Jack was always meant to be with Kate. Sawyer was always meant to be with Juliet. Polar opposites attract (and in this case meant for each other)
Some of you guys are forgetting there were alternate endings. Jack wouldn't have allowed Kate to stay with him anyway. He was always the first to get her out of harms way. Plus, if she would have stayed, it would have ruined the symbolic end scene where Jack and Vincent are together. Both Jack and Kate were messed up and lost after they left the island. There was a point to their tattered relationship.
Then she would've been sitting next to him holding his hand at the end in the church...instead it was Jack. She was meant to be with Jack. The bad guy always is attracted to the good girl and vice versa.
This scene is so heartbreaking. Kate's love for Jack is so obvious. And he makes the most beautiful smile when he hears the words 'I love you'. He knows the sincerity in her love declaration. It was always Jack all along and he died knowing he was the one Kate was in love with.
@@aro327 WE all end up in eternity together, we merge with the oneness of the universe sometimes called God! And then we are the "we" that "we" experienced on earth.
This scene is awesome because Jack and Kate finally cut all the shit and are totally, one hundred percent honest with each other. Also, it's an on screen shot of Kate vocalizing her feelings for Jack. Did you see his face? It was such sweet relief to hear her say it. It was what he was waiting for for six seasons and three years. Also I love that in that moment the camera and Kate didn't give a hoot about Sawyer. It was all about Jack, something that it had never before been.

@TV 101 yes i know and actually i agree with you but it is just that i consider that the after life doesn’t have the same value that the life. And we dont even when kate dies, maybe she dies just after or maybe she had to spent a hole new life without jack. And sorry if their mistakes in my sentences, im not english :)
This is such a beautiful scene. One of the most moving in the show's history. I was always a massive Jack/Kate fan. From the very first episode, it was always those two. Watching it live, I sobbed my little heart out. The most perfect on screen couple.
0:55 probably the most cathartic moment in the series. The two rivals finally accepting each other and shaking hands. Jack even calls him James. What an incredible scene.
The scene before Sawyer leaves on the raft and tells Jack about meeting his father in Australia just before he died was awesome too. Contender for best scene in the show IMO, Jack and Sawyer's relationship was easily one of the best parts of the series.
This was the perfect ending for these two. Just so much chemistry, drama, tension built up in this couple to just let out their true feelings at the very end. Definitely in my top 5 favorite tv couples :')
Jack and Kate's relationship and their love is so unique and special in this show. Whilst all the other couples in the show who helped one another remember in the sideways were relationships in which their love for one another acted as the ultimate redeemer, be it Desmond & Penny, Sawyer & Juliet, Jin & Sun, Charlie & Claire, Sayid & Shannon etc. what is so interesting is that the main protagonist's love interest was NOT the sole redeemer. And it is interesting that nor was he the sole redeemer for her. For a story in which so many of the secondary characters personified the show's main theme, it's interesting the main character and his love interest did not exactly personify it. I think the message of the show is to say that while we all ultimately aim for true love and to be redeemed by finding companionship, I think the greatest redeemer is what we can do out of complete selfless love for more than just one other romantically. Indeed Kate loved Jack and he loved her, but what set them apart especially is that their memories of redemption revolved around what they did for those who they loved completely selflessly - where they cared and nurtured others before themselves - that being Kate helped to not only deliver Aaron but then became a pivotal nurturing force in his life. So while Kate did someting entirely for just one life, Jack was the character that did something for an entire community, and in the end - for the island ie. the world. They were the true heroes of the story, one to save the world and a community (Jack) and one who shaped and saved one special life (Kate). In the end they had each other, but what was more powerful about their journeys is how finding romantic love was not enough for them. The big hearted people they both were knew they needed to do more to feel satisfied with themselves, and that's such a great message. The idea that they weren't the best couple is interesting, and maybe that was part of the point of the show's message and not necessarily a failing of the writing. Indeed the show does illustrate the power of romantic love, but it more powerfully illustrates the power of love in its more infinite ways it can be expressed - for one and for the many. Great characters!
