@Iamb tanning is also bad for your skin. But that wasn't the conversation 🙄. Go ahead and bleach your skin and take a chance on having a rebound effect. A Hydroquinone-induced inflammation can cause rebound hyperpigmentation and reduced tolerance to hydroquinone itself.

We have to go deeper into the root and source of this. It has been embedded into us to have white skin and have straight hair . This is not only a African problem, it is in the Caribbean and Asian countries. The Europeans have damaged people of race so much and it is such a same because the people who are lightening their skin are highly educated people and should or would know where this attitude is coming from. It makes me really think, that black people, some black people , do not like being black or like black people. God help us all.
In Asia , lighter skin is related to being from a wealthier background as people who don't have to toil under the sun tend to have lighter skin tones. So this s a complex issue that has to do w social hierarchy/classes ,perceived beauty standards and colonialism as well. And let's not forget that the pressure is esp. high on women to look a certain way in all cultures which is really bad tbh. As for bleaching , people who live closer to the equator do have more melanin in order to protect from the sun so reducing melanin +ruining skin barrier is extra harmful in that case. Colourism is extra dangerous ,no doubt about it
Actually the Japanese lightened their skin before Europeans came to Japan. The Geisha made herself look white, so they were already conditioned to think that white was superior by the time the Europeans arrived. Also skin brighteners work different on light skinned people. It helps achieve a more even skin tone. You read complaints from dark skinned people that milder treatments like kojic acid don’t lighten their skin. It’s not going to! It is however great for getting a more even skin tone.
Some west African tribes like us Igbos naturally have genes that have been identified that allows for more lighter skin, light eyed, light haired ppl. We have a higher amount than some other tribes. I say this because people do not understand African genetics and have learned to generalize Africans as though we are a monolith.
Nigerian women bleach very well and they created own method. No damages , just glowing, lightening i wish I get my skin pale porcelain (5 shades lighter actually). Their skin is much brighter than any other African because they have their own method for exfoliating, brightening, they using beauty supplements , glutathione injections and hydratation. I am not shocked about this report because i am using myself skin bleaching products their method is totally different in comparison with Senegalese or Egyptian. Indian and Thai also have their own method for bleach and i am using their products.
All over the world people are bleaching their skin. Asians and Arabs alike. African Americans too! It will take a long time for people to accept who they are. This in my opinion is due to old movies where actors where super white with blonde hair (some repeatedly bleached). This influenced Asian movies, as they wanted to look more of white, now with fake hair and bleaching African Americans and Africans want to achieve the Asian movie star look. Yes , we look up to African Americans who started to look fairer, fake eyelashes, weaves, smoothed edges, drawn in eyebrow shape, nose jobs etc. Now everyone can buy the look. We have seen African Americans change from Africa features Asian or more European like features. I don't have to mention names!
I recently left Cameroon I’m from the USA and most black Americans like myself despite bleaching It seems like damn near every product in the stores had whitening
I’m African America and I’ve never seen bleaching agents in Walmart. I’m dark skinned and I was teased and put down but I never wanted to bleach. It looks awful look at Lil Kim.
Please in the next episode talk about people who go to spas and soak themselves in a bath mixed with different chemicals, that’ll enable the aesthetician peel off layers of their skin and immediately make them 2 or 3 shades lighter.
Correction ^*** Dark-skin is most appropriated in African countries. Here in america its different. Most men prefer lightskin women. If you put a beautiful attractive black woman and on the side a lady who is just pretty but very light skin . The men here will go for the light skin girl .
That's a damn shame. A lot of people especially being black don't care about your complexion. Glad to hear that
Julie is a gorgeous, gorgeous girl. Wow! I would kill for such beautiful velvet skin. Nice to hear she hasn’t succumbed to the pressures to bleach, it must not be easy. Excellent series!
I have what is perhaps a naïve question: why is this even a topic whenIn October 2019, Nigeria became the number one open defecation nation ... 25 per cent, or more than 47 million Nigerians, lack access to toilets? The obsession with having a light skin surely cannot be As important as the lack of toilets. I don't mean to be facetious here.
Does the effects of the cream wear off when you stop using it
As long as MANY of us disdain our dark skin, tightly coiled hair, & full features, we will remain saddled with self inflicted disadvantages!!!!!
Life is too short to hate yourself. But at the end of the day we all need grace from God to not hate ourselves.
While watching Nigerian idols, I couldn't help but notice so many commercials for skin bleaching 😳. Guys, snow white and skin glow, I'm not sure about the names. Ya'll need to get rid of that, we can't be having our kids consume such and grow up thinking that there is something wrong with their skin. Please.
Not just that. I have noticed that in nollywood movies, the actresses are starting to look all the same, with the same bleached colour, the photos they use (like a thumbnail picture on RUclips) they would make the dark skin actress 10 shades lighter and then you watch the movie, they are way darker. They did this Mercy Johnson multiple times.
@@Lovelesslouvre very true! Even Mercy and Ini that are charcoal black all bleached their skin to an extent now.
Horrible!!
@@gracegeorge7285 yesss I noticed that… I was honestly disappointed when I saw they had bleached their skin especially since there are soo many young girls and women who grew up watching them. Why are they promoting skin colour that is very rare to find in Nigeria?? It’s gross

I use hydroquinone on my melasma on my cheeks but even then, my dermatologist advised me that it is not for long term use. It damages your skin. It makes me sad that my sisters feel the need to lighten their beautiful brown skin.
Why it so sad tanning should be sad too there changing there skin too stop making me feel like I’m a bad person for bleaching my skin it not a taboo
@@Nikki-zg5sx I don’t use hydroquinone I use glutathione safest way
@Iamb I'm not familiar with that product, but I'm glad you're thinking of your overall health. Knowledge is key.

