"Why is everyone pretending this is fine? I don't want to do the next stage of my life right now" I felt this so much. I've just finished Year 12, and am not planning on going to University. I am scared of and sad about growing up, despite logically knowing everything will be "fine"
Thank you for speaking about this, it needs to be normalized. You're not alone in what you're feeling

I feel your going the motions of loss, on many levels. But time is a healer. As one step of your life closes so does another one open. Let yourself feel this loss, then embrace the next chapter. New people, new experiences new adventures. I'm old now, but I see life as a book, and yours Jade has only just started. Enjoy the ride ❤

I graduated high school last year and didn’t want to go to uni. It was the most horrifying feeling ever because I knew I wouldn’t have something to ‘fill’ in all the free time I’d have like university would. But nonetheless university isn’t something I’ve ever planned on doing. Seven months later I’m working in a restaurant, still hanging out with hs friends and saving money to hopefully travel out of state. It’ll turn out fine in the end. The next stage is a scary prospect but once you get there it’s just like every other stage 😂 Just go with the flow. Life is one big improv performance

When I graduated my undergrad I found it easier to say goodbye by being excited about the next step, learning more in my masters things i couldn’t learn at my undergrad uni. I feel fortunate we manage coming together with my 7 person friend group once or twice a year for the 5 years since I graduated. Still can’t believe it has been 5 years!

Its good that you’re mirroring your thoughts with your own words, then validating them, and then empathising with them as if you were a second self talking to your suffering self. Thats how you become secure and happy.

I've graduated this year and I'm a bit frustrated that I can't relate to your emotions, even if they include sadness. My degree has been impacted by social anxiety, and then by covid... I feel like I didn't meet anyone and that I missed a big part of my 20s. I hope it can be a reminder for you that all the sadness and melancholy you are feeling are just reminders of your growth, happiness, fulfilment during these last few years ❤️

Hi Jade - I love how vulnerable you allowed yourself to be in this video and how you said out loud what probably a LOT of people are thinking. I'm 35 and I have friends all over the world and I have to say that is one of the biggest and most amazing things because you can go and visit them and spend time in so many different places. I know it feels like a huge wrench at the moment to be apart from them, but as you grow into middle-age and later life, you'll come to treasure the fact that there are people all over the world who you can travel to see and who will encourage you to explore worlds that are larger than your own. It's a gift that I cherish so much and I think you will too. Thanks for sharing

Hi Jade I know you’re probably still navigating your post grad feelings but I think it’s very beautiful that you’re feeling so sad about moving on because that means you made such meaningful connections and memories. I’m from the us and during most my undergrad experience I felt extremely lonely and overwhelmed I also graduated during 2020 so I just scared about the current state of the world. I’ve only recently made progress on my depression and social anxiety and finding my people. I’m going for my masters next month and hope my next experience is at least half of what you described

Dear Jade, I know that this is a different situation but I really resonate with what you said about saying goodbye to your friends. I did voluntary work in an inclusive community for people with and without disabilities and all the volunteers there became my family too. We stayed on through covid and faced many challenges together as well as incredibly happy moments, loads of casual magic in sharing day to day life to the say the least. Now we're also scattered all over the world and when I said goodbye to them I was extremly heartbroken and couldn't imagine my life without them. The truth is I don't think I'll ever love a group of people like I love them (even from afar) but that's okay. I've realized that I'll meet more people that are important to me, that I'll love equally but just in a different way. It does get better but it's okay to grieve the ending of a chapter- especially when it changed you a lot❤ You've been inspiring me for years, I hope this helps a bit.
Feel hugged!!! The casual magic will eventually return💫

Hi Jade, It’s been 4 years since I graduated from uni and I want you to know that it’s so normal to feel sad after leaving your uni community and it’s needed to be feeled too. Yesterday we attend to wedding of one of my closest friend from uni and it was like reuniting with family. It’s hard to be apart but also so nice to have people that you can call family 🥹

  • @cinephile1712
    @cinephile1712 Год назад +4

It can be hard transitioning to the next chapter in life, especially if the former one was so positive and full of growth and grounding relationships. Let yourself feel the feels - as long as they don’t consume you in a way that’s overwhelming and too sad. Then make decisions about the next chapter that feel as good a fit as possible. You won’t know for sure whether you made the best ones until you’re in it, but you can usually change what feels off or add in things that feed your soul, whatever that looks like. There’s a pervasive attitude that we somehow know who we are and have certainty about our next steps after graduating, but that’s BS. You’ll figure out where you want to be over time. Just listen to your gut, heart and soul, and you’ll increasingly build more certainty. Good luck and congratulations on graduating! xx

Hearing you talk about all the feelings you have post-graduation made me well up. My uni experience was much more regular than yours, and my friends live much closer to me (as in, all in the UK) but with all of our lives going in different directions, we hardly see one another. I graduated last summer and I was completely miserable for months, but I'm slowly getting there. I genuinely don't think anyone is fine when they leave uni, unless they really hated it. One year on, I still haven't been able to get a career and being a graduate is still one of the hardest things I've experienced, but I know I'm not alone, and neither are you!! Thanks for showing the good and the bad of everything you do, it's so refreshing!

