And of course you can leave it in 4WD permanently with the centre diff unlocked (AWD mode). I agree that the engine and gearbox are really well matched. Thanks for the video!
Can I recommend that you fit a scan gauge and program it to show you the auto gearbox temp. The vehicle may feel that it is doing it well but the oil temp in your Auto could be way to high. The end result of constant high temps in your auto box is degradation of the oil which can lead to early tranny failure. Also driving it in manual mode helps to delay the temp increases. I fitted an auto tranny cooler. Made a “huge” difference to oil temps and was money well spent.
Don't worry this is only temporary situation, the tow car I want isn't available in Aus yet. But it's coming next year! So the little Pajero just needs to tow the boat to the ramp and back until then.
He is about 400kg under maximum capacity. Should do it no worries. Would be interesting to see how much weight is on the towball though being dual axle and a lot of weight at the back of the boat.
A great video. My experience with my Prado. The transmission oil was black at 110Km because servicing at Toyota they never bothered to check it. With your Pajero your torque convertor would be slipping up the hill and the oil would get very hot. Most servicing dealerships never check the transmission oil probably too messy. They would prefer to charge you $7K for a new transmission and blame the owner for towing or off- road driving etc. I guess we should all check the fine print in the handbook re extra servicing when towing. I agree a scan gauge to look at the Tx temp is the way to go.
@@BaitBallin I think depending on the auto tx software the torque convertor will not lock up until the auto tx's oil is at its set minimum temperature. With a transmission cooler if running in a cool climate it may not reach temperature and slip more to get the oil and tx hot. This could be a negative. Ideally you want to get the torque convertor to lock up.. There are torque convertor lock up kits around. I am no expert but worth investigating. With a scan gauge you can back off climbing the hill if the autoTx temperature rises to maybe 115 degrees or higher.
I have bought a few new cars over the years and have found the service is a joke they change the engine oil and thats about it the rest they charge for is bullcrap i have got under and checked it all out just lies never trust or go back to them.
Does that come with Tow Hitch package available from Mitsubishi? Here in the Philippines its not sadly. and I'm not even sure if a Tow Hitch can be applied in our local version (called Montero Sport)
@@Ryza1988au spot on. Im pretty confident he is compliant but it is always best to know. A tow ball scale would also be interesting as its dual axle trailer and the boat keeps a lot of weight at the rear. Weight distribution hitch might be handy.
The santa fe can only handle 100kg on the tow hitch. Which really means it can only tow 1000kg with 10% being on the nose. Otherwise you would get too much weight on back of santa fe and puts evertything under pressure.
I have a problem with overheating when towing my 2.5t caravan with my Pajero Sport 2020 GLS up a similar hill to you. Did you see your temp gauge raising at all?
Bottom line is they aren't a good tow car and they really can't cope with 2.5t. I have only towed longer distances with mine a few times and it's best avoided. They are a piece of junk and Il be selling mine soon tbh.
No issues. They just drive and handle like a bucket of crap. I didn't drive it enough before purchasing. It's just absolute bottom of the line and a huge disappointment compared to the other 4wda I have owned. I won't be keeping for long.
@@BaitBallin I'm kind of confused, you just said in the video it was stable and underrated and praised it? Are you now saying all that was wrong? Cheers
@@BaitBallin I am looking at get one to tow my boat which weighs around 2t(BMT). Most of time I will be towing 40km each way. After watching your video towing that beast up hill I should be fine. Thanks mate!
I am sure it will do it fine. However wether it is legally compliant is a different story. Would be good to see it on a weight bridge and a ball scale. Thanks for the video. Pajero is 3000kg braked I think(only 750kg? Unbaked?) So with a towball of 300kg you could have a total weight of 3300kg . Its probably under that with empty water tank and empty fuel. (You say it is 2800kg so take away the 280 at the towball and you are super compliant). (I do my 8.5m twin ob 7mm aluminium pilot house with half fuel in my Triton easy, I do use a weight distribution hitch though just keeps it more balanced and handles way better on the front). Mitsubishi are underrated tow vehicles. Consider weighing your towball. You are giving me courage to tow my boat further afield than the local boat ramp. Thanks!
Wow, don’t take that advice. Ball weight and tow weight are measured separately, but does not get removed from your total towing capacity. Just because your tow ball weight is 300kg, does not mean you can remove that weight and tow 3300kg. It’s still a total of 3000. Some jokers just shouldn’t be giving advice.
Hi mate , does your Pajero Sport have rust proofing done under the car? I have inspected 6-7 Pajero Sport for purchase and they are like a 1-3 years old. They all have some rust especially around and above the front tow points.
I have just had an add up of what you are towing and what you are towing it with and I have come up with is that the fishing gear, your mates and lunch has to travel in another car. So be careful not to get count
Trailer brakes worked well so did the engine braking using the gearbox. But it's certainly not something I will put this car through regularly anyway .... A few times only
It actually is very cheap compared to anything good..... Decent 4wds are bloody expensive these days. These are bottom of the line but still better than some shit out there
And of course you can leave it in 4WD permanently with the centre diff unlocked (AWD mode). I agree that the engine and gearbox are really well matched. Thanks for the video!
Use the Paddles to drop gears.
Thanks excellent demo
i got my mrs a pajero sport and reckon it tows great, towed a 2t van sound south west WA and no what you mean by the gearbox.

Yes that's an excellent idea!
I believe the Pajero Sport has a tranny cooler.
Wont be an issue, Pajero has transmission cooler which even many proper 4x4s don't have as standard.
Funny you say about Santa Fe I just broke a gearbox in one towing a 5m plate boat. But I did rate the towing before hand.
Huge difference between the two! How ever Santa Fe was a much better day to day car for sure

whats the next tow car ?
likely a new Ford Everest or maybe an F150. This car was fine for the tinnie, but that's it.
That's fine and dandy goin up... how's it gonna handle 3500 kg (boat and vehicle) comin back down the hill. ??
Yeah been down no worries. Actually very good indeed. Impressive for such a low end cheap 4wd
If the electric over hydraulic brakes are working.... fine

Yes it's a factory item, I will just be changing the actual tongue for a version which can be flipped to add more height
Thanks! I will check with any 3rd party installer here.. 👍👍
Did u end up getting ur new tow vehicle? I'd recommend a touareg for the ultimate towing machine
Haven't yet but definitely will check them out
details?: is the pajero 3.2 (diesel) or gas? whats up exactly
Diesel 2.4
Does the pajero sport have enough towing capacity for the weight of the boat, trailer, full of fuel water ect.
Will have to tow everything basically empty and minimal people in the car. So reality is, it's right on the limit.
Might want to get it on a weigh bridge mate... last thing you want is getting in to a prang and being up for the outcome 😬... knock on wood
