- We choose four things each for a wedding gig - will we get hired again?!
Welcome to the show! A bit of fun today, so please don’t take it too seriously. We’ve had a number of TPS viewers suggest this show. We have to choose four things: something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue in order to cover a wedding gig. During the show we’re presented with a number of challenges that we need to, erm, ‘complete’. We’re not entirely sure we’d get hired again based on these performances but at least the tones were, er, loud.
Daniel and Mick, do you take this rig to be by your side?
We do!
Enjoy the show!

Watching Dan use a butter knife as a screwdriver and then grab a spaghetti like handful of wires from a draw makes me happy to finally have something in common with him ! 🤣
Ditto!
Draw?

This was a real treat to watch 😁
I played about ~150 weddings since 1973 and this was spot on. Even in Germany they ask for other songs like "Jalousie" tango etc.
Btw. Mick:
I answered the question for the worst gig "Playing on the wrong wedding" and yes there were 2 guesthouses in the village, both had a wedding. We stopped at the first pub we saw and ask if there is a weeding...and yes it was.
So we set our stuff up, got dinner and drinks and started to play quietly during dinner time.
The brides father thought the grooms father has booked us and vice versa 🤣
So it went on with dance till about 11 pm they realized nobody booked a live band.
So belive it or not, we went to the "real" wedding and talked to them, they were upset first but we straightened it out, packed our stuff and played till 6am for free at the correct place.
Hahaha! Amazeballs!
You win!! Best wedding gig story EVER! HAHA!
Mick: "It's too much gain, mate"
Also Mick: plays Eruption for bride's walk down the aisle 😂
It’s about what’s appropriate for the job. If Dan is going to desecrate the memory of Chuck Berry with too much overdrive… aregghhh.
But Sweet Jayne down the aisle to her doom. Needs DISTORTION
@@ThatPedalShow Perhaps you can play eruption in the couples bedroom on the wedding night.
My favourite moment is Mick saying “When we are playing What’s the Frequency Kenneth” at a wedding! Made me laugh out loud 😅😅😅
As a man who has played many a wedding, this is worryingly accurate 😂!
Mick's face, when Dan says "Collider is green, not blue", is priceless 😂
It is, I think I am with Dan though!!!
Yeah, It's green to me too. Maybe Mick is the one who's colorblind 😉
Dan: Goes ‘jazz odyssey’ on the wedding march.
Bride: “I don’t” 🤣🤣🤣🤣😀
A classic TPS episode, hilariously funny and yet at the same time nicely informative. Had me in stitches all the way through!
Ah man, that’s awesome: thank you.
Mick playing an Enter Sandman pastiche whilst wearing a fez. My life is complete! 😂
First, thank you both so much for everything you do for our community.
Second, Cheers! to Dan for the G&L ASAT!
A cross between magicians and cooks to produce those magic and tasty sounds. Shows what ears, knowledge and taste you both have.
Thanks Paul. Not sure if this is a joke, but if it isn’t, thank you!
Brilliant episode fellas! Thank you for what you do. You made me smile multiple times today.
Guys- I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this! I have played in a wedding band for years, I do it for fun and love my gear. Brilliant fun entertaining episode.
Thank you!
Between Mick's pickup rage last week, and Dan's knife screwdriver/box of 'stuff' this week, I finally felt represented on TPS!
Hahaha!
If they made a video where they ran out of time for actual playing and spent 45 minutes looking for a missing guitar strap, I wouldn’t need to do anything
Easily one of the top episodes of TPS ever. I love the focus on in-the-moment variability combined with real constraints on gear. Keep it up!
LOVE these challenges!!!!! Thanks for reminding me that a good slapjack delay and overdrive pedal can get me through. Great job patas!!!!
😂 i love Dan even more now-the master of undercutting a compliment. “You would absolutely get away with it…. like I’m getting away with this hat.”
That G&L into the vox sounds really, really good.
Great challenge - love these. it's all about the context and extra band considerations. nice harmony at the end 🤘🤘
Awesome episode, so much fun and you both were clearly enjoying the challenge. More please
This is an amazing video! Really appreciate all that you do.
The two of you are such brilliant players, hilarious, and fun that I could watch your videos and just listen to you play. The fact that you bring so much knowledge and continue to teach me so much about how stuff works is just amazing. Then on top of that you made a killer T-Shirt (All you need is fuzz) and I had to order it. My only regret is that I didnt find your channel years ago. Thank you Dan and Mick so much for your invaluable knowledge that you choose to use your time on teaching all of us.
