Do you have a video on how to rebuild the 4r70w transmission with that master rebuild kit? If so i could use the link to rebuild my transmission thank you for the link to the rebuild kit
Hey I would really appreciate a video on how compatible these transmissions are to swap them from different years. I’m trying to get a transmission for. My 98 f150. I’m wondering if I can go up or down in transmission years. And what needs to be modified if not a direct fit.
I recently a 2000 Ford F150 4.2L. It had been sitting for a couple years because prior owner had a relative replace the transmission and once finished it no longer had any power. It drove no faster than 15MPH . I thought for the money it would be a decent project. Im close to regretting it now. Ive spent some time on this and have enjoyed learning about both the engine and the transmission. Im a Dodge girl, been with my 1998 Dondge Intrepid 3.2L since she was new. Now Im taking on something that someone has monkeyd with and I do not have any experience with trucks or transmissions to even begin to guess what the prior individuals did! So here is where things are getting rough. I pulled 4 pending codes: P1747, P1120, P0340 and P0743. Since 3 of the 4 were on the same circuit I started looking at transmission harness for a bad ground or damaged insulation. What I found was their was no damage to the harness but their also was nothing to plug into the last sensor on drivers side, the speed sensor I believe. I am perplexed as to why this is missing from the harness. It is likely the reason the truck has no power and had a top speed of 15mph. As for the codes, I found a serious issue at the starter. There are 3 wires coming down to starter on was cut off and instead of repairing it they left it exposed and seriously close to frame and starter. They ran a new battery cable down the length of the wiring to replace what was cut off. I wish I had paid more attention how they wired it but I never thought someone would make such an obviously dangerous mistake. Ive replaced that entire harness too battery., but need to figure out the transmission harness issue. I have no way to contact prior owner so I do not know if the truck has incorrect transmission or if the salvage yard sold them the wrong wire harness with the transmission or if they paired up the tranny with a circus of 4R7OW , 4r75e, 70e, a circus money and a clown. Please help. Fords tranny is mindbending enough without having someone booger up their work. Im worried I might have to get a new tranmissions and Im not big enough, strong enough or experienced enough. Please help this Dodge girl gone Ford.
Hello Pattie The fact that there is no connector aka pigtail to plug into the input speed sensor on the drivers side tells me that the original transmission had just the single output speed sensor. In other words Bad news, the previous owner installed the wrong transmission. The codes are indicating problems with Solenoid A, also TPS throttle position sensor. Cam Sensor and Torque converter soleniod. Youll need to get the correct transmission then you will still have the TPS and Cam sensor issues to resolve and probably a few more with an 18 year old vehicle. BTW I still have a 1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.2L. But I haven't driven it in years because the sun roof leaked and Im allergic to mold.
SO correct. i have people argue with me because someone at the Ford counter said this or that and what I'm saying isn't the same thing. I have to remind people that HUMANS....even Ford part counter employees...even the people who create the catalogs make mistakes. I had a guy complain about a metal heater hose I refurbished. I took the hose and put it in an acid bath to remove all paint, rust and contaminants. I then repainted it, pressure tested it and installed a new o-ring. He complained stating it was rusted and did not have the correct orange o-ring. Mind you, this guy claimed to be a former Ford mechanic. I said, you did not or will you find a single molecule of rust and secondly just because the o-ring I used is not orange does not mean it does not meet Ford specification for Viton o-rings. Ford happens to have the resources and buying power to have the supplier MAKE o-rings any color they want. Why? So that employees during the manufacturing process don't have to guess between a handfull of different black o-rings. All they have to do is remember that heat tubes get orange. Oh and I forgot.....for leather seats there are perfectly gray cows being raised. Jesus.
You claimed that the bellhousings are the same when showing the 2 and 3 bolt starter patterns. The bellhousing pattern is slightly different between the 2 and 3 bolt starter types. 3 bolt is for the 4.6L and 2 bolt is for the 302/3.8/4.2 engines. The 4.6L motors use the dowel pins to align and bolt the engine and transmission together. The top 2 bolts are the same, but only one other hole matches the same pattern.
I have a 2005 f150 4x4 5.4l triton with what I believe is a 4r75e and it has a input speed sensor. I know this 2005 has it cuz I pulled it and tore it down. Now I gotta rebuild it.
Thank you for this video. I would suggest that you zoom out a little. For example, at 3:26 you refer to a hole. But you are zoomed in so much that I can't tell where on the transmission I should even look for it.
Ok I watched all the videos on the 4r70/75 transmissions and the only way they show how to tell the difference in them is tear them apart. Well what if you don’t want to tear them apart. Is there any other way to tell the difference?
Thank you for commenting. As I explained near the end Two frustrating things make external ID nearly Impossible. One 4R75W come with one or two-speed sensors. So most with 2 sensors might be a 4R75W but could be a late 4R70W. To make things worse There are also 4R75E's out there with 2-speed sensors and do not have the wide ratio planet set.
