4WDers are a bit spoiled for choice these days. Along with traditional big 4WD wagons and huge array of 4WD utes available, buyers can also look at a segment in between: 4WD wagons, based on the utes.
We’ve got two of the freshest updates here: The 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (which is facelifted for 2020), and the 2020 Toyota Fortuner (which got refreshed in late 2019).

I had full choice between the Pajero Sport, Fortuna and also MUX (couldn't afford fully speced Prado so didn't look). Settled on the Pajero Sport exceed version and love it.
Good to hear mate! It's my dream car, hoping to get it some day when I'm older lol
Same
New MUX is fab.
@@aidengillzy The new MUX seems like a big step forward.
I own a Montero/Pajero Sport! Love from Philippines
How much it costs in your country??
Pajero sport is the best-selling car in its class in Indonesia
Really ? How come I see more Fortuners on the road than Pajero ?
I do like Pajero and has been using it now. About to buy a 4x4 next, but moneywise it's more expensive than Fortuner and Terra
Same with Philippines before.....
@@jayginting it’s cheaper

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 👍👌💪💚
Best choice bro

"decent ground clearance" - doesnt state ground clearance. Like, i know journalism is dead n all, but yall review cars, can u not even do that?!
Head over to the website, we go through all the numbers there www.caradvice.com.au/830466/2020-mitsubishi-pajero-sport-v-toyota-fortuner-comparison-off-road/
@@Drivecomau Yes i understand you would like clicks to get ur ad money from the 100s youve got on your site ON TOP OF the ones in this video. Double up on monetisation for the exact same product. But surely you understand that making people jump through hoops for basic information about a car in something you call a "car review" is going to have the opposite affect? You don't provide a service which is in high demand, theres hundreds doing what youre doing. Most are doing it better and not forcing people to go to multiple website to get the full picture. All this tells me is you think your viewerbase is so dumb that they will put up, and fall for anything.
@@yehnah5891 Damn, nicely done.
@@yehnah5891 bravo
@@Drivecomau the people have spoken
2015 Fortuner GX Manual - its been around a little - Simpson Desert / Victorian High Country / NSW Barrington Tops and mud in the heavy floods last year… no alternator issues and no dpf issue with a letter from Toyota that dpf is covered for life of vehicle. Its got a 2inch lift and 32” mudterrain tyres…. I never use the rear locker because you lose front traction control and it likes to lift front wheels a lot. Technical stuff / hard tracks and the Fortuner just keeps amazing me…
i have the 3.8 v6 pajero and that super select system is a gem to have in a suv
Since when is the fortuner comfortable?
They never do
Rory Francis It’s kinda comfortable !
never
Comfortable compared to the Hilux
Nah in my experience its not comfortable compared to Pajero Sport.
For all features, Pajero is the best beast off road and without that ugly bumper is the most elegant in the city.
Drove both but the Toyota is better proper off-road. Looks each to their own but for me both ugly but the bishi is too spaceship uglier for me. That rear is awful
@@TecioNogueira ur opinion bro...many ppl like the rear
Pajero the best😍😍
Nooo 2017 vs 2020 not adil
Agree
Good review done
From the beginning of the on road video I knew the Fortuner was gonna get some high praises because of how you were talking. You really tried to talk up the Fortuner and without a doubt it is a good vehicle but it's totally outclassed by the pajero sport period. No competition between them and they aren't as close to each other as you make it out to be. The Pajero is more practical with it's interior setup and has managed space better. Off road, both are good but the pajero and it's traction control modes give it the victory. Plus the Pajero is much cheaper and reliable than the Fortuner. Toyota has yet to show it's reliability since the release of the 2.8 l with the whole dpf fiasco and air intake problems I've heard about.
1. RRP Pricing was basically the same.
2. Toyota's traction control is actually very good.
3. Much more reliable? Maybe, Maybe not, Toyota have had issues with the DPF no doubt. But these issues are being resolved.
4. To say there is no competition is stupid.
5. resale on the Pajero Sport is significantly worse.
Pajero sport is much better value for money, in the tech and comfort department I would never buy a Toyota just too far behind the ball to other manufacturers.
@@b3nz0r12 It's traction control is very good but not as effective as the ps, Hilux and Prado. It's kinda weird since it's based off of the Hilux. Cost wise, it's probably gonna increase because of the new updates and Toyota is way too overpriced anyway just because of its name.
@@b3nz0r12 yeah goodluck with that after market sale coz you'd be needing it when you sell that toyota 2.8 lemon
@@b3nz0r12 and in the mitsu I wouldn't be even thinking of selling it again I would use that 4H on-road for all the vehicles life, can a outdated toyota 4wd say that? Oh yeah right, you sold it again coz its useless
Where is that track that you guys went to on this video? From the looks of things, it looks like it's within close proximity from Penrith in NSW. And it looks like a nice track to test my Pajero Sport.