I'm glad i've finished school im uncetrain about the future but a good thing I heard is "you were once scared of this moment, unsure what would happen, yet you did it, you were okay. And before that there was a time where you didn't think you'd get to the moment before that but you did." You always were scared of future moments before and it turned out okay then and it will again too. Trust the process and flow of time it'll come and you'll be ready when it does.

When you asked how do people do this…honestly, I think many have done like how you’ve done it. You’ve got this. Thank you for bringing us along in this time of transition; I think many of us (I know I have) have been through a transition where we suddenly feel untethered and unsure of where to go, and to be honest it feels cathartic to share in your moments of the unknown. Many times we only see moments in people’s lives where even if they don’t know, they have (or pretend to have) at least an idea of where they’re going, so to see this as a moment of complete unknown makes me feel somewhat validated in those similar moments I have felt, and will probably feel again.
Do you have some dedicated book videos from the past few years? I’d love some review/recap/recommendation vids if you feel like making them 😊

oh Jade you inspire me so much every single time I watch your videos 😪🦋
just wanted to say how grateful I am for your channel because every time I feel lost or unmotivated, I go here and just get so much energy and desire to live my life in the best way possible. I think you are one of the reasons I managed to get to the uni in america (i'm from russia) and experience the best freshman year I could possibly imagine. And the reason for that is not the physical stuff I got with moving abroad, but as little Jade once said, the attitude that every person can control. You taught me to find happiness in little things and appreciate the current, and that ability awarded me with a dream coming true. I'm currently at home but I'm very excited to go back to uni and enjoy my sophomore year even more (but also enjoying home right now cause that's the present :33 ).
and for those who are stepping in the new era of life (and for you Jade), I just want to say that feeling lost is okay, feeling sad is okay, feeling that you miss someone very much is okay. those feelings show that you appreciate your life and you are grateful for the moments that already happened. and your past will always be a part of you, those memories of good times will never go away. so don't be afraid of losing what you had, keep going, keep looking, and trust the universe cause I know it got something very special for such a magical person like you
    🌠
    love you dearly
    -sasha

I'm 20 now and I honestly still really miss it but things change in life to allow room for more experiences! You'll find your way 💗💛
Also, I've recently been forced to embrace minimalism a lot more as I've moved into a house much smaller than my old one with a teeny-tiny bedroom! But my soul feels much better for it, re-evaluating what belongings actually add value to my life.

This might end up being a lengthy letter to answer your question “how do people do this” in the first part, but here goes:
I graduated in 2020, after 7 weeks interning at the museum (doing very little marketing because I was still training for it) and 11 weeks from my bedroom (but this letter is not about lockdown, haha). I was so genuinely scared I was going to fall back into old habits of not being productive or a negative headspace, but mostly I was scared that now adulthood was really around the corner. For me, graduating had always been about becoming an adult and I was so not ready for it. It was awful. Mostly because I was also being pushed (hardly) towards an ‘official’ desk job by family, while all I wanted to do was grow my business.
I had my graduation ceremony on the 15th of September and on the night of the 14th, I had a massive breakdown. I felt so intimated by fellow students, who got to keep working at their internship after graduation while I had to quit (museums still had to be closed because of lockdown) and I fell into a hole (this was all in July). Until that breakdown in september. I had just published my first book and everything just ‘dissolved’. It was horrible. And on that night, I decided to write about that ‘post graduate’-feeling and ever since your previous video, about post grad, and especially after this video, I want to advice you to try the same: write about your experience.
It was so healing and relieving to write about how I felt post grad, but most importantly: it helped me prove, to both myself and my family, that I was ready to fight for the creative business route I wanted to take. And now, three years later, I’ve gone to Australia for five weeks thanks to it, but most importantly: I am now able to rent a house.
And I still get to help other students, just like I did back during my studies as a study guide, but this time way after graduation.
I was you ALL the best, dear Jade

Hi Jade. Nice and heartwarming video as Always. I think the only time that I was sad about graduation was in primary school. And that was the last and only time. My experience in school was bad, and I never really had that " this Is my second family" feeling. That's why I think that what are you know experiences ( even if painful) it's a gift. Love some people or some places it's beautiful, fulling living your life it's magical. So be hurt, be sad, be angry, and be grateful that you were lucky enough to be able to feel such things.

