds christmas auctions of holly and mistletoe attended by buyers from all over the country. the cider apple orchards of the area are famous for mistletoe growing.
The UK has lost 114 million birds as of 2022. I don't see the huge flocks starlings or sparrows as you used to in the 80's. You used to get lots of starling sitting on telephone wires. However, this year I have seen rather a lot of them, enough to to make a good sized murmeration. So I live in hope.
That is a devastating amount of bird’s lost isn’t it? There is more awareness now and like you, I always live in hope. Thank you for watching. Have a wonderful weekend, take care 🌻🦋

Sorry for the loss of your aunt, sounds like she had a full life, may she rest in peace. I love the dandelion, I don't call it a weed like most do, it's a beautiful flower that nature has given us. The cuckoo flowers beautiful. How wonderful to hear the cuckoo, hope you notified someone that you heard it, hopefully it will breed. Zephyr just loves the water. ❤

I so look forward to the end of each of your videos as you always save the very best for last. Your talent and hard work are both a gift and a treasure to our world. Thank you so much for this weeks installment, I am never disappointed to be sure. I'm left to wonder . . . in your professional life, were you a botanist, a teacher of horticulture ? You possess an unusual amount of knowledge in the world of plant life, birds, bees, etc. and I find it all very refreshing as well, educational. Sending you and Mr. M all my very best wishes from Avondale, Arizona.
Michael, you are such a kind and thoughtful person, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I really appreciate your words. I was a teacher for 25 years and still teach online now. It brings me a great deal of peace and happiness. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
I've not heard a cuckoo for years, around here in Cheshire. I think that two of those Llama's were Alpacas, the ones that appear to be earless, and a fatter face!
I didn't hear a cuckoo last year, but the Cambridge Fens ( where I was 2 years ago) and now the Droitwich, have excellent reed beds and I think that makes all of the difference which is why they return to those places. I think you're right about the llama and alpaca mixture. They are super creatures aren't they? Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻

Just be aware that if you decide to plant the tree in the wild that the seeds when they come up as seedlings are very poisonous to horses. So just be aware not to plant the tree anywhere near where you see horses grazing. Xx

Take care🦋🌻
You have a tremendous ability to entertain and educate in a seamless manner. Please put me on the list for a copy of your book. Happy landings.

@@themindfulnarrowboat your welcome Vanessa my regards to Mr Mindful as well, and a stroke for Zephyr.
Hans
What a kind and thoughtful comment, Hans- Thank you, so much! Have a wonderful week, take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat thank you Vanessa xx
@@themindfulnarrowboat they used to nest in my roof but daughter complained they. Keep her awake. Ex mrs removed the nest and they moved 3 doors up the road. They still swoop around garden specially when the twins visit. xxx
I loved the way you honoured your relations. And hearing that cuckoo. I haven’t heard for years. ❤
Thank you so much, Sheila for your kind comment. Planting for a lost loved really helps me and I was over the moon when I found my little sycamore tree. I hope you get to hear a cuckoo this year.🤞 Have a wonderful weekend, take care🦋🌻
Another fantastic video your passion and knowledge for nature is bang on and yes ive been lucky enough to hear a cuckoo aswell every day now for the past 2 weeks ...summer is here everything is so lush this year
Thank you Vanessa 🌿 🍀 🐦
What a wonderful vlog in every way possible so sorry for your loss .Haven’t heard the coukcoo for many years so glad to hear it once again tc now 👋
Thank you so much, Ann for your lovely comment. I am so pleased that you enjoyed it. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🌻🦋
I’ve been looking forward to a copy of your journal- well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😁
Thank you so much 😊 I’ll keep you updated. Thank you for your lovely comment, take care🌻🦋
I am so proud on your behalf because you are the, and I'm sorry he isn't politically correct today, Rolf Harris of the canals. Above all, I'm pleased you are actually now publishing your incredible work. your talent will now outlive us both. It is cast in print.
Thank you so much for your encouragement, Raymond, it is very kind of you and I really appreciate it. Have a wonderful weekend, take care🌻🦋

So nice to be watching you again. Missed seeing you last week. Hope you are staying well. Lovely birds. Never heard of a cuckoo flower.
I heard a Cuckoo in our back garden this week. It was 5am and i only heard it once, but hope it stays.
🙊😬 So that’s why they ignored me!😂 I don’t blame them now. Thank you so much for explaining that. 👍🤩 Have a wonderful weekend, take care🌻🦋
