The viewfinder is way nicer than expected on A6700. I wish the stills/movie/S&Q switch was smoother like on ZVE1. Is there an option for a red record box on A6700? If not, it would be a nice update. I also love a zoom rocker. ZVE1 is beautiful in low light with the full sensor. A ZVE10 mark 2 will be amazing if it ever comes. A ZVE1 in an affordable APSC body would be well received.
the fx30 will be much better for heat. the a6700 is good - but it does overheat depending on how long you shoot and how warm it is. if you’re concerned at all about overheating - get the fx30
Hello Mark. I just got my a6700 ( due to your reviews) watched all the video and set up my settings. First of all thank you for all the detailed videos!!! Thanks Mark!!! I will watch this again when my camera arrives…❤❤❤ This is so helpful! Hopefully you will do another how to video of Sony 6700. Have you been able to test out the new Sony shot gun mic with this camera?

Hi Mark, I've been looking in your feed for a video like this but for the A7CII (just got one) and I don't see it, did you already do it and I missed it or it's just not there? There are plenty of videos in RUclips with this info, "best settings" and so on, but since you are my reference on the topic I trust more your vision about this. Or maybe you could recommend me some other youtuber who did it and you think it's the best for this?
Great review but fast. Of course, those that actually purchase the a6700 will find this video helpful in the future (even for referencing settings that become fuzzy (for those of us having senior moments)). I’m going to wait for the a7C update before deciding whether to replace my a6500 (or not). Just wondering if the none S-log video recordings are any better on the a6700 than the a6500 regarding the processing of updating individual frames during recording. As I recall, the a6500 updates the entire frame every 24 frames (set a 24 frames/sec). That tends to be the most focused frame every 1 second.
there are create looks on the Sony that are more like film simulations. the picture profiles have looks to them too, but they’re not really like the film simulations
Mark, great tutorial and walkthrough, plz explain if I could set the A6700 to do the Auto Framing through HDMI while live-streaming? If I don't record on an SD card, can I choose the option of "crop" for the HDMI then? I'm doing my livestreams through Ecamm, three cameras, but this Auto Framing option gave me some ideas when doing studio tours, behind the scene footage etc. Would be great if it worked.. Thanks!
Nicely covered! Didn't realize the a6700 didn't include Uncompressed RAW, which isn't a big deal considering how good /Lossless Compressed RAW is anyway. I am surprised Sony removed PP7-9 instead of keeping them, or reducing the numbering to 1-8. I guess it'll keep things more consistent between cameras, e.g. S-Cinetone always being PP11, but would leaving them really have been an issue?
Hi Mark, always great and detailed! btw, I'm a ZV-E10 user, I decided to buy ZV-E10 because I watched your channel 😀. and I am satisfied with this camera for product review purposes and sometimes taking pictures/cine videos for my family. except I'm not satisfied with 1080p and rolling shutter on 4K from this camera. now I'm getting interested in the A6700. So do you think the A6700 will get the Product Showcase feature in a future firmware update?
no product showcase mode I wouldn’t think. but you can just turn off subject detection by assigning it to a button and it will work similarly. just with a couple more clicks
A travel day for me, but I will be watching later. I don't see mention of video capture dimensions in the time stamps. I'm not even sure of the actual name, but some have called it 'open gate'. Can you capture video in 4:3 (or others) and use more of the sensor, so you can crop what you need later (16x9 AND 9x16)? The idea of capturing more, so you can use the same footage for regular video and shorts, sounds useful.
No, the aspect ratio is set to 16:9 for video - for vertical content (9:16) you turn the camera - but there is no open gate or different aspect ratios in video.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for the quick reply. This camera sounds amazing, but the broader aspect ratio is sounding really useful for shorts. How do you handle shorts?
Nice overview, thanks! I was hoping to see the continuous exposure bracketing modes. You showed one @34:36- 3 images at 0.3ev. But I think there must have been more using the left/right buttons. Any chance you can tell us the other continuous exposure bracketing modes? Cheers!