I can totally relate to how you describe the feeling after graduation. I was scared of making decisions and crying constantly for nothing which is not like me and feeling constantly stressed. I recently decided on doing a master degree instead of finding a job and had been applying for both but not gotten any interviews until I gave up on the job hunt. After I told my parents i was going to do the masters I booked my student accomodation and then my parents started looking at ferries to drive me to the uk since I am currently in the Netherlands. I just got a feeling that I needed to get myself out of that situation and that I needed to cancel my masters which I had been looking forward to since before I applied. I had never felt this anxious stressed and confused before. I had to get myself enthousiastic again for the masters and a week later got offered an interview for a job I really wanted to had to reject the offer for the interview as I was now going to do the masters degree

i feel like how hard graduating is isn't talked about enough. i promise you it's not just you. all we see is the smiley instragram posts of people in their caps and gowns, and we very rarely get to hear about the scary transition and teething problems of being flung into the real world. i finished my masters last year, aged 25, having been a student continuously since starting school at 4. i felt relieved to have got my masters but so lost without the safety blanket of university. i went from living in a cambridge college, surrounded by people i loved 24/7, to living in a houseshare, totally broke, applying frantically for jobs... i had no furniture, except a mattress i'd bought on my credit card, and could barely afford food. it was scary and anxiety inducing and took some real adjustment. but over time it was better than things had ever been before. once i got a job, i felt settled for the first time in my life, knowing that i was building a home for myself in a new place and that i wasn't trying to jump through the next academic hoop. i had time for hobbies and friendships in a way i didn't during uni. having my first full time "professional" job meant i had so much more money to be able to enjoy things. a year down the line, i now feel very content and at peace, more so than i ever did during uni. the transition is hard, but the destination (if you can ever really call it that) is so totally worth it.

i guess it's easy for a lot of people because their college experiences were probably not so good, like mine for example. nothing too fulfilling happened to me back in college, but my high school years were definitely more significant, i was happier, i made some dear friends, life was easier. it's not even that i peaked in high school, because i didn't, it's more that the community around me was just so great. i like my current self way more than my past self, i just wish to have that sense of community again, even if very different. idk what's my point with this, maybe just that no matter in which stage of life we are, we need to seek for community to feel at peace, but unfortunately that requires some luck too and i haven't been lucky in that aspect for a few years now.

I’m gonna pause the video to leave you a little comment 💗 I think the closest thing I’ve felt to what you’re feeling now is when I came back from my semester abroad in England. It’s crazy meeting people from so many different places, bonding with them, living in a happy fun little bubble for months (in your case, years) and then having to say goodbye to all of it without any guarantee of seeing them again soon. I didn’t have a group of friends in my country so losing that sense of belonging was beyond hard, I felt depressed and tremendously lonely when I came home. So yes, it sucks and I’m sending you a big hug. You’re a positive vibrant person and I’m sure you’ll be feeling more optimistic soon and you’ll meet again in the future if you really want to. 🫂

I'm in the same exact situation as you rn!! Plus I'm also graduating in a couple of months. I miss my study abroad experience so much and I'm also beating myself up for not living such an active life and not trying to socialise sooner. But I'm trying to feel grateful and accept where I am right now and take steps to where I would want to be.

🦋 Oh Jade, thank you so much for this video!💕 I feel like the way you feel right now is also tied to the way your studies were structured a lot! So it can make you appreciate them even more!✨I‘m graduating my Master‘s from a European Uni next week and here student life is very different: We live off campus, with other people who often do not study the same thing or at the same pace we are. 🏡We are immersed in the city we live in, people scattered around and friendships in all corners - not just university! I have a lot of friends in my program, but just as many who I know from making music or sports outside of the university, who live in the same neighborhood, worked in the same place or were randomly met at a sunny day in the park. 🛼💐🎷🫧 So graduating only means that your everyday-life-occupation will change drastically📚 (which is super scary!) but as life is embedded in so much more than uni structures already, that just means as many things can potentially stay as there are changing!👑 So that might be a reason the post-graduation-feels aren‘t the same for everyone, or specific to UK and US systems of studying!
I chose the everything-changes-option anyway and will move to a new continent directly after my Masters (which, yes, wildly scary!! 🌎), but most people don‘t - so for them graduating is a very slow change! Many people, occupations, routines and ways of life stay the same for them! 🍭

That doesn’t sound too different to most US schools but Jade goes to quite a unique university where she travels round to different countries each year, so all her uni friends are in different parts of the world which is prob why graduating is so sad in this case!

    • @alaskaaurora3723
      @alaskaaurora3723 Год назад

@@KtT-sn8cy Well I have also studied in the US and on-campus-living and the tight uni structures there do make a huge difference - and as Minerva through its affiliation with KGI is an American university at least that part of their education resembles a US-experience rather than e.g. a European one.

I think post-grad life probably so hard because of the style of uni that Minerva is... the fact that your greatest times take place in fantastic metropolitan cities and your classmates coming together at that specific unforgettable point in time... and that it can't ever be recreated. That would be hard on anyone! It's a lot easier for someone who goes to uni in a big city, stays in that city after graduation and most of their friends are doing the same, that way it's sort of like a minor continuation of uni times (this was my case, basically). It would be interesting to see what alums of your uni recommend or have to say about this topic, because the end of the whirlwind sounds a bit brutal.

The sooner it is done, the sooner I’ll be free of the psychological burden of procrastinating it, and my space will look its best! Just sorting out a way to make it a bit fun, might possibly play a video or audio while getting it done.
