  • Time for a bit of fun with a food-inspired pedalboard
Welcome to the show! Somewhere amid the deeply serious work of tone exploration, we do, on occasion, feel the need for a bit of levity. Thusly, every now and again there will be a little challenge theme just for the , erm, halibut.
Anyway, so today’s challenge is to put together a pedalboard capable of a nice wide variety of tones… albeit inspired by the dishes in a three-course meal.
So, waiter, will there a be a fly-board in my soup? Let’s find out…
    Enjoy the show!

No-one is worse than Mick at hiding his disenchantment at amp tone. Dan is always overly effusive about every amp (or indeed pedal) that crosses his path, until the bubble pops. Mick just gets progressively more miserable - unless he's hearing 106db of clean headroom - until defaulting to down-turned mouth pentatonic hand flapping. I love this channel.

If you’re concerned about the dual lock damaging the finish on the bottom of your pedal, I take off the bottom plate and run strips of gaffer tape across the base of the pedal. Then I put the velcro onto the tape. If you wrap the tape over the lip of the plate a bit, the mechanical pressure of the case against the lid will help keep the gaffer tape solidly in place when pulling the pedal off the board. If you ever want to remove the velcro, the gaffer tape will come off clean without damaging the finish. (It can pull off stickers like serial numbers, though.)

Great show, as ever. I have a suggestion for another challenge: both of you pick three famous persons (author, scientist, athlete...) whom both of you know. Then you'd have to pick one person each and build yourselves a pedalboard with which you then compose a track, that resembles/resonates with that person or person's achievements.

It’s always fascinating to see how each of you is inspired to approach the challenge from different directions,
how you both are genuinely giddy anticipating the other’s reaction to your choices,
and even when something doesn’t work as expected, we all learn something valuable.

Great episode, loved it. I think, all that Mick played was very good and very tasty, I think, when he hear it back, he will be less grumpy about the lack of headroom.
Interesting thing, the Delay Llama is analog delay, but sounds almost exactly the same as my TRex Replicator Jr 😲

Fun challenge. I thought it said "3 Course Metal Challenge" when I first read it. This makes more sense!

I see the PRS Mira and Dan's white Tele in the background and can't help but thinking that they could use some love!

LOL. Love the theme and the tones. My clean rig starts with a Cheeky Pint and ends with a Sweet Cream. What happens in between is as classified as my mum's Christmas cake recipe. (It's Blackstar Boost, tc electronic Spark, and JHS Space Commander.) Just soak everything with brandy for a couple of months before. Oh, that was cake advice; do not do this to your pedals.

“I love a bit of Llama in my Jam Roly Poly”😂😂😂
Seriously though, I thought about an Indian themed restaurant - “Murray’s Curries” featuring Tuna Bhuna, Kangaroo Vindaloo, that sort of thing….
    Great episode chaps. ❤