I search and search but, can't find any answers on, if you can customise witch funktions, you want in the touch function icons menu, like in the FN menu?
Mark! If I import Leeming Lut onto my Sony camera and film with Slog3, do I expose my skin at 70 zebras or 85? Also, do you snap a white balance to an 18% grey card when using Leeming Lut? If so, can you recommend one that is sufficiently big and accurate? I have a cheap one from Amazon, but I am concerned my colors won't be accurate.
Zebras 85 for skin. White balancing manually is always best. That grey card you got from Amazon should be fine. I use a $10 all the time and the white balance is exactly the same as my $130 colour checker
This is an awesome overview of capabilities. Thanks so much. Two questions: If I was using a bunch of these as part of a multi-cam interview, is there a way to have them sync time codes with each other? Separately, is it possible to feed the video and remotely control the devices from one device/computer?
You can buy time code jammers from tentacle sync amzn.to/44hJxvj you can control the cameras from one computer using something like the Blackmagic atem or even a software like ecamm live or OBS
Hi Marc, thank you so much for your reviews! Can I ask why the a6700 has the worst noise performance, by far, out of every other sony camera you've tested? Is it because they got rid of the multi-frame noise reduction mode that was present in all other cameras? Thanks!
it’s the same with the fx30 (which shares the sensor). Sony seems to have used much less aggressive noise reduction with those two cameras. You can reduce the noise yourself if you want, but it’s not baked in. I believe they did this because the fx30 is in their cinema line, and people who shoot the cinema cameras don’t like noise reduction baked in as it softens the image and they want to control the level of noise reduction themselves.
Ohh ok... Apologies for seeing this (and your other reply to my other comment on another video) just now... Can I ask if Sony allows you to do noise reduction with settings WITHIN the camera body (on the a6700)? Or, are you forced to do all noise reduction OUTSIDE of the camera, after filming, in Lightroom/davinci/etc? Thank you so much and I really love your videos!
Hello, I want to use focus stacking in studio photography. However, I will need 1.5 seconds for the flashes to charge. Is there a setting to extend the time between photo shoots? Thank you
I found the active stabilization doesn’t work with the 70-350, the image jumps up and down wildly. Another issue I’ve had is when focus peaking is used on video the peaking colour will show up when viewing your pictures in camera, including any stills you have taken as well. I’m hoping there is a update to fix these issues.
So for the Leeming LUT. Do you have to follow his camera setup instructions, or do you just load the LUT and select it under Exposure > Color/Tone in the camera? I followed his instructions to set the camera up, but the LUT defaults to the s709 LUT because I'm shooting in LOG. "This operation or setting not availabe as follows: Log Shooting"
you would have to add the .cube file to an SD card and load the LUT onto the User LUTS on the camera then select that one. But that is only for viewing - you still need to apply the LUT in post. The SLOG3 default is the same as his setup - SLOG3 with S-gamut.cine. But you can go ahead and set it to a picture profile like PP1 and then turn off log shooting and it will still shoot in SLOG3.
Hi Mark! Before the firmware update, my a6700 had no overheating issues at 4k60. After updating to version 1.01, I'm only getting 31 minutes @45M 4.2.0. 10bit 4k60, and 21 minutes @200M 4.2.2. 10bit 4k60 indoors at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Are you experiencing the same issue? Is there any way to go back to the original firmware version?
You won’t be able to go back - but sometimes an update to the firmware can reset your settings - make sure internal temp is set to high. Write back and update me once you’ve checked. Thanks for thre super chat!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis the last test was exactly the same as the first test. Same spot, indoor, aircon set to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Do you think Sony will put out another update for the a6700 anytime soon?
had you connected to the app on step 2, you wouldn't have to do the rest of the of steps as date and time and other setting are updated automatically from the phone app.
