pretty cool test I personally use NAP Killzone 2 inch cut , before that rage , grim Reaper's and NAP scorpions. In my opinion with expandable broadheads it's a one and done arrangement after it goes through a deer and is sticking in the ground that Brodhead gets screwed off the arrow and The arrow gets inspected and the Brodhead is taken off and thrown away , with all the time and money spent pursuing this sport I want a brand new one every shot ,and all of my hunting buddies follow that rule to. its all about your placement with any Broadhead they all work when you make a good shot
Yeah, I rarely re-use a broadhead. However, if a head is damaged while passing thru an animal, then it's not cutting effectively all the way thru an animal. If you kill that animal, then no problem. But I'd rather use a head that I'm confident will retain its integrity--no bent or broken blades/ferrules--all the way thru an animal. The chances of success are much greater that way.
Again I think that test is more testament to strengthen of your arrows there freaking crazy strong the only one of those I would use is the sever they are really tough
Yeah, I wondered if it would...impressive for sure. The Stainless Steel Swhacker typically breaks when I shoot it into scapula while it's in the closed position, but in this test, I shot it open and it did fairly well too.
Killzone all day in a real world setting! Only used Sevr broadheads twice and blood trail was minimal on both deer, Killzone will have deer leaking like a faucet!!

Well, it depends on what “out performs” means. Most mechs will fly better than most cut in contact single bevels. Most mechs will make a much wider cut than most single fixed blades. So in those metrics, the mechs outperform the fixed blades. But for penetration and durability, most fixed single bevels will outperform most mechs. But for hunting something like whitetail or smaller hogs or turkey, all else equal, a top notch mech like a Sevr will fly better, make a wider cut, and still pass thru the animal-and thus they would “outperform” a 2 blade single bevel in lethality.
John, been watching/following your channel for a long time now, & this is first time that I HAVE 2 DISAGREE, with you... You broke the Robusto & because it out penetrated the 1.5 and actually stuck in so far - that they ONLY WAY to get it out, was for YOU to break it,,, I believe that the actual WINNER is the SEVER 2.0 ROBUSTO.
Yeah, I can't disagree with you. I tried to convey that in the vid. It was a toss up. I couldn't really tell how much I broke the Robusto compared to how much it broke, cause it was inside the concrete. So it would be hard to declare it a winner when a chunk of it is missing :) But honestly, it's an amazing head. From other testing, I know the blades on the 1.5 are a bit more durable just cause they are shorter. And the tip on the 1.5 is more stout. But the Robusto is all steel, compared to the titanium of the 1.5. Truly a toss up.
Great job as always... hopefully in the next few months you can do a test on the new tuffhead evolution series broadheads, or maybe their old traditional screw in. Love these vids thanks and good bless

I love this test. Pretty amazing and not what I expected. I'd be interested in the fuction of the tips in flight. Are there issues with blades not locking back ect?
Thanks John. You can search Sevr Lusk here on RUclips and find a lot of my tests of them and many hunts as well. There are some times that the blades of the 2.0 don't fully lock open...but even then, they're like any other "Gator" style head. The majority of the time the 2.0 lock well, and I've never had the 1.5 not lock open. They fly extremely well; one of the very best. Just shot a moose with one at 70 yards. That vid was posted last week.
Yeah, like Stanley said. It's cause I shot every head in the open position to test the blades and make it fair to compare rear deploying with over the top deploying... so with some of the heads, that means both blades don't hit at the same time.
Sevr all the way!! I absolutely love the robusto! Little disappointed in the afflictor but I had full confidence in the Sevr broadheads. Great video!!!
The sever reminds me of the Ulmer's Edge. Have you had any experience with the Ulmer's Edge? I watched a video on it years ago, and I've always wanted to test one but haven't been bow hunting.
I was hoping you would use a small chisel or flat head screw driver to fracture the rock around the head instead of cyclic stressing the steel to failure. Either way, thanks for the rest John. Love all of your videos.
The best expandable for the money is the Muzzy shank. I used it this past year on a nice 8 point and a 220 pound bear they worked great. Awesome blood trails and the bear only went 40 yards.
Just put in an order for a couple of Robustos - first mechanicals ever for me. Still am a bit concerned about penetration but I guess my Xpedite @72lbs and 28.5“ should generate enough KE with a 510g arrow as to not cause any issues on all the animals we get a chance to hunt over here in Europe 👍
Brother Lusk, what would be your overall choice on type of broadlead, fixed or mechanical? Not asking for brand just type, if you can. Thanks in advance.
Man, it depends on what I'm hunting and what my bow and arrow set up is and how far my shots are...those are all huge factors in whether I recommend a mech or a fixed blade.
Some how I missed this test. Super cool test John looking forward to you getting settled in Texas and starting up your tests again. Hope and pray things are going well.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures I was think about you and your wife during this last storm in Texas. Two weeks after moving to Arkansas from Wa. we went through a big storm here like no other,it was CRAZY! Still getting used to the weather but love it here.
I usually don’t worry too much about destruction testing because I’m not convinced that it translates well to real world hunting, however I’m feeling good that I shoot Sevr 2.0s and 1.5s......just impressively engineered head!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I know I shot 5 animals with the Sevr 1.5 last year and every one came out looking brand new--which means it kept it's cutting edge and penetration ability all the way thru.
