Unashamed Winger fan here. So severely and criminally underrated band full of top class musicians that smoked their contemporaries in chops and songwriting. Rick, i think Reb Beach deserves an interview too. What a riff lord.

@@stonewallmedia4314 if your ears were trained he would sound even better, cause he really is a fantastic guitarist and among the pioneers of his era! Rod is also a top notch player who was a regular clinician in top music schools all around the US, and you get ignorant people on here mentioning fun lyrics like 17 is a criteria to knock Winger as a band...that's how deep their ignorance goes! They feel the need for "deep" (more like pretentious) lyrics, and that would magically turn a s...t band they're probably listening to into a "High Art" band, even if none of the musicians can really play (think grunge and British Indie bands). Anyhow, for people who got ears Wingers first 3 albums are masterpieces. Saw Kip Winger play a room that was nearly empty years back and it was quite clear how talented he was, and it made me sad and angry that practically no one was there to witness it. His honesty and integrity are refreshing. Nothing but respect and admiration for the dude.
I saw Kip and Robbie here in Australia just as COVID was hitting. He was amazing and very humble. Was the same situation as you mentioned there would have been less than 30 people which is a shame, but Winger never broke in Australia. They were to tour here last year but cancelled, I reckon because of poor ticket sales but they said it was something else.
Saw him in OKC at a Borders Book Store where he put on a VERY small show for a handful of stunned onlookers. So damn refreshing, it was when he was promoting "This Conversation feels like a Dream". Down to earth real talk.
It's not that they don't know about music. They simply don't know about his work outside of Winger. Lady Gaga is also a genius, but you wouldn't know if you were just aware of her commercial hits.
She's only seventeen (seventeen) Daddy says she's too young, but she's old enough for me You don't need a PhD in composition to talk shit about Winger. Their music was clownish. That he's a respected composer now does not erase Winger. I respect him more now after this interview.
Finally Kip will have some heavy well deserved recognition amongst the music community. The guy is absolutely a monster musician/ songrwriter/ composer
Yeah I was shocked at how many views this had so had to watch it. Anyone into hard rock music should give Winger a try. I actually convinced a friend of mine to go see a Winger show years ago even though he really only likes Punk music. I told him at the very least you'll be amazed by their guitarist shredding the entire show. He was glad he went needless to say!
Back in the day when Winger was “Headed for a Heartbreak” and everybody clowned them saying they were a joke, I liked them and still do! There was something to them as a band that made them unique and I think that’s why ppl didn’t like them bc they were different than most other 80s rock bands and in the end they all suffered the same fate when grunge came on the scene, but through it all Winger has remained relevant and even more popular now than ever before. I’m still listening to “Pull” to this day. Literally, it’s in my car’s CD player right now!
The funny thing about clowning Winger, is how many of those guys who clowned Winger still listened to other 80s cheese butt rock (not that there is anything wrong with that).
Pull is one of my all time favorites albums. I listen to classic rock, 80s, death, black, and thrash metal, punk, some pop, synthwave, classic country, and more, and Winger has always been a huge favorite of mine. Fuck all the too cool for school losers, they're excellent musicians, and very nice guys as well.
Same here - I still listen to the WINGER tunes all the time. For me, peak “musicians” metal with all the cool runs, displacements, cool chords, shredding, insane vocals. I wonder all the time what the 90s would have been like with no grunge, complete style change in rock.
@@GeoffGillDrums I think it freed them up from the constraints of record label pressures, sales demands, trend chasing, etc. and let them just be creative. Pull was such a great record, and I think it was for the same reason they named it "Pull," because they said nobody would buy it so they might as well use them as shotgun clays. It sucks that it took a lot of success from talented guys, but the changing landscape popped a bit of the bubble that had grown up from the labels' trend chasing habits.
Agree! I was a Winger fan as a teen, always liked them far more than most other 80s pop rock bands because of the changes, melodies, and insanely great musicianship. "Pull" is a sleeper, for sure.
Kip Winger's mom was my 4th grade teacher. Him and his brother use to come in a play for us in the classroom. Really cool! His mom would always say that her Kippy was going to be big some day!
Seeing Kip live acoustic is otherworldly. It's unimaginable that he produces as much sound as he does by himself (12 string and a 1 in a zillion voice).
Saw a guitar clinic by Reb Beach, was a year or two back. And he had some tracks of Winger songs he plays to for his clinics, that for whatever reason he needed to rerecord them. He told story about how how he sent 2-3 of them to Kip, asking him to lay down a new vocal performance of the old song. Reb said like 10 mins later, he got a reply. They were done, pitch perfect, and Reb said they actually sound _better_ than the original album. Gotta love it.