I had a early model 1997 f150 4.6l 4r70w 4x4 with a electric transfer case and the trans was bad and converted a 1998 E150 4.6l 2x4 4r70w to a 4x4 to fit my f150 and all I had to do is disassemble the two of them and swap the output shaft assuming you have a transfer case and the housing and in theory this works from 1997 to 2003 for the 4r70w I don't know about 5.4l as I have not tried it. You may not need this information anymore since this question is 4 months old but just incase this was my experience.
I know this is old, but it's really good information! One thing I'm trying to get good information on is whether or not the 4R75W/E geartrain can be transplanted into the older AOD housing. I have read that the guts from an AOD-E and a 4R70W/E will work, but I'm not sure how reliable the info is, because they never show pictures or explain how it's done or what you need to do the job. I have read that there is a difference in one of the drums that the tabs go 6 on the older one, and 18 on the later...?
how do you figure out which transmission is your crown vic i just got a 2006 crown vic lx and idk which transmission is in it and can’t find anything on it
I have two questions I have a 1995 Lincoln Town car that makes the rumble strip vibration sound coming from the transmission I use that dr. Medic transmission thingit worked a little bit and then it stopped working do I have to rebuild the transmission? And the second question is I have a 1956 Ford Fairlane that my father owns And he cannot push the clutch anymore what automatic transmission will bolt up to that y block
I know this video is old but I have a 2000 E150 with the 4R70W transmission, the single sensor port on the transmission I believe is the input sensor and the output sensor is located on the top of the rear differential.
Actually in 2000 Thats the output speed sensor on the 4R70W and the speed sensor for the RWAL in the differential. Ironically if either goes bad it can cause shifting problems. Also take the one out of the Diff every 50K miles or so and clean the metal off of the tip. This will prevent it from throwing a code and replacing a perfectly good sensor by mistake.
Quest the internals of the 4R70W is same gear and ratio of 4R75W CAN I SWAP PARTS JUST LOST REVERSE ON 4R75W AND HAVE GOOD 4R70W IN MY SHED OR CAN I JUS SWAP ONE FOR THE OTHER /I SEE ON DIFERENT EXTRA SENSOR ON 4R75W . IF SWAP NEED CHANGE THE WIRE CABLE FOR THE 4R70W CONFIGURATION . GIVE AN INFO APRECCIET
There are only 2 length tail housings The longer one for trucks and lincoln the aprox. one inch shorter one for passenger cars. There are a few different output shafts I made a video about those because it gets complicated ruclips.net/video/FOs4vA5_ae0/видео.html
Mercury marauder, Lincoln Towncar and the all the crown victoria police interceptors got the longer tailshafts. Longer tailshafts allows for the shorter driveshaft for higher top end speed.
What was the difference between the 4x4 4r70w 1997 4.6l v8 i dont know why there are 2 different ones of the 4r70w 4x4 what is the difference between them
TKS FOR THE EXCELLENT VIDEO HAVE A QUESTION I HOPE U CAN HELP ME. I HAVE A 2004 F150 4.6 WITH 4R70E BAD TRANSMISSION MY QUESTION IS: CANI REPLACE IT FOR A TRANSMISSION FROM A 2004 FORD EXPEDITION 4.6 I THINK HAS THE 4R70W? WELL I ALREADY DID AND IM HAVNG THE CODES P0715 P0717 AND P2106. ARE THEY COMPATIBLE? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
The Computer sees the different ratios of the (W) wide ratio planet set as gear ratio errors aka meaning the computer thinks its slipping in every gear but third. Therefore nope not compatible.
Did ford add the input speed censor when they went to an electronic throttle body? I'm guessing the censor would help with torque management during shifts but I dunno.
Nope they added it intermittently and sporadically. There seems to be no logical pattern nor consistency to when and which vehicles got the input speed sensor.
Have a problem, 2014 e350 ford van no id tag on transmission found another van (2013) same engine and its a e350 also will they have the same transmission. Thanks
looking for info on a 2007 crown vic transmission,4r75,what adapter and tcase would i need to convert to 4x4 for a ranger swap,im new to fords,im a jeep guy so any info would be great help
I've got a 1995 f150 with a 5.0lv8 and my truck transmission has a block where the drives shaft enters but I have a leak either above my pan or it's my pan and gasket after shop replacement so my question is which transmission do I have for sure and is there a gasket or seal in between the transmission and tail block
@@saneauto Thanks! That means is not where is leaking from. Truck sits sometimes and I drive a compact car to beat around town. While sitting the truck leaks transmission fluid from the from of the transmission.
Ive got a 91 mustang Lx auto. I am having an issue and am trying to find info out. I am having a small issue. I am confused on what trams is in it. Is an AOD different than a 4r70w or 4r75 etc? Is the AOD its own trans and have no number to reference it as? Should i just be searching 1991 v8 AOD transmission for the reference to mine? Thanks if you answer or not. I still learned something from this video
1991 was the first year of the AODE transmission. AOD was produced and installed fro 1980-1993. To see which one you have look for the big electrical plug AOD doesnt have one
Im years late but please i need help My trans in my 2007 grand marquis gs blowed it wasn't shifting into 2nd at all it would try too REV but it didn't move i have a 2002 MGM TRANS laying around i need too know how could i make it work in my 2007 MGM
my 2006 has an input speed sensor and it is an E-250. Why is that? It also has the connector on harness. It also has a giant W on the tailhousing. Does this mean its a 4r75e-w?