So....I shoot the Grim Reaper Micro which you compared in the test. I use a compound 30/72 and love the performance of the SEVR. Question, for elk...would you recommend 2.0 for cut or 1.5 for more penetration hunting elk and big body mule deer? Thanks for all you do, best archery tests both heads and bows on the internet...Nice Cape Buffalo BTW!
The Robusto is much stronger--the stainless they use is stronger than titanium. Titanium is great for its weight to strength ratio, but it's not as durable as most steels. With the narrow tip on the 2.0 and the Robusto, the Robusto will hold up better on hard impacts.
Great video. Awesome stuff. The SEVR website does not show the Robust in a 1.5 and 2.0 is Titanium and only 200 grain. Where can I find the Robust in SS and 100 grain?
Great video John , after shooting the rage nc and how week these heads are I will never shoot mechanical heads again that’s why I only used Australian made broadheads because they tough made properly and design well to take down big game, the only head I will only use that is American made is slick trick standard,
Please tell me that wasn't one of those $1000 (or so) arrows from Bishop Archery that mushroomed. I mean, shouldn't it be able to take that for the amount of money they cost?
That was not one of their super expensive ones...and the insert had come out partially, but I shot it anyway, rather than reinstalling it...I shouldn't have.
Yeah, I've seen those as well. Like any gator style opening head, the medium it impacts has to simulate hide; they're designed to open on hide. So putting tight leather or something like that in front of gel or foam opens them up. I've take a lot of animals with them now and they've never not opened. I prefer the 1.5 cause they even open on soft mediums due to the shorter blades.
Cool test! Obviously, any of these heads held up to one bone impact on a game animal....which is generally all your going to get. I think this proves that it's largely irrelevant which head you choose...they all will get the job done with proper shot placement. On a different note, I've seen more recent testing showing the sevr broadhead not performing well against other heads in more "realistic" test mediums. In the end, they were all impressive....but definitely go with sevr if we end up at war shooting Chinese light armor instead of animals🤣.
Thanks Eric. Well, any head can be lethal...but many animals are lost to broken or bent or severely blunted blades. So I want to stack the odds as much in my favor as possible, by going with very durable heads. It's the angled impacts that are most difficult for broadheads to handle. Even the best of the best can get pretty beat up by an angled shot on a hard medium. But it's impossible to truly replicate those in testing, so I only go with tests that are very consistent. No doubt Sevrs are the most durable mech on the market...but also no doubt, they too can incur damage on angled, hard impacts on animals. But the way I see it, I'd rather use a head that can handle 5 shots thru steel plate and 3 into concrete than one that can't even handle one shot thru steel plate. If a Sevr can get beat up in an animal, how much more one of those others.
Ok. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I used to feel the same, but have come to value a wide two blade with a cross tip over a three blade. The wider cuts typically stretches into an even wider cut once the animal starts moving. Whereas a 3 blade, smaller sized hole stays basically the same. And a typical two blade may ricochet easier than a 3 or 4 blade, but not with the Sevr, due to the swinging blades. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated.
Yeah, can't beat the durability of a top notch fixed blade. BUT...there are a lot of fixed blade heads that are no where near as durable as the Sevr 1.5
Right?! I'm always wearing my glasses--I've had nocks, concrete chips and even blades fly back close to me. One time the arrow even flew back into the staircase. Now I put a board over the top of the broadhead cage so it contains them better. I sometimes tell people "don't try this at home" but then I'm doing it in my home. Haha.
I killed three deer (one at 42 yards) and a coyote last year with sevr 1.5. Shot placement on deer were perfect. They all died within 30 yards. Bad hit on coyote but died in 60 yards.
This just further confirms my choice for the Swhacker 2 blade even though it got third for a one time use broadhead you cant go wrong with it. Hahahahaha thank you for this video. It was fun.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures oh i know but the #251 with the 3” cut is what i need. Its a 150 gr ultimately they are all good heads they will all kill if the setup is right. But for me its the large cut and the heavy broadhead. Its the only mechanical i know of that is huge cut diameter and 150 gr.
I refuse to use ANY mechanical, they've ALL failed sometime!! G 5 montec fixed blades and never looked back. Zero failures in over a decade of use!!! Have several times shot through both shoulder blades and lungs and pulled it out of the ground and cleaned it off and they were still perfect and sharp enough to shave hair on my arm!! Of course they were all resharpened before use on another animal, but performance and re usability is why I only use those!!
LOL. No Trophy Ridge or Rockets. I don't care how Tuff it is! I'm after the BullsEye. Maybe a Meat Bone Damage Test at Various Speeds and Angles to See if They hit the BullsEye without Deflecting. I like Rocket MeatSeekers. I don't expect to ReUse It. The Arrow Shaft may not Survive, either. When Blades hit Bones They get Saw Bladed. Shoot Three Blades. Who cares if One Breaks. It still has 2 left. Make Your Shot Count. The Rest is History.
