Excellent comparison/review. One of the best I've ever seen. Just please say the camera names, instead of "this one" and "this one" because it's not always clear which one you're referring to.
For me Sigma 18-50 is the reason I stayed with APSC. Absolutely nothing can beat its size/weight-performance-price ratio. Sony 18-135 is pretty close tho, you can buy it VERY cheap used.
I moved from an A6400 I used for over 2 years to an A7IV 3 months ago. No regrets about my decision so far, massive upgrade moving from an APSC to a full-frame camera for both photography and videography.
Not for me. when I bought my a6400 four years ago, I decided all lenses I buy will be FE lenses so I can upgrade to full frame later. Even so, I just upgraded to the a6700.
Upgraded to an a6700 and the heat makes it shuts down after 11 minutes of 4k24p. There is an aftermarket fan available, but I am using my a6700 for stills and 1080p which does NOT cause the camera to overheat. Recorded a 1080p video for one hour...could have kept going. I have an a6400 too, and I do NOT at all like how the a6700 back LCD screen articulates. It ends up stuck out to the left whereas the a6400 can tilt up or down from the back of the camera. Making it easy to use the camera at waist height or overhead. It is a kludge to quickly get the LCD out and into position. Two card slots is NOT an issue for me. I have NEVER had a memory card fail; just don't use cheap cards! One BIG item you did not mention is the a6700 does focus bracketing; images are then processed on a PC for stacking. One reason I picked the a6700 is it is one of the first Sony cameras with focus bracketing for image stacking. Note the Sony A7RIV does NOT have focus bracketing but the new A7RV does as does the a6700/ Additionally, the 26MP APSC sensor of the a6700 is actually SHARPER, when used for extreme macro photography, than the A7 because the pixels are closer together. I use an 1990s Canon bellows and Metabones FD to e-mount adapter with a 10x microscope objective for extreme macro photography.
One thing that I like about the A6700 is the placement of the video on/off control button. The side loading of the memory card is damn nice too. No longer having to remove the camera from a tripod to change the memory card like I do in the A6600. The lack of dual cards is no problem for me since, I don't shoot commercially. I have decided to stick with crop sensor only since the A6600 has given me wonderful results. The new 70-200mm f/4 G OSS lens also looks interesting - especially the ability to use a TC. I had a TC when I shot with my Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS lens and it was a very handy light weight addition to my travel kit for times that I needed just a bit longer reach!
Minus the dual card slots(I just love the security of redundant recording) I think I honestly will have to go with the 6700. They just packed SO much into that body for such a stupid good price. Fantastic video as always!

I agree bro getting a lot of bang for your buck with this new 6700, Sony really pushing hard. Only thing really left for Sony to work on is their IBS & SSD support, if they could match Lumix IBS and also give us SSD recording straight out of camera. That would be amazing !!! Oh yeah and maybe throw us A7sIII users a bone, with an update would be nice. 😥
I've been waffling between getting a used A7rIV and a 6700. I like the new features but I've been wanting to get a body with pixel shift. in every other way besides that the new camera fits my needs quite well.
I'm amazed at how many "professional wedding photographers" are walking between us today. Put your ego aside guys. The A7iv is an overkill for most casual users and enthusiasts. Get the 6700. Outgrow it. Only then think about full frame options.
Thanks for the awesome comparison video. Just what I was looking for. I am a 67 year old amateur "video first" photographer who jumped in on the A7IV bandwagon frenzy when it came out. I mostly use the camera for travel as I enjoy making videos for my RUclips Channel. I find that the camera and the 24-105 lens is way to heavy to lug around the world. Unfortunately, I find myself using the GoPro or iphone instead in situations where I just don't want to deal with the weight. I am still learning to master the A7iv and the video editing process. I find it to be an incredible hobby in my retirement as I enjoy capturing our travels. The A6700 interests me due to the lighter weight capabilities which would make it easier to travel with. My question is, would it be crazy of me to sell or trade my A7iv and 24-105 lens and get a lighter A6700 with a nicely paired travel lens?
Never had full frame, but even with a6600 I sometimes struggle with space in my backpack and that's the main reason (if we ignore the price), that I'm realizing I won't upgrade to full frame. As the old saying goes - the best camera is the one that you have with you. So IMO go for it. Unless you really need that shallow depth of field
While the a6700 is great in several aspects, it still doesn’t feel “premium” with the lack of second card slot, low quality EVF and LCD, lackluster stabilization in video, max shutter speed of 1/4000 (essentially restricting daytime shooting at no less than f1.8) and the heating issues in 4k 60. We might see something in the future that is “more” premium, addresses these issues and sets the standard for APSC shooting.