Amen, I have always believed that finding your true romantic love in this life is not enough, at least it’s not for me. People who don’t get Lost, always ask what it’s about. What’s the point? They get caught up on the puzzles and the polar bears. But in the end, throughout all the fantastic mysteries and all the amazing settings, stories and characters, I think Jack and Kate are the absolute beating heart of the show. Right from the first episode, where she’s stitching him up on the beach, right to the end, with this final goodbye on the cliff.
I always wish she had gotten pregnant before they went back to the island so at this moment she can tell him she’s pregnant and will always have a piece of him even in death..But she’ll always have his heart. Best couple love them wish they had a happy ending.

Dammit, Evangeline Lilly gave the most emotional look ever. Sadness combined with respect and longing and devotion. And she was seeing Jack with complete love.
so classy not to cut to sawyer during or even after the kiss. most shows would have probably had a reaction shot, but the moment called for more reverence, and they nailed it here.
it always end's with the goodbye kiss why can't they just stay together and die together i mean if jack knew he was'nt coming back why did'nt kate just stay with him anyway.
Lore T Yeah. Anytime I my girlfriend says it to me I never do "too".. Just both saying I Love You is so much more loving and romantic than adding "too" on the end.
Yeah, it's more like Kate you already know, i love you. He had already confessed his feelings and finally Kate was all honest with him, and he was so happy.
I love this duo very much, and the ending was miserable. I cried a lot.. but Kate does not say I love you to Jack in all seasons except when she understood that he was going to die, as if she was appeasing him by hearing that Chihuahua loved him.. even though Sawyer loved Juliet and changed for the better because of her. However, Kate had been in love with Sawyer all along, and she hinted I love him in more than one scene, unlike what I did. Magic only said it when she knew his fate was death. Then she left the island with James and Claire as if nothing had happened. I expected a stronger reaction. To be frank, the writer preferred Kate to be the fate of Sawyer and Claire's assistants. These are the details of the episode. It was the third season, sixth, when she told him she had to That she finds Claire and reunites her with her son, and he must help her is evidence of her ending with Claire and Sawyer, meaning that it was said that she would abandon Jack and return to Sawyer and help her find Claire, but Sawyer bombarded her with his love for Juliet and His relationship with him is what made me laugh at her, but at the end of the day he brought her together with Sawyer, this is what provoked me. very
I think in a way Jack found comfort in that he was going to die. Ever since Juliet died, he's had a death wish and now he has a chance to die for a reason. Not even Kate could bring him back from his dark place anymore. Juliet and Jack's deaths parallel perfectly here. Both made the ultimate sacrifice while finding solace and peace within their deaths. Jack and Juliet were the same. They were platonic soulmates. That's why they found each other first in the afterlife.
I remember first watching that sense and crying my eyes out, it's the first time Kate actually shows how she really feels towards jake who has from day one loved her and even though she has pushed him away because she was scared he would hurt her like her mum did finally, in that moment knowing she would loose him tells him the truth and his face when she says it, the pure happiness he feels from finally knowing just makes this moment truly perfect
wesleypipes i think sawyer has to feel very lost after juliets death and thats the sad thing about his character when he left the island with the plane kate and claire could make something for aaron and miles and richard and lepidus just can live their lives but sawyer has nothing and ends probably up in depression that is very sad but maybe he can still have contact with kate as friends and maybe he can even go to his ex personally and tell her he is sorry but nevertheless after his death he meets juliette again so also he has a good ending :)
I noticed something interesting about the final pairings in the love triangle. Juliet gave her life for Sawyer when she hit the bomb thinking that she would be able to send him home and Jack gave his life for Kate so that she could get on the Ajira Plane and fly away. I don't know if it means anything but I thought it was a sweet detail.
We should all be so lucky as to experience a love as perfect and sublime as in the moment they looked into each other's eyes and kissed for the final time. Very moving stuff.
Jack answered "I had her and I lost her" underlining to know that he had already lost Kate and that, now, it is just to repair the damage he has done, leaving the island. That choice had nothing to do with Kate, indeed Jack is aware that he and Kate would going back as strangers. If Kate had been the reason of every Jack's action, Lost would have finished differently. But Jack decided to believe Locke and he realized that he had to follow his destiny saving the island, giving up everything else.
