No they did not. They opened fairly well, but then closed a bit as they hit the gel. They were penalized in the scoring because of that. Yes. I have them and was about to test them, but then Josh was about to release the new titanium model, so I waited. Now I’m recovering from another surgery so it will be a while till I can do that, unfortunately.
Can you give your input on how Josh Bowmar shot his broadhead into a cinder block many times without it breaking. His concrete can’t be the same as yours or mine. Check out his video if you have a minute
Considering how sharp and how well the blades hold up I think the 15 pound spring is plenty to keep them open in an animal because the arrow isn’t gonna putt 15 pounds on force on the broad head if the total KE of the arrow is 65 - 75 pounds with that entire force being spread out along the entire cutting length / penetration. Wow love these !! I bet you don’t even need to shoot these into a target lol. One question did the blades stay open while it was going thru the gel? I know typical gator style heads don’t but since this is different with that spring I was curious. If so I’m a buyer !

Don’t walk barefoot in your yard with that extra blade floating around somewhere in the grass! I question whether I would want my blade to go around a bone versus blasting through it. Do you have a chart somewhere that compares all the models you have tested? Thanks.
Haha. True that. It's better than being in my basement like I was in Iowa. Sheesh. At the end of each year, I put out a Spread Sheet with all the scores of each head in that year. It's in the last vid of the year: Broadhead test Summary. You can see them for 2021 and 2022 on my channel.
I dont know if you just didnt show it correctly or what, but they didnt seemnto really "spring" back into place when you talked about them hitting bones
Only thing concern me is that the blades aren't locking at the open position, and its only tension is the 15lbs spring, which may not be enough spring tension to cut through thick hides and muscle tissues. Though I do have to say this may be the sharpest broadhead ever on your channel.
I think that’s fair my concern is the blades won’t stay open the whole time but if it averages 1.5 cut that’s still plenty to kill. The other thing is your arrow is probably impacting the animal with 60 pounds of force spread out over the entire length of penetration and 15 to stay open sounds pretty good to me considering how little force it takes to cut with these broad heads
Great broadhead videos! Wouldn't you think the stored energy in the spring would cause less penetration since it's opening in the opposite direction of the arrow? Opening that fast and if they contact anything somewhat hard (like a rib) then that much energy is pushing in the opposite direction of your arrow... Feel like that should be a negative bonus point?
The blades are deploying in the same direction that the arrow is moving. So it is not working against the forward momentum. And the thought is, that they do not take away from that forward momentum, like they do in other mechanical broadheads. They sure seemed to penetrate well.
What keeps the blades from closing when they go through the animal? All you have to do is apply slight pressure on both blades to close them? Something isn’t right about that.
I thought his review of this head seemed kinda biased. Or paid off. Big ole ding outta the blade in the durability test and he's like "it's in great shape" on the mdf, also didn't look like they opened. Then the apple test didn't even show the blade opening on an apple and got a "nice". I don't use mechanicals anyway, but this test just seemed a bit off of his normal standards. 🤷♂️
@@mm2_Arya all I can say is he’s generally pretty solid about testing broadheads. Maybe verbiage didn’t add up with what yours would have etc but he’s pretty consistent from videos to video. I’m surprised with 7075 aluminum that heads don’t get more bashing honestly. Grade 5 titanium seems to be the upper end of heads now days
I’ve got the sevr 2.0s to test as well. I’m not sold on this pivoting blade style honestly. I shot a very big 13 point recently and hit him very high. Middle of the body but very very high. Zero blood on the arrow. Thought it was merely a flesh wound. I shot him with a trypan. I found him dead 200 yards from where I shot him a few days later. I literally didn’t even look past 100 yards after I shot him bc the shot was so high. Never found a drop of blood anywhere till this day. One of the blades clipped his spine and awhile he was running I’m assuming his spine gave out and broke not allowing his back legs to work and he laid there and died. With a pivoting blade that deer never dies more than likely. It would pivot around the spine and be a flesh wound. When I say 1 inch higher and it may have missed him I might be exaggerating. The blades on the trypan had to have hit in a way wheee the could open vertically and one blade nicked the spine just enough. If I could post a picture on here of entry and exit there’s not a human alive that wouldn’t bet his house and say that deer never died.
