Well Sir! From watching many mechanical head tests of every kind in the various categories like penetration and flight my choice would be the Sevr 1.5 hybrid. But, I have to say in all my 50+ years of bow hunting I have never used a mechanical head. Two or four blade only. 👍👍
Sevr is the best and only broad head I’ll ever use again . They are as dependable and even more accurate than any fixed that I have used. Never had a deer go farther than 50 yds even on bad shots . They just don’t fail !
@jakefryer3071 nothing beats real world experience. Thanks for sharing and I agree, the Sevrs are outstanding. Thanks for watching and good luck this season!
Seems to have too many parts to fail. Im sure theyll work under normal conditions. Simplicity makes reliability. I've reused shwackers by giving a quick resharpen. Shwackers are tough durable simple broadhead
The Swhacker blades have sharpened opposed rib breaker blades when in the closed position. Those will break through the rib cage and then deploy the big sharp blades when it’s inside. Creates havoc. I only use the 2”. I’ve NEVER tracked a deer farther than 25 feet. Looks like a crime scene. So much blood Stevie Wonder could find your deer.
@user-eo1qq4xz8w that's awesome! There's nothing better than real world experience. Thanks for watching and for sharing. I'm looking forward to using the Swhackers!
If you do your job, they will do theirs. If you notice, all others that look like a Swhacker don’t have the sharpened rib breakers. The Rage’s don’t either. Their biggest weakness. There’s a patent on the rib breaker blades. My last buck was 30 yards broadside. I drilled him through both lungs. He ran 14 feet. 14 feet on my honor. Fell over and kicked once. That was it. These deflate those air bags fast. When it breaks through the rib cage, the big blades deploy inside the cavity and the haven’t cut anything yet so they are razor sharp. Tears them up. I’ll never use anything else.
We shot two does last year with a Beast. Broadside through the ribs. In both cases the head opened up about 1-1/2” on entry but then closed and made a small wound channel through the vitals. Going through a rib was enough to close them and they did not open back up through the heart and lungs. Not the performance I would like from a mechanical. It was open after passing through the deer.
I'm choosing the Swhacker Hybrid this year. Been using the old standard green ones up to this point with no issues, just the hybrid seems a touch better to have more entry wound when you have a broadside shot. Any amount of quartering and the regular swhackers will leave a massive gash.
Sevr's can be closed without a tool. Pinch a blade with each hand, pull the blades apart, twist the blade on your right away and twist the left towards you.
I have given up on mechanicals. Way too many of my kills have turned passing through ribs on broadside shots and ended up exiting way outside of vitals. Of these kills, more than half have gone over 100 yards. Switched back to a fixed 3 blade and haven't had a deer go more than 50 yards since (and no exit wounds outside of vitals). Bonus: I can then sharpen the blades and reuse them, unlike every mechanical I have shot, which is either ruined or requires replacement blades. Fixed blade, ftw
@renaissanceliving1214 some mechanicals you can resharpen, but a lot are replacement blades. Did you watch the Fixed Blade video too? ruclips.net/video/h8WCaPE8cGo/видео.html
To each their own. Killed 10 mature buck with my little montec g5, none gone past 60 yards. All pass through, through ribs, and still using them just resharpen. Simple and they work. No worries of blade not deploying or not passing through. Not best for 40+ yards, but we keep most shots within 30, or 5 yards like the last one.

Used Grim Reaper for a long time, just switched to the Sevr.... The SEVR is no joke!!! Looks like a permanent switch for me. It was like turning on a water fountain. You can close them by hand hold a blade in each hand ( fingers) one side go up and away the other, down and toward will unlock ( slowly obviously its a razor sharp arrow) and close. Also when using as a practice head remove the rubber bands or roll them all the way down to the fletching.

Shot 15 deer with Swackers and they seem to work well for mechanicals. Really enjoying tooth of the arrow for a fixed and is probably my all around go to now.
The Grim Reaper penetrated almost as much as other broadheads of much smaller cut size. That is VERY impressive. Out of this, I shoot the Sevr (original robusto 2") and also had very good luck with the Grim Reaper Pro series 150gn, 1 1/2" crossbow broadhead. I shoot the Grim Reaper crossbow series because its the only one they make that is a 150gn in a 1 1/2". Amazing results with this broadhead from a vertical bow. Sevr has a tendency to produce small exit wounds once in a while. The grim reaper always looks like you hit the deer, with a machete.
I shoot grim reaper... thinking about switching... I have killed every animal I hit with the grim reaper... just want to be as effective as possible. Pulling 70 pounds shooting a heaver arrow. My shots are typically 15-22 yards away. Any recommendations?
I’ve used all of these heads and went back to the grim reaper… I’ve never not had a deer drop within sight using them, and even if one ran a bit, the blood trails are so big it’s like following a red carpet to your deer
Ive shot sevr for several yrs but last yr tried the beast and had no problems taking 7 whitetails with 2 heads with just stopping between hunts so i ordered 2 dozen this spring also got 6 sevr hybrids to play with so far have had really good results with both but beast are by far the sharpest and i like the no band design have had several bands break on sevr putting in quiver after dark so besides that there my #1 and #2 heads
i used the grim reapers on a spike the other night, using a 50lb bow (my GF, im rehabbing my shoulder currently.....) had a 12-15 yard shot, hit all three lungs and heart. the impact point had a massive blood spray probably like a 5 foot circles worth. excellent blood trail, however found my arrow on the ground with the blades closed...... so immediately im like, noooooo! i found him about 80yards away, and upon inspecting of heat and lungs, they literally looked like ground beef. even my little Jr. nearly punched through, just couldnt break the skin on the other side...... totally destroyed the brisket on the far side. but blown away by the amount of damage done on the inside.
battle axe is basically a fixed blade in flight. bare shaft that bow and i guarantee you have a big nock left going on. could just be torquing the bow hand too. that will cause big nock right or left on bare shafts.