Great, detailed video. so help me with this decision. I have and love my a7iv. I need a second body for paid VIDEO projects to pair with my a7iv. Not only as a B-Cam but sometimes a second A-Cam. Should I get a used a7iv or an a6700? I had trouble matching the a7iv image with other cameras due to the sensor resolution. I think there is a case to be made for having both cameras be the same layout as well. But based on this video, the 6700 has to be considered.
About the HDMI sockets, how would you feel if some cameras moved from Micro-HDMI back to Mini-HDMI, which is in-between in size and durability. I think Micro should only be used for GoPros. Most cameras could be designed with Mini without a huge size increase.
I'm lookin for an upgrade from a6100 and for me it's sensor size on the a7iv vs adidtional 70mm of focal length on my tamron 35-150 on the a6700 ( I do sports photography)
Your f-stop DOF will not be 2-2.8 it would be 3-4.2. Watch Tony Northrop’s video on how full frame lenses work on crop sensors. It hampers perceivable megapixels quite a bit, it’s better to use apsc lenses on crop bodies to get its full potential.
I have an a6700 and now it accompanied me on a trip to Jordan. Great, small, inconspicuous, excellent AF. I have it as and add-on to FF, but I use it almost every day on my travels and trips. Yes, the new a7cii is an option but at a much higher price. The a6700 also has better video. Lenses are important, I use 1.4 or 1.8, for traveling a 2.8 zoom is great, even from third parties such as sigma or tamron.
I recommend more text & titles for clarity … (now that the recording is complete.) When you say “this one” it’s not clear which camera you are holding. In some cases, the camera is off screen, which just makes it worse. Ouch, my brain.
Can someone explain to me why so many people still say that full-frame is "better" for professionals ? Literally the only big difference between these two cameras is the sensor size (and thus the DoF) and maybe the single card slots (however there's a bunch of professionals that only use one card at a time anyways)
Because some people would like to know. Plus the 6700 has the newest type of sensor and the camera is newer but cheaper. Its a legit comparison for shoppers
Jason, if possible can you do A6700 26mp VS A7RV cropped 26mp. Two different markets but can one say they have 2 cameras in the A7RV if you consider the 26mp cropped mode? Thanks brother!
If all I did was video and some casual photo shooting on the side, then I’d get the A6700. But since I also do commercial photo work, the full frame A7IV is crucial.
Autocropping mocd - I have seen a few demo videos of this on the 6700 and ZV-E1 and it looks sloppy. Motion blur noise added when in motion, to the cropped-in face of the subject. It's a gimmick at best and you're going to be much better off framing wider and editing the movement in in editing. Retain the full sensor resolution and choose in post.
With AI and Lightroom giving you the ability to add blurred the background after selecting the subject it really doesn't matter now. I'm getting 6700 quality with a 6100 after running it through Lightroom
I've now set aside the money for the A6700 but have two dilemmas. Nr.1 - does it support the Auto Framing even when connected with HDMI - like during the livestream? This is very important for my (guitar playing/teaching) scenarios. Nr.2 - the veeeery significant rumours that Sony is going to upgrade the A7C to mark2 and give it everything A6700 has - but on the full frame. It's also been speculated that the new A7CII will come with 33MP sensor. Hope they don't just move the A7IV sensor into this...
No issue at all for object tracking with the A7iv ? You're lucky ! I photographed many runners and the results are terrible . When you shoot 10 frames of the winner with the green box on the face in the EVF and none of them is sharp , it's just unusable . Sometimes it does take great pictures though.
I think if I didnt already own theA7IV, and I was trying to decide between these 2 cameras, I could convince myself to save money and buy the A6700. However, after coming from the A6400 and moving up to the A7IV, there are things about my full frame A7IV that I would really miss if I didnt have it, better dynamic range, dual card slot etc. Still loving my A7IV, but I wouldnt judge anyone for picking up the A6700 over the A7IV, the value is impressive, about a 1000 dollar difference you could use towards another lens. ..and 4.2.2 10 bit on the Sony APSC line! I used to dream about this camera. Whoever buys this I'm sure will love it.
@CavenInToTheWorld I don't think you can go wrong. It's pretty much a classic full frame vs apsc debate at this point, tho, the A7IV does have a slightly higher mp sensor, so perhaps that's something worth remembering as well if you're someone who crops in a lot in post. Some tradeoffs either way, but both great cameras. As mentioned in the video tho, the A6700 is probably the better value from strictly a financial standpoint.