For the LONGEST time it pissed me off that she only said it once. But as the show ended and I was able to let myself think, I realized that the writers probably made that choice on purpose. I mean even though they weren't consistently together, they always made each other better people. And that's a kind of love that doesn't need to be said out loud. It's shown :')
I think what's so perfect about their love confession and final farewell is that the reason they both have to go their separate ways is because they both have to go be the heroes for other people; Jack has to protect and save the island, while Kate has to finish her mission to reunite Claire with Aaron - it's that heroism which they've always done through the show, it's what brought them together, what they had in common and why they respected and fell so deeply for one another, but also finally what eventually meant they could not be together... I mean that's the definition of true heroes, they put the love and needs of everyone else before their incredible love for one another. We love Des & Penny, Sawyer & Juliet, Charlie & Claire etc. because they have the love we all relate to and want - one in which we can end up happily and care for ourselves, but I think Jack and Kate's love is more inspiring - it shows that you can love one another deeply, but you can still be prepared to love greater beyond one another. I love all the other couples greatly, but there's just something unique and powerful in what Jack and Kate sacrifice, they are heroes for eveyone else - they know their love is important but their love and dedication to their friends and everyone else is pure heroism.
if it was real life then yeah that probably would've been what happened, but the whole point of ending of the show like this with jack dying was to show he was a hero and willing to save the island and his friends even if it meant sacrificing himself.
+metsjets333 Yeah they were never very clear on that, but something about the light being connected to all the "light" in everyone, which is like the soul I guess. I assume it has something to do with the word "Namaste" which keeps showing up in Lost.
this is the official point when you know LOST is over. Jack and Sawyer shaking hands and saying goodbye to each other. This is a very important moment where the regular viewer may overlook this.
I like his parting ways with Sawyer the most since you could just feel the mutual respect they had for one another. I felt bad for Jack and Kate here too of course.
Beautiful music, very very moving moment... I was crying so much! Some people think that Kate is a coward because she didn't stay with him, I'm not okay with that. Jack sacrified himself to permit her and the others to leave the island and to live. She couldn't just say "Hey, let's die together", that's not what Jack wanted. She accept Jack's sacrifice, she accept to live during years without him, she accept the responsability of Claire and Aaron. She made the choice that Jack wanted for her.
I'll never understand people who didn't like the end of Lost. Ok, maybe the "flash sideways" in reality being a spiritual ending wasn't your thing? Ok. But at a bare minimum what more could you ask for from the end of the on island story. It was perfect and immensely satisfying. Also it was a show on ABC, not a premium cable channel, they were never going to answer every mythology question. They answered the important stuff
I just re-watched Lostfor the umpteenth time and I will never get over the beauty and perfection of Jack and Kate. All the feels are hitting me hard all over again.

It was the third season, sixth, when she told him she had to That she finds Claire and reunites her with her son, and he must help her is evidence of her ending with Claire and Sawyer, meaning that it was said that she would abandon Jack and return to Sawyer and help her find Claire, but Sawyer bombarded her with his love for Juliet and His relationship with him is what made me laugh at her, but at the end of the day he brought her together with Sawyer, this is what provoked me. very
😄😄bulshit
I miss this show!
Absolutely
Jack, Kate, Sayid,Sawyer and Hurley are the most memorable characters in my entire TV show history .
John Locke
I never cry when I watch tv... until I saw this 😢
I think in a way Jack found comfort in that he was going to die. That's why they found each other first in the afterlife.
she prob said it to him when they were living together, it jsut didn't show it on screen.
Damn that was a hot kiss.
My babies 😭 I miss them so much. They meant the world to me once. So glad they got to spend eternity together in the afterlife ❤
Jate were true Fate.
Kate chose Jack
No show made me feel the type of things LOST did. Watching it start to finish while it aired was a beautiful experience
Didn't they live together at least for some time off Island? And he proposes to her too. SO they had some time together.
