    I have been following you guys for a few months. I lived in Panama for 4 years, great country. You live on a sloped hill, so consider that in all your builds. Rain water drain off is going to be a big one. Never remove topsoil grass if possible. It holds the soil together. Also build with concrete peers on everything. Use hurricane straps on your bus, do it now. Build with the wind, to avoid wind shear. Good luck.

    Ask the suppliers of your fruit trees. It all depends on their sizes but a dwarf or semi-dwarf citrus can be spaced about 5 feet. Citrus aren't the biggest trees and I am in Arizona and down the street are acres of citrus trees. They have them about 8-10 ft. across but they are constantly trimming them every year because they don't want the trees to grow too tall. Unless you have some very tall ladders or a boom lift then keep them short so you can easily harvest the fruits. In that climate, I am jealous, you can do many different varieties of tropical and semi tropical trees.

    Please ‘always’ wear eye protection- those wires can easily come off that wheel and cause horrific eye damage - ! Anything you do that involves power tools - please always wear safety eye wear! You only get two eyes! This from a safety professional taking many maintenance people to the ER over the years! Please - always safety first! There.... now Atleast I feel better! 👍

    we have been in our off grid home for fourteen years and i have learned the turtle way is the way!!! when you take small projects as experiments in design, experiments in skills -- then complete a small project -- you have slowly made it on your way. go slow. enjoy changing your mind. enjoy improving your skills. there are only so many hours!!

      People "off the grid" don't have internet access. LOL It's reached the point where the phrase "off the grid" has no meaning. The phrase "off the grid" meaning does not receive any form of electrical power, e.g the power grid.

    Glad ur reading our feedback. I too thought that was a good tidbit about the spacing of the trees. Don't forget the composting tip. It was cool to see Kaylee's freckles. They look cool! The gentleman from Trinidad & Tobago, have him point you to some good soca and steel band music! His original land is the Mecca of the steel band! And, lastly, please consider using concrete instead of wood as your building material to avoid wood rot and termites. Panama is the land of wood rot and termites with voracious appetites.

    • @gregwhiteside7045
      @gregwhiteside7045 4 года назад

      we are building in Panama with mostly concrete block. as long as you use local wood that is treated then it will be OK .. we were surprised how many old wood houses we saw in Boquete,, down where we are there are hardly any.. different climates across the country

    • @fanfare100
      @fanfare100 4 года назад

      Glad ur using mostly concrete. You don't wanna build entirely out of treated wood as it is toxic and I don;t want you to get cancer. If you're using it for certain parts like the roof or outside or maybe a few places, fine, but being entirely surrounded by toxins that out-gass is not a good idea.

    Hi sweet friends.
    I've been in landscaping for 30 years and depending on what citrus your growing, 30' would be safe.
    Look up each tree and see what the maximum height and width will be and separate accordingly.
    The mint green/turquoise is a lovely, happy color for Jenny.
    Super excited to see Kaylees folks coming down.
    Everything is coming along well and I know your learning a lot.
    Hugs to both of you,

    Goats, goats and more goats if you want that pasture cleaned off like a lawn mower was used. We use them here in Virginia, since we have kudzu, and they can clean off mountainous slopes, deep ravines and make them look like a golf green. You have to give them protection from jaguars or similar predictors.

    • @tkellis913

    • @marywilson9186
      @marywilson9186 4 года назад

      Not goats. As a long time goat owner I can tell you that your tree's will all be gone, grass is their least favorite meal and they're a terror to keep fenced. You'd be better off with sheep, that actually like grass, or consider miniature cows, which eat grass, give milk, and are friendly.

    HEY GUYS, NICE VIDEO. DON'T WORRY ABOUT USING A PAPER TOWEL FOR A COFFEE FILTER, WEVE ALL DONE THAT A TIME OR TWO. SOMETIMES FINANCES OR A WAY TO THE STORE ISN'T AVAILABLE SO YOU MUST IMPROVISE. IT'S CALLED LIFE.
    IF YOU ARE GOING TO PUT A REGULAR DOOR ON THE BUS YOU MIGHT WANT TO BUILD A DECK ON THAT SIDE OF THE BUS. IT WOULD GIVE YOU AN EASIER WAY TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE BUS. IT WOULD ALSO GIVE YOU A PLACE TO SET IN THE MORNING WHILE DRINKING YOUR COFFEE IN THE MORNING. IT WOULD ALSO BE NICE TO WATCH THE SUNSET IN THE EVENINGS.
    YOU ARE LIVING THE LIFE THAT MOST PEOPLE WANT TO LIVE. ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN. SO MANY PEOPLE WANT A LIFE LIKE WHAT YOU AND MYSELF HAVE. I LIVE IN THAILAND AND HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR 10 YEARS NOW. MY THEORY IS " JUMP OFF THE EDGE AND GROW YOUR WINGS ON THE WAY DOWN " CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE I HEARD THAT BUT I LIVE THAT WAY.

