    Hey Darren here from Ottawa Ontario with a 03 f150 7700. Love the videos you put out and in such great detail! I had tc shudder as well but with a tranny fluid change with filter had fixed that issue. The previous owner had used it to tow a 26ft camper, nit sure if that has caused the wear snd maybe failure but it has sloppy shifts and seems to slip a bit in 2nd gear when I try and get on it and accelerate! I thought maybe my thrittle position sensor might play a role in it but not sure! I have done lots of work on the truck and really appreciate the help your videos bring! I have the 4r100 unit and now seeing this and how nice itt shifts I think I will order the shift kit for my tranny! I only have 147k kms on my truck and is in good shape so count yourself good at maintaining your truck since you have 3 times the milage! For the quality of work you do you should have way more subscribers! Great channel. Also have a black lab that I adore! Thanks again and take care!

      Thanks very much for that awesome comment! I hope to get more subscribers soon, please share my channel! By the way, with regard to your comment about slipping shifts. The shift kit should clear that up quite nicely. But, also consider that with an older transmission, one of the problems is fluid management. Parts wear causes fluid leak around valves and shift accumulators. I went the extra mile which really cleaned up the shifts. This could help your slipping issue. I was sure to replace anything I could that did not require pulling the transmission. I still have an extra transmission in my garage waiting on a rebuild, but my tranny is so solid now, no need!

    I was going to do some other performance mods after the headers, but I think this work is gonna take precedence. Replacing leaking trans cooler lines, this shift kit and upgrades! again thanks for the videos!

      Went to Shift Rite Transmissions for their parts... I was hoping to hear from you based on this message: "By the way, are you open to sponsoring channels? I have a friend with a 2004 Sport Trac that has the 5R55E tranny and has overdrive issues which I think is fluid circuit issues. I think your shift improvement kit will resolve. Any ideas on partnership?"

    Hope all is going well with your transmission. I do this type of work every day. You mentioned not wanting to open up the transmission again in the near future. Amazon has a way of teaching you how to replace parts you just replaced very quickly. The stuff you find on Amazon is very cheap because those are parts that's failed quality control at the manufacturer. The manufacturer doesn't want to throw away those failed units because often as much as 30% of the production fails. That's a lot of money they would lose out on. They wholesale the parts out for pennies on the dollar.

      wow, that is amazing, & great information, thanks for sharing. My transmission has been running well without the OD shudder since I performed all the work in these videos. Only problem I have is hard shifts from 1st to 2nd, likely from the shift kit and tough plate, and a clunky downshift from 2nd to 1st. I have another transmission in the wings that I've already disassembled and I'm getting ready to prep for the rebuild. I do need some guidance on the rebuild kit. I want a good, robust kit that will last. Any thoughts? I want the truck to last. I'm also considering Hughes Performance Torque Converter to get a few hundred additional rpm stall speed for better towing and performance around town. Any further guidance from you will be greatly appreciated.

      @@DrivingIntelligence I just finished doing my own 4r70 out of my 06 f150 with a 4.2l, I was surprised with the result at first because I didn't do anything to the valve body other then replace the 1 gasket. My "deluxe kit included all the vb gaskets, check balls, screens seals and other sealing elements. The shift kit you installed, did it include a new spring to be installed with the sonnax part part you showed. If so I would be confident in saying that's the cause of the issue. The shift kit springs are not the greatest. They are better then a broken spring or missing spring but I try to stick with the original springs whenever possible. If you still have the original springs you removed and replaced, use those. I know its a lot of work but it's less work then having to do another rebuild or possibly replacing differential. Those hard shifts are terrible for engine and trans mounts, ac lines where rubber is crimped to aluminum tubing instead of being gently flexed during normal operation they are jerked on. Exhaust manifolds can crack for this same reason. U joints. Pretty much everything attached to the engine as well as the rest of the drive line will begin to wear or fail faster. Sorry to hear about the hard shifting, these companies sell you a product that claims to be a problem solver but in reality it causes more issues then it cures. Let me know how it turns out. By the way thanks for the video. This weekend I'm going to do the valve body on my trans I rebuilt.

      appreciate the additional info. I've been able to get the shift pressures down by using a tuner, it doesn't chirp the wheels except when I hit the throttle hard. I just want a smoother shift. I replaced the 1-2 accumulator springs using those that came with the shift kit. I called the kit manufacturer about the hard shifts and they said I might have over drilled one of the holes in the tough plate allowing too much fluid flow causing the harder 1-2 shift. I believe my torque converter is worn as the previous owner did alot of heavy towing with this truck. If I get that far, replacing the torque converter, I'm putting in a refreshed transmission. But for sure, all of your points make very good sense.

    What would you recommend….. I really liked the video because I want to rebuild my tranny for more power (performance) but I saw on the comments that you were having problems with the shifting I don’t know what to do… also when im on P and go to D there’s like a clank noise or some times R to D or visebersa not sure what’s the problem

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  Год назад +1

      That clank or clunk problem sounds like something is loose or worn in the driveline. Have you checked operation of the drive shaft including u-joints and the attachment at the transmission and rear axle? The input to the back of the transmission from the drive shaft may be worn, same with the pinion gear bearing at the front of the differential. Check those areas and get back to me.

    A bottle of shudder fix will instantly cure it. I drop the pan, change filter, replace with Mercon V and add one tube of lube guard shudder fix. The shudder totally goes away. I'm at 223k and still drives and tows great.

      @vegasfordguy I’ve covered this goo in another of my videos as well as other products. I have a full playlist on this transmission. If the vehicle doesn’t have good fluid management as I mentioned in this video, the goo you recommend will not work. The transmission in this video was worn and needed new valve body components as well as accumulators to restore line pressure.
      But you keep using goo to fix all your issues.

      @@DrivingIntelligence Your truck must not have been maintained very well. I've watched some of your videos and the amount of issues that you've had are insane. Mine is still going strong with nearly 230,000 miles. Never had the valve covers off. No leaks from anywhere, all original accessories, etc. Just regular maintenance, engine, trans and fluid changes, brakes, tires, etc. These are exceptionally reliable trucks. The amount of problems you've had just doesn't make any sense. Appears to have been beaten to death at some point.
