Ayyyye I am the son of the black chef who got that rock thrown through his window. I went on to win third and first place for the Ramona gardens projects in a spelling bee with ALL LA projects, and I am now in school for social work. I graduate in one year. I’ll always be thankful for my experiences in east LA.

As a Chicano I do acknowledge and accept that a lot of my people can be racist. I tend to call it out when I see it happen. To be fair though, the “Wash Me!” on dirty cars happens to everyone that has a dirty car. It’s a Mexican prank that will certainly get pulled on you if your car is that dirty 😂

I remember growing up in the Ramona Gardens in the 90s. It was bad. I used to have a Afro American friend back in Elementary. One day at elementary school, he was in tears that he was moving out of the projects due to the fire bomb. I used to live on Crusado Ln for 2 years and Lancaster for 3 years. Just watching this video got me flashbacks. Most of my project life is good. But the neighborhood gang was bad. I’m glad mom raised me right or I could’ve been somewhere worse in my life.

Yep......mothers have to keep you busy. Lots of hobbys.....lots of school, sports, bowling leagues on the weekends......maybe even some piano lessons or some $hit. Me and a friend of mine who grew up in stop 6......we bowled, played sports and we rode dirtbikes outside of school. I also spent alot of time learning to play guitar, sax, learned how to read sheet music, drums.....a bit of piano. Thats how our mothers kept us busy......and it worked. Well for a little while anyway......for me. My problem was once I became an adult I started living it up......lived it up a bit too much. Suprised I'm still here though. Died twice from ODs, got shot once and stabbed on 3 seperate occasions......1 of which was 7 times. I made it though. I'm still alive and now I just try to live it down a little......or alot.

They’re also responsible for a very violent and heinous crime that took place three years ago in 2019 in Sunland, Ca. Three men hazard gang members with two female hazard gang accomplice’s cornered a pregnant elementary school teacher while she was turning unto her street to go home. They proceeded to open her door and car jack her. They stabbed her repeatedly even though she was screaming and begging for her unborn child. They ignored her pleas and instead they all laughed and as the one pos gangster was stabbing her repeatedly was laughing and saying die b*tch over and over again. That sweet lady lives right around the corner were I used to live. Thank God she survived and gave birth to a healthy child.

The reason La Emme (Mex Maafia) lashed out for the release of "American Me" is because it depicts the origin story of Mex Mafia based on real people, and the main character was based on a founding member. And in the movie they show him young gang member in juvee and is raped in a scene causing him to turn the tables on the rapist and kills him resulting in his continuation of being locked up due to being charged with (1st) murder and now is incardinated from juvey till 18 then goes straight to prison. for aa significant time.(resulting in MM formation eventually)
The issue is in MM no members can be homosexual in any manner especially being raped. So MM mad that in real life this never happened and it is disrespectful to their code of conduct, not to mention being portrayed in an national big time movie. They pressured and tried intimidating movie company after failing to get it's creator Edward James Olmos to agree to remove/change the scene.
This scene which Mr.Almos' made the decision to keep in (even after harsh warnings & threats by the gang) was what some say, caused (in consequence of this creative decision) the deaths of all the people (that had worked on the film). There is more detailed stories online possibly RUclips as well, about this specific part of the story.

We've always been good relations with big Hazard. And I lived on Tremont right at Lancaster. The last thing I want to say is how many true neighborhoods have their own projects flats Aliso village they share there's. In Hazard projects it's just Ramona Gardens Hazard and that's it.

It's nice being able to have enough land to enjoy it by planting a garden, hunting fishing, and providing for my family. I've lived in several cities but there's nothing like living in the peaceful, quite countryside where you can listen to packs of Coyotes at night. There's nothing like sitting on the porch listening to the birds sing and the sounds of the forest at night. It's calming and peaceful. I feel for anyone living in those gang invested areas.

As a Hispanic Black man I've experienced racism by my own Raza just because I'm not full Mexican. My sister and I used to get called the "N" word and the Mexican slang word for blacks because we were darker and our hair was curlier. Growing up on the Mexican side of town I always had to fight just because I'm mixed so I was always taunted and picked on even in school. I'm proud of my Cuban, African, and, Italian roots I inherited from my Dad but ashamed of my Mexican side because of everything I went through growing up by them. To this day I still don't have Mexican friends even though most my family is Mexican since my mom's side is Mexican. I've always been the biggest and tallest besides my brother and sister on my moms side of the family so we always knew we was different. I'm proud of my African roots and even in prison the only people who accepted me were my brothers cause even the Mexicans there knew I was mixed and would ask what my race was. Black is beautiful but we all the same inside. It's sad to see how so many Mexicans from here are so racist against blacks. Where I'm from we were always out numbered but we were never outsized.

I love your research in this story. You have allot of accurate information up to the T with names. One thing I did want to say for the record. It was honestly not just about being black. The reason I know this is because my step dad was black, we lived in the heart of BH right next door to ground zero. This was back at the start of 1988 till his passing in 2008. Never did we have an issue because he was a good man that kept to himself. Something to know about BH is that if you don't bring your gangs or start claiming hoods outside of BH, regardless if your skin color...no one cares. But the moment you do you are now representing the rest of your skin tone. That's as much as I can say because I can't share the "behind the scenes" details. But yes, for the record, it wasn't because the families were black.

They should have transferred all the residents out of that housing to set a tone. They should have condemned those projects. Growing up, starting in middle school, I didn’t get along with the Hispanics. We would fight daily. However, when I met my wife, although she looks Dominican, her mother is black and her father is Mexican, from Guadalajara. They showed me that we could get along, and love each other. We’ve been married 23 years with 4x kids. They embrace/love the Latino side of their multicultural family. My wife’s brother is married to an Italian women, her other sister is married to a Puerto Rican man, and her other sister is married to a Caucasian man. Our family looks like the United Nations. I realize we probably will not get along as long as those whom want to eradicate us both still exist. But just respect each other’s hustle and don’t turn it racial when you have a dispute.

Nothing more than slurs..maybe. Second, you don't see them doing the same thing to white people who gentrify the areas. Speaks volumes. Lastly, the blacks were almost always women and children. Oh yes that's where my mother was living there when it was brand new Ramona Gardens 1940s and Boyle Heights but she never got into that gang culture and she did not like that and she beat up one gang banger try to steal her father's car. Years later she would drive by there so she can reminisce about her past she went to Roosevelt High School where she met my father and they got married and they had seven children I miss my mom she passed away last year she was 95 I wanted to take her back to her high school but she got dementia.