The W on the tail doesnt mean much. The fact that it is a 250 does make it very likely that it is a 4R75W behind a 4.6L because otherwise it probably would have been a big 4R100 in that E-250
@@saneauto it is a 4.6 and I don't think the 4.6 was mated with any other trans (of this year). I don't believe it is a W, I believe it to be an E because it has an electronic lockup. Input s, output s, Selector S and valve body 12? pin. The 5.3 had 3 options for trans in 2006 and 4 final drive options for the e250. The 2006 E250 had the highest combined tow/cargo rating of any econoline of any year but what made them rate it that way without major changes. Riddle me that batman.
This was mostly from memory of building these for over 25 years. When I first start on an unfamiliar unit I always buy an ATSG manual like this one amzn.to/2IXWPGE I scribble notes in them as I learn so if I forget something I can always go back and check the manual &/or my notes.
Burned out looking for my tailstock part. 2005 f150 xl 5.4l. pan looks like a 4r70W. rectangled pan. Door tag says A. Can't find any build code A info.. Any ideas?
Hello! I just got this 2002 f250 SD 5.4 gasoline 4x4 automatic and the transmission doesn't match with all parts that I'm buying to do the necessary repair as sensors, shifting stuff, plus. I would like to know if was possible or is possible install on the gas truck the transmission of the 7.3 diesel auto? Thanks. The label over the oil pan is: 9R 1C3P-BC PRB-GE 00022211 next code number or letter not able to read but it shows ...BD-1H15 . Thank you again!
Your Mustang GT is probably a 4R75W and the Crown Vic could be any variation. The tail and output shaft are the same length though. The Lincoln and Ford trucks have the longer shaft and tail.
What do you do if you have a f150 with a door tag trans code of “A” which is the np435 which is a manual transmission and mine is automatic... for temp I was gonna go to junk yard but it seems Ford was really dumb on this one I don’t have the means to rip the trans apart before I get it so how do I know what trans I have and what trans I’m getting especially if I can’t rely on the door tag
just a little info for you i have a 2005 2wd f150 with a 4.6 and a 5L3P-7000-BA (dealer said 4r70E) it has two sensors on the drivers side . I am replacing the trans right now with a used one from a identical truck, same trans tag number also 2 sensors on the side but the tail shaft is different mine has no speed sensor in the tail housing extension. the replacement does and is longer by like 1/8 inch and has a longer seal then mine ..so 3 sensors on some ? ..i will get some pics/vid while they are out if your interested
Nice info I would love some pics of those you can reach me on Facebook at Victor Sane we also have a Sane Auto Facebook page where you can share pictures, info, Video and questions.
can you use a 4R70W where a 4R75W was the one it had on a Lincoln town car 2005? I would apreciate you'r help, since I'm stuck with that Dilema thank you
yes i was about to commeNT ON THAT it actualy change in 2003 from one to 2 exactly input and out put, as a matter of fact I sold the 4R70W and today the 28 of sep just got the original one and i think its the 4R75W it came from a Lincoln town car same year and everything, so thanks aniway ill install the transmission tomorrow lol
Iv got a 1995 Ford Thunderbird with 4.6v8 and automatic transmission iv asked junk yards about a transmission for it they say it has to come out of a 94 or 95 Thunderbird or cougar why is that
It should have everything I mentioned here like if they both have the long tail output shaft the same number of speed sensors the same number bolt holes for the starter etc. Just check them both over really well
Okay, Will do. Had some places tell me no and some tell me yes. No one could tell me why. Thanks for the good advice and keep making videos. You’re the best !!
Well im a bit more confused now. I thought the differences with the extra speed sensor mea t it was a E version. I thought both 4r70w and 4r75w are the same except for the stronger material in the internals...
I bought a used trans online for my mustang and I keep getting speed sensor codes. How can I tell if they gave me a mustang trans or one out of another ford vehicle. Is it possible that the reluctor ring is bad? I have intermittent speedometer and shifting problems on hot days. Cool days it runs with no problems.
Ive never seen a reluctor bad. The speed sensors do go bad and are easy to replace. What year is your mustang? If you replace an 4r70W with an AODE you can have the same problem. but I would still try a new speed sensor first. The output speed sensor for the late 1990"s mustangs looks like this one amzn.to/38yCNhf
I work at a junkyard pulling parts to send to a remanufaturer. How can I easily identify an 4r70w while it is still mounted on the vehicle. Is it just the one sensor and the cast W on the case? Any advice would be appreciated💪
I actually cover that in this video. The E and the W can both come with 1 or 2 sensors. However if your pulling it from the vehicle you have access to vehicle information VIN code and door sticker info. Most of us dont have any of that.
