    In order to help my decluttering process, I opened a consignment store in the small city where I reside. It has been a game-changer in my home, helping me really think about what stays and goes. Additionally, many of my customers don't drive. I love offering them an affordable oasis in what is otherwise, a shopping desert.

    My bf has a HUGE collection of DVDs. I'm a librarian. The last time I stayed at his place I alphabetized them into DVD binders for him while he was at work...there were over 1000 discs, so I kept myself entertained for a long time. He actually uses his DVDs though, and because the binders are high capacity, getting rid of one or two doesn't actually make a difference in the space they take up.

    • @thenopedetective
      @thenopedetective 2 года назад +4

      This would be interesting! I think a big part of her minimalist approach is not going totally ham so it wouldn't really make sense for her content since she's not a "super minimalist".
      She's done a few more experiential minimalism videos, that could be a fun alternative.

    • @pezjunkie13
      @pezjunkie13 2 года назад +10

      If you want an advanced deck utter I really recommend a book titled the Swedish Art of Death Cleaning. It sounds a little extreme, but it is about preparing your living space for the end of life so you don’t leave too much for your loved ones to deal with once you’ve passed on. There is nothing more “advanced” in terms of decluttering than that! It is also handled in a very thoughtful and caring way by the author. I read it at the age of 33 and found it very thought provoking with some good ideas even for this stage of my life. Heads up though: some North Americans get upset with her opinions/perspectives so maybe check out reviews before you read.

    I declutter pretty well from time to time- when we purchase new things in my family, we get rid of some of our older items that we are not using anymore. I have taught my kids to maintain their space with the "one in one out rule." They have a big collection of plushies so whenever they want a new one, they most definitely have to get rid of an old one. We believe in a clean and organized space at all times. I love a good decluttering session! I recently decluttered some CDS and books. I have been decluttering for 4 years but the things I decide to keep changes all the time. What I thought would add value to my life or what I thought I would use again, I actually didn't, so it has to go. For example, When I would declutter, I would keep some books and CDS because they were things I loved as a teen so I thought "I need to keep these. I loved them as a teen." However, I kept looking at them and thinking about decluttering them. I never used them. If I want to listen to the CDs, there's Spotify. If I want to read the books again, I can check them out at the library! If I ever wanted to own them again, they are not hard things to find. However, If I want to buy them again, I will have to consider if I want to spend the money to own them again and also have them take up the space.

    Dealing with the impulsive purchasing decisions I made so lightly 3/4 years ago (I try to be super mindful about how I get rid of things) has made me hyper vigilant about what I "allow" into my home now. Yes! Always trying what is the most sustainable thing to do with the stuff you decluttered gets so stressful. I found out pens/plastic stationery is super hard to recycle, so I had to find a terracycle bin to discard of them. Then it's the same for beauty products, worn out clothing… I can’t bear just sending it all to the landfill but it's a whole process finding out the best thing to do. Certainly makes me think twice before impulse purchasing or just accepting a free pen.

    Expired sunscreen felt personal lol 😂 We always have that problem of not checking when it expired and therefore just keeping it there… 😅

    I try to stay really on top of decluttering. I live with roommates so I can't declutter as much as I'd like but some of these items that I really need to just bite the bullet and do it.

    I was just thinking about this today; I have SO MANY reusable bags, and they are made of a strong material (understandably so); so it’s not easy to just fold them to nothing. They take up so much space and my car always feels cluttered because it’s full of these bags! Do places like Goodwill take these in? Or what do I do with them?

    Dear parents!
    When Your kids are very good behaviour all the time and always taking good care of their things, keeping their rooms very clean, loving their favorite things and want to make nice childhood collections of their things: books, clothes, toys, video games, clothes, DVDs and etc, then donataing is very wrong thing to do. If You have few space then storage boxes and shelves will help You out and Your kids will be very happy and thankful then, if they can keep their favourite things. Childhood things are very valuable and it is very sad, if they won’t see them anymore in their life. Every child should have the right to keep their things, if they can take good care of them all the time!!!
    Respectfully,
    Astra Viil 🥰🙏

    CDs are hard. I would get rid of all of our huge collection but my husband is so attached to them. He is right that the sound quality is better than on downloads but they take up so much space.

    the only problem i have with 'just take a photo of it' is that i have way too many photos already on my old phone and my old computer and on my new phone now already, its overwhelming. i prefer physical copies of stuff usually unless its going to be a temporary thing, like taking a photo of a lightbulb so i can go to the store and know which bulb i need or something, and then sooner or later i know i can just delete that pic cause it was a temporary reminder

    You can actually add some nail polish remover to thick nail polish to thin it out. Not trying to encourage anyone to keep it just throwing that out there! I own 1 nail polish for the record 😂

    Fun fact from the spelling fairy: when you mean paper for writing letters, envelopes, etc. it is spelled “stationery” not “stationary.”
    Why am I writing this? No one cares.