@@adrianmarsglam I know, dude 👍🏻 Same here, man… I recently just got into winger probably about last two months.. I know I’m a late bloomer on this but man, I was blown away with the tracks they did and how detailed the music was
This is why Rick is the man. He knows who the real musicians and producers are. Not just what the public thinks they know, or the flavor of the week. What an amazing interview.
I talked to Kip on the phone when I was working for an insurance company in the 90's. He was in New Mexico and was so cool. I told him I was keyboard player and spoke to me like an equal. We talked music for almost an hour. He autographed one of the CD's he referred to in this video and sent it to me. Great guy.
Kip used to give lectures at the Contemporary Music Program at The College of Santa Fe. His percussionist is a talented Santa Fean. Marty Schwartz also came out of that program. I think Kip was living in Santa Fe back than.
I met Kip in 1997 and he asked me to come up to his studio outside of Santa Fe NM. Ended up playing percussion on some trax that would become "This Conversation Seems Like A Dream" Man!!!Kip's song's blew me away and I got a serious dose of how heavy a musician he truly is. He's also very down to earth, with an intensely dry sense of humor. He tours with an incredible percussionist from Santa Fe now, Robby Rothchild as a duo. Thank you for bringing him in Rick! Awesome interview!
Hey Mark! One of your old students here! David Fawcett. I hope you are doing well. I still take you teachings into account almost everyday. You taught me a lot and you were honestly a big reason for me sticking it out and graduating from CSF. Thank You.
Thank you So much Rick.... For giving Kip this opportunity to reach others. I've been following Kip since the first Winger album. His classical compositions and solo works are brilliant. I'm so happy to see others feel like I do about his music. THANK You for giving this interview.
This Kip Winger interview belongs on your main channel and should be twice as long! Kip is incredibly talented, humble, funny....the guy is fascinating! What an amazing musician!! I think this is one of your best interviews!
Thank you so much for this interview Rick, I am a really huge Kip Winger fan and had the lucky to see him live here in my city, Belo Horizonte in Brazil, in 2012!
I really enjoy this interview because it’s not talking about winger for at least the first 20 minutes of the interview. I am so encouraged and impacted by kips life as a musician. I’m 52 years old and because of this interview, it just expanded my horizons that there’s so much more to encounter so much more to do so much more to create it’s infinite!
Kip played a small 100 seat theater about 7 years ago where I worked as the sound guy, he was one of the coolest artists I ever worked with. Really enjoyed meeting him and hearing his 12 string set of Rock covers.
32:00. In and he says it all. “ find a mentor that kicks your ass” ALWAYS be the student is how you succeed. Never stop learning. The best advice you can ever get. The reason why so many suck today. They think their shit doesn’t stink. This guy is a true hero for ANY musician. 🙏🏻
Loved Winger back in the day. So much technical musicianship, massive cut above the cookie cutter hair bands. The lyrics were bad though, and we used to endlessly lampoon Kip “not playing the bass” in the Seventeen video 😅. It was hilarious to see that interview with Kip from back in the 80s where he actually commented on that and reassured his fans that he does actually play the bass in concert.
I liked some of wingers songs that came on MTV back in the 80's but wasn't a big fan. Never listened to them beyond that. Then last year some of their songs from their new album popped up on RUclips and they sounded pretty damn good. So I ended up buying the album and every song on that album is really good.
The one thing about most bands back then - including Winger - is that the record labels wanted the style to be released as singles, which is exactly what happened. Those songs were very pop and cheesy, which is what they wanted. But the songs that were NOT released as singles were where the substance and musical talent showed. For example, every song that was NOT released as a single from Winger's second album (In the Heart of the Young) was phenomenal and spotlighted their songwriting and playing ability. I've been having a listen back through that catalog and still am amazed by how substantive those album tracks are.
I’ve always thought Kip got negative feedback from a lot of people purely out of jealousy because of the success he had when Winger first started and his looks. He’s an extremely talented musician and the material they put out was very melodic and memorable. Glad to see you have him on the channel.
Thanks Rick...for interviewing somebody who I believe is one of the great song writers of the last 40 years. Whether it's his rock stuff, or solo material or his classical composing the man never disappoints (and having met him on his acoustic tour a few years back he's also a fantastically friendly and down to earth bloke).
I love it when there's an artist who hardly gets more mention than and then you discover there's a universe more depth to them than one could have ever imagined.
