    One thing I find really fun about Starwars ship is just how not fragile they are. I mean these things are a masterpiece of engineering if they can fly across the stars with half their systems missing and a few weld seams holding the frame intact. only be repaired with parts that have been out of use for decades that some one dug out of the mud. Forget real world rockets, you mistaking you engine and the bolts are to weak and every time you use the gear shift it feels like the engine is about to rip its self out.

      This is what I love and admire as well. Of course, even without plot armor, the millenium falcon despite being a literal hunk of junk at this point still kicking is a testament to this fact (especially how damn good corellian engineering is ofc).
      Not to mention the insane deals too!!! Just getting any ship used can save you a lot of credits as well. And of course, the modularity that a decent number of ships have, and should, which is the important component for making any ship great. It goes to speak for itself at length how amazingly engineered these beautiful ships are, and how creative and robust and fascinating they can be.

    I love that Starship in Star Wars refers to almost every mean of transport. In our world, they would be cars, trucks, jet fighters, cruise/leisure/cargo/Ferry/liner ships, gunships. Pretty much everything else than small means of transport (speeders, bikes) and land armor. It's a bit like in the age of sail where a ship was everything you needed to travel that didn't involve a horse (except when it did for some river ships).

    I for one love that the Star ship market is basically the same as the car market in real life. Instead of ships costing trillions of dollars like they would in real life, they actually just cost what everyday over priced new cars cost, and the used prices are around there too. However used prices in the Star Wars galaxy seem to be lower.

    • @celebrim1
      @celebrim1 2 месяца назад +13

      I'm a long time Star Wars RPG game master, and in my universe the explanation for used starships having such low prices is that if you buy a used ship you are typically buying a number of serious problems:
      a) The ship has an empty fuel tank and almost no life support consumables, and the price of fueling a ship fully is a large fraction of the cost of the ship (as many can fly for months back and forth across the whole galaxy on a single tank).
      b) The ship is probably overdue for an overhaul and has developed a number of quirks in its performance that will cause it to perform badly if you push it beyond the routine.
      c) The ship is likely over 30 years old and while it can keep flying it is a maintenance nightmare.
      In short, most used star ships are lemons.

      @@celebrim1 I imagine the regions of the galaxy are much like first-second-and third world countries in the real world in regards to cars. The Outer-rim is a developing third world country where even a lemon is a prized possession. With the exception of more resource rich planets (like cities irl) with nicer starships that may even be new. The Mid-rim is a mix of second and third world. etc... etc... leading up to coruscant being like any other major city with a mix of really new, fairly new, used, and a sprinkle of lemons. Y
      places like Naboo have local manufacturers and most other places rely on distant manufacturers and common parts between ships.

      Considering the galactic economy is literally tens if not hundreds of thousands of planets big it makes sense.
      Remember economies of scale make things cheaper as each part get's a specialized maker who's entire reason for existence is to make part A as cheaply as possible. Considering that literally every backwater world depends on trade for something and is at risk of being raided by hyper militarized space pirates the demand for spacecraft of both civilian and military grade is incomprehensible and the potential suppliers are literally any developed system that can support some kind of domestic craft.

    Liked the mention of T-65s being slapped together in on the fly factories. I often think of the X-Wing as the starfighter equivalent of the AK-47, which makes me wonder whether Incom were truly heroes of the Rebellion to restore the Republic; or, following DJ's hint, maybe they simply take their fighter to insurrections and brushfire wars all over the galaxy looking for clients.

    Just acquired a pre-owned Corellian YT-1300 from a seller named LE-GO. Anyone have a pair of landing gears? Apparently these were sheared off during a brush with an asteriod. I have a couple of passengers (some old fossil, a snarky farm boy plus two droids) that need a ride to Alderaan. Will pay in spice, no questions asked. Thanks in advance, glad I happened upon your channel.

    This seems to me like a direct reaction to all the frustration among STAR WARS-fans today, who are disappointed by the general course this franchise is taking, while there still is no clear vision of the stories that should be told or said stories' core values. One thing that STAR WARS has always been good at is exactly this, starship design with a distinct look and feel to it, the exact minutiae of these fictional technologies, right down to the imagined cost of them

    I just want the Ebon Hawk.
    Though, I will say I do really like the affordable Y-Wing bombers. The darn things were almost indestructible in Battlefield 2 (PS2) and dominated space battles, able to engage everything from interceptors to capital ships. It's just a shame it couldn't double as a mobile home.
    The YT-1300 really is the best all-rounder at an affordable price, plus you can live in it.

      Blaster Producers: *whistling uncomfortably on a pile of credits*
      That's a fascinating thing ive realized watching the whole "whatever" Built America shows on History was how many food companies survived and became titans by making food for the military. I can only imagine the ration barons that were made by the Clone Wars, only to get nationalized and made into pseudo nobility by the Empire.
      I also wonder exactly how the interwar pipeline for ships worked with the First Order, did they build secret branches and production facilities in the Unknown Regions and just smuggle components, materials and parts or were they building them in the Republic then shipping them out. Either way that must have been a massive illicit operation, even as incompetent as the Republic was a blind deaf comatose lobotomy patient would have noticed Star Destroyer's worth of stuff disappearing.

    • @GenerationTech
      @GenerationTech  2 месяца назад +4

      I think you risk destroying the ring shipyard, also we have to remember the kuat system defense force was no joke. We did a video a while back about how they were basically too big to fail… so most governments tried to work with them.

    • @killingragethrowback
      @killingragethrowback 2 месяца назад +1

      @@GenerationTech Right now Kuat is a net loss to the Republic. If they can't take it over, at least if they take it out they remove one of the pillars supporting the Empire and the First Order, though I still have to do math on the actual cost of doing this in lost ships and men if those defenses really are so strong.

    People often focus too much on the specifications of equipment. Like... yeah, maybe your tank is the best in the world with every bolt handcrafted by artisans, but that's not going to matter when the enemy can field fifty ok units for your 1 fantastic one, and you can't fix it because everything is so specialized that you can't find any spare parts for it.
    Of course that's cold comfort to the crew of the ok vehicles that get blown up.