Was disappointed in the sevr after two kills with little penetration, swapped to the grim reaper’s and just shot a buck this week. It didn’t make it 40 yards and created an amazing blood trail. Will be stick with the grim reapers for a while!
I shoot the grim reapers and i gotta say iv been very impressed with how lethal they are. 4 deer down with them no blood trail but only made it between 20 and 50 yds before they crashed. Still cant figure out the no blood thing but as long as they drop that close i guess i dont really need a trail to follow haha
technically, what you're saying about penetration isn't correct given these factors. Same bow, same arrows, same ballistic gel. the only difference are the broadheads. i think what you mean is the ballistic gel isn't accurate compared to flesh on say, a deer. But this is technically a direct representation of penetration test too...
Not when the broadheads function differently. The Beast is designed to close and go around dense material before opening up again. The Sevrs are designed to pivot side to side to do the same. The other two open and stay open. So when you shoot those into a dence material, it's not a direct representation of how these heads will react when inside an animals cavity. That's all I was trying to say.
Funny how all the fixed blade guys are watching your video and come here to comment. It’s like they really want to be involved in the discussion. 😂 i had problems getting the Beast broadheads to stay closed in my quiver while walking around.
I just know from research and common sense that a cut on contact broadhead will always be a better choice. I have been burned by Rage and friends have as well. All the big hunting shows on tv will get 6” penetration and turn to the camera like they hung the moon. It’s embarrassing
I agree and this is why I stayed away from them for five years and only shot fixed blades. I think a lot of these companies have come leaps and bounds from other companies that just couldn't cut it. Getting a pass through on deer with the compound bow technology, the correct arrow weight and set up with a sharp broadhead should be expected almost every single time. I'll be using a couple of these this year and will also have a fixed blade on hand. I'll keep you posted on how I make out.
None of those! The old rage extreme chisel tip 2.3 with a red collar is still devastating the big bucks I shoot and the rage extreme chisel tip nc works well also…
I saw a dead winner it would have to be the dead meat it out penetrated the rest and it was dead on and accuracy and you have three blades instead of two and the Grim Reaper right there with it what do you mean you didn't see a clear winner
@@donwilson350 I wasn't judging the ballistics gel for penetration because of how dense it is. The other heads will perform differently in an animal than in that gel. Thanks for watching.
I used to use the Dead meats still would if im hunting from a blind or tree stand. Both pronghorns I shot went about 20 yards but I got tired of being worried about the blades coming undone.

I'm not sure if you watched the entire video, but I speak about all of the broadheads equally. The Sevr and Beast need more explanation as they react to dense material. Some people see that as being defective which they are not. Thanks for watching.

@@Practice2Perfection you can't go wrong with either!
I shoot grim reaper... thinking about switching... I have killed every animal I hit with the grim reaper...
just want to be as effective as possible. Pulling 70 pounds shooting a heaver arrow. My shots are typically 15-22 yards away. Any recommendations?
@efcherry they're all great. I'm hoping to use the Sevr, Beast, and G5's this season. Can't go wrong with the Swhacker either.
I’ve used all of these heads and went back to the grim reaper… I’ve never not had a deer drop within sight using them, and even if one ran a bit, the blood trails are so big it’s like following a red carpet to your deer
@markruby3916 that's a great way to explain the walk up! Awesome. Thanks for watching.
@@jeff_8789 Nice! That's awesome. Nothing beats experience in the field. Thanks for watching.
i used the grim reapers on a spike the other night, using a 50lb bow (my GF, im rehabbing my shoulder currently.....) had a 12-15 yard shot, hit all three lungs and heart. the impact point had a massive blood spray probably like a 5 foot circles worth. excellent blood trail, however found my arrow on the ground with the blades closed...... so immediately im like, noooooo! i found him about 80yards away, and upon inspecting of heat and lungs, they literally looked like ground beef. even my little Jr. nearly punched through, just couldnt break the skin on the other side...... totally destroyed the brisket on the far side. but blown away by the amount of damage done on the inside.
Why did you keep shooting the field tip? Should of only needed to shoot it once.
Great video, very informative. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
You can use your finger now. With the sevrs to close them, buddy
battle axe is basically a fixed blade in flight. bare shaft that bow and i guarantee you have a big nock left going on. could just be torquing the bow hand too. that will cause big nock right or left on bare shafts.