Thank you for commenting. 1998 comes with a 4R70W. Check out my Mustang GT project Videos In those Im working on the 1997 Convertible Mustang GT with the same transmission. Please subscribe its free to sub and we will be demonized soon if we don't get enough subscribers.
saneauto thank for the help, one more question though, the Lincoln mark 8 that have the DOHC 4.6L, do those Lincoln’s have a 4R70W in them too? I’m trying to do an engine swap in my car but don’t want to do a manual trans swap. I was going to take the PCM out of the Lincoln and use it in the mustang to mate the cobra 4.6 with an auto trans.
Sorry, RUclips never notified me of this comment. The Lincoln Tail housing and output shaft is a full inch longer than non-Lincoln so you would have to have the driveshaft shortened and balanced.
Did the 4r70w come out of a truck? does it have 1 or 2 speed sensors? Does your stang have 1 or 2 sensors does it have an E or W? Did you whatch the video? As far as the engine swap NO not without a lot of mods wiring harness computer etc
I have a 92 Ford Pickup with a aod transmission in it I would like to a later model Transmission in it I can get a control kit but tis a later model transmission fit the 5.0 motor
This is one of my older videos. Ford started changing Bell patterns around 1998 and again in 2004 maybe again later on plus there are different bells for the 3.8L maybe the 4.2L as well.
70W and 75W are not identical. Because you seem to have the same # of sensors. Theres a good chance It may be similar enough to work. Even though its different years too. Unfortunately you dont know for sure till you have already installed it and try it out. 2 clues in your favor are 1) they are both wide ratio planet sets. 2) Same solenoids from 1999-2004 on both 75W and 70W
@@saneauto Thank you. I just finished sending a message to Ford Motor Co., in regards to my tranny questions. I know they are flooded with questions and don't expect a response soon. Nevertheless, the fire is set under the pot. Let's see how it plays out. If I have to do many mods to the ECM or cutting wires and or making some hacking to the electrical system I may just end up overhauling the Mustang GT tranny. It's best to follow the path of knowledge and experience.
@@saneauto Hello Mr. Sane, I was outside measuring the tranny's. Seems the 4r75w tail housing ( 11 1/2" ), is 1" longer than the 4r70w ( 10 1/2" ). The tail shaft seem to be the same size in diameter ( 1 1/4" ).
I just bought used 2000 expedition eddie bauer . all wheel with 4l 4h 5.4 triton any chance you would know what type transmission it is i wanted to drop pan and change fluid and filter ?
Probably not that should be a 4R100. But you cant tell by what ford should have put in there because they dont follow there own rules. I show a 2007 3/4 ton Ford Van in the video that according to the manual should have come with a 4R100 or at least a 4R75W however Ford put a 4R70W in it. It also has 5.4L. You have to look and see what you have.
It could have because the 4R70W is rated at 700 nm torque capacity roughly over 500 ft lbs. A 1997 stock 5.0L does not produce near that much. However If the vehicle came with a tow package it may have been equipped with the much larger higher capacity E4OD.
If it came with an AOD then yes. If it came with any other transmission then just about the only thing that will be the same is the bell-housing bolt pattern
@@rashadramsey3011 Not without completely disassemble of both transmissions and you would need at least a reseal kit or Overhaul kit so you will have the new gaskets to put it all back together.
Hello, Saneauto, i had rebuild a 4R75W, Trans. but. But no shift, i had clean valve body,i scan, sensors read good, only go drive a rev.but not shifting 2,3,4. pls help.
Many many mistakes can cause this. Start with checking all the connectors sometimes we forget to plug something in or not plugged all the way in. Check for pinched wires. Any codes? Blown fuses? Mode switch aka PRNDL. Just a few to get you started.
I have a 00 mustang gt i found a 4r70w in a 98 lincoln mark 8....my question is are they the same transmission and do i have 2 make any changes to make it work correctly
Yes but the whole transmission has to be disassembled to change the output shaft. Then you have to reassemble. So you would need at least an overhaul kit. It is almost as much work as an overhaul so you might as well rebuild it while your in there. That requires some more parts. Its gonna turn into a big expensive project. Yep Ive been there done that.
Well what the problem im having is i did a pull n my mustang gt from low 1 thru 2 it never made it to 3rd....i had a bad battery n the car shut off mid pull and the starter enguaged while moving( which i dont think hurt anything) but the trans made a loud grinding noise as if i put it in reverse until it shut off.....and now its locked solid...i cant get the car 2 start tried turning the crank but its jammed....i pulled the car home backwards n it rolled fine in reverse but with the car off i tried 2 push it in drive and theres resistance....i cant seem 2 free it up....and i dont even know where 2 begin...i was just gonna replace the trans but im having a hard time finding a gt trans for my price range n was tryin to make something else work
That catalog isnt made any more its really old. Almost as old as me LOL. It came from one of my old parts suppliers. I might be able to get a newer version for around $100.
what is involved in swapping a 4r70w and a 4r75w? I have a 03 f150, blown tranny. I have a motor and trans out of a car casting # *RF-F3UP-7A040-AA* is it basically a direct bolt on?