My favorite expandable heads have been NAP Killzone (Huge Holes), Rocky Mountain Warhead SS (fly like Darts), and purchased some of the Max one knock off Range stainless heads due to these videos and been impressed. This head looks Nice but most expandable heads do the job if hit them in right spot. Thanks for Reveiw
I’m not disagreeing these look awesome. But for the value I can practice with the sevr, they are stronger, and way cheaper, I don’t need gloves to close them, and ultimately give the same cut. I look forward to see the gen of these. Josh is going to fix these issues im sure.
@@grant6608I agree. I bought the grip and it started coming off the riser after one round of shooting. Seemed like a very cheap product. I threw it away.
If I were to try a mechanical head this is probably it. The “ give “ action of the spring loaded blade as it slides over or through a rib is to me a great concept. $27.50 each is gonna scare a lot of people off buying these. ( like the cost of one meal out for two anymore) lol
I'm extremely surprised how sharp the blades actually are and how sharp they stayed after being used and I'm surprised how well it did through the the steel plate. I mean the concrete I guess kind of a given. But yeah I'm very impressed with this. Wasn't sure being from bowmars
Order of importance, 1. Flight accuracy. If it doesn't hit where you aim nothing else matters. 2. Lack of deflection. Saying on path through hide, bone and organs. 3.Penatration. Getting in deep and creating damage to vitals. 4. Sharpness. (For me is connected with penetration somewhat). Sharper = more blood=shorter track. 5. Durability. Not saying it isn't important, just not my top deciding factor. I will rarely use a head again after. Sevr, I'll replace blades, Magnus I'll hit with the stay sharp. 6.Price point per head. At $27.50 each, 54.99 for a 2-pack is a no for me. It's a nice head, but the deer can't tell If they were shot with a $27.50 Beast or a $15.99 Sevr 1.5. Love all your tests. Thanks for all you do for us hunters.
I’m not sure of a minimal poundage, but I think they would deploy out of pretty much any adult bow. They definitely deploy well when there is a taught medium like hide.
I’m not sure about them closing around bones like they say. As you tried to demonstrate in the video, they would only spring closed to go by a bone, when you pushed both blades at same time. When you pushed one at a time it did not look like they wanted to move. How often are you going to hit a bone on each blade? I suspect a decent amount of deflection if only one blade hits a bone. I’m not saying all other broadheads wont, but these guys are advertising theirs do…we’ll see i guess. I’ll have to take someone else’s word for it.
good somehow (sharpness, durability), but didn't the blades open at all when you shot the MDF? And what was the cutting diameter in the apple? You're hiding some of the results :--)
I don’t hide anything. I don’t care about the opening in MDF. It opened very well in the Apple. I don’t get anything from this company, so I tell it like it is, with the tests I perform.
A lot of people mentioning his name and saying not sure if it would be good josh bomar himself explains the stories that have been told against him i think He’s a genuine good ass guy and very intelligent in many facets I can’t wait to get a pack of these broadheads and glad you did this review appreciate the work and content i think these are going to change the broadhead market drastically for the good this is a home run not only for josh but the hunting industry itself
You know there are broadheads that already do this right? Spring loaded head also swiveling/pivoting blades...been done. And to think Josh Bowmar designed these is laughable.
@@wcb5890 really find me a broadhead that is spring loaded that gains energy when deployed and has independent blade movement to avoid bone sevr has blades that pivot but not independently like this i get it ur mad its okay
@@LuskArcheryAdventures yeah but you could show a few. I shot a 125 schwacker through mesh the other day and I was very surprised that it hit the bullseye at 20 yards. I have a crossbow though.