    Don't be fooled by those cows, Darlins, they are big-look like Brown Swiss. My Gramps had a dairy farm so I know cows and how destructive they can be. You are gonna need to put in a cow proof fence. You already know the one you have won't holt them and when they see and smell all those veggies growing, they'll be over there. Some farmers put up electric fences-top wire, but that takes power which I don't think you want to mess with. Good luck!

Or, you should get some sheep or goats to clear it. :) I think of ticks and other critters that thrives in high grass. And guys.. It is not about the time, it is about growth in progress. So glad Lola's eye wasn't hurt. I have 2 one-eyed dogs that are doing well.
    I love the color you picked for the van! Seems like a good idea you moved the fruit trees. It will be good when you can collect rain from a regular roof. It will work out.
    Congratulations on being there 6 months! It's gratifying to watch you work so hard at doing things right even when it's frustratingly slow. Even though it was hard to lose the rain roof think of all the water you have that you wouldn't have if you had waited to do the project. Moral of the story? One day at a time, one baby step after another, learn from each project and don't let seeming setbacks get you down. I admire your can-do attitude and I'm so glad you are getting help.
    Love to you both and peace and success to your community!

    When planting from plant that have already been rooted. You can boost the plant with seaweed root boost & gentle loosening the established root system. It is also good to feed the plants seaweed every so often.

    Great video! Love what you guys have going so far! The color of the bus is going to be great! We'll have to send you a brick decal to put on it lol. Thank goodness you guys decided to travel right away instead of painting the bus. If you would've painted we wouldn't have bumped into each other outside of Yellowstone and might have never met! We have got to get down there sooner than later... Tell Lola we say hello

    Hi y’all, a quick suggestion. To clear your veggie patch, take your weed wacker & buzz all the grass off that you can. Next take some black plastic and put it over the area & just leave it. All the weeds will die and you can plant whatever you want. 🦚😇

    FYI Colloidal silver is great for treating stuff. I use a small spray bottle and sprayed my goats eyes no burn - have used on my own eyes. Good to have for lots of things.

    Good job guys! Glad you separated the fruit trees. Jordan, no worries, don't be too overly concerned about the comments to the point of paranoia, and BTW you walk fine :)
    I am guessing that you were just excited to show the new color of the van so you made a couple swipes with the brush for our benefit. Without sounding like I am criticizing, I do hope you use a good metal primer/rusty metal primer before painting the colors on. It would be a shame to do all that work, not use a primer, and have the paint peeling off prematurely. Also, as others have mentioned, please, please, please use safety glasses/googles always. You do not want metal pieces flying into your eye.

    It looks like I am almost too late with advice on removing the decals but in case you still have more to go here is what I suggest. - If the decal gets a lot of sunshine throughout the day it will soften the adhesive & be easier to remove. For areas that are not getting a lot of sunshine try brushing on a harsh solvent like Acetone, Toluene or Paint Stripper. They are nasty solvents so use appropriate gloves & stay away from the fumes but they will disolve the decals in short order.

    The bus is gonna look awesome with the new colors!! I’m curious to what is it like with stray animals there? Like dogs and such? My passion has always been animals and I would love to be able to help animal rescues in other countries but have never had an opportunity.

    • @gregwhiteside7045

      @@abundantlyclear there are poisonous snakes, spiders, frogs and scorpions in Panama but they generally run away from dogs and some people get dogs just to keep the snakes away.. but I also worry as poor Lola didn't grow up there and has no idea..

    15:30 It is slow, your right. Building something without plans and schedule lists from scratch and especially if you're winging it. I've built a few things (massive outdoor shed, converted garage to bedroom, new kitchen units and now I'm currently doing a van project) and I had no DIY experience but preference and pushing ahead help a lot. Plus RUclips videos and Google searches help when you get stuck.