Ah mate, thanks so much 🙏
Great show, loads of fun! Thanks!!!
That was so fun to watch, and at the same time, lots of knowledge there! I really love challenges, and the extra stages with the “ challenge airlines” was just brilliant. Love you, guys! 🤘🏻
You guys are always entertaining, but this is one of the funniest episodes I've seen in a long time. It's been a long week and I needed this. Thanks. 🙂
Mick wearing a fez and playing enter sandman in major plus the tapping in the solo was pure gold. Extra props for the dive bomb for the bride
Absolutely loving these Top Gear-esque ridiculous challenges, hope to see more in the future, great stuff!
Sometimes, their genius... it generates gravity...
Genius idea. Looking forward to watching the episode!
Finally seeing a vid of pedals being actually put into practical musical use on the fly by pro musos (ie dialing in specific song sounds) has been very educational & inspiring. Great episode guys! 👍🏻
Also, loving the copyright dodging techniques employed 😂
Very good chaps - put a smile on my face
I love the behind the scenes look we get from these type videos. I have to say - I know you've acquired them over a matter of years - but the actual number of pedals you have is really something!
Frightening isn't it. This is about two fifths of them, the rest in storage.
This was fantastic you guys! Good innocent humour combined with a degree of anxiety and real life quest for mediocrity. So much laughing out loud! Thank you!!
Happy you guys are making it official, took you long enough!
I want more of D&M playing together in stereo! That was wonderful. Well done, gents!
This needs to go down as one of the most entertaining videos in your channels history. The copyright safe riffs needs to be a challenge in itself! I'd love to be in a covers band doing weddings and the like so this is right up my alley.
I’m glad to see a G&L on the show! I love those guitars! And I love the headstock even though lots of people hate it 😊
Same! my nr.1 is a G&L S500 (strat with MFD's). It can do anything, really stable trem and is dead silent.
The challenge videos are always fun!
Great challenge guys! Enjoyed this one
Also, the outro "Here comes the bride" was excellent!!
I love these videos. Well done, boys.
Killer episode!! love it when you guys throw some boards together with random bits of gear
Epic, absolutely hilarious and flippin' extraodinary content. Love you guys
Awesome video this week fellas. A great reminder that it’s not so much about the precise tone, but playing a tune and having a good time👍
Bingo! We’re big believers in that!
Awesome! Thanks again TPS!
Good shout on the ASAT special. I have one of those and I love it.
What a fantastic Friday afternoon treat this was, brilliant fun lads 😄
Really entertaining show guys thank you so much, omg major sandman broke me 😆😄 have a great weekend
Everytime Dan hits a muted slap with the Memory Man on, I'm yelling "Beetlebum!" at the screen! Great video chaps, really enjoyed this - great fun. But I now need a Cogmeister! 🙈
Brilliant, educational, and hilarious in equal amounts.
Challenge awesomeness... I needed this today. Great idea...its funny I always put the collider with the teraform as well ever since you guys had them both on a picknmix.
the Vox, bridge pickup and the MM is the sound of god, as far as clean tones go for me. Even though it was a very short sound bite, just the way those top strings sounded, my god. So good.
That “I DON’T!!” Made me laugh way harder than it should have hahaha good one Mick 😂
Thanks guys lots of fun. Pre playing I thought Dan had no chance, how wrong was I. Effective gain staging and a delay, so versatile. I was thinking there would be less rock and more funk though, just didn't account for the father of the bride. :)
Amazing Tones Today , Gents . ! Love the challenges.
Thanks for making my day guys♥️
I don't even know where to start about how awesome this is! Wow, I never thought I'd hear: "too much gain", but it's so true! Epic, fellas - and hilarious will so very on the spot!
Have to admit.....way more fun than I thought this was going to be. Good work!
This was super fun, love the challenge shows!
As someone who just put together their first “real” Pedalboard, I felt like I was in a challenge like this! 😂 I told myself 8 or less, and I felt like I had a million constraints to choose just that many! 😂 great video!!!
I know the feeling ... particularly when you have half a dozen drive stages and three fantastic reverbs that all do something special (and different from each other) ... it's *so* tempting to say "put them all on, and I'll use a switcher" or even "put them all on, and I'll only switch on the one I want" ... and then end up with a pedal board the size of a front door!
Dan, Mick...you guys always crack me up and teach me new things about guitar and how it can sound. Love the channel, love this video. Cheers!
Thank you Peter! Glad there’s something useful to pick out here!