I played in a cover band for a corporate bar circuit in the mid-2000s. We were playing in Pittsburgh, and Kip was playing a solo acoustic show in the middle of the street festival. Big stage, PA, lights, etc. He was AMAZING, and I felt horrible that there was a very small amount of people paying attention. I saw him in the hotel elevator after his show and told him how amazing he was. We chatted for a bit, and then I invited him to my gig. During our first break, I see him hanging outside on the patio area, just taking it all in. I went up and talked for a few with him again and invited him up to play, but he respectfully declined. After this interview, I have a much better understanding of him, and my already genuine respect is now through the roof. Thank you for showing us a side of him and a better understanding of his musical career, Rick. Cheers
@MikeDavis-be8gf Not so much declined as I think it was disappointment that people would show up to a packed house with a band playing The Joker and Brown Eyed Girl than go see him outside in amazing weather earlier. He was very nice about it though. I think getting hit on by a very drunk woman didn't help the situation either. Lol!
57 here big metal guy as well but I got into them after buying the first cd while in Hawaii and got to see them live at aloha Tower and was one of the best sounding bands live. Pull their 3rd album is great and there first one is phenomenal like all the rest the entire band are great musicians, and reb beach is a beast of course was also in White Snake ect... The spell I am under is of the pull album and pull up on RUclips put on headphones hope you have a good set a just sit back and enjoy, if you go huh don't get well then there is that.
Kip is such a deep, talented and passionate human/musician, it’s so criminal how underrated he is. Thank you Rick for hosting such a great and thoughtful interview and thank you Kip for being so honest and open. I had the chance to meet Kip at one of his acoustic shows back in 2019 and it absolutely blew me away, totally opening a whole new world/perspective on his playing.
Used to work at a club in Madison, WI as a sound guy back in the late ‘90s/ early 2000s. Kip came through to do a solo show. Blew me away. Somebody in the crowd kept yelling “play 17”. He said “ I’m in my 40s and she’s in her 30s so I’m not going to play that tune” . Respect!
I'm stunned, I didn't know who this guy was, what a voice, that playing, adversity over tragedy, I loved the Nuno vids but this is an another level..I'm going to check this guy out..thank you,,and I did....Stunned, and inspired....
Man…I was climbing the ladder at FedEx in the 90s, Pittsburgh. Early morning I come in and ask the opener about some flyers on the counter for Kip Winger, solo show. I believe he was at Station Square on the South Side. I laughed and made some remarks, back to the door, “This band absolutely sucked.”, was my final summation. Looking up I noticed the opener gesturing with a nod and wide eyes to the door, I just sighed…and knew. Turned, “Winger, Kip…I have a print job to pick up”, slight smirk on his face. To his credit he checked them out, paid and never said a word, but it hung there between us like a cloud ready to rain down deserved hell upon me. Years later my wife and I would catch an acoustic show in Pittsburgh and laughed about my misstep. Show was great. “He’s still hot…and you’re an idiot”, was my wife’s response. We’ve been fans ever since. To be clear, Kip Winger does absolutely not suck…and in that moment I was an absolute idiot. Great interview, well done Mr Winger, you are an amazingly talented artist. 🙏
If you told me that in 2024, i'd be listening to a video of Kip Winger playing the guitar in a way that really resonates with me, i'd think you were playing a practical joke on me. But man, seeing this side of Kip... and hearing this music is incredible. And i had no idea he still had this kind of singing ability in him. Truly amazing. I'm following on Spotify!
Back in the 90's I bounced a Winger concert at the Fox Theater in Pueblo Colorado. My favorite part of the show was Kip sitting down on the end of the stage and playing his acoustic guitar all by him self. It was awesome and the first time I knew that he was a truly amazing guitarist/musician. Good memory for sure.
This deserves to be on channel #1. I don't even know who this guy is, but I'm a musician and I know brilliance when I hear it. Hide this guy's soul and music from the plagiarism machines (AI), this is authentic music and what it's all about.
I'm calling this the long overdue interview. Now many more people will understand that Kip is so much more than just the bassist and singer for Winger.
it’s just he’s super busy after u hear all the stuff he’s doing and think of the crazy amt of music flowing in his brain. It’s apparent after this interview how much Reb makes what Winger is… all his riffs/solos inspires Kip to create a whole sound.
Winger never gets enough credit. Pull is an absolute masterpiece. Had it come out 18 months sooner it would have been multiplatinum. Seven is just as good coming out just last year. Absolutely a monster record. Solo work is incredible. Every member of the band is an absolute master of their instruments and they can all sing as well. People that say they suck simply hasn't ever listened to them.
