I'm an economics student, and I absoluetly love watching Star Wars videos like these, to help me further my understanding of a galaxy far far away. I recently opened up to my family and friends about creating my own sci-fi fantasy universe, and these videos really help to widen my lense and help me to become a better story teller. I really appreciate that you have these really deep talks about Star Wars and the economics and politics within the SW universe and relating it to real life. It feels enriching, because, through these videos, SW is more than just a cool universe with massive battles aliens and good and bad people, it's more than those things, just like in real life; that's part of the point of my sci-fi fantasy universe. To tell a weird wacky story with many different moving parts with all the things we can all still nerd out on and happily get lost in it, and at the same time enrich that world with grounded material to make it more relatable and have it truly make sense instead of simply hoping that it all just works in the end. These videos make me appreciate SW in ways I never would have thought, at the same time they make my own stories all the more interesting. Thank you for making this video
I highly reccomend the novel Darth plagueis, it goes over the entier buildup to the election of Sheev palpatine. Hego Damask II, the one who tought palpatine, and a muune who set up most of the economic and political climate for the prequels. He also has a high position in the intergalactic banking clan, and the book is mostly about politics, corruption, market manipulation, and the training of palpatine. It's a wild ride to read. It also makes the prequels a way better read, as you see hints here and there, and the overall plot happening in the background. The book end before ep2, but it's setup casts a shadow over the entier trilogy. It also makes the clone wars series a better watch, as you see palpatine, realy taking plagueis plans to newer hights

1:02:00 To better illustrate this point, when it entered the war the US massively ramped up manufacturing. When production hit its peak output was being measured in trucks per second. Not only did the US raise an enormous army seemingly overnight from nowhere, they churned out enough trucks and armored vehicles to drive themselves and their allies across battlefield Europe, plus enough ships to carry out all across the ocean, and they didn't bring any horses. The Americans did this for a war halfway around the world and Germany couldn't manage it within their own borders. The German military was still heavily reliant on literal horsepower. The astronomical discrepancy in manufacturing capacity is a major part of why Hitler wanted to keep the US or if the war, and that was before they overhauled their methods of manufacturing military equipment.
Great to hear all this insight from Alan's Asset Advisory. It would be interesting if there's ever a Star Wars story about the economics and shady business behind the scenes; Last Jedi tried but definitely not enough time could be put in that subplot.
I really don’t understand how the republic could be at ease without a professional army to defend itself against thief or pirate… and like how where they permitting supercorporation to create conglomerate and take over a complete market to make a monopoly over something 😵💫

Something that I would like to know is how much military members per 1000 citizens does the Empire have. For example, North Korea has about 57 military members per 1000 citizens, so 5.7% of the population actively serving. Is the Empire supposed to go higher than that?
@generationtech, could you cite your reference material in the description. I want to read the stories myself. I'm so interested in the defection of the incom engineers.
I wonder about the designers of the TIE series. The ones without shields, etc, at least. Were they anti-Empire? Maybe they did away with shields, etc, to increase their loss rates. No hyperdrive, limit their use to requiring a mother ship and add to their logistical costs. Of course, then they come up with rationales to justify the flawed design features. "Can't defect without a hyperdrive." Or no shields will "make pilots more determined to win." Etc, etc.
The banks weren't interested in sub prime mortgages. They were either financially incentivized to do so by government tax cuts or funding or were ordered to provide offers to at risk demographics depending on the exact year.
The Empire would probably Nationalize Bacta, Tibanna and Weapons industries so I’d focus on investing in gemstones and precious metals. Aurodium and Gems may fluctuate in prices from place to place but they’re accepted everywhere in place of imperial credits.
Sorry Generation Tech ,but it wasn't solely the real life banks greed that caused the housing crash, it was also Government and Fed mandates that All lenders ,ie banks , HAD to lend to people based on skin color and not solely financial risk/benefits analysis, so in other words the government FORCED banks to lend to risky Borrowers with NO GUARANTEE of repayment. So when the market started to go bad cause of growing debt via inflation/ money printing and national debt lenders weren't able to get the money lost from borrowers who didn't have any capability to pay Even the interest on home loans so banks went under, the government and Fed printed more money and bailed out the banks while inflating our currency more, all while bank CEOs took said free money to give themselves billion dollar bonuses
