      There's an UNSPOKEN, "before you all (Jack, Hugo, Kate, Sayid) showed up" behind Sawyer's lament. When Sawyer begins pummeling Jack who was on his way to set off the hydrogen bomb at the future Swan hatch Site, he said to Jack, "I had a life here...what gives you the right to take all that away". You can tell it wasn't until Jack resolved to make so Oceanic never crashed, that Sawyer lost it. It meant that Sawyer would have never met Juliet, never have fallen in love with her, never lived a life of those 3 years with her. People tend to forget that Jack, Sawyer, Hurley, Kate, Sun & Jin, Sayid, John, Claire, et al were all together on the Island for ONLY 108 days. We don't know exactly how long Jack & Kate stayed together (long enough for them to be at the point of getting engaged, planning a wedding), Hugo wasn't with them he stayed in psychiatric care for a good chunk of the off Island time. Sayid was doing his own thing with Nadia until her death, and then became an international assassin for Ben. Sun went back to Korea and had Ji Yeon and became managing partner of Paik industries. Desmond was off living with Penny and having a kid with her.
      Contrast that with 3 years together for Miles, Jin, Juliet & Sawyer. Living and working together. When Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid came back...their return essentially dynamited Juliet & Sawyer's lives. Imagine how Kate feels hearing that Sawyer was going to ask Juliet to marry him. Remember, Jack proposed to Kate and she accepted and they were at least beginning to plan their wedding. So Kate know exactly HOW deeply Sawyer loved Juliet. She knows exactly what she (and the rest) did TO HIM (and Juliet). Sawyer's words about being destined to alone...the felt like a dagger through the heart for Kate. Maybe from the sting of losing THAT type of intimacy with Jack, realizing that this kind of relationship was NEVER in the cards for her and Sawyer, and knowing that she had a part in taking all that away from Sawyer.

      @@victorpradha9946 The character of Kate was wonderful, clear and mature in the lowest season. I wished she would remain that way... but unfortunately the writer in the remaining seasons made her a degraded character who is nothing but selfish.
      Even in the last season, even though Sawyer changed for the better, he chose Juliet and told her that he loved Juliet more than once. She always pursued him without stopping, not caring about Jack, and left him in a temple. She went to Sawyer, even though he asked her not to follow him. She did so even though she saw him broken down by Juliet’s passing. She took advantage of his loneliness and asked A chance to try She becomes his again. Her interest in Jack ended. She despised Jack and went to Sawyer, even though Jack loved her madly, but she only loves Sawyer, and this is very provocative.

    It is heartbreaking to see how much he loved Juliet. She is the only one he really wanted to start a family with. She was the one for him. With Kate, he did love her, but I can't help but feel like it was always a physical attraction more than anything. I gotta say, Josh Holloway's acting in all these scenes mourning Juliet, is just so on point. I can feel Sawyer's pain.

    • @jeweld.282
      @jeweld.282 5 лет назад +43

      Agreed, excepting for the fact that I think the reason him and Kate didn't work out is because they were too similar. Kate called to the part of Sawyer that was vengeful and cunning and damaged by life, since she has exactly the same characteristics.He loved her for that because I think it was like somebody finally understood him and could match him in intelligence. But those same qualities that drew him to Kate also pushed him away from her, because they didn't encourage him to be any better than he was. With Kate, he was always stuck being the criminal in contrast to Jack's goodness. With Juliet, he found a woman who was also cunning and smart(as all the ladies Sawyer falls in love with are), but she also respected him and saw the goodness in him. She stood by his side when his friends died and gave him empathy, not pity. She thought he was worth staying on the Island for. She CHOSE him, which is important because it's something Kate would never do. Kate's a wonderful character, but she's like Jack in the sense that she's going to do what has to be done. She's not going to let love or feelings get in the way of it, even if it breaks her heart. As is shown when she goes back for Claire, even though she loves Aaron and will have to give him up.

      Sawyer may have been the one who evolved the most. He went from a renegade, self-loathing loner and scavenging hoarder to a leader who genuinely tried to look out for everyone and keep them safe while prioritizing his relationship with Juliet.
      I mean yeah....Jack evolved from a hard-nosed, stubborn, reactive man of science with a hero-complex to a patient, deferential, thoughtful man of faith, but Jack was always the save everyone type.
      Sawyer became the save them all type. He worked hard in S6 to get his friends to safety. It's exactly THAT quality in Sawyer that Smokey used to plant that bomb and try to kill them all.