Looks like Faulconbridge
odd question because I can't find an answer anywhere - can anyone comment on the stereo/sound quality? Fortuner 'boasting' a JBL system, Pajero Sport Exceed only claiming premium 8 speaker stereo, neither of which say much. For context, my current car has a Burmester sound system (yes I'm a sound snob - downside of car stereo comps in the 90s - set a standard).
Like the look of the Fortuner for some reason not available in the Uk
Guinness book of world records off-road rally racing champions Mitsubishi pajero
I like the both cars.
The pajero seems much worth buying..
Watching him stand beside the car make it look like these are small SUVs 😅
But they are small SUVs, compared to a Prado or Pajero
Do these cars come in 2wd (seeing that they are only part time 4WD anyway) for the majority of people that will never take them off road? Which would save money and weight meaning better handling and economy?
Yes. In the Philippines, we have 4x2 models as well for both the Fortuner and Pajerosport.
I love them both - Wow -
Thank you, good review . I am a Toyota Person too but am leaning towards the Mitsu as well . I am looking for a family / work/ camping vehicle with some comfort.May I ask , are they suitable for towing a light weight camper trailer? :)
It's pretty good at towing from what I've heard. Definitely a much better vehicle overall than the Fortuner.
Yeah the Pajero sport would easily tow 2.5 tonne but probably would not tow any more without a tune or something to get a little bit more grunt
Currently towing a 17 foot pop top Jayco expanda and it does it with no problem you'll be fine doing that.
Would like to have seen how cars preform on a Sandy beach -
Why in Asia ( Vietnam) Fortuner are always roll over on their roof easily? they take something off to make it cheaper? Pls explain
They come with different specs. The engine is different. Asean market gets 2.5 VNT Turbo while Australian 2.8. CMIIW.
Toyota's stability control in the Hilux is garbage. This is based on the Hilux so it transfers over.
Own a 2011 Kluger with 220,000kls, done some hard yards, around Aus 3x, plus many interstate travels without a fault. Also have a 2018 Hilux 2x4 and Corolla for wife and i as daily drivers. About to get a 2024 Pajero Sport over the Fortuner for something different to replace the Kluger. My only gripe is the 2nd row tumble seats in ALL of these vehicles i've looked at have. NO FLAT FLOOR ! Super Select won me over.
i love the pajero. the best one yet
I would buy Pajero sport
The Pajero Sport has better drivability than the Triton double cab, mostly due to the 8 speed auto box, but the car could do with more power and its lagging behind the competition. The suspension is also to soft and the off road 4x4 system could do with an upgrade where the traction control stays on for the front wheels when the diff lock is engaged. The position of the electric window buttons is also hampered by the door handel. Ground clearance is also lagging behind the competition at only 218mm. The sidesteps hampers its off road ability and it makes marks on your pants when you get out of the vehicle. The 10 000km service intervals are also lagging behind the 15 000 km intervals of the competition If they can fix these things, the Pajero Sport would have a much bigger market share
If you drive offroad, or in the city, better change engine oil every 5000km (250 motor-hours), and don't be fooled by vast service intervals - they are intended for attractive TCO, not longevity of vehicle.
I have driven both pajero feels more like a car then a 4 wheel drive, i guess if you want a car that can off road as well it would be pajero
Whats the bull bar for?
Kangaroos
Thank you.
Looked at both, end up buying the Fortuner, due to reliability. Both are lovely vehicles, I also prefer the more rugged look and feel of the Fortuner, and the larger boot space when taking out the 3rd row seats...for camping. Greetings from South Africa.
Thanks for sharing, hope the Fortuner goes well for you!
In Australia fortuner comes with 6MT ?
Yes
You mean 6 spd manual transmission?
can the fortuner drive in 4x4 mode all the time like the PS?
no
@@radissimo1What?
No 4X4 when it's raining choice Pajero!❤
Love my fortuner crusade i bought in 2018 now getting more popular with advance feautres
Ah yes the ol faulco track
Actually you want eco mode for sand...
Mitsubishi much better car in every aspect on road urban and offroad
I have a ns pajero and new paj sport. The ps feels more refined and drives like a sedan. The ns is more truck like. The ns is wider internally is more the weekend carry stuff in the back car and camping. The ps I will use for long holidays with the wife, where if you want go somewhere off road, no problem. The service department loves the ns, simply because it's proven drive train is bulletproof.
MITSUBISHI💯💪
Power output if compared cx9 is 30kw less
Is not the Everest in the same group..???
In india, it is.
No Australia got more toyota models now
Mitsubishi best pajero
Pajero sport 😍🔥
It's called the Shogun sport in the UK, we dont get the Fortuna in the UK only the Landcruiser, so i guess the Mitsubishi is the winner in the UK as it's cheaper than the 4 door Landcruiser.