@Maiden1357 I had both apsc and full frame lenses when I had my A6400. But now that I have full frame, I exclusively have full frame lenses. The full frame lens selection is way more vast than the apsc lineup. I don't like using full frame on apsc too much as they arnt really optically optimized for apsc. For the reasons I listed above, ie., dynamic range etc, I simply prefer full frame at this point. But you could use this new apsc camera with one of the few top tier apsc lenses (56mm sigma) and you would be hard pressed to see a noticeable difference, without some serious side by side pixel peeping, when comparing to a full frame equivalent.
Whether a full frame or an APS-C lens is being used, there is no difference in the "reach" or field of vision. The field of view for a 100mm full frame and 100mm aps-c lens is the same. So no, full frame lenses don't have an "additional" x1.5 crop on that camera. It's just x1.5 for any lens.
I don't like to compromise so I got the a7c a7s3 a74. I can do interviews and multi angles n when I do weddings I can loan my other cameras n pay less for the help
Strangely, I noticed that some reviews said the A6700 overheated after like 20-30 min in 4k30, whole others said it didn’t overheat at all… Does anyone know why?
I've been watching many of your videos and I wonder what's the big deal with rolling shutter speed anyway ? how come whipping the camera with fast rolling shutter is any way better than with a slower rolling shutter ? to me it seems like unusable blurry mess either way except if you are filming sports or something and even then its questionable , like if you have a multicam setup I don't think any director will choose the whipping camera angle .. and for solo shooter that's just unusable footage anyway unless its for filming inside cars or for drones maybe? not sure. and the whole fast rolling shutter is one of fx3\6 main selling points along with the high dynamic range. but I'm thinking that perhaps megapixel count and resolution is better and provides more options for post production even without the best rolling shutter speed.
i love the a6700 tho i think id be better off with fullframe as im a event/ club/ rave videographer and shoot a lot in extreme low light situations. what do you think?
I'm in the exact situation as you are. I run and gun in these events a lot too and many times it's impractical to use a light especially when you want to get canned shots. I'm looking at either the A7C II or the A6700 with faster lenses. There are some great f1.2 APSC lens out now that should boost the A6700 low light capabilities. My other consideration is that the A6700/FX30 and the ZV-E1 are the only Sony cameras under $3000 that shoot 4k 120 fps. I use this frame rate a lot, especially for sports highlights.
I feel like i'm coming into this video looking to make the most important decision of my life.

@@rtquest22 its really sad the a7c mkii wont have the focus joystick but whatever, maybe by then a7iv would go down in price a little bit. or just gets more expensive due to scarcity and everyone buying them at jacked prices
I would have bought the a6700 if it had 2 sd slots, but can't risk to loose a work
Absolutely brilliant video mate! Thank you for the effort you put into this! Much appreciated!
thanks for watching
… amazing camera, as your review, thx! 👍🏻 Finally I get my perfect photography cam to complete my FX30 video kit. 😊
What's more important to me? I have SIX APSC lenses. So I am sticking in that ecosystem for now!
Well, in that sense, you can still use the iv in apsc mode and if you start buying full frame lenses then you won’t have to invest more
I agree bro getting a lot of bang for your buck with this new 6700, Sony really pushing hard. Only thing really left for Sony to work on is their IBS & SSD support, if they could match Lumix IBS and also give us SSD recording straight out of camera. That would be amazing !!! Oh yeah and maybe throw us A7sIII users a bone, with an update would be nice. 😥
thanks bro. Sad to see i don't see sony giving love to a7siii but waiting for the a7siv
I have both and love them both.
I've been waffling between getting a used A7rIV and a 6700.
I like the new features but I've been wanting to get a body with pixel shift.
in every other way besides that the new camera fits my needs quite well.
As a owner of sony fx30 and a6400, I think the a6700 is a secure upgrade, that I want to stay in the APSC system.
@@vandalpauliusyoure struggling for space for a6600 on your backpack? what in the F? lmao
I like your thoughts but the elephant in the room is the up coming a7C ii. Best of both? Good to see you with Mr Black.
The a6700 has three custom buttons. The third one is also the bin button but can be set to whatever you need it to be.
A6700 looks pretty great but not gonna lie, once you go full frame, its hard to back to APSC
Facts
Yea I'll wait on the a7cii
Came for the information, stayed for the crazy-clean studio setup!
Amazing presentation. Thanks❤
Micro-HDMI doesn't change quality when output to an external recorder. It might be a less rugged connection, but it's the same signal.