Kate wasn't annoying, she was a great, wild and beautiful character who made a lot of mistakes as much as every character in LOST. Kate never had an easy life, she was scared to get hurt and to hurt people, she was not used to be really loved and was also afraid to feel too much, because she always ended up hurting people she cared more and hurting herself as well. She was confused, vulnerable and messed up, but was really brave, caring and loyal and her feelings for Jack have always been real, deep and genuine.

      Alex B I totally agree with you. For one thing, Sawyer’s always been aware that Kate was in love with Jack. Secondly, what existed between Kate & Sawyer was based off circumstances and by that I mean, she only slept with him due to the circumstances of the situation like how he was going to die and seeing Jack getting close with Juliet. Finally, I think that Sawyer believed he loved her until he fell in love with Juliet then he realized that his feelings for Kate were nothing compared to the depth of love he had for Juliet. I think in this moment when Sawyer says he was planning to propose and even had a ring, Kate finally understands the relationship between Sawyer & Juliet because the love he has for her changed him in ways that his feelings for Kate never did which is why she cries. Kate is overcome with guilt for playing a part in Sawyer losing the best thing to ever happen to him and she was mourning how her actions robbed him of his happiness.

She realizes how much he was changed by his love for Juliet and that he lost his happiness by losing Juliet which Kate inadvertently caused when she got them off the sub. The only problem I have with Kate in this scene is that she thought that there would be no point for anyone if Claire and Aaron weren't reunited but she realized here that was only her view. The same way that Juliet and Sawyer told Jack that he didn't come back to rescue them and he came back to the island for himself because they'd been fine for 3 years. And within days of arriving Jack and Kate had bulldozed their whole lives.

    • @victorpradha9946
      @victorpradha9946 3 года назад +1

      I think Kate meant more that all the loss and all the heartache at least will have had purpose or some meaning if she's able to rescue Claire and reunite her with Aaron. I don't think she was suggesting that there was no value to the life Sawyer & Juliet made for themselves.
      Jack did NOT come back for himself really. He came back because John's death, the sightings of his father, the gnawing feeling that he has some yet to be fulfilled purpose on the Island drove him to want to make things right. Sun desperately mourns for Jin and knowing Jin is alive means she wants to go back and find Jin, and unite her family. Sayid is totally gone and self-loathing. Hurley admitted himself into a mental institution. Only Desmond and Penny seemed to be doing well OFF Island. Kate also seemed to be okay until the truth about who Aaron's real mother is was too much for her to bear. Really none of them (except Desmond and Penny) were at peace OFF Island either. They came back to set the wrongs that happened right. Sun w/ Jin, Kate with Aaron, Sayid with his atonement, Jack with his purpose, even Hugo with his sense of sanity and embrace of his abilities.
      I would argue that Sawyer, Miles, Jin and Juliet were all living lies. They knew that those Dharma folks, the people they were living with were going to get slaughtered in the purge and still just lived among them (the walking dead), laughing with them, working with them, having dinner and being "friends" with them. It was all just a kind of lie they lived, in almost the same way that Kate raising Aaron as her son was.

