I appreciate the way you two communicate with each other - it’s so respectful and caring. I’m sure living in a small space can magnify disagreements when they happen, but you guys are a true team. It’s great to see this (on top of all of the other cool things you are doing).

Place a good tarp in the bed before filling with gravel
Then once tailgate is down remove it.
Shovel rock. Then grab tarp to clean out the bed.
I like your rain water collection roof.
Word of experience on your driveway. Layer of cover sheet. Otherwise rock will sink.

Doing good guys. One day at a time. It always pays to do it right. One thing I would do is make it a way to drain off the water that yoou use when ya wash your roof. Keep the roof clean and the water will be less trouble to clean. I also would use metal roofing as the fibers in the fiberglass start to decompose in years to come it could become a health hazard. Filters.

Don’t want to catch a vehicle on it !

I still remember how much work it was setting up my homestead. It's the most rewarding thing I've ever done also. We have some cold winters up in the TN mountains though. So we had to bury the water tanks. It's awesome watching you two accomplish so much with only the two of you! Can't wait to watch more progress.

Helpful hint - whenever hauling sand/gravel/brush, get a HD tarp big enough to line your truck bed and go over sides, line the bed with it, leaving the longest tail at the tailgate end. When unloading, it won't get stuck in the gap between bed floor and tailgate, and toward the end of the load you can pull the tarp and spill over into the wheelbarrow, cleaning the bed easily. This tarp will also be your best friend when used the same way to refill a hole you just dug, or when moving a huge pile of brush along the ground or out of the truck bed. No point in loading and unloading when you don't have to.
    Work smarter, not harder!
    Have fun! Lynn

I have a suggestion unless I’m too late and you’ve already done it.
Connect the tanks in series, put your water in one end and take your supply off the other end. That way you ensure water circulation through all four tanks and there is less chance of it being left stagnant. Hope that helps you guys. Good luck 😉

Don't worry about being late in the rainy season this year, or not being able to fill them. Simply get some temporary massive tarps, lay them on both sides of the roof, triple the production. Then next year you can adjust the system as needed. I wish Shannon and I were still there, we could help you. We spent 15 days in Boquete, just came back. Exploritory trip. I plan to build a couple of aircrete dome homes. Aircrete is amazing!!! Way better than concrete.

Remember guys dry season starts end of Nov and ends towards the end of April. Little to no rain in the dry season so you need to rethink water sources. If 2,000 gallons will last 5 months that means 13 gals/day. Think alternatives like a well, cistern etc. but since you are on high ground a well is unlikely. Perhaps then a nearby stream or aqueduct. If people knew exactly where your land is maybe someone might have some good ideas on an alternative water source. Trust me if you start washing clothes the water will disappear very quickly. Water will be a big problem. Do your homework. You also need power and a pump. I admire your tenacity but to build on land with no power lines or water lines presents a lot of challenges.

Hi, l would put dirt or gravel in those openings of the sinter blocks on the outside. It makes them stronger and more supportive so that they stay in place. What you also might consider is to put in 750mm (30") long Y12 (12mm thick - half inch) rebar in the center of those blocks on the downhill side to prevent it from sliding away when your ground starts to become very wet. Hammer it in at the inside closes to the water tanks, straight down like a tent peg and full it up. Good luck.

Just a comment on about placing poles. Use Pythagoras' theorem to place the 3rd corner post, and then use it to make sure that your 4 corner posts aren't in the shape of a trapezoid. After that use a string line to place any posts between the outside posts. That way there is less risk of getting a bad measurement, and the string line is a constant visual of where the post needs to go.

The HOWL upon completion was EPIC. I know that feeling well. We were all so concerned about what y'all were doing because time is of the essence and resources valuable. Now don't you agree it would have been a lot less work to have purchased a property with natural water source? It would have saved money, time, hard work, a few mistakes and provided all you needed naturally. A simple water filter installation would have been all that was needed and is still going to be needed.

It was really perfect method to put the water tank on concrete platform.
When i was watching this video something was running in my mind.
That is how fast and quick you collect rain water from that roof to the tank.
I thought that u should have built a roof on top of the water tank attached with half round cut pipe all the beneath the roof end and hade a way with other half round t shaped piped directly flowing into the top mouth of the water tank.
You try to design on paper and make one more rainwater roof.so that it will collect from both roof to fill ur tank till u get the electric power.
Well its just my thought.so keep it up.take care bye.

Absolutely awesome you guys, passion is everything with everything that comes, no matter what! But I also think you need a bigger drain pipe in the driveway and lower to prevent the water from rising and possible flooding. I would have built the rain roof above the water tanks, that way, the water doesnt have to travel that long distance to the tanks..... and also, there’s water pressure. to deal with. water seeks it’s own level with aid of gravity but i don’t think there will be enough pressure to push water up a pipe into those holes at the lid of your water tanks. Just my opinion. I might be wrong...

    • @jacquesdumas8682
      @jacquesdumas8682 4 года назад +3

Hi, I also do agree. The pipe from the collection roof should be straight into the top of the tank so that the water can flow freely in line with a down hill slope to the top inlet of the tanks. Good luck and wel done. Love your chanel.

Guys I wished you would of showed us you water plans on paper before you started. Because I’m asking myself why not leave the collection barrels on high ground and build the water collection system on top of the barrels? Then once they are full of water you have gravity and all the weight of the water to develop water pressure going down hill. Seems a lot easier to me.

I did not make rain barrels, nor live in another country, but I did 3/4 of an acre using my body 💪 muscles and with simple tools. Now I am selling next year, have a lawn mower tractor with snow blade, plus better tools but a body that has seen better days. My daughter and I did one truck load of sand/gravel mix. That was too much. Next, I paid a hundred dollars extra for delivery with a huge commercial dump truck, which on the last delivery, their front end sunk into the dirt up to their front wheels. They had to have a bigger commercial dump truck pull them out. More sand/gravel delivered = more expense. I had yearly deliveries. Much better to push the sand/gravel around. That rock in the driveway will need to go, if it can, other wise, a different route in. You won’t need a gym now and I am pretty sure your body aches. Now you will need a lawn mower tractor (I love mine, best invention in the world!) to mow your acre(s), to keep it down. Welcome to land ownership. You are much younger then when I started so your bodies hopefully will last longer until volunteers or paid workers arrive.

You will be amazed how fast the barrels will fill up. I put in a single 1600 gallon one here and it filled up in 2-3 rain storms and has been full ever since. Except that time I opened it up and forgot to close it. Don't do that. :)

When you run your pipe down the hill why not leave it elevated? Put it on top of posts as you go that way it will be right height when you get to your tanks. That all the rain water will empty each time it rains.

OK part 2 you said you're going to connect the pipes at but the tanks from the bottom you don't want to do that you want to connect them at the top right at the very top like on the side of the dock so when the water level gets up so high it starts automatically going through that pipe into the next tank and then when that tank fulfills you do the same thing connect the top the top pipe to The side of the top tank well you know what I mean up toward the top but on the side and connect all three that way so when the first tank gets full when it reaches that pipe it'll go through the pipe and drain into the second tank when that time gets full it'll drain into the next one the same way and then you could have an overflow hole hole on the others on the other side of the third track

idk if they make a truck bed hoist but with them kinda chores might be worth looking into. mini dump truck would be handy for this work and likely future work and chores y'all gonna have going on.a also a lift with slightly larger tires, don't wanna be bottom out