Wish u would test on them CRICKETS!!!
Holy shit I thought I was tripping 😂
Yeah they are a pain. Especially when I hit record.
Was disappointed in the sevr after two kills with little penetration, swapped to the grim reaper’s and just shot a buck this week. It didn’t make it 40 yards and created an amazing blood trail. Will be stick with the grim reapers for a while!
NAP is the only choice for me. Been killing my deer for years.
Thanks dude
@tywarren9406 thanks for watching!
Grim reapers are LETHAL. Won’t use another broadhead again
@@chrisgarcia3271 hallway of a wound channel!
Can’t go wrong with a hybrid! You will always have a 2 blade cut.
Grim Reaper micro pro series hybrid! End of discussion!
Swhacker all the way
technically, what you're saying about penetration isn't correct given these factors.
Great video
Thanks for watching!
Funny how all the fixed blade guys are watching your video and come here to comment. It’s like they really want to be involved in the discussion. 😂 i had problems getting the Beast broadheads to stay closed in my quiver while walking around.
So far, only the SEVR 1.5 has passed ABF's testing. That says enough for me.
The old rage extreme chisel tip 2.3 with a red collar is still devastating the big bucks I shoot and the rage extreme chisel tip nc works well also…
I can't believe people are spending $84 for.the beast heads
I guess people are curious of new things and want to see how they do!
They’re $60 now.
@@joshuaphipps1009 well even they were 20 for 3 I still wouldn't buy em
I saw a dead winner it would have to be the dead meat it out penetrated the rest and it was dead on and accuracy and you have three blades instead of two and the Grim Reaper right there with it what do you mean you didn't see a clear winner
@@donwilson350 I wasn't judging the ballistics gel for penetration because of how dense it is. The other heads will perform differently in an animal than in that gel. Thanks for watching.
I used to use the Dead meats still would if im hunting from a blind or tree stand. The only thing I hated was if I was doing spot and stalk pronghorn and arrow was knocked the blades came undone from the collar multiple times once I didn’t notice and came to draw and it was hanging and couldn’t take the shot. Both pronghorns I shot went about 20 yards but I got tired of being worried about the blades coming undone.
@ryanlipkin6964 they sure are deadly. I have heard some complaints about mechanicals in general getting snagged on trees, branches, long grass etc. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
The beast never did fully open
@@forgerat due to the density of the ballistics gel.
I have one question why does every compound bow hunter wear the Fanny pack with binoculars your only shooting 30 to 40 yards you don’t need those your not looking at deer 359 yards away it’s close you really need a range finder not binoculars but yet every compound bow shooter wears them like it’s part of the entire to me it makes zero sense and looks silly
@EricBynog-zd4rd binoculars help you see exactly where you hit at any distance. 30 yards or 130 yards they are always nice to have.
@@cariboumediaoutdoors you can’t see where your arrow hits at 30 yards with bright yellow light or orange veins you need go get your eyes checked I still think compound bow hunters wear these binoculars as a fashion or part the compound bow dress heck I have seen guys wear them and never use them crazy
@EricBynog-zd4rd if you watched the video, you would see that I don't shoot orange or yellow fletchings. I shoot white ones that match the tape that's holding my target together. You do you Eric.
I tried to use a chest rig for shooting 3D tournaments but I didn’t like it one bit I just set my bunks down when I’m not using them but I don’t take binos hunting
@@cariboumediaoutdoors I get it it’s hard to think you may be not making sense but you said when you shoot 139 yards when have you ever shoot animal at that distance with bow I would just think a range finder would be more useful but it’s not just you it’s every compound bow hunter I see wears them and most on hunts I never see them use binoculars they pull out range finder out side pocket and use it but that’s it but have you ever used a crossbow try it buy a nice one it’s same as compound bow as far stand set up etc it just give you more power and range I use crossbow and love it
Sounds like a commercial for sever! Just a little biased in my opinion!
I'm not sure if you watched the entire video, but I speak about all of the broadheads equally. The Sevr and Beast need more explanation as they react to dense material. Some people see that as being defective which they are not. Thanks for watching.
Look up Dr. Ashby, no one has done more research than him . Speed is so overrated. FOC and a good sharp fixed blade will get you ultimate penetration always.
Dude you sound like a broken record he’s testing mechanicals ..
The not opening is because the bow is not fast enough to shoot them must be shooting at least 220fps to be consistent
@austinchandler6330 the bow I'm shooting is 285ft per second if not faster. That's not it.