BTW that casting #F3UP-7a040-aa is used on tail housings of some of the 4R70w & e and 4R75w & e It was used from 1993 to mid 200? There are 3 other tail housings used on these one is an inch longer for Lincolns and is on units with a longer output shaft. The other 2 have different size hole for the other size output shaft seal.
It's not a situation where you can safely swap some parts from one to another and make it work. IF and I mean IF one is a 4R70W and the other is a 75W. Then you have to be aware early 70 had one speed sensor the later 200? 75 had two speed sensors. Mid 200?'s had a one and two sensor version of both the 70 & 75 there were at least three casting #s that will not verify for sure weather you have a 70 or 75. Confusing right. The 70 & 75 use a differant computer and differant software. There are more than one EPC solenoid etc. Long story short, If you start swapping these units you have to verify what the unit is, in the vehicle (useing VIN research etc.) before you take it out. That way you know weather it is a 70 or 75. Then only swap 70s with 70s and 75s with 75s. W's with W's. Never swap 70 with 75 never swap W with E.

Jesus.
I agree. I also get a lot of comments from inexperienced people complaining about the color antifreeze I use.
Yes, 4X4 with 5.4L should be at least a 4R75E if not a 4R100
Will any 2002 grand marquis transmission fit if it comes from a same car? They keep saying they need the transmission id number
No it will not Need to know if it has 2 speed sensors or one. Also engine size or just the Trans code from the drivers side door sticker.
Excellent video.
Is there a way to make a single speed sensor 4r70 work in a truck that originally had a dual speed sensor 4r70?
No, sorry
can you use a two bolt starter or three bolt starter pattern on same truck
How can you tell the difference between a 4R70E and a 4R70W ?
Will the out speed sensor work in place of a truck with two sensor harness
Did the 4r70w come in 2wd with the 302 bellhousing
Thank you for this video. I would suggest that you zoom out a little. For example, at 3:26 you refer to a hole. But you are zoomed in so much that I can't tell where on the transmission I should even look for it.
Thanks for the tip. Id like to go back and remake a lot of these video's with a camera man and my new editing software. Better lights etc.
saneauto thanks again for the video. I’ve only made a few vids and it’s really hard to do. For me anyway. Don’t know what to say. Don’t like editing.
How much do these transmission tow ?
Ok I watched all the videos on the 4r70/75 transmissions and the only way they show how to tell the difference in them is tear them apart. Well what if you don’t want to tear them apart. Is there any other way to tell the difference?
Thank you for commenting. As I explained near the end Two frustrating things make external ID nearly Impossible. One 4R75W come with one or two-speed sensors. So most with 2 sensors might be a 4R75W but could be a late 4R70W. To make things worse There are also 4R75E's out there with 2-speed sensors and do not have the wide ratio planet set.
saneauto could you run the numbers on it to find out which one you have
Are all 4r75w the same trans I checked the door jam it had tr code u and the truck had the same need to swap transmission
Curios about converting a 2wd 4r70w to work with a transfer case for 4wd? Output shaft modification?
I had a early model 1997 f150 4.6l 4r70w 4x4 with a electric transfer case and the trans was bad and converted a 1998 E150 4.6l 2x4 4r70w to a 4x4 to fit my f150 and all I had to do is disassemble the two of them and swap the output shaft assuming you have a transfer case and the housing and in theory this works from 1997 to 2003 for the 4r70w I don't know about 5.4l as I have not tried it.
You may not need this information anymore since this question is 4 months old but just incase this was my experience.
Does the a470w have the year stamped on the casings like the old engines of yesteryear?
Hello, I have a 2001 Mustang V6 and I would like to know if I can put a 2007 or 2001 Mustang GT transmission in it.
Does the 4r70w and 4r75w have the same clutch packs and torque converter?
is a 4R75W compatible with a 2007 crown vic that originally had a 4R75E?
I know this is old, but it's really good information! One thing I'm trying to get good information on is whether or not the 4R75W/E geartrain can be transplanted into the older AOD housing. I have read that the guts from an AOD-E and a 4R70W/E will work, but I'm not sure how reliable the info is, because they never show pictures or explain how it's done or what you need to do the job. I have read that there is a difference in one of the drums that the tabs go 6 on the older one, and 18 on the later...?
Will a older AOD work on a 94 f150 5.0 that came with the
.4R70 ?
So we're is the input in a 4rw70 or vss ? because I got a vss code on my 1999 Lincoln Town car that has a 4rw70
how do you figure out which transmission is your crown vic i just got a 2006 crown vic lx and idk which transmission is in it and can’t find anything on it
Is a 4r70w from a 2003 crown vic interchangeable with a 4r75w from a 2002 f150? The truck is used for highway use only and doesn't haul heavy loads.