They say they can. However, since I’m now more familiar with crossbows, I know that there is no “standard” rating for crossbows. They not only vary greatly in speed, but also in the pressure put on the broadhead as they’re being shot. So in general, the answer to your question is Yes. But to be sure, you’d have to shoot them thru yours.
That spring crap is hilarious. Lamborghini springs lol. Any gun owner knows that magazine springs can stay compressed for decades without issue and they are cheap.
I'd like to see you add a score for price. Maybe "bang for the buck" Or something. Also for the mechanical heads maybe try a watermelon or pumpkin. They test heads very well.
I always list the score in the video description of every broadhead. But I've decided not to give a score based on price, because everyone's budget is so different.
I always want to practice with the exact Brodhead I hunt with. I don’t like any broadhead that I can’t shoot into my broadhead practice targets . I recall shooting the Zeus broadhead into my broadhead target and not being able to pull it out without pulling out the insert. This looks like maybe the same problem ? Way too many moving parts for me !
@@LuskArcheryAdventures the cons are hard to find. I try and shoot diffrent heads after each kill. The last 2 days I’ve taken 2 with the 1.5 Sevr. I’ve started giving heads away because I can’t find a reason to keep trying other heads. 1.5 seems the perfect balance for me. Not so big penetration is sacrificed and the blade deployment style creates a nice wound channel.
Really? That's kind of like say, "How many variations of bows do we need?" There quite a few significant differences between this and the Rage :) Both are 2 blade rear deploying mechs, but that's about it.
Great mechanical head. I’d change to Titanium tip and ferrule, a larger diameter pivot pin and .070 stainless blades with a 200 gr weight for the higher F.O.C. It would be indestructible and capable of handling large game such as elk and moose ethically.
I'm a no on this head. I noticed the wobble on impact which would hinder penetration somewhat. Josh is stud and pulls about 90 lbs which may be what is needed for a pass through which i personally prefer.
i do not predict good things to come from this one. i don't understand how the blades lock/stay open, we shall soon see. the ferrules look beefy enough but everything else has me wondering. 😀
I am guessing the blades are independently compressible like the VIP heads. It would be awesome if someone could figure out how to get reliable deployment with that style of head. My fear with the bowmar head is that it will lock itself closed after passing through a scapula or through the middle of a rib. We shall see as they say.
I’ll stick with my NaP Ti 2 bladed sling blade with a free floating 2 3/16” cut. No springs, o rings, mechanical, or rubber bands to use or fail. They were on sale at Midway USA for $22 per 3 pack. Simple, effective, and cheap. The aluminum ferril for almost $20 a head? Ouch.
i will take a hard pass on that one, the blades don't lock or stay open, just as i expected, its pretty much a gator style head. I'd bet the blades were forced closed in the gel, and layered cardboard test, just like they were in the steel. Then we come to find out that the ferrule is much more hollow than it looks from the outside, because they have to stuff a spring and the other little fidgety parts inside of it.
The whole point is for it to not stay locked open so it can go through/around bone instead of redirecting it or stopping it. He’s killed Cape buffalo with these. Any animal in North America will be killed by these no doubt
That's a tough mechanical. Pins held the blades well. The blades didn't get pushed back like most mechanicals. Josh hit a home run with this one if you want a mechanical head.