      @victorpradha9946 3 года назад

      @@soheiladam7510 Yeah the show was far more nuanced about the motivations of the characters than people are either perceive or are willing to acknowledge.
      For example: Jack's father's comment "you don't have what it takes" was more about Jack being far too caring, emotionally invested, and morally and ethically self-demanding to be as cold and dispassionate as Christian sees himself.
      Dr. Christian Shephard:
      [to a young Jack] I had a boy on my table today. I don't know, maybe a year younger than you. He had a bad heart. It got real hairy, real fast. And everybody's looking to your old man to make decisions. And I was able to make those decisions because at the end of the day, after the boy died, I was able to wash my hands and come home to dinner. You know, watch a little Carol Burnett, laugh till my sides hurt. And how can I do that, hmm? I mean even when I fail, how do I do that, Jack? Because I have what it takes. Don't choose, Jack, don't decide. You don't want to be a hero. You don't want to try and save everyone because when you fail... you just don't have what it takes.
      Jack interpreted it as Jack's not hero material. Jack saw it as an indictment of HIM...being inadequate, being insufficient. NO...it was Christian saying to Jack, YOU care far TOO much to let go. Christian was right. We saw this when Jack .thought he failed Sarah, when Gabrielle's father died, when he cut that dural sac (in his story to Kate). Jack couldn't deal with "failing" to save Boone. He wants to be able to change the outcome. Why? Because his father was an alcoholic who was unfaithful to Jack and his mother. They were not enough. Not entirely unlike Kate hating what Wayne does/did to her mother.
      So Jack wanting to detonate a nuclear bomb was him trying to set this RIGHT...to avoid all the loss, the suffering, the pain, the struggle. IF it was ALL "for a reason...all for some clandestine purpose, then all those deaths, all the misery has to remain in place...has to be accepted and therefore unalterable. Jack doesn't like WHAT's DONE is DONE!!!
      He is this way until Season 6. He's come to accept loss and failure and keep going despite it. The man of purpose Jack becomes is because it's not that he finally realizes he has what it takes, but that he realizes and accepts that his nature has always been self-sacrificial (he gave his own blood to try and save Boone, he saved Kate and Sawyer from the Others even if it meant performing surgery on his tormentor, he swallowed the poison pill meant for Sayid, he accepted the role of the Island's protector to spare any one else the burden and risk, he restored the heart of the Island at the cost of his life so that Kate et al will be saved). Jack finally understood that not having what it takes means, he is NOTHING like his father...which is a GREAT THING!

      However, they both felt Jack and Co. returning wasn’t about rescuing them and they were right. Jack nor Kate considering the repercussions of their return to the island each for their own idea of what grandiose destiny they had to fulfill and if they ruined lives even killed people in the process, they would willingly sacrifice those people.

    As much as Sawyer loved Juliet, which he did and it was a real love and mature and lifelong, Kate was still his first real love. Anyone saying Sawyer wasn’t in love with Kate in the earlier seasons are kidding themselves. When he says, “I convinced her to stay because I didn’t want to be alone,” and then he looks at her and says, “You understand that right?” He meant because he didn’t want to be alone without Kate. He wanted Kate to know that he did love her, but that during the 3 years they were apart, he matured emotionally and fell in love with Juliette, and it was a real partnership and they brought out the best in each other. Juliette was intelligent and kind hearted, and truly loved him. Kate was immature and selfish through the entire series.

    • @pokytheturtle1757
      @pokytheturtle1757 Год назад +3

      It’s funny how you say Kate was selfish and immature for the entire series after literally watching one of the scene where she explains how she gave up her relationship with Aaron in order to reunite him with Claire. Yeah, real selfish of her.
      But anyways, I think what Sawyer actually meant by the line “you understand that, right?” is simply that… she understands that. Kate doesn’t want to be alone either. Ever since she was denied a true authentic loving relationship since childhood because of her crappy parents, she’s craved some sort of love. That’s why she was so attached to Aaron. Because Aaron was finally someone who would love her unconditionally as his mother. Sawyer understood Kate’s desire to not be alone, just like him. That’s why he said that.

    Love the music, "Oceans Apart", which was originally played in Season 3 when Karl was literally "oceans apart" from his girl, Kate&Sawyer were "oceans apart" emotionally (but he still was able to literally "light her fire"), and Jack&Juliet were just beginning. I think this music is intended to show how far Kate&Sawyer still are from understanding each others' motives and feelings.

      Pete Zahut Yeah it was terrible but if she never said that, their children wouldn't never born and Sun will be dead.

      She wasn't planning on saying that. She did to save Sun's life. If you put everything together and look at the big picture, in the end, Juliet is actually incredibly kind, maybe the kindest of them all. She sacrificed everything (even her own life) to help or save others. She was even ready to let go of the love of her life so he could love an other woman if he wanted to.

    • @Pinoche29

      The most cold blooded thing she did might be when she killed Danny, but she did to save Kate and Sawyer... and even then she knew she could be killed for that, and she would have if Jack didn't intervene so she 'just' ended up marked.

    Kate is so selfless, caring, empathic and helper, people underestimate her concern for everybody on the island to begin with Sawyer. Poeple hating her for not being the eternal sex toy of the the most sexist guy of the island, ignoring all the good things she intended to do to him. I think she respects Juliet, Sawyer and their ship more than Sawyer himself.