I have two questions I have a 1995 Lincoln Town car that makes the rumble strip vibration sound coming from the transmission I use that dr. Medic transmission thingit worked a little bit and then it stopped working do I have to rebuild the transmission? And the second question is I have a 1956 Ford Fairlane that my father owns
And he cannot push the clutch anymore what automatic transmission will bolt up to that y block
What does my 2010 ford f150 4.62v have ? Heard it was 4r75
I have a 2007 ford f150 with a 4R75E transmission in it that had 2 speed sensors.
I am having trouble finding the reverse drum
also the bolt patterns on the bell housing are different v6 are smaller but both have the 14 bolts on the pan
yes good tip.
I'm trying to replace a 4R70W, AODE-W.
What's the difference between the ID (F65P-CA) and the (F75P-KA)?
I wanted buy 4r75e trans but they tell me i have to wartch the ext housing
Size one has 10 or 11 inch ?
I have a 2004 f150 4x4 5.4 it was just rebiilt but the transmission goes neutral i guess when it builds pressure .but will not do it if i turn od off
Can you shed some info on tail housing lengths between this transmissions.
What was the difference between the 4x4 4r70w 1997 4.6l v8 i dont know why there are 2 different ones of the 4r70w 4x4 what is the difference between them
TKS FOR THE EXCELLENT VIDEO
HAVE A QUESTION I HOPE U CAN HELP ME.
Thanks
Seems like the E350 would have to be a big 4R100 series transmission not the 4R70-75W
looking for info on a 2007 crown vic transmission,4r75,what adapter and tcase would i need to convert to 4x4 for a ranger swap,im new to fords,im a jeep guy so any info would be great help
ACP2X7000-DA ? I have a photo of the tag that’s an x after the two
I've got a 1995 f150 with a 5.0lv8 and my truck transmission has a block where the drives shaft enters but I have a leak either above my pan or it's my pan and gasket after shop replacement so my question is which transmission do I have for sure and is there a gasket or seal in between the transmission and tail block
Yes and I just released a new video today about transmission leaks. ruclips.net/video/O1gNv4HcIp0/видео.html
Does the 4r70 and 75 w have the same case bolt pattern?
Yes
Will a transmission from a Ford mustang fit in a Ford f150
No. The tail-housing and output shaft are shorter on the mustang and longer on the F150, Lincoln, and SUV's
If my car has the 7000 ab trans can I use the 7000aa or any others as long as it's the same year?
Am trying to find out where in the world is the vent for the 4R70W. Thanks for the great video!
Top of the Case near the rear where the tail housing bolts on.
To see which one you have look for the big electrical plug AOD doesnt have one
saneauto roger that
Will a 2006 f150 4x4 5.4 4r70w fit Into a 2003 f150 5.4 4x4?
Im years late but please i need help
My trans in my 2007 grand marquis gs blowed it wasn't shifting into 2nd at all it would try too REV but it didn't move i have a 2002 MGM TRANS laying around i need too know how could i make it work in my 2007 MGM
my 2006 has an input speed sensor and it is an E-250.
Hey I see you are in the Atlanta area do you work on transmission for customers
What is the name of the manual you are working from ? Id like to purchase one if possible
This was mostly from memory of building these for over 25 years. When I first start on an unfamiliar unit I always buy an ATSG manual like this one amzn.to/2IXWPGE I scribble notes in them as I learn so if I forget something I can always go back and check the manual &/or my notes.
My question is 4.6 v8 an4 .o 6 are they usually interchangeable 2004 4.o an 2out 4.6 will it more likely change out
2005
Burned out looking for my tailstock part.
2005 f150 xl 5.4l. pan looks like a 4r70W. rectangled pan. Door tag says A. Can't find any build code A info..
Any ideas?
2wd or 4x4?
Unfortunatly you cannot use the 7.3 Diesel unit to replace the gasoline unit.
@@saneauto Thank you!
Can I use a 1999 crown Vic 4r70w in my 2003 Mustang GT with a 4r70w? Is the tail shaft any different or are they the same?
Your Mustang GT is probably a 4R75W and the Crown Vic could be any variation. The tail and output shaft are the same length though. The Lincoln and Ford trucks have the longer shaft and tail.
I have a ford f150 4.6 2005, it's says metric on the pan .what's the difference?
What do you do if you have a f150 with a door tag trans code of “A” which is the np435 which is a manual transmission and mine is automatic... for temp I was gonna go to junk yard but it seems Ford was really dumb on this one I don’t have the means to rip the trans apart before I get it so how do I know what trans I have and what trans I’m getting especially if I can’t rely on the door tag
What Year
I have the same problem transmission code A I couldn’t find any Id info on it anywhere. Mine is 2005 with the 4.2 V6 2wd
just a little info for you i have a 2005 2wd f150 with a 4.6 and a 5L3P-7000-BA (dealer said 4r70E) it has two sensors on the drivers side .
I would apreciate you'r help, since I'm stuck with that Dilema thank you
Only if they are both the same # of speed sensors.
