Surf Simply Tutorials: Leading Arm

  • It's all about what to do with your hands. Your trailing arm usually minds its own business and gets on with the job of surfing but your leading arm is like a naughty child and just won't do what it's told. It's often taught incorrectly but getting your leading arm in the right place will make you surf better (and looks so much more elegant).

Bloody brilliant - leading hand behind heel rail. Done. 100% best lesson ever for hand/upper body position.

Great video. comprehensive and concise. I wish I came across it way earlier)) If you ever get to redo it, I’d suggest mentioning Caroline Marks as perfect example of correct arms placement. There are certainly other good ones, but IMHO, she’s the most prominent and consistent.

jesus christ!!! now i know what im doing wrong. tried it today and my pop up just became perfect. I can now ride waves longer because of this video. Thats why i keep on falling on one side because i have a habit of putting both arms on the same side..

Awsome videos! thanks a lot for the tips, but it looks like some of the podcasts are missing, for example part 3 and 5, and some others, is there any podcast in which you teach how to stand up?
These are the best surf "classes" I've ever had.

Just got back from 4-5 ft walls
Last wave i carved so hard with my hand doing exactly this
The beauty of it is once you finish the move you still have your speed and footing to transition effortlessly to the next section

Does leading arm outside the heelside rail also apply to forehand bottom turns and backhand top turns?