I’ve been waiting to actually see these tested by a third party. I don’t like mechanicals and I’m not a fan of Bowmars, so I don’t have high expectations. However, if they work, they work. I’m not the kind of guy to dismiss a product, good, or art because I don’t like the artist/designer. My prediction is they are at the normal industry accepted sharpness for a mechanical, they probably won’t hold their edge as well as fixed blades, and they’ll be destroyed in the cinder block. I imagine the ferrule will do fine in the mdf and steel sheet, but the edges will look like crap after the steel. Penetration will probably be what we all expect from mechanicals. But let’s see. And here we go. lol. Lawsuits inbound
@@progradepainting3755so I said I wasn’t a fan and didn’t really like them. I never said they were bad people or I hated them. What I do not like about the Bowmars are a couple things. First, anytime people talk crap about them or their products they are quick to send legal cease and desist letters. If someone is talking smack, just ignore or even have a conversation about it and move on. Why threaten to or sue? Second: Josh Bowmar did commit wildlife violations to some degree in the semi-recent deal out west. I would not call him a poacher. I don’t think he violated fair chase, but he was definitely flirting with it and he did violate other hunting laws. Such as the suppressor on the firearm while recovering the Mulie. I don’t think he shot the buck with a suppressed rifle, it’s on video him shooting it with a bow. However, it’s also on video of him recovering it with his guide, who was armed with a suppressed rifle slung on his back. In my opinion, Josh and Sarah were guilty of violating multiple minor laws through ignorance of the law. I don’t believe they were intentionally violating the law, but they should have researched better. At the end of it, the only responsibility he took was “guide bad, we didn’t know. Maybe we should have, but we didn’t.” Third: Josh cannot accept criticism of any kind from the public. He routinely deletes comments that are not entirely positive. I’ve seen one of mine deleted, where I commented about a long shot on an alert bull elk where he struck it in the back ham. He clearly had to make a follow up shot, the arrow was still in the ham and if I remember correctly, there was signs of a second shot on the chest cavity. I commented about “nice bull, but” maybe don’t take a shot at 80+ on an alert bull in the future. I wasn’t scathing or mean, offensive, or calling anyone names. I pointed out out the selective editing, the not speaking about when he hit, etc, but I wasn’t mean. Other hunting channels take their failures and are transparent. That’s where I believe we ought to be. Like I said. Not a fan. But I don’t think he’s the worst thing in our community and I wouldn’t be opposed to sharing a hunting camp with him. I just wouldn’t seek it out. Also, I would tell him this to his face. Because again, I don’t think he’s evil or anything, but I think he has a lack of taking responsibility and is very aggressive when it comes to his image.
@@progradepainting3755lol sorry I have an opinion that differs from yours. Btw, just watched the review. I’ll have to go check penetration depth in cardboard to other mechanicals and sharpness, but otherwise just like I predicted. Ferrule blew up on concrete, edges were noticeably damaged on steel plate. While it looks like a good mechanical, it obviously ain’t the best thing since sliced bread like it’s advertised.
That is total marketing. Springs can stay in it’s compressed position as long as they want. Springs wear out from cyclic loading, not from static compression. *We learn this early concept in engineering school.

Haha.
Yeah, that's what it does. It is hard to show that in a video.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Bowmar shot a 8,000 pound hippo with the 125 grain and it was completely fine
Agreed. I’d want the blades to remain open to cut through whatever it encounters.
It takes quite a bit of pressure to close the blades. When they're that sharp, they cut tissue much more readily than the tissue closes the blade.
Thank you
The broadhead testing GOAT
:) Thank you
I’m not disagreeing these look awesome. But for the value I can practice with the sevr, they are stronger, and way cheaper, I don’t need gloves to close them, and ultimately give the same cut. I look forward to see the gen of these. Josh is going to fix these issues im sure.
Thanks for the comment
The hate for Bowmar by the internet dweebs is so fervent it makes me want to buy these, lol.
Me too. I’ve used his nose button and string twist adjustment device with awesome results, as well as his bow grips.
Nose button is good stuff...the grip is 🗑
@@grant6608I agree. I bought the grip and it started coming off the riser after one round of shooting. Seemed like a very cheap product. I threw it away.
@@grant6608it depends how you rap it. Because my last two bows have had the raps and the one now I've had on for 2years and it's fine just faded
Not wanting to support poachers who poached for content makes us dweebs? 😂
If I were to try a mechanical head this is probably it. The “ give “ action of the spring loaded blade as it slides over or through a rib is to me a great concept. $27.50 each is gonna scare a lot of people off buying these. ( like the cost of one meal out for two anymore) lol
Yes I agree, at that price for mechanicals I will stick with Sevr.
