I love George Lynch, a lot. He's one of my favorites. But come on, people, let's get real here. George did NOT want to be in Dokken at the time of this tour and Reb was hired to do a job. Although they are distinctly different players, but share a sense of style that is unique to them. He was not a Lynch clone, but this was some downright ferocious guitar playing. You can't deny Reb's talent. Respect.
Agree. The aggravating thing with George is not wanting to duplicate their recordings live. Btw, in no way am I suggesting Reb could be George. He's simply a great player that will at least commit to trying to hold true the recognized solos...
Biggest Lynch fan but totally respect Reb. Whats weird about Lynch is he nails certain solos and others he's way off. I'm not necessarily saying he was performing a horrible solo live, more like ad libbing.
Thanks for acknowledging that it was George who didn't want to be in Dokken. If you know the whole story it's impossible not to take Don's side in the feud. George is (was?) a phenomenal guitarist but he is a toxic human being. The fact that Jeff and Mick sometimes back up George's side doesn't mean a thing. Breaking the Chains was a solo album and none of the other members liked the fact that Don could make music 90% as good without them. He proved this irrefutably on Up from the Ashes and in many live performances.
Very, very few of the elite names in shred can perform to this level in a live situation. Beach is as good as a guitarist can actually get in terms of performance.
There are a lot of talented guitar players out there, but Beach is "special". Everything he plays is clean and precise. I've never heard him hit a bad note before.
Lynch wrote those blistering solos so he gets the nod every time, but RB showed that he can waltz up and down those solos without breaking much of a sweat. Not many can do that...which speaks to RB massive talents.
You know Reb Beach and George Lynch then just pass off Pilson as the bass player?? Dude show some respect!! Jeff Pilson is everything to Dokken, to Dio in the 90’s, to Black Swan and Revolution Saints and The End Machine currently!!!
From a technical standpoint Reb crushed Lynches solo's, period. His tap style is so impressive, his triplets n quads crush most other players because of his right hand technique. Of course he's not going to play Lynch's solo's with the same feel as the creator of those solo's, but the sad fact is he destroy's them technically. And I love that interview and what he says about Kirk Hammett, so true. This guy is so completely underrated it's tragic.
George is a really cool dude. Humble as they come. He OPENED for my band a couple years ago for SXSW. I expected a pompous attitude and a huge ego. I was totally wrong. He stood their eating tacos while we played. Liked us as much as we liked his band.
Just because he's replacing G.Lynch doesnt mean he has to copy every single aspect of him. Rob is genuinely a great and talented guitarist, and he's putting effort to fill for George, and in my opinion he's doing a great job. I was listening to the video while doing other work and whenever I get carried, it feels like im listening to George, and I only realize its rob when i get back to the video
Thank you for sharing this compilations of Reb Beach doing the guitar solos for Dokken live.. he is an amazing guitarist..he did a great job delivering all the solo parts. Really professional live performances. Even his vibrato is so similar with Lynch here
I am a Big George Lynch fan, ... But ..Reb Beach took it to another phase that George didn't go to.. This is the Best version of DOKKEN I have witnessed! 3:)
I absolutely love both George Lynch and Reb Beach's guitar playing. Reb definitely did justice to all the songs. I enjoy listening to both Beast From The East because of George and Live From The Sun because of Reb.
Never knew who the hell reb beach was until early this year at download festival when he played with whitesnake. After getting back from the weekend, he was so good I had to look him up instantly.there was only one other guitarist that whole weekend who came close to his talent and sound. That person was John petrucci. Reb has to be in my top 5 live players I've ever seen, And that was before I knew who he was.
It's probably impossible to replicate George Lynch solos exactly because he was such a monster stream of consciousness player. No formal training and yet he wipes the floor with most of his contemporaries.
Been a Dokken, Lynch fan from the beginning and still am. Reb did do a great job in his stay with Dokken, and Jon Levin is doing a great job at recreating George's solos with the same tone and style George created them with.
I was there one night in PA. He's better than most people think. He played flawless it was so heavy. Don't forget heaviest rhythm section best drummer. It was a great show.
there is not a video of Lynch playing anywhere on youtube that sounds half that good... best version of Whitesnake, best version of Dokken. He had kickass solos in Winger. Dude is talented beyond belief. awesome live guitarist, who cares if he is a hired gun... the best live version of whatever band he has joined. Ritchy Kotzen also.
Hold on there, Reb is a great player, but the fact is he's an imitator, not an innovator.. That's why you don't see lynch, or Campbell playing his solos. I'll give you that Lynch isn't as good as he used to be, not sure why, but life has a way of kicking us in the nuts.. Both Reb, and Lynch are truly outstanding players, but in reality only one is the innovator.. Here's a clip of Lynch in his prime.. Back for the Attack IMHO was Lynch's last, best work... ruclips.net/video/qgzjtAo60ug/видео.html
Awesome!!! I never really gave too much attention to Reb, but I love George Lynch. Reb put his own seasoning on some of my favorite G.L. solo's, and it is beautiful!! NEW REB BEACH FAN!!
He already got so much undeserved hate for Winger, live him alone, he's an amazing guitarist. George is one of my favorite guitarists, but he's hit or miss, sometimes he sounded crappy live, he's messy. I think Reb is better live. He's more focused and tight. They're just different.
@@siotichiu9408 His studio performances are not messy. They are anything but messy. Live performances, you get guys who may be high or something else. The venues are often enormous open spaces with poor acoustics. And George seemed to play with way more effects in live situations. Too much. That muddles the sound and kills a lot of clarity. There is footage of him playing in a studio with the sound mixer in there with him. It is phenomenal playing and is not messy.
I love Reb's playing. I love George's playing. I enjoy music and to me it's not a contest so I can like both players and not feel obligated to choose who I think is better. Reb did a great job stepping into this spot.

The ones who slam Reb are obviously clueless and need to have their hearing checked. I think we can all agree that both players are phenomenal in their own right.
Me too! 2003ish I bought this DVD and was shocked not to see Lynch. But Reb blew me away! I quickly got into Winger and his other works! Top 5 player on my list.
@THRUTHESEEYES Agreed. In my opinion, Reb is one of those guys who can replace the greats of any hard rock band and also checking his CV: Winger, Alice Cooper, Night Ranger, Whitesnake, Dokken is a proof of how much talented he is and not to mention all the sessions he's done in numerous albums.
I saw an interview with Reb Beach recently (YT) and he was asked about his influences on the guitar. I was blown away when he did not mention Eddie Van Halen. Jeez, RB plays guitar and all I want to do is start looking up EVH videos!
People forget Reb can play fast as hell without all the tapping, even though he does that well. Always wanted to see the other Lynch solos he covered. Great clip.
I'm not a Dokken fan and I wouldn't have even discovered this video if it wasn't for Cracked, but this guy rocks, big time! I can barely make it through 6 minutes of wankery of the more "official" guitar heroes like Vai, Satriani and especially Malmsteen, but this was such an emotional and vivid display of shreddery that listening to it was pure joy.

I'd have to agree - he can't really shine like he's capable of in Whitesnake. I heard Coverdale say in an interview something to the effect that Aldrich is his "main" lead player, and almost sound like he kind of lets Reb come along for the ride. Kinda sad, really - band politics I suppose. But in some Reb interviews where he's talked about being in Whitesnake, he makes it sound like he's ok with his position in the band and just glad to have a gig to play. Still kinda sad...
