Brilliant the relationship between the guitar and amp at those levels. Regal, indeed (fitting today’s theme).

In the mid-late 70’s, I was messing with a Les Paul and my silverface Princeton at home, and decided to send the secondary output of my first-gen Deluxe Memory Man out to one side of the stereo. When you split the Memory Man and turned on the modulation, there was no “swirl” happening inside the pedal- you just got the unaffected sound on one output, and the pitch-shifted sound on the other. That meant that the chorus effect was created acoustically in the room as they blended. As the slowly modulated direct signal from one of my Klipsch corner horns mixed with the slightly-pushed Princeton, it literally made it feel like I was being physically pulled back and forth between the two sources. Mesmerizing…

If I remember correctly, the swell function plays back "repeats" from each head. So if you engage the swell but have no playback heads selected you will only hear those four singular "repeats." When you engage one or more of the playback heads those four "repeats" will playback through those heads. IOW swell mode is kinda like turning on all four heads in repeat mode.

This episode was in parts hilarious and in parts genuinely informative. Mick's reaction to the unveiling (can I say that) of the Electric Mistress was priceless. The age old punishment of deportation! On a serious note, Dan's lesson on pedal gain and amp volume really hit home. I'm forever believing I'm setting pedals to a unity volume with respect to each other and then (not often but sometimes) changing the volume on one of two vastly different amps. Absolutely nothing is the same. Reminded me that while hearing new and innovative pedals is always cool, an element of TPS trouble shooting concepts is invaluable. Thanks, guys.

Hey Mick! I think the reason you were having problems with the Boonar before this video was because even though the buffered mode was on, you had it in a true bypass looper. Every time you switched to that loop, no matter if the pedal was on or bypassed the phase would flip. In this video, because it’s not in a loop, the Boonar has a constant phase flip, allowing the humdinger to compensate. I hope this explanation makes sense!

    • @ThatPedalShow

I will start with my tc electronic Arena reverb, and the "Royal" patch, which is a cathedral algorithm intended to evoke Westminster Abbey. For an amp, a Mesa/Boogie Road King. I'll choose the tc electronic Corona chorus ("corona" means "crown" in Latin, perfect for a coronation chorus). For a boost, the Hamstead Ascent (because HM is ascending to the throne). And for a guitar, the Mayones Regius (Latin, "of or pertaining to a king"). That's five items.

It just occurred to me. In all the videos I’ve watched I have seldom seen you two play together. It might be a new innovation for the channel.

We do it sometimes. But me and Dan jamming is pretty horrible. We have very different harmonic expectation. Hahaha. And our timing meters are totally different. Add bass and drums and it gets much better!

Fantastic show guys! Made me laugh with Dan's choices. Cheers from the States across the pond.