The Zeus and Hera heads by Zeus have a similar feature...but they're fixed heads. These are not for everyone's budget :)
Where the heck are you going out for $27.50!? Haha. I can’t go out to dinner with my wife and 5 year old for less than $100+ after tip
Would love to see this go through the _Paul Harrell Meat Target!_
:)
Nice review pondering a purchase
They're coming out with a titanium ferrule model soon.
I'm extremely surprised how sharp the blades actually are and how sharp they stayed after being used and I'm surprised how well it did through the the steel plate. I mean the concrete I guess kind of a given. But yeah I'm very impressed with this. Wasn't sure being from bowmars
Yeah, I wasn't sure how they'd do either.
The poaching bowmars
Order of importance,
Thanks for sharing all that.
When are we going to see a review on the new g5 T2?
I ordered them months ago. Hope I will get them soon.
Spins a tiny piece of the broadhead lol. Great video
Haha. Gotta spin something :)
I'll be curious how the blood trails are with these
They'd be as good as a 2" hole can make :) All depends on where you hit them.
Curious as to what minimal poundage it would take for full deployment?
Well, one blade can retract. It just takes pressing both in order to close them fully.
good somehow (sharpness, durability), but didn't the blades open at all when you shot the MDF? And what was the cutting diameter in the apple? You're hiding some of the results :--)
I don’t hide anything. I don’t care about the opening in MDF. It opened very well in the Apple. I don’t get anything from this company, so I tell it like it is, with the tests I perform.
Also, cinder blocks are not concrete ?
They are a form of concrete.
Love your videos 🦌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you!
What do you think about the beast on a crossbow?
I think it would be a great choice.
Thank you
You know there are broadheads that already do this right? Spring loaded head also swiveling/pivoting blades...been done. And to think Josh Bowmar designed these is laughable.
@@wcb5890 really find me a broadhead that is spring loaded that gains energy when deployed and has independent blade movement to avoid bone sevr has blades that pivot but not independently like this i get it ur mad its okay
When can I buy some?
They are available now; they release more inventory each week. Just Google Beast broadhead and check them out on their site.
Are these head crossbow compatible?
Yes.
John. Do you think it will open consistently on animals?
Yes, I do.
Curved blades make it impossible to sharpen with my stay sharp guide. Love rear deploy broadheads...
Yeah, Stay Sharp doesn't work on narrow mech blades like this anyway. You can use a pull thru type sharpener.
You should do vids on mechanicals through blind mesh.
There are only a few mechs I’d shoot thru mesh.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures yeah but you could show a few. I shot a 125 schwacker through mesh the other day and I was very surprised that it hit the bullseye at 20 yards. I have a crossbow though.
Can these be used with high speed crossbows?
They say they can. However, since I’m now more familiar with crossbows, I know that there is no “standard” rating for crossbows. They not only vary greatly in speed, but also in the pressure put on the broadhead as they’re being shot. So in general, the answer to your question is Yes. But to be sure, you’d have to shoot them thru yours.
Thank you.@@LuskArcheryAdventures
The spring system looks to be really similar to the way the Veteran and Combat Veteran heads work.
Yes. Similar.
So it’s a crappier sevR?
:)
Are they crossbow friendly?
Yep.
That spring crap is hilarious. Lamborghini springs lol. Any gun owner knows that magazine springs can stay compressed for decades without issue and they are cheap.
:) Just passing on info :)
Yeah getting some of those
Cool
The problem is they do not offer replacement blades. I wouldn't have purchased such an expensive broadhead if I had known blades weren't available.
That’s a good point. I just texted Josh to see if they will ever have replacement blades.
Looks like the same tip that the Zeus broadheads use wonder if he collaborated with Nick Albanese on these
I don't believe they did.
would have like to have seen the wound channel in the gel? Did the blades stay open? Can't tell from the angle in the video
Not completely; they don’t lock open and gel tends to keep the blades of many mechs from staying fully open
DAVID HOUSER
Head Engineer at Bowmar Archery
Thanks for sharing that.