Extremely helpful!! Thanks a lot.
Best 6700 video we’ve seen. Thanks 🙏
Thanks For The Video.
I bought the a7IV and it's been amazing!
would u still buy it or the 6700? i dont know which one :D
Great review man cheers
thanks
I have an a6700 and now it accompanied me on a trip to Jordan. Great, small, inconspicuous, excellent AF. I have it as and add-on to FF, but I use it almost every day on my travels and trips. Yes, the new a7cii is an option but at a much higher price. The a6700 also has better video. Lenses are important, I use 1.4 or 1.8, for traveling a 2.8 zoom is great, even from third parties such as sigma or tamron.
Any overheating issues? Ty
@@AdamGell overheating no problem
can you use it for professional photos like shooting at a wedding?
I recommend more text & titles for clarity … (now that the recording is complete.) When you say “this one” it’s not clear which camera you are holding. In some cases, the camera is off screen, which just makes it worse. Ouch, my brain.
Can someone explain to me why so many people still say that full-frame is "better" for professionals ? Literally the only big difference between these two cameras is the sensor size (and thus the DoF) and maybe the single card slots (however there's a bunch of professionals that only use one card at a time anyways)
Why we should compare a full frame with a crop sensor?
much more complex than sensor size. all professionals know this
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema I mean different class, different price range.
Must be a lens issue then. MIne works pretty well with Sony GM and G lens
@@ReflectionjournalMain lens is the 70-200 GM II, absolutely perfect on still subjects.
I really want the a6700 but I just decided fx30. It might still be my next camera for traveling! Because I don’t want to take and risk my A7rv
Ordering the a6700...thanks
Great!
I still have my a6600 and thinking of going to upgrade. What do you think is better upgrade? A7iv or a6700.
@@sandboxaperture7013 thanks. Maybe ill sell my a6600 and get the a6700. Cheers!
did you have aps-c lenses? and how did it differ when you went to FF body, or did you start getting FF lenses
What the a6700 brings is what should’ve been in the a7iv
Is it possible that the 6700 has better results with rolling shutter issue than the A7IV ???
please please please make a video of a6700 vs zv-e1 and if you could please include vlogging from both the cameras
I just suscribe. Thanks for the comparison
Full frame always, with a lightweight Prime Lens.
What about getting both
Is there any way to Sony update A7IV to 4K 60 without crop and add 4K 100fps with crop? And also swipe menu and quick menu? Or never?
thx for this in depth review
Thanks for The Video i Keep My a7 IV - I Love it
Thanks for the video... what type of mic and mic stand are you using...Love it
Very good!👏👏👏👏👏 Its a amezing video!!!
I plan to pair these together for photography. If an a9iii get release I'll sell the a7iv to free up some money for that faster photo fps.
I'm out here trying to decide on an a7 iii or the a6700. Upgrading from an a6300.
Absolutely a6700 way better
@vaniaaprillia9495 really? Could you pitch it to me on why?
@@JakepfA7III‘s AF is crap! 6700‘s AF has the latest Sony AI features.

Is the Sony a6700 better than the Sony a7iv in terms of image quality and autofocus. I already have a Sony a7lll
Strangely, I noticed that some reviews said the A6700 overheated after like 20-30 min in 4k30, whole others said it didn’t overheat at all… Does anyone know why?
Apparently you can switch from the default setting (enable high heat), to get longer record times.
Very informative video. Now I don't know if I want to buy the A7RV or the a6700 & A7CII when it comes out.
Stop worrying and wait for the A7RVii or the A6800 or the A7CIIIs or you'll just be wasting your money
Other than some slightly improved video capabilities and autofocus tweaks, it's starting to look like the A6700 isn't an upgrade worth having.
just bought Sony a6700, thanks for your share. What kind of filter will be better? Kase or Nisi?
i love the a6700 tho i think id be better off with fullframe as im a event/ club/ rave videographer and shoot a lot in extreme low light situations. what do you think?
A6700 is better with better lens
I'm in the exact situation as you are. I run and gun in these events a lot too and many times it's impractical to use a light especially when you want to get canned shots. I'm looking at either the A7C II or the A6700 with faster lenses. There are some great f1.2 APSC lens out now that should boost the A6700 low light capabilities.
My other consideration is that the A6700/FX30 and the ZV-E1 are the only Sony cameras under $3000 that shoot 4k 120 fps. I use this frame rate a lot, especially for sports highlights.
What if they’re the same cost? For a new hobbyist photographer