Skin lighting or skin toning is not a bad thing as long as your using products that are safe for your skin, I use skin lighting products because I like toning my skin and making my melanin glow, i would not say I hate myself or hate being a black woman it’s just something that I do as my own beauty regime, not all People who skin lighten hate their skin. This is also with people that use tanning and tanning creams to darken their skin, they do it because they like it and how they look, nothing wrong with darkening or lightening your skin, we are all beautiful regardless of skin colour. ❤️
Look at people finding excuses.
It is a bad thing! Not healthy at all. Getting rid of uneven skin tone is completely different from changing your skin tone drom darker skinned person that literally a grey person.
Skin lightening, skin toning whatever terms you wanna use are bad
@@RosetteAckesson skin lighting skin toning skin darkening is an individual CHOICE same way people go and do plastic surgery, these are things people love and do, what you call bad is good to another person, there are far more problems in the world to deal with than worry about what someone chooses to do with their own skin, how about campaign on wickedness and ignorance of the world, let people do as they wish and mind your business. I can relate to this 💯 and there are amazing safe products out there that can do that, I would definitely recommend seeing a dermatologist. Thanks for watching
@@LolaOJTV the reason people walk into any local cosmetic stores to get this creams. How do we get a good dermatologist (because a lot of this guys claiming woke on skin healthcare don’t even know shit) that’s on one side, how do we afford them! That’s on another side. We all know how hard things are in this part of the world currently. Like I’m happy i could afford 3square meal at least, afford to move myself around, pay my rent, pay bills of some very basic needs as a human being. Come on Lola seeking a dermatologist isn’t what I’ll be thinking of as a common man, knowing that that it doesn’t come cheap. So best I can do is seek out from friends for recommendations or walk into this cheap cosmetic stores to find out. So the cycle of trial and error continue. Things are hard Lola they are.
@@ENOSCORNER I do understand what you’re saying but don’t be deceived some local creams aren’t necessarily cheaper. Yes the country is hard I agree, so do what you can, nothing is by force, there are good affordable options. However if you have a severe skin issue you need to see a professional in the same way you would need to see a Dr if sick.

I have hyperpigmentation on my face and I’ve been trying to get rid of it for years. In U.K. there’s a multi million pound business to lie to ppl like me. I’m very light skin toned however my medical problem has cost me over 4/5 thousand pounds. These companies make dark ppl feel inferior and light skinned people who have skin issues feel inferior because it looks awful. Doesn’t matter what I can’t get rid of my hyperpigmentation ☹️. This is truly where I can say we’re all in this together 😟
Thank you for your comment, I actually have melasma so I understand your frustration, here in Nigeria I believe the dermatologists have more knowledge on what works for black skin
I have friends that are deeper brown that have used bleaching creams+ steroids for many years ie carowhite soap+ carowhite cream+ carowhite oil+fashion fair tube and they still have the same skin tone. When I asked why they were using all that they said so their skin glows!
Would you not classify that as bleaching? Or just because you can't see the actual bleaching effect it would nt be considered bleaching?
It is argued that 'toning' is just a mild form of bleaching, since often the same harmful products are used just that the level of the 'whitening' is less.
Really enjoyed this, so informative!

I have never had an issue with being dark skin nor have I missed opportunities because of my skin tone. If you are confident you are treated as such. If you feel inferior you will be treated in inferior ways. So I don't get why people bleach their skin. That is a new thing that I NEVER HEARD OF OR SAW GROWING UP. - I'm from the South- Louisiana and I can not relate.
OMG, me coming across this doc now, pls LOLA OJ, have you ever been to Kano Northern Nigeria, where mothers have died over the issues of bleaching there fetus before the arrive this planet. It is a serious problem that our doctors don't even know how to go about dealing with it

I came across this article a few days ago and it was during a time I was doing an article of the beauty of African Black Women. Down here is Zimbabwe we had been safe from skin bleaching until a few years ago where skin bleaching products have illegally found themselves in our country and our women prefer to lighten their skin. I actually feel very sorry for the women out there who feel they need to bleach their skin to look beautiful..... It is reealy reealy sad and i believe it has gotten to a point its a psychological issue that need adressing seriously

I agree!
Typo error ***** do not like being of dark skin or dislike black people ****
In Asia , lighter skin is related to being from a wealthier background as people who don't have to toil under the sun tend to have lighter skin tones. Colourism is extra dangerous ,no doubt about it
You will never have white skin or straight hair. Stop blaming white people for everything and be happy with the skin your in.
Why don’t they promote Shea butter and cocoa butter?
Some west African tribes like us Igbos naturally have genes that have been identified that allows for more lighter skin, light eyed, light haired ppl. We have a higher amount than some other tribes. I say this because people do not understand African genetics and have learned to generalize Africans as though we are a monolith.
Exactly

I'm light skin and I absolutely LOVE dark skin ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I just don't understand this🥺
I swear there’s beauty in every shade!
I see why people would stop me on the Street and beg me to maintain My skin color.
Dey need to figure out the dark lips, knuckles, knees and elbow. 😂 Low self estime is real.
I don't have to mention names!
are you an African American?
Job good, Lola!
Thanks so much, episode 2 out this week x
@ 16:40 she's saying all the right things :))
I recently left Cameroon
I’m from the USA and most black Americans like myself despite bleaching
It seems like damn near every product in the stores had whitening
As much as there is a colorism problem in America, you rarely see or hear of African Americans bleaching. The majority of AAs embrace their dark skin.
Unfortunately I shot this before that video went viral. However will be discussing it on Instagram live this week 🙏🏾
But because the African woman or people embrace self hatred, they would in my opinion be a discrase to their race . I've seen some beautiful young woman on memor and I'm glad they didn't change their skin tone. Love you black woman!!