Well I pulled one out of a target about 5-6 times.
That stored energy is not gaining energy. It is opposing the momentum of the arrow.
Well, yes, but that opposing momentum of the arrow is due to cutting the tissue very effectively.
How would you compare them to the titanium 2.0 sevr.great video
They don’t. The Sevr is the standard in Mechanicals. Sevr came out the concrete like new.
@deanbrantley yeah but we aren't shooting concrete animals so I don't get the concrete arguement lol
@@bradleyburton2664 I agree. For me I’ll shoot the indestructible head that’s $10 cheaper.
The Sevrs are quite a bit more durable, that's for sure. But beyond that, there are pros & cons to both of them.
How many variations of the rage do we need?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
He killed Cape buffalo with these
I'm a no on this head. I noticed the wobble on impact which would hinder penetration somewhat. Josh is stud and pulls about 90 lbs which may be what is needed for a pass through which i personally prefer.
Ok
Oh lord
:)
been waiting on this one. But my hopes arent high with it.
:)
Well, I was definitely surprised how impressive it was. I just ordered a pack!! 😊😊
Faster than the speed of sound….wouldn’t it have a sonic boom?
Well, I guess a mini one if there is no resistance...like a towel snapping.
Looks like a great mechanical head maybe on par with the sevr, only negative is the price, ouch!
Thanks for commenting
So its a Volkswagen spring
:)
i do not predict good things to come from this one. i don't understand how the blades lock/stay open, we shall soon see. the ferrules look beefy enough but everything else has me wondering. 😀
I am guessing the blades are independently compressible like the VIP heads. It would be awesome if someone could figure out how to get reliable deployment with that style of head. My fear with the bowmar head is that it will lock itself closed after passing through a scapula or through the middle of a rib. We shall see as they say.
I think they’re going to perform well.
Have you not seen the Cape buffalo bowmar has shot with these heads? I’d say they’re doing pretty well
Just like most other mechanicals. 🤷🏻♂️
@@MrNubeTubelink?
I’ll stick with my NaP Ti 2 bladed sling blade with a free floating 2 3/16” cut. No springs, o rings, mechanical, or rubber bands to use or fail. They were on sale at Midway USA for $22 per 3 pack. Simple, effective, and cheap. The aluminum ferril for almost $20 a head? Ouch.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have a test of the NAP TI 3 coming out soon.
i will take a hard pass on that one, the blades don't lock or stay open, just as i expected, its pretty much a gator style head. I'd bet the blades were forced closed in the gel, and layered cardboard test, just like they were in the steel. Then we come to find out that the ferrule is much more hollow than it looks from the outside, because they have to stuff a spring and the other little fidgety parts inside of it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
The whole point is for it to not stay locked open so it can go through/around bone instead of redirecting it or stopping it. He’s killed Cape buffalo with these. Any animal in North America will be killed by these no doubt
well no, the blades were frozen haha too be sharpened * as the people themselves say but you wouldn't believe them would you?
That's a tough mechanical. Pins held the blades well. The blades didn't get pushed back like most mechanicals. Josh hit a home run with this one if you want a mechanical head.
Thanks for the comment Mike.
Didn’t surpass the reigning champ Sevr
Uhhh... yeah it did. Lol
Hard to beat the durability of a Sevr.
I bet they perform great, and the bowmars are awesome people. You’re just another keyboard cowboy who wouldn’t say a thing face to face with him.
Maybe we should have, but we didn’t.”
Third: Josh cannot accept criticism of any kind from the public.
@@officerfoxtrot3633 blah blah blah
@@progradepainting3755lol sorry I have an opinion that differs from yours.
Btw, just watched the review. I’ll have to go check penetration depth in cardboard to other mechanicals and sharpness, but otherwise just like I predicted.
Ferrule blew up on concrete, edges were noticeably damaged on steel plate.
While it looks like a good mechanical, it obviously ain’t the best thing since sliced bread like it’s advertised.