Well, this was only a durability test. And I only had these 16 laying around the house. How many do you have laying around your house? There are more than a hundred different mechs out there; I can't test them all.
Well, single bevels have their strengths...and mechs have theirs. I've taken a lot of animals with both. Everything is a tradeoff in broadhead design. Mechs will make a MUCH larger hole and be MUCH more forgiving in flight. A typical single bevel head will be MUCH more durable and penetrate MUCH more deeply. For whitetail, I way prefer a top notch mech to a single bevel two blade, just because I know I'm going to get a lot more bloodletting. For Cape Buffalo, I prefer a two blade single bevel.
I hope all you guys who use these mechanical pieces of garbage are considering switching to a fixed head or cut on contact at least. After watching this I don't know how anyone would choose to use a mechanical head

Yeah, the power of an arrow shouldn't be underestimated.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures what is the tip made of or was it all steel
@@LuskArcheryAdventures tungsten broadheads would be interesting
"I may need King Arthur..." 😂😂
Haha.
Love the toughness of the sever but not a fan of two blade design.
Guess I’m going to keep using my cut on contact single bevels.
Yeah, can't beat the durability of a top notch fixed blade. BUT...there are a lot of fixed blade heads that are no where near as durable as the Sevr 1.5
@@LuskArcheryAdventures I agree. Nothing is perfect. I am giving the Cutthroats a try this next season
6:06 Listen to the shrapnel!
Haha.
If you want to get rid of some of them I'd be happy to take some of the ones you don't want
There aren't any that I don't want. But thank you.
Can I get a pack of grim reaper hybrid
You can order them from Grim Reaper's website.
I used rage hypodermic last year they all killed the deer nicely but the blades were toast ever time
Rage blows
Yeah, they almost always break first.
This is obviously a late comment but just so you know Grim Reaper has fixed the issue this year for that 4 blade that broke
Thanks Carl. Yes. But even the 2022 models I tested had problems with the retention cup breaking on harder impacts.
I killed three deer (one at 42 yards) and a coyote last year with sevr 1.5. Shot placement on deer were perfect. They all died within 30 yards. Bad hit on coyote but died in 60 yards.
Very well done. Thanks for sharing that.
You should do this with single bevels.
I've done this with many single bevels on my channel.
This just further confirms my choice for the Swhacker 2 blade even though it got third for a one time use broadhead you cant go wrong with it. Hahahahaha thank
you for this video. It was fun.
Thanks Chris. And the Levi Morgan series are more durable than the basic models.
I'd like to see all broadheads tested
Do you mean a list of them? On my channel there is a tab called, "Playlists" and if you click on that, there is a playlist of all my Broadhead Tests.
I’m rooting for the Wasp Jackhammer.
:) Just finished a new test of them...coming soon.
i really want a broadhead that opens and goes through deers ribs period end
Me too...and also keeps its edge, and it's fully cutting position all the way thru the animal. Those are big asks.
I dont ever recall shooting an animal that's full of sinderblocks
So funny. You're the first person to ever say that. Great comment.
Ever thought about soaking those scapula in water overnight just to mimic what bone tissue would be more like on the real animal?
That's a good idea. But in this case, I am only using them for a durability test; so I wanted them hard, in order to test the heads.
No Kratos?
I was only testing what I had lying around the house.
Let's see sevr vs maxone
Well, no comparison in the really hard impact department. Sevrs stick in the concrete; Maxones explode. But they can be a good choice for the money
@@LuskArcheryAdventures yeah, you are definitely right on that one.
Your missing the best broadhead shoulder bone crusher on the market. Throw all them in the garbage! THE ROCKET SIDEWINDER.
:) I only tested what I had in my bin.
Sevr 2.0 had more penetration its number one in my book.
The Robusto is the same head but even stronger and heavier. But they're all good.
I don’t even own a bow anymore and I almost bought a sever
Haha. That's really funny. Thanks for sharing that.
Don’t walk barefoot in his house, you will cut open your feet.😅
Haha. That's true!
Should have tested Zeus
I've tested them in the past, but this was just the heads I had laying around. Check out my test of the Zeus as well.
3 blade shwackers going to win
Is that really what you think? They did fairly well, but an aluminum ferrule isn't typically going to win many destruction contests.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures the blades on the sevr are more durable than I thought.
Glad they work for you.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures they'll work for anybody
YOU SHOULD HAVE BROKE THE CINDER BLOCK WITH A HAMMER RATHER THEN BREND THE BROADHEAD BACK AND FORTH!
I've since started using a hammer and chisel. But it's still a pain. Too expensive and cumbersome to buy new cinder blocks for each head I test.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures not that many broadhead have what it takes to stick in a cinder block that deep! Keep testing ur the Best ☺️
I don’t like mechanicals… AT ALL!
Single bevels are the way to go.
Not sure what you mean by that. The Sevr held up better than most fixed blade heads did.
They all lose
Why do you say that?
@@LuskArcheryAdventures I just don't like mechanical heads 😂
I love the sevr 1.5 hands down best mechanical !!!!
Yeah, I have to agree, at this point in time anyway.
im pretty sure that was NOT a real elk bone you shot through with the arrows xd
Uhhhh..yes it was.