When Winger hit with "Madalaine" , the video started inside the guitar. Yes they came in on the end of "hair metal" but the concept of that video , in a way, showed their depth. And you are right about PULL. I loved every track. Down in Cognito is such a cool song.
I just watched Winger in London yesterday, and I have to say, it was one of the best performances I've ever seen live. All the guys are exceptionally talented individually, and they play together for so long that it's a very well oiled machine as a group too. As songwriters they were always ahead their time, having some of the best melodies ever written, combined with some unique rhythms that flirt with progressive rock while still keeping very musical, something that only some bands like Rush, Yes and Queen are able to do. Winger is one of the best bands of my generation, and Kip is not only a marvelous singer and player, but also an amazing composer for so many different genres of music. Thank you for this interview, Beato, intelligent discussions are rare nowadays and we need to praise those that give us such content on RUclips.
Always a winger fan and knew Kip had many other facets to his musical career, but the fact he lost his wife and early career and had the strength to carry on and change direction shows immense strength.Geeat interview
This video is one of your very best and provides a life lesson for all of us. When I first saw the title, I ignored it for two weeks. I thought to myself, why am I seeing a Kip Winger interview from the guy who brought us Pat Metheny, Brad Mehldau, Brian May, Andy Summers, etc... No wonder it's on your secondary channel. I immediately pictured Beavis & Butthead, the big hair, the video of "Seventeen" with them prancing around with their chests exposed (I was studying music in college during the late 80s.). Within 30 seconds of the video, my mind was blown hearing Kip play 12-string guitar and sing while performing an original song. Having played classical, acoustic and electric guitar for nearly half a century, I felt incredibly ashamed to dismiss this colossal talent. Not only is his musicianship light years beyond my own, he comes off as an extremely humble and nice guy. Even as recently as the past year or two, there have been others posting disparaging RUclips videos with little actual research. Thank you, Rick, for helping set the record straight!
I've always had massive respect for Kip because he seemed like such a polished musician who stood out against the masses of hair metal bands, along with his bandmates in Winger like Reb, too. I had no idea he was into and composed classical music until now. My respect only grows!
Jesus H Christ!!!!! His acoustical songs hit the soul hard. It's a crime I have not heard any of his solo music. This should be a theme for some soundtrack for some badass movie. 🤘😎🤘 Thank you Rick beato for this interview
I wasn’t a huge fan of Winger back in the day, but went to the show just to go to a show. One of the best shows I’ve been to. Not a crazy stage show and no pyrotechnics like a lot of the bands back then, but good grief they were great musicians.
You just introduced me to a musician who correlates with who I'm am in life. Thank you. There's something to be said about a man, his journey to squash his demons, because he knows that is how he will be his best self. A never ending blah, that music shows us she's always around.
Saw Kip with Winger at Sweden Rock Festival just yesterday, and managed to talk to him afterwards. Very humble and friendly. And a great artist and songwriter.
HUGE Winger Fan and Kip fan...Anyone who actually listened to Wingers music instantly knew this was not Average music...Everyone in that band was playing at a level WAY above alot of other bands...Cant say enough about about Reb and the instant impact he had with his guitar technique ...Kip was next level with his Singing and song writing.... Then to hear his solo stuff and then hear his Classical stuff !!! A TRUE musician on every level!!!! Great interview!!!!
I had no idea of the depth and complexity of Kip Winger. I am truly grateful I clicked on this video. I grew up in the MTV era and was in high school when grunge/alternative gained steam. I discarded bands such as Winger. I am certainly disappointed in myself now. I have an abundance of respect for this great musician and I will definitely be following his work going forward. Thank you, Rick for opening my eyes. Thank you, Kip for being authentic
If you like hard rock and/or great singing and guitar playing, there's a real treasure trove of awesome music to be found in the 80's hair metal scene. You're in for a treat if you explore it without prejudice.
@@neptuneskleinberg oh dude… I recently got hooked on Winger because I knew from the get-go that they put a lot of detail into writing their music… and I mean a lot.. I play drums and I love odd time signature music.. and when I heard some of the pieces in their older albums, I was just blow away. I knew the musicians were phenomenal and very talented right off the bat just by hearing the detail written in the songs.
Well, I gotta say, it's about time. Kip is easily one of the most under rated, under appreciated musicians in the world. Huge fan. Thanks for finally getting him on here, Rick!