@@saneauto no I already found out, the 4R70W has one speed sensor, the 4R75W has 2, Input speed sensor and out put speed sensor Thanks!
yes i was about to commeNT ON THAT it actualy change in 2003 from one to 2 exactly input and out put, as a matter of fact I sold the 4R70W and today the 28 of sep just got the original one and i think its the 4R75W it came from a Lincoln town car same year and everything, so thanks aniway ill install the transmission tomorrow lol

Thank you for watching my videos. The Cougar of those 2 years is the only one with the same linkage arm and same # of speed sensors
I have 2005 F150 Fx4 4x4 and I'm looking for compatibility information please
Thats likely a 4R100 or at least a 4R75W because its 4X4 and needs the higher torque capacity of the 4R100
Can I use a 4R70W 4x4 transmission from a 1997 f150 in my 1995 f150? Both are transmission code U .
It should have everything I mentioned here like if they both have the long tail output shaft the same number of speed sensors the same number bolt holes for the starter etc. Just check them both over really well
Okay, Will do. Had some places tell me no and some tell me yes.
No one could tell me why. Thanks for the good advice and keep
making videos. You’re the best !!
Well im a bit more confused now. I thought the differences with the extra speed sensor mea t it was a E version. I thought both 4r70w and 4r75w are the same except for the stronger material in the internals...
I have a F150 with the 4r70w with a bad transmission, can it be swapped with the 4r70e ?? Thanks in advance.
No the planet ratio is different. The computer will think its slipping in every gear multiple codes and limp mode.
Thanks a lot, I'd appreciate it.
this is a long shot but could you tell me if a 2003 crown vic lx transmission would fit in a 1995 crown victoria ... thanks man
Nope
saneauto thanks
mind if i inquire the diffrences? im trying to learn fords and the 4.6 is a picky little beast
I have a 2006 f150 with a 4.6 is the trans a 4r70w it is 4x4 stx edition jw reverse went out
no its 4R75W or E in 2003 they stoped using the 4R70w in the 4.6
What is the difference between a 4R70W and a e40d
Everything, and The E4OD is almost twice the size.
Thanks for replying its a 2001 mustang gt
I work at a junkyard pulling parts to send to a remanufaturer. How can I easily identify an 4r70w while it is still mounted on the vehicle. Is it just the one sensor and the cast W on the case? Any advice would be appreciated💪
I actually cover that in this video. The E and the W can both come with 1 or 2 sensors. However if your pulling it from the vehicle you have access to vehicle information VIN code and door sticker info. Most of us dont have any of that.

saneauto thank for the help, one more question though, the Lincoln mark 8 that have the DOHC 4.6L, do those Lincoln’s have a 4R70W in them too? I’m trying to do an engine swap in my car but don’t want to do a manual trans swap. I was going to take the PCM out of the Lincoln and use it in the mustang to mate the cobra 4.6 with an auto trans.
Sorry, RUclips never notified me of this comment. The Lincoln Tail housing and output shaft is a full inch longer than non-Lincoln so you would have to have the driveshaft shortened and balanced.
DOHC are mated to the 4R75W

Can a 5f replace a 4r transmission
Do you mean a 5R55W ?
Can a 2003 - 4r75w with one sensor be identical to a 1999 - 4r70w with one sensor?
70W and 75W are not identical. Because you seem to have the same # of sensors. Theres a good chance It may be similar enough to work. Even though its different years too. Unfortunately you dont know for sure till you have already installed it and try it out. 2 clues in your favor are 1) they are both wide ratio planet sets. 2) Same solenoids from 1999-2004 on both 75W and 70W
@@saneauto Thank you. I just finished sending a message to Ford Motor Co., in regards to my tranny questions. I know they are flooded with questions and don't expect a response soon.
@@saneauto thanks for the reply.
Will a 97 mountaineer all wheel drive equipped with a 5.0 engine have a 4r70w?
It could have because the 4R70W is rated at 700 nm torque capacity roughly over 500 ft lbs. A 1997 stock 5.0L does not produce near that much. However If the vehicle came with a tow package it may have been equipped with the much larger higher capacity E4OD.
Will a 91 f150 aod fit a 3.8 86 mustang
If it came with an AOD then yes. If it came with any other transmission then just about the only thing that will be the same is the bell-housing bolt pattern
Will a 2006 police interceptor trans fit in a 2009 lincoln town car?.
Nope for one lincoln uses a longer extension houseing and output shaft. I just released a video on this yesterday.
So i already bought the trans...can those parts you mention swap over from the town car trans?
Is THERE ANYWAY TO MAKE IT WORK or am i out of 350$
@@rashadramsey3011 Not without completely disassemble of both transmissions and you would need at least a reseal kit or Overhaul kit so you will have the new gaskets to put it all back together.
Not the Same. Lincoln and trucks have a longer output shaft and tail housing.
Is it possible 2 swap out these parts?
Yes but the whole transmission has to be disassembled to change the output shaft. Then you have to reassemble. So you would need at least an overhaul kit. It is almost as much work as an overhaul so you might as well rebuild it while your in there. That requires some more parts. Its gonna turn into a big expensive project. Yep Ive been there done that.