Thanks Mark, cool Video! This may be a silly question, but I cannot customise the different dial modes. I can only adjust the manual mode. In custome 1, 2 and 3 I cannot even change the aperature. Maybe you or someone else can help me here :-)
you can set custom mores 1,2,3 to anything you want. out of the box they are setup a certain way. but put your camera in M, adjust all the setting you want go into the menu, go to the Shooting (pic of the camera or video camera if in movie mode) Click on shooting mode and then Camera Set. Memory. choose 1, 2, or 3 to set it to the corresponding number on the dial. when you click it, it will say “Registered” now all of those settings are saved to the dial number you chose. The M1-M4 are only saved to the SD card and will be lost when you format your card - so I don’t use those ones.
Hey @Mark, How do you enable level mark on Sony a6700 display. Im new to camera and I have enabled grid display, but I still can't find settings to enable level
I have my a6600 , and is mainly using it for still photos. I am not into video)). Does it makes sense to upgrade to a6700 for me? Or get another a6600 body for my telephoto lens wildlife set up? Also, I went to my local camera shop-just to get a hands on with a6700, and my concern is about that small spring-hinge that secured the screen in place. At the shop, it was not securing the screen in place and it was impossible to secure it flat to the camera body neither way. I understand that huge amount of customer’s attention to the camera sometimes may be brutal, but…Will it wear out overtime? Thank you!
That happens sometimes I have no idea why. Just insert the card in and out a few times - eventually it will recognize it and it will be fine from then on - at least that's what happened to me.
Thanks for your great video!!! Since I'm having issues with my 6700 overheating (~10min in 4k60, under 1 hour in 4k30 @24°C), what are your correct video settings for testing 4k24, 4k30 and 4k60 runtime? In my tests, I recorded 4:2:2 10-bit in XAVC S instead of XAVC HS in the hope that S would require less computing power and thus the heat generated by the processors would be lower.
I did 4k24 10-bit 4.2.2 10-bit XAVC HS. internal temp set to high (a must) screen open and on a tripod at 22 degrees. if you Clare connected to hdmi, you will see shorter times as well
On your very first video you have posted 4k 60 fps NO OVERHEATING!!! I have just tested mine twice. On a tripod ( same as yours f38 😂) screen open, 23* C in a room. I got only 13 min. I know you gonna mention that Gerarld Undone got the same numbers as yours. Do you guys have “special custom” products for reviews ? Not good at all
Thanks, I've had the exact same experience. 24°C, 4k60 8-12 min depending on how long I played in the menus beforehand or even took a photo. The maximum runtime in 4k60 from a completely cold state was 22 minutes. Since Gerald Undone and you had similarly long runtimes and even my ZV-E10 right next to the 6700 under 4k30 didn't even switch off after 2 batteries, I sent the 6700 back and hope that the next 6700 will perform better. It can't be that a ZV-E10 beats a 6700 under identical conditions!!! It would be a shame if Sony sent you pre-testers preselected cameras and then delivered cheaper models to the customer, which of course are not guaranteed because they didn't mention the runtimes in the specifications.
Well, the second a6700 arrived yesterday and was allowed to warm up today at a room temperature of 21.5°C. in the first 4k60p test (4:2:2 200m, human object detection, M mode, child filmed building Lego - no static image, Tamron 18-300, display folded down). Freshly switched on and started the race with 90% battery, this model showed a completely different, much flatter warm-up curve than my first model. To my astonishment, I stopped the test at 5% battery - NO overheating shutdown - AFTER 106 minutes of recording (~57 °C hot spot body temperature, measured 2.5 cm below the flash shoe in the screen housing recess) !!! So there are definitely big differences on the manufacturer's side and the reviewers' test copies are not preselected versions!
Are the menus in the A6700 all touch enabled or not ??? Reviews and comparison sites say "Yes" it has a touchscreen, but from what I gather, it only has touch focussing operations on the screen. Can somebody please answer this question.
XAVC HS 4K 24P 100M 4.2.2 10Bit vs XAVC HS 4K 24P 50M 4.2.2 10Bit whats the diff? I notice I can run XAVC HS 4K 24P 50M 4.2.2 10Bit all day with no overheating.
32:34 I'm sure Lossless is the full data, and compressed is the smaller file size with some (barely noticeable) loss in quality.