Winger, that band is the best band I have sought for 35 years. There are many musicians who continue to make cool music, they are all wonderful, and I have found in my 35 years that they are the best band I have ever seen, as I couldn't decide which band I liked the best! They continue to evolve!

Was very excited to see this interview with Kip. Big fan of his solo work and especially the later winger albums. Winger recent albums are very good... Please check them out. Rick thank you so much for having him on!
I’ve been a fan since the debut Winger album. Proud to have stood by him and the group through all the nonsense in the 90s. A lesser man would have cowered in the face of adversity. Instead, Kip picked himself up and became a better person and musician. He’s had top 40 hits, he’s a Grammy nominated composer and his solo work - be it his albums or solo concerts with the 12 string - is amazing. And the newer Winger material - from IV on - is excellent. On top of it all, he is true student of music. And Headed For A Heartbreak - 35+ years later - still sounds fresh and distinctive. An interview like this is long overdue. Just wish it was longer….
Being 61, I was a big Winger fan in the 80's and 90's and loved them. Also have loved Kip's solo stuff and have most of his solo albums. Pure class musician/instrumentalists from the beginning. Lookin good Kip! Sounding excellent for 62!
Finally someone does Kip Winger justice in an interview. Well done Rick!

He is for sure !
That's a cool story. He seems like a bright guy
Never clicked on a video so fast. Kip is a genius. Always liked his stuff in Winger
I clicked out of curiosity because if Rick chose him forcN interview then I must be missing something. Sure enough!
His solo stuff is next level to Winger, check it out
Same!
Respect brother reb and kip and the boys from winger kick ass humble as fuck ❤
@@adrianmarsglam I know, dude 👍🏻 Same here, man… I recently just got into winger probably about last two months.. I know I’m a late bloomer on this but man, I was blown away with the tracks they did and how detailed the music was
I don’t believe Kip or his band never got the recognition they should have gotten. He is amazing!!
Fan recognition is all they need. Industry heads never care about the people nor medium they claimed to support.
Proof that Rick doesn't pay attention to which way the wind is blowing. Nothing just for clicks.
Integrity looks especially good to me these days.
That. Was. Awesome! I never got into the metal bands and def didn't get into Winger, but this stuff? Wow!
Fabulous comment.
Well said.
Imagine a new generation for whom integrity matters more than the smoke and mirrors of social media. Man, that does look good.
I think he does pay attention. He just doesn't allow it to influence him or what he likes/does.
Allowing someone to be who they are NOW rather than who they were perceived to be, in the public eye, is a pretty wonderful gift.
Your comment should be pinned to the top.
💯 correct on that!...
What was he perceived as? Genuinely asking
Never a truer statement, especially today!
This is why Rick is the man. He knows who the real musicians and producers are. Not just what the public thinks they know, or the flavor of the week. What an amazing interview.
All Lars’s fault! The crappiest drummer in rock.
@@GunnerCustomGuitars 😂
I talked to Kip on the phone when I was working for an insurance company in the 90's. He was in New Mexico and was so cool. I told him I was keyboard player and spoke to me like an equal. We talked music for almost an hour. He autographed one of the CD's he referred to in this video and sent it to me. Great guy.
Kip used to give lectures at the Contemporary Music Program at The College of Santa Fe. His percussionist is a talented Santa Fean. Marty Schwartz also came out of that program. I think Kip was living in Santa Fe back than.
Wow, that is so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Winger - Seven, was my favorite release from 2023. Absolutely monster of an album.
Learning that Kip Winger was a ballet dancer is both 🤯 and not surprising at the same time. He is so multi dimensional his talent knows no bounds.
@@markclarkdrummernewmexico9030 that must have been fun!
Hey Mark! Hope all is well!
What I'll say about Kip Winger is "I never knew". Thank you to Rick Beato for making sure more of us know.
EXACTLY what you’ve said here on this video. And most definitely Thank You Rick for putting us all in the know about Kip, WOW!!
It's so great to learn about a classical and multi-genre musician I'd never known about!
Kip is a true renaissance man. If you have an open mind and ears, the world becomes a better place.
Great term renaissance man, love it.
Very well said. 👍
This Kip Winger interview belongs on your main channel and should be twice as long! Kip is incredibly talented, humble, funny....the guy is fascinating! What an amazing musician!! I think this is one of your best interviews!

Kips solo records are a great way to understand his music and life 🙌 ❤️
Thank you so much for this interview Rick, I am a really huge Kip Winger fan and had the lucky to see him live here in my city, Belo Horizonte in Brazil, in 2012!
