The mashups are straight out of EU/Legends and the X-Wing series of books. They were called "Uglies" and pirates used them. Can't believe Lego got this one right, good on them! The TIE ball with the X-Wing wings is particularly memorable. They were called Chir'daki which translates as "Death Seed," which were made and used by Twi'leks in number as their mainline homegrown fighter forces.
@@BruceWayne0968 Some of the books are really good, some not so much. Overall the X-Wing series of books were great, with the exception of the very last one in the series. Both of the Han Solo trilogies were also great.
My guess is the reason the spring loaded shooters were located where they were on the Tie was so that when the fighters were mashed together each mashed fighter would get a pair of shooters. If the shooters were in the Tie cockpit pod, the Tie with S-foils would get four shooters while the X-wing with Tie panels would get zero.
Was looking for this comment! It's just a general term for small detailing added with the express purpose of making something look detailed, without actually having a realistic reason to be there. Seems to always show up in scifi spaceships for some reason, people love that chaos of pipes and bumps and stuff i guess.
I like the sloped sides of the front of the X-Wing fuselage, giving it a hexagonal cross-section. I can't believe it took LEGO that long to do it that way on play-scale versions.
With a modification of the landing gear, the X-Wing would look fine on a shelf. And I think this TIE looks like it would go better with the TIE Bomber than the previous version.
Another thing of note is that in canon, the X-Wing uses fueled engines and the TIE Fighter uses Solar Panels (Which are its 'wings') to power its ion engines and weaponry. So the one lacks most of the fuel in the fuselage and the power generation of the solar cells, meaning both are useless!

@@AzulFloIt's an extremely valid complaint that many people have. Rubber bands wear out over time, and once you need a new one you have to find the exact size to replace it, and take apart the entire thing down to it's basic parts to do so. It also just never feels right to use rubber bands in a LEGO set to a lot of people, but that's subjective, unlike the issue with longevity and replacement.
I think this set will be a definite buy! At first i thought its gonna be a huge pass as i expected them to only have the 2021 versions of the two combined with some added wingfeatures, but these look significantly better, the old versions were horrible.
I honestly really like how the X-Wing has the wings open manually. Could easily put it up on the ceiling and not have to modify the set for it to stay in attack position
11:51 If you look at a tie fighter picture the guns are definitely grey, no red at all, and they shoot green lasers so I don't really know what is going on with the red thingies.
Those red bits you can uncover on the back of the X-Wing look to be the Twin Ion Engines for when you slap the TIE wings on it... as the X-Wing engines go with the wings and it'd otherwise be a lame duck.
I mean, the X wing landing gear is quite accurate to the one in the movies since it has 3 "legs". The only problem is that it is way too tall and the one on the front should be on an angle, I suppose modifying it shouldn't be too difficult. I actually like the tie fighter design, but the top is just a no. If I ever get this set, I think I would modify it to have the older top piece, even if it loses the function to open the cockpit, and I'll also remove the spring loaded shooters on both builds

The tie fighter chassis looks really bad compared to the 2021 tie fighter: stickers replace the red engine trust....
The nice thing about getting a new X-Wing every three years is that we can all skip this set because in 2027 LEGO will release a single-pack X-Wing that has all the upgrades of this model as well as an actual wing mechanism.
Another awesome vid! Keep it up!
This is definitely one of the sets of all time
I have neither a x-wing or tie fighter (I would love to have Anakin's Jedi Starfighter), so I was looking towards maybe getting it, since the older ones probably cost a lot now
The older once are not that expensive now. And they're definitely worth it. Its beter to pay a little extra for a better product.
@@imperialhistory6120 I guess, but I don't know when I would even do that because my focus right now is somewhere else
As a collector who likes to resell after retirement, do you think this may be a good investment? Or one of these misses..?
Loved the stream yesterday
This new Tie Fighter is definitely worse than the last one
Um NO IT ISN’T! the only thing I see wrong with it is the top cockpit pieces with the stickers! You think differently?! Then bite me!!>/
@@smolbean3273 It looks less round, and the front non-see-through cockpit piece is ill fitting and looks garbage. people seem to agree with me so you lose hahahah
I think the new one looks better, though I don't like the redesigned top hatch.
@@smolbean3273 you're replying to my comment, obviously I think differently... you sound so immature saying bite me smh
@@IndianaJake probably sarcastic. But yeah to me the last one was perfect and I bought it
