Totally agree. I actually just leave my Triton in 4H permanently, such a good feature with a ute, especially unladen when you suddenly have to put your foot down in traffic.
Spot on! ...just lift foot of excelerator when changing from 2H to 4H and back to 2H. From experience on the dunes...always switch off the ASC and for the automatics to rather use the tiptronic function than auto mode. Happy driving!!😁
We have the Pajero Sport on 4h continuously. We used 2wd mode initially in the city and on highway but found the car feeling slightly skittish. Especially in the wet. So much so, I lost confidence in 2wd. The car is just too heavy and high, and hardly any difference in fuel consumption. Anyway 4h is nothing more then say Subaru's AWD.
In 4H the car works like a AWD car. All the tyres have different torque depending on wich tyre has less grip. But the 4Hlc it's different. The 4Hlc works like a 4X4 who doesn't have the superselect like the old Mitsubishi. Like the old Mitsubishi, the 4Hlc will put 60% traction on the rear tyres and 40% in the front tyres. And always remember. You can use the 4hlc and 4llc ONLY IN OFF-ROAD. Or you'll break your car.
Great video! Quick question I have a 2018 Pajero NX & only just realised reading card under visor & watching videos that switching from 4HLc to 4LLc & back should be done in N. Haven't done much 4WD - but may have done that a couple of times in either D or P with the car stopped - could that have caused some damage? Doing some experimenting now you can actually clearly hear it lock in & out of 4LLc & the 4L light comes on in the dish - that's normal right - you should be able to hear it? All seems to be working well but just thought I would ask. Thanks. Laurence 😃
Hi, just purchased and have started to watch your back catalogue. I’m in the UK and the car is sold as a Shogun Sport. I’ve noticed the online and paper manual is incorrect regarding the cabin fuse position. I’ve had this confirmed by my local dealer, who was unaware of the issue. Is the manual correct in Oz? For example fuse 6 actually for the cigarette lighter and both accessory sockets. While the manual states fuse 2. Loving your content great for owners.
Mate. Great vid.. ive been cycling mine in the mr gls triton just to keep the actuators doing there thing. Took me a while to get the rear diff lock to engage and longer to disengage (which if ur bogged and in strife already isnt the best) but yep going off the manuals instructions were vague at best. But again great video 👌👌
you made confusing subject easy to understand. Thank you.. that was a good info and now I know what these mystery letters are all about and their uses....:) Once again thank you bro..
I have a MQ 2017 Triton, it has the same selector dial, but I only have 2H, 4H and 4L, would I be able to use 4H on wet roads, because the wheels tend to skid quite a bit when driving on flat roads or up a incline , even when in 4th at around low speeds to medium speeds like 30-50kmh. Loved the video mate!
Thanks for that, I'm about to buy a 2022 Triton Ute to tow up tp 2 tonne Caravan. Mostly will be sealed roads, park on grassy camp sites maybe the odd metal road or wet hilly sealed roads. Trying to decide if I should spend another 7 grand on the GLXR 4WD with Super select 2. Appreciate your thoughtd either way cheers man
I used hill descent on a 2km long down hill rutted and rocky descent. Was great. I was actually pleased to find out the car shows a brake temp warning eventually so shifted to low range and crawled to allow for cooling and no brake.
Nice video 👍🏿👌🏿 Over here, it's very wise to drive in 4H coz the roads, even the tarmac ones, have lots of dust in places. In 2H, my 2006 Mitsubishi Pajero v73w 3.0 V6 24V Petrol does feel "skittish". What's the highest speed permissible to drive while 4H? Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
Thanks mate, very helpful. Reading the manual is bloody painful. Constant warnings. Maybe they could just go through the explanation and then refer the reader to the ‘warning page’ instead of confusing old buggers such as myself.
@T.A.G why do you say mate matey? I have never noticed bind with full lock turns on the bitumen without centre diff locked. You have full differential action. In say most Land Rover Defenders and Discos you have no choice (a good thing) as it's AWD all the time before locking the centre off road. Good video. Dead right about low range on soft sand. Cheers
You still have full differential action but they still bind ever so slightly. Not enough to cause harm but enough to notice, I used to use 2h coming into carparks for this reason, Subaru's do the same thing, they don't like full lock u turns
@T.A.G interesting. I have always used 4H. Sometimes the dealer selects 2h and I notice the handling even in the dry before I see what they have done...straight back to 4H. I am used to AWD from previous vehicles so never noticed the difference in full lock. Cheers
@landrover1155 it's just one of those things really. Can leave it in 4h and you'll likely never have a drama. But it felt better for me to use 2h when turning tight lol
If you were buying a Shogun (Pajero) Sport second hand, any way to tell if previous owners may have not been so careful with selecting the correct modes etc and that they've not caused any damage? I guess no way to test properly if a test drive area near the dealer has no "loose stuff" to test the 4HLc/4LLc? Great video explanation, thank you 👍🏻
Yes, identical setup and behaviour. I dont know about the Paj Sport, but when in 4H, the gen 4 Paj has a viscous LSD coupling on the centre diff, so its not a completely open centre diff in that mode.
Love the SS in my Pajero. I have to put it in 4H for hill-starts when it's raining, otherwise it skids and traction control stops me going anywhere. PITA
Brilliant video. I wish you show virtually the buttons ad stuff of rear and central diff locks than just talking about it. Also go through painstaking short description of what rear and central lock. I sent my young brother and he sort off got lost with those words. Otherwise I ilke your channel, good work and simple enough to follow. 👍🏽👌🏽👌🏽.
Another quality video! Would you not think that going up sandy inclines it's best to use high to get up speed and momentum? Or do you still prefer low?
Great video mate, from what I under stand you can’t engage from 2wd to 4wd while stopped can you ? I’m heading to Moreton on wed and just want to make sure I’m in 4wd before I exit the boat haha
Great vid. Any chance of doing a vid undertaking the same terrain obstacles using superselect 4LLC modes and then with rear diff lock? I sometimes find myself unsure where and when is best to use the diff locker rather than the terrain modes. eg. Drive a hill climb in superselect. Then drive the same hill with diff locker. Which is better?
This is a fluid question. It changes in every scenario. A locker comes into play the most when lifting wheels or if you find the car losing traction on shaly ground on one side etc
So, if i have a Mitsubishi with Super Select, and let's say, in a city, where we all know that are asphalt streets, and someone come to me and say " hey, my bus just broke down, can you help me to get it out off the road ?", and to pull 40t, you need a lot of torque, so you need 4Llc gear, you can do it? Or you can break the transfer box? Supe Select is that sensible? Other cars without centre diff lock system can go 4L any time on any suface without any damage to the car. Is something that i don't understand about Super Select?
Look. You could use 4l as long as your stay dead straight and don't turn. However you could still damage the driveline. If it came to a larger vehicle I'd suggest calling a proper recovery vehicle or tow truck to assist. That being said if you pulled with 4l on tarmac you could bind the transmission up with wheel slip. And become bound to the point you'd need to jack the vehicle up to avoid more damage etc In short. Yes but I would advise against it.
Hi mate question, if you drive in the sand ( beach ) did you need to take some air into your tyre. Or it is ok without taking out some air, just shift to 4Hlc?
100% take air out of your tyres. That is the biggest factor for sand driving, start at 15psi and drop if needed. Not only does it reduce stress on your vehicle but saves the tracks for others
