Making one now. The cayenne measure in this recipe is 2 teaspoons. Will make it inedible. Without paprika, 3/4 teaspoon cayenne would suffice. I just shake it in one spot until I can see it. Baking it breast side down.

Just remember if you JUST use your crockpot for cooking the whole chicken the skin will come out soft and rubbery, what these titles of these vids fail to mention is that you really need to put the bird in the oven after it’s done to get the skin crispy.

Awesome. I'm cooking a chicken in the slow cooker today, and I normally put it on a bed of onions and garlic & a whole lemon up its backside (after scraping the pulp off to make the rub, which is normally just that + OO + a herb). Never occurred to use paprika, but I think I'm going to try that today after watching this because it looks delicious. Thanks from Arbroath x

Goodmorning and what a lovely recipe. I've just taken out a frozen chicken from the chest freezer and put it in the fridge to thaw for tomorow's dinner. It will be nice to have it ready when I come home from the allotment so I'll cook it for 8 hours on slow. I've all the ingrediënts in the home and I think I'm going for paprika powder instead of Cayenne LOL after my last curry I think my family prever that option..... Thank you very much for the inspiration and recipe, I'll be eating purslain with mashed potatoes this evening with saucages. Wishing you an awesome day xoxo.

The chicken looks lovely. If I do this method of cooking, I retain the vegetables and juices and just blitz them all together with a stick blender to make the gravy with some more stock and little drop of thickening. Brisket done with vegetables and a little water in the same way for at least 8hrs on low in the slow cooker, especially with the addition later on of parsley dumplings is really good and a bit cheaper than other beef joints. Adding some tomato paste when you put the dumplings in is good too.

I work in a kitchen and it’s illegal to wash chicken in the UK. One of the reasons is you risk spreading salmonella. Any bacteria on the chicken will get killed off when you cook it (maybe get a digital thermometer) it should be above 75 degrees in the thickest part - the leg.

A few new ideas for me there
I usually cook linger on high, but it does fall to pieces on removal! I also save the stock, but not for gravy (I cheat for gravy). A large chicken does us (and my appetite is erm, on the big side) for 3 meals with the remaining chicken and stock used either for soup or in a pie

My concern is rinsing the chicken as the UK FDA doesn't approve it.
Also, when I last cooked a whole chicken in the sc it fell apart as i tried to lift it out subsequently leaving bones behind, which even with care, left one behind on which i broke a tooth!
Any handy hints to avoid this, please? 😃