I knew they always loved each other from day one❤This scene always makes me cry😭Best show ever made in history
But they didn’t love each other on day one you dumbshit!
I think it's sadder when Jack and Sawyer say goodbye
Haha😂
Its very poignant
+wesleypipes It's also comforting because Sawyer gave Jack the respect and gratitude that eluded them for all those years.
+nugent milicent *I found it _shallow and pedantic_.
wesleypipes i think sawyer has to feel very lost after juliets death and thats the sad thing about his character
when he left the island with the plane kate and claire could make something for aaron and miles and richard and lepidus just can live their lives but sawyer has nothing and ends probably up in depression that is very sad but maybe he can still have contact with kate as friends and maybe he can even go to his ex personally and tell her he is sorry
but nevertheless after his death he meets juliette again so also he has a good ending :)
9 years later, but I agree. They were both doctors; it was in their nature to save lives.
Kate: “Let the island sink Jack”
Is she forgetting that Rose, Bernard and Vincent will sink with the island too 😱😱😱
Did she ever meet them??
@@Anu32148 yh she did in the season 5 finale
You have a way with words. Absolutely right and beautiful ❤
Thank you for these words! It heals me to know there’s others who get it! Who understand! Thank you!
Beautifully said! ❤
One of the best shows ever....always cry when she says "Tell me i'm gonna see you again".....
I cried when Jack and Sawyer shook hands and said their goodbyes. 😢
i don't understand why he didn't just get on the plane and let the island sink? i mean who cares about the damn island
if it was real life then yeah that probably would've been what happened, but the whole point of ending of the show like this with jack dying was to show he was a hero and willing to save the island and his friends even if it meant sacrificing himself.
I don't think they would have been able to leave if jack didn't do what he did I can't remember why but I'm almost certain
The Island's light apparently can't go out or it could mean the end of all of humanity.
+metsjets333 Yeah they were never very clear on that, but something about the light being connected to all the "light" in everyone, which is like the soul I guess. I assume it has something to do with the word "Namaste" which keeps showing up in Lost.
oops who is here in 2021
Sad that Hurley and sawyer don't acknowledge each other
matsh hummelsh
Sawyer & Hurley aren’t saying goodbye forever.
“I missed you so much.”
i love jack is so cute and supermen
My Favorite scene ! WE LOVE LOST From Greece
what if the son jack had in heaven was actually kate + jack's real child in real life????????????? maybe
this is the official point when you know LOST is over. Jack and Sawyer shaking hands and saying goodbye to each other. This is a very important moment where the regular viewer may overlook this.
My sister cried
Funny thing, on paper Jack and Juliet seem like a natural couple, as do Kate and Sawyer. But damned if it didn't work better the other way around.
Jack is the best
I like his parting ways with Sawyer the most since you could just feel the mutual respect they had for one another. I felt bad for Jack and Kate here too of course.
I always start crying after Jack says "I love you" :')
This scene had me balling. Cant believe it ended the way it did for these two. :(
Wow I'm moved. Only Jack shaped can make 'I Love you' sound not cliché.
"tell me im going to see you again."
And jack wont lie to her....
OHH heartbreaking hahaha
2020
I'll never understand people who didn't like the end of Lost. Ok, maybe the "flash sideways" in reality being a spiritual ending wasn't your thing? Ok. But at a bare minimum what more could you ask for from the end of the on island story. It was perfect and immensely satisfying. Also it was a show on ABC, not a premium cable channel, they were never going to answer every mythology question. They answered the important stuff
“I’ve missed you so much.”
I JUST LOVE THE MUSIC STARTING FROM 1:32, its been there since the pilot!
Lost is the greatest tv show of all time in my opinion Breaking Bad a close second...
U crazy
Best on-screen-kiss i ever saw. Even after all those years.
Them nostalgia feels
I guess u could call them lostalgia feels
okay I'll leave now
i remember seeing this and hoping sawyer would say "thanks jack" instead of doc. would've seemed more fitting to me but both work well
ummm no. kate LOVES jack so much! you don't say yes to marriage is you don't love that person!