Great rigs. Both are great. Dan's was such a simple but very effective rig which is what I'm accustomed too. Mick's is really cool too and very versatile.. He definitely knows his tones.
This was a lot of fun to watch. Thanks for the entertainment on an otherwise boring Monday morning at work.
Brilliant end section. You made me happy
Best Challenge Video yet! I have a friend who is a wedding DJ and has stories of the dads and brothers of the couple being honored just paying to hear Metallica songs haha. Also a show on 50s Rock and Roll tones would be cool. Lots of great players often overlooked.
You guys really are the best!
Great show as usual lads. I'm in love with that Cutler Panama guitar 🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸 Oh man it has some sweet tones 🤘 you guys need to feature that guitar more on the show 😁
Agreed that blue Cutler sounded super !
One of the most fun challenges. Both are winners!
I must say this.. Ilove you guys Great music - great video - you've made my day ! :)
You boys are playing my wedding. Consider yourselves booked! Ultimate wedding band rig Strat, Hot Rod Deluxe, a boost and a tube screamer.
Man, Mick!!That guitar sounds really great.!! I was especially impressed during the 40 minute plus section.
Very entertaining and informative, as always.
In stitches so many times during this video, spot on!! Something to re-watch while eating my stale sandwich after arriving for a wedding gig at 1pm 🤣 Great to see Dean’s guitar too!
Absolutely! It was scarily close to my years doing bl**dy weddings!! HAHA!
Off the cuff wedding marches were epic, well done chaps 👏👏👏
Super fun show guys!
Ladies and gentleman.... "Flat Pete and The Fez of Truth"!! I enjoyed this so much.Great work!!!
That G&L Tele sounds absolutely glorious.
When you guys have fun, we have fun. Excellent.
Great show as always! Another idea for a pedalboard challenge is to make a pedalboard with different priced pedals. Like 1 cheap, 1 mid-priced, and 1 expensive. See who can create the best sounds with those limitations.
D&M - this was one of the most entertaining vids you guys have ever created! I smiled and laughed from start to finish….and learned a bunch, too! Bravo!!
PS: Dan - who needs those expensive, poorly packaged hats when you can sport the flat cap?
Dan! I absolutely LOVE my G&L ASAT Special! Great choice.
Running the volume and tone knobs at about 50 to 70 percent sounds like heaven, then you roll it full wide open to giv'er hell.
Pristine cleans, and a growl to die for.
Seriously under rated guitars/pickups (the jumbo single-coil Magnetic Field Design pickups).
one of my favourite episodes, good fun!!
I really enjoyed this episode! It goes to show that sometimes you only need a couple of pedals on a board and you’re all set for a gig👌
I also did not know about Morton boards and how you can pull them apart. Very handy 👍🏼
Dan's "off-piste Pete" look at the end killed me. Legend.
My ‘91 G&L ASAT III (MiniH-S-S) may be my favorite guitar (and I own many). It’s an honest axe that rewards time/effort put in. Fun vid. Thanks 🤙
The enter sandman riff was brilliant 🤩
Congrats to the happy couple!
Very entertaining you clowns!! Plenty of giggling in this episode.
Dan, fellow Dan here, the Collider looks greenish to me too. But, there's enough blue in there I wouldn't fuss. Great idea for a challenge.
Definitely looks more green than blue on my screen, at least. Have never seen one in "person"
Literally just got in at 1am this morning from playing at a wedding in the middle of nowhere. Setup was 1:30pm sharp lol. Happy people made it all worth while though. That and getting to watch the absolute carnage unfold as the night went on 🤣
I love this channel. 👍👍👍
Can’t imagine how many orders Cutler has gotten from leaving this guitar with TPS. Spectacular sounding thing
An Awesome one😀 thanks for 👍
Dan! You pull off the ball cap very well. Like a J Mascis who finally accepted the end of his flowing locks but still never grew up too much.
We definitely need more of you two trying to play songs whilst avoiding copyright strikes 😂 that's absolutely fantastic!
Loved this video! Enter sandman in major sounds like it could be a Soundgarden song haha.
Love that Cutler guitar - clean sounds are amazing for humbuckers.
Bare Knuckle Mules I believe…. Cheers!
Super interesting how your choices for each category paralleled each other so closely
Realy enjoyed the spontanious cover challenges :) The "gettign away with it" challenge could be a cool future episode - the hats would be a must though...
Great videos!
Mick always sounds ace with that blue guitar ! Killer episode !
Seeing the box of small devices and tangled cords makes me feel better about my own such boxes. 😄
