I was raised Jehovahs witness in the Spanish congregation . Our preaching territory was panorama city, pacoima, van nuys. All during the late 80's - mid 90's. I remember going door to door on Blythe street, Langdon st, Columbus street off of Roscoe and Sepulveda. Back in those days it was crazy. Blythe st used to be blocked off with cinder block so u couldn't drive thru, due to all the drug dealing. We would preach every Saturday and Sunday in the morning, knocking on all the apartments at 7am. half the times we would wake up all the gang members, they would open the door half asleep and we would ask if they wanted to learn about the Bible. ill never forget those days.

I lived off Titus St. and Willis Ave. I had to walk to school Monday through Friday through the heart of Blythe St. hood across the train tracks to Fulton Jr. High. This video explains why Panorama City is full of addicts and tents. Everywhere you go there you see addicts on one, tents and trash all over the place. I've seen addicts at Walmart rack stuff. The abandoned Montgomery Wards building is infested with addicts after years and years of being sealed off to the public. The gentrification coming after the light rail station is completed on Roscoe and Van Nuys Blvd. might end this. Then again it might end up looking like DTLA, WeHo or Beverly Hills w/ the combination of drug addicts and hipsters living in the same vicinity.

One time we were playing outside by the sidewalk and they would hav a shot out right in front of us we would find shotgun holes on our fence the size of quarters or maybe even the size od a silver dollar. Also when i would walk to the elementary school taking shortcuts through the alley you would sometimes find junkies overdosed.

So I used to Skateboard down Van Nuys and Roscoe and Laurel Canyon. Van Nuys First Baptist which used to be a Christian Private school was 5 blocks from that location I woud skate from that school thru the streets and go thru that zone. I remember bieng a Teen thru those streets to get to Panaroma City I would have to skate thru that area. I was so freaking Naive. Until I got invited to party in that area I had no clue. This was in the 80s and early 90s I had a friend who attended Byrd Junior High and we ended up hanging out there. Holy Sh!!! I could not belive the chaos the lack of care for anyone who they did not approve of. Was nothing but a street trap. I cant believe I was welcomed. Might of been my lack of being judgemental or just protected by GOD I dont know but I was given a tour of the whole block and I was given approval for protection. I never had any problems after that getting thru Blythe or even Pacoima although they PB boys were always fighting against Vineland Boys and the Pacoima Piru bloods.