Well what the problem im having is i did a pull n my mustang gt from low 1 thru 2 it never made it to 3rd....i had a bad battery n the car shut off mid pull and the starter enguaged while moving( which i dont think hurt anything) but the trans made a loud grinding noise as if i put it in reverse until it shut off.....and now its locked solid...i cant get the car 2 start tried turning the crank but its jammed....i pulled the car home backwards n it rolled fine in reverse but with the car off i tried 2 push it in drive and theres resistance....i cant seem 2 free it up....and i dont even know where 2 begin...i was just gonna replace the trans but im having a hard time finding a gt trans for my price range n was tryin to make something else work
I think your right. At this point find another transmission. Go ahead and replace the flywheel and starter while your swapping the trans.
Noicee good info 👌
We're did you get the catalog?
That catalog isnt made any more its really old. Almost as old as me LOL. It came from one of my old parts suppliers. I might be able to get a newer version for around $100.
what is involved in swapping a 4r70w and a 4r75w? I have a 03 f150, blown tranny. I have a motor and trans out of a car casting # *RF-F3UP-7A040-AA* is it basically a direct bolt on?
Nope, You need a 4R70W or just build yours.
Why wouldnt it work though I have the same issue
BTW that casting #F3UP-7a040-aa is used on tail housings of some of the 4R70w & e and 4R75w & e It was used from 1993 to mid 200? There are 3 other tail housings used on these one is an inch longer for Lincolns and is on units with a longer output shaft. The other 2 have different size hole for the other size output shaft seal.
saneauto thanks for the info! Im gonna save myself the headache and locate a new trans (used) or buy a rebuild kit off ebay! THANKS FROM CANADA
Hi sr I have an F150 2003 and my transmisión doesn’t work I want to know if the transmission of mustang 2004 v6 is the same for my truck or not ? My truck is v6
Do they both have 2 speed sensors?
Yes sr
@@pakoobregon2880 Theyre most likely the same
I have a everything works except the starter one of the 2 bolt pattern 1 2 3 bolt pattern someone said you could cut something to block or the starter one I don't know does anybody know
hello, you made a great movie, I have a question - I have F150 94, the automatic transmission has been damaged. Tell me please, which other car should I use to get the automatic transmission to fit, I can't find any f150 94 - my transmission is propably 4r70w, many thanks for reply :)
Lincoln, The lincoln and F150s both have a longer output shaft and tail-housing than the cars
@@saneauto Many thanks for the reply. If we are talking about Lincol car, no matter which one it suits? Or only from specific models, engine capacity? And one more thing, e.g. if a mustang could fit - if I change the output shaft and tail-housing from the old automatic transmission from f150. Thank you very much for your help.
@@marcingtt3126 Has to be similar in year model and the same # of speed sensor with the same ratio planets Mustang transmission has the short shaft and short tail. The shaft comes out last during disassembly. If your going to swap shafts your better off rebuilding your truck transmission.
that transmission its compatible with the mustang, crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Lincoln town Car, F150, F250 and econoline vans , all with the 4.6 engine and from 98 to 2003 in 2004 thats when they change to 4R75W or E. but dont get the one from the F150 4.2 even do its the 4R70w the position for the starter changes its 1 1/2 inches lower so they look the same but wint fit, believe me a whent true all of them til today finaly got the one i nedd lol 4R75W lincoln town car 2005 4.6
@@fcoernestoberumen3530 and saneauto - many thanks - but
I'm a bit confused,
I checked the serial number of the automatic transmission and
it is as follows : F4TZ7000FRM
and according to the list comes out on the 4r70w automatic transmission, right? but, on the sticker on the car there is "E" in place of "TRANS", I am confused, I do not know what to look for, and the additional problem is that here where I live there is no part for my f150.
Whats the name of that book? I could use that.
This book? amzn.to/2SxG9eq
I have a automatic transmission but dont know which one I have.. I have a 1990 4.9l
A 1990 4.9L What? Crown Vic? Mustang? F150? Explorer? Boss Hoss 3 wheel motorcycle?
Can you swap a 4r75w into a 4r70w car?
Edit can you swap it fairly easily? Is there wiring and other garbage that needs to be messed with to do so?
Only if they both have the same # of speed sensors. Some have one sensor others have 2 sensors.
@@saneauto i have 5.0 explorer that i believe uses the 4r70w. Car has 215k miles and its thrown a few pending transmission codes. They were related to 2 isolated incidents but i think this trans is on the way out. Trying to figure out a gameplan before it blows
So how do I tell a aod aode 4r70 4r75?
4R70w has one speed sensor in the tail part of the tranny, the 4R75W has two one imput sensor and one output sensor, plus the 4R75W is longer by about 1 1/2 inches
I've got an 07 Crown Vic police interceptor and I believe it has a 4r75e but I can't tell for sure 😳
If its PI it should have come with the 4R75W from the factory but it could have been changed or Ford may have decided to equip it with the 75E
@@saneauto I've decided to just buy another Vic at auction and use it as a parts car, then rebuild the current dead trans when I have more time to learn to do it right. Thanks!