Nice! thank you!
Kip played a small 100 seat theater about 7 years ago where I worked as the sound guy, he was one of the coolest artists I ever worked with. Really enjoyed meeting him and hearing his 12 string set of Rock covers.
All these years, Kip Winger does not disappoint
WHAT AN EPIC sounding 12 String !!! Kip is the man !!! ❤
Incredible performance
32:00. In and he says it all. “ find a mentor that kicks your ass” ALWAYS be the student is how you succeed. Never stop learning. The best advice you can ever get. The reason why so many suck today. They think their shit doesn’t stink. This guy is a true hero for ANY musician. 🙏🏻
Excellent interview! Kip is still a handsome man and it's a pleasure to hear him play! 🔥❤
Saw Kip at a festival a few years back. Came out with a stool, sat down by himself and mesmerized everyone with his 12 string. I was left in awe.
Such a talented musician
That last song could be a new Styx song… really great
@@delphinazizumbo8674 he's pretty funny as well, he changed the lyrics to "she's only 42?" We were all dieing
I also seen him live at a festival in enfield ct where I’m from . He did some amazing acoustic playing and some winger band songs very awesome .
So sorry Kip. Was not a fan back in the day. But I am now. You have my total respect!
Same here! Didn’t care for Winger and for what I call his “pop” music, but his solo music is fantastic!
Yeah, I'm sorry too.
But came around.
Respect, Kip.
Denver Colorado loves Kip Winger!
Cheers
He declined your invitation lol
@MikeDavis-be8gf Not so much declined as I think it was disappointment that people would show up to a packed house with a band playing The Joker and Brown Eyed Girl than go see him outside in amazing weather earlier. He was very nice about it though. I think getting hit on by a very drunk woman didn't help the situation either. Lol!
I'm 55, big 80s and 90s metal fan; i never listened winger. I'm very happy that this is my first impression of Kip - because he's astonishing.
Respect!
lol, I saw a video where he was playing the song. I think he joked his way through it..
He has acknowledged that that song did not age well and I've heard that when he performs it with Winger he sings, "She's only 43..."
Rick....Play 17!
No...

Kip Winger I saw him in concert so many times in the late 80's and early 90's. He is so great and so many people don't know him.
Oh man that’s quite the anecdote LOL
Winger sucked? You obviously had a music IQ hovering around 50..
Thank you!
I've never heard Kip in an interview before. What a classy guy. Love the Winger albums. He's very down to earth. I love that. Mad respect!
Oh man, what a great guy and a serious musician - Always was and will be a KW Fan - simply flashed. Big thx to u Rick for bringing him in!
Love that, wouldn’t have expected that from Kip 😮😮😮😮
Kip is the friendliest person and down to earth as they come. A truly beautifully talented artist.
Kip’s a good dude… Super talented… A survivor and an inspiration… Good for him… Thanks for having him on your show… You rule Rick!
So criminally underrated. I went to one of his acoustic shows about five years ago and it was seriously one of the best shows I’ve ever seen or heard.
The first song I heard of Winger was "Headed for a Heart Break". I've been hooked since. Thanks for the great music sir!
I wasn’t a huge fan of Winger back in the day, but went to the show just to go to a show. One of the best shows I’ve been to. Not a crazy stage show and no pyrotechnics like a lot of the bands back then, but good grief they were great musicians.
I had a similar experience at an STP concert on their tour for their second album.
Sometimes simple is better. I always liked Winger and when I saw him live, best acoustic show to date.
Underrated doesn't even begin to describe the musical genius that Kip is. One in a million!!!
That's what I like about Winger. He keeps going. He cant get enough of the music and is still hungry. Well done Rick.

A lot of solid rock albums were released during that time period that most people missed. Great thing is, we can always go back and listen to them.
If you like hard rock and/or great singing and guitar playing, there's a real treasure trove of awesome music to be found in the 80's hair metal scene. You're in for a treat if you explore it without prejudice.
Winger were really proggy at times with loads of incredible musicianship, but were probably overlooked based on their image.
Make sure to check out Winger's album Pull. Such a masterpiece.
@@neptuneskleinberg oh dude… I recently got hooked on Winger because I knew from the get-go that they put a lot of detail into writing their music… and I mean a lot.. Was very excited to see this interview with Kip. Big fan of his solo work and especially the later winger albums. Winger recent albums are very good... Please check them out. Rick thank you so much for having him on!
Headed for a Heartbreak.. one of my fav songs of all time.
That opening performance blew me away! Incredible!