UGH - you're right - I am used to the Sony cameras having Uncompressed Raw in that slot so I read and spoke without thinking. I usually shoot UNCOMPRESSED Raw on the other cameras - on this one I would shoot Lossless Compressed for sure.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Labelling them "Lossy" and "Lossless" would have been clearer on the menu, as they don't offer uncompressed on the A6700

that was the review unit. I made the guide when I had it. but my a6700 is supposed to arrive today
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis you lucky dog
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis week of 8/6 for me. 😩 I think I’ll live though.
I got my lil Dougie a big brother.. a6700.. I named him Mark! 😂
Love the channel.
haha!! This is the correct thing to do
Hey Mark, love your content! can you do a Sony A6700 vs Fuji XS20 comparison please? Very difficult to choose between these two. Thanks!
On the way
This is an awesome overview of capabilities.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Awesome, thanks so much!
Son buenísimos tus contenidos
Thanks so much for this!
Kenya was here!! Respect where is ur juice
always there out of frame haha
Power zoom option not available ?
Excelente video 👏
Thanks!
too kind!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis The five dollars is for the timely upload. I received an email today, my a6700 has been shipped.
Super awesome camara
Eres el mejor 👏
Hello, I want to use focus stacking in studio photography. However, I will need 1.5 seconds for the flashes to charge. Is there a setting to extend the time between photo shoots? Thank you
Great video...again!
Will I be able to use 25 watt wall usb C charger for charging the a6700?
Great Video!
Hello! I have a question, when I switch camera mode to one of three fast modes, I can't change shutter or aperture, any idea how to change this?
What lens was on the A6700 ? Was that just a kit?
Thank you
.
Hi Mark. Does the a6700 has a zoom rocker?
No it does not
So for the Leeming LUT.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis internal temp was set to high. 4k24 had no overheating issues though. You're welcome and thank YOU Mark!
Weird how it was fine before in 4k60 - maybe the ambient temp changed or less airflow?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis the last test was exactly the same as the first test. Same spot, indoor, aircon set to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Do you think Sony will put out another update for the a6700 anytime soon?
had you connected to the app on step 2, you wouldn't have to do the rest of the of steps as date and time and other setting are updated automatically from the phone app.
Where were you when I was recording this?? 😀
Does the Sony 11mm 1.8 and the aps-c Sigma primes work with focus breathing compensation on the a6700?
Thanks 👍
Hi I just shot my first video and used xavc hs 4K. I can’t open on pc or Mac, silly question but do I need davinci or premier to open? Thanks mark!!!
The best
Thank you for the detailed answer and your time
How do you set up the red recording light on the screen for videos ??
Thank you!
If not doing video - keep the a6600 and get more lenses!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you!😊
Do you have a SD card recommendation? Mine is not recognized as a v90, although it says it is a V90
That happens sometimes I have no idea why. Just insert the card in and out a few times - eventually it will recognize it and it will be fine from then on - at least that's what happened to me.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Good to know. Thank you so much.
My arrive today and is overheating too 😞 hopefully shop can replace it
Hello! I have a question: what is the best SDXC card to use with this camera speed-wise, etc.? Thank you!
Sony Tough V90 amzn.to/3xszZTP
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you!!!😊
Are the menus in the A6700 all touch enabled or not ??? Reviews and comparison sites say "Yes" it has a touchscreen, but from what I gather, it only has touch focussing operations on the screen. Can somebody please answer this question.
the a6700 has a full touch screen, menus and everything
2:57 Thats not an information on the card needed, that's the info that you need the hardware/software that's able to play 10Bit 4:2:2 files.
that’s true - should have actually read it instead of rushing through it
ive come from a6500..using always back button focus ..but am not sure if i have to set it up on the a6700..
You can set that up on the a6700 - not in by default
XAVC HS 4K 24P 100M 4.2.2 10Bit vs XAVC HS 4K 24P 50M 4.2.2 10Bit whats the diff? I notice I can run XAVC HS 4K 24P 50M 4.2.2 10Bit all day with no overheating.
Your menu is a little different than mines (USA)
