- Here's a little gem from Winger during the In the Heart of the Young tour. I believe this was shot in Detroit, Michigan in 1990. They do a pretty cool jam and Paul Taylor gets to do a little dual off with Reb Beach. It's too bad they didn't trade off a bit longer on this jam. I saw them a few nights after this was shot, and I think they had a longer dual off. The video then cuts into Reb Beach's guitar solo. Any Winger fans who've seen their live shows will hear some cool riffs that Reb pulls out of his bag of tricks.
Easily the most underrated guitarist of all time!
I was reading a Kip Winger quote claiming that Metallica could not play their shit if they tried. I see now what he was talking about.

Metallica is an amazing band, I've listened to them much more, and love them for what they are, but not a single member of Metallica could play or sing a single song from Winger. Lars is terrible and couldn't play the drums, Kirk could in no way play those solo's from Rebb, and James couldn't sing the vocals for shit. Cliff could definitely play the bass parts, but that's about it, and unfortunately he is no longer with us.

@@gregseverance1481 They have greats songs but Winger have them too, some of their glam songs are amazing but others from later albums where they went more prog aswell
when I think of winger's guitarists, it's always Reb Beach and the other guy. poor him, he was pretty amazing here :/

This was their best line up, saw them play at Aloha Tower on Oahu Hawaii, was a great show, will never forget it !

I was actually quite impressed with Paul's guitar skills. In all the Winger album credits, he's credited with rhythm guitar and keyboards only -- never any lead guitar. Based on this live performance, it made me wonder why he didn't get to flex his chops and play more lead guitar on the Winger albums, because he can definitely hold his own
Maybe that's why he quit?

Winger has had some pretty amazing other guitar players... Seen them with John and John was just amazing but Reb was fantastic too! Just overall talented band

This really shows how awesome these musicians are..Kip and Reb were both underrated..Kips writing skills are crazy good as well.. I think Reb once said in an interview that Kip wrote 4 songs in one night including "17" and "Hungry"..
If you're looking for a teacher to show you lead guitar, Reb Beach is your man.
I got a tapping lesson from him. He was doing a solo album and seminars. I got a chance to ask him about his way of tapping during an autograph session. He was very kind and made sure I understood what he was doing. He had no ego and he is very down to earth.

We all know Reb's great. But why was Paul not utilized more? He is great! I had no idea.
Not many people on earth would not be overshadowed by Reb.... he is a monster player. Him Vito, and Andy T. were so underrated in the late 80's, early 90's.

nicolas sosolic absolutely eddie is probably why reb and so many others bothered starting.....but i do think rebs songwriting with kip is timeless too....if you try the karma album or pull and their newest one....i think you will agree....some of that stuff will stand right up....theres more to these guys than they get credit for

@@derickarnold3301 when it comes to who can play the instruments better yes winger is actually a technically amazing band but I'd argue nirvana had some better song writing and was more compelling.

No doubt reb is killer!but Paul also was the secret weapon musically and visually..I think is about time to put some "show"back in their live performances.even Roth was looking very cool at "pull" tour..after all musically they have nothing to prove to anybody!!

The manufactured feud between Winger and Metallica has people comparing apples and oranges. Yes, Reb Beach is a more technically proficient guitarist than Kirk Hammett. But when you walk into Guitar Center, it aint Winger riffs you hear being played by every kid in the store. And it aint Winger songs being covered left and right by every RUclips musician.
That says it all. Everyone can play Metallica, because it's simple, no skills needed. Reb is 100 x more advanced. Kirk is a very weak guitarist.
@@andydina378 everyone plays matallica because they want to. The music is more accessible. Calling Kirk weak just makes you look envious.
Part of the reason you hear so much Metallica riffing is it's easy. Few guys have the chops to pull off Reb Beach stuff. Reb is many times the lead guitarist Kirk is. Take Kirk's wah from him and he would be in trouble.

Ha Reb played better back then vs today. Now his solos are basically just a bunch of noise.