Landcruiser here is about $120k aud but can’t compare both cars. V8 vs 4 cylinder is not fair comparison
@@TecioNogueira there LandCruiser is actually a Prado it's a little weird how the whole thing works
They got only prado which they call land cruiser. In Australia we got 3 to 4 different segments of toyota like Kluger, Frortuner, prado and landcruiser
Fortunerlove
and mitsubishi love
Sorry blokes, you've lost the plot. Your older wider review had the PS cream the Toyota including road manners. What's with the change? Only area Toyota wins is on resale. And the addition of the fuse block.
Whoever pays more for advertising that month wins.
The PS is very narrow in the cabin and the huge console makes it both feel and look cramped. Big negative IMHO
@@davgpol I dunno, mate. I tested both Fortuner and Pajero Sport for loading capacity and layout before pulling the trigger on either and I noted the Pajero Sport manages its smidge smaller interior and exterior better than the Toyota. I went and bought the Pajero Sport, load it daily with boxes on boxes of merchandise, ride through deeply rutted farm roads on the weekends and have never looked back since. Comfier inside too.
You cannot test and 4x4 with those tyres
Fortuna has advantage off road yet the first test seemed to take ages, the Pajero went down in half the time. Fortuna engine bay has space for more stuff??? really? WTF do Australian's get up to?
Hilux based Fortuner should be stated as well
As is Pajero a Triton platform based 4wd
I bought the Fortuner.
Smashed my Pajero sport bash plate today. Needs upgrading if getting gnarlly.
Factory bash plates on most 4x4s are really thin and weak. Definitely need to update all underbody protection if your thinking of doing serious off roading.
where is off road ?
just off the road 👍
The interior on the Toyota looks very cheap and the ride is pretty poor on road very harsh and isn't it more expensive
Next PAJERO with LAND CRUISER ...PLEASE🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
Pajero has proven it in Dakar Rally. Land Cruiser has never won and its 2020🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@jackman2865 land cruiser is not a rally car. It’s a hardcore 4x4, family and towing vehicle.
Don't bother with DHD mode..
Go 1st gear 4low for slow crawl
2 gear is better for offroad
@@Majhail_yt302 im talking sliding down steep haha
Inda u boto sanga aha na dipardokkoni ni hamu i.
When theres a toyota video up there would be comments of fanboys saying "aFtEr MaRkEt SaLeS" well congrats on that, you'd be needing it soon when that lemon of an engine rips you a new one just to fix
That bullbar is not good looking at all!!!!
Mitsubishi. Cars for people who really wanted a Toyota.
I think the review was pretty well balanced. I have a 2016 Crusade set up for towing and touring with a 2 inch lift and A/T tyres, and completely confirm your opinions about its capability. After getting rid of a lemon-flavoured Everest for the Fortuner, I think the technology bling in the Pajero is risky. There is something reassuring about the over-engineered simplicity of the Toyota driveline. I sort of think by all of the comments by upset Pajero fans that they are feeling a tad insecure with the results (thou dost protest too much...)
In the end, I get it that you gave a split decision. Everybody gets something to feel good about and both cars have lots to praise for the segment they represent. Good job, Car Advice!
These reviewers talk about stuff most drivers don’t notice or care about. Either option is good and I’ve owned both. I currently own a fortuner but actually miss the P sport. There was just something about the way the P sport drove. Still love me fortuner.
Why are these 2 guys so boring to listen to
Mitsubishi has a better 4wd system you can even switch it to Awd. But fortuner i think is alot more rugged and reliable offroad.
Pajero sport 🇮🇩💪
Yes,i love toyota😍😍😍
Pajero is the best 👍
Not available in Canada because there is no wilderness over here, or dirt roads, or slopes, or wide open fields, or long distances, or streams, ... Mitsubishi decided to give the whole market segment to Jeep on a golden platter. sigh.
Lhd is gey
Sam mumbling isn't a wise choice when presenting on camera. Oh and welcome to the RUclips comments section. It's brutal down here. ;)
Your review is pile of biased chat chat chat. No review here. Have a look overseas reviews you learn a lot.
I will go for the Toyota Fortuner
You get pay to choose the Toyota🤣😂🤔🤣😂👌🏿
It was to short video...
Caradvice has gone down the drain
Why are you saying that? I enjoyed the video and found it quite interesting.
Tristan Nicolas go on the CA website, its one big advertisement after THE 9 takeover, all of the decent journos have left. What is left are clueless journos, i read an article last week that said car X doesnt make full power until 6000rpm. Is that a point worth making?
and an opinion piece this week saying the backlash against public transport due to COVID is a godsend for aussie motorists and manufacturers. What the actual hell??
@@TristanNicolas LOL. is this satire?
Try the Nissan Terra....
Jed Voltaire Sincero that isn’t even sold in most of the world.
Pajero sport is better
Why it is better ?
gutadin5 better comfort, technology, 4x4 system, transmission and cheaper as well. Plus Mitsubishi are more reliable than Toyota now as well.
三菱(Mitsubishi)!
Wrong fact stated. When the locker is engaged on the PS traction control remains on for the front end.
FORTUNER ALLTHE WAY. IT EVEN HAS A SLIGHT ADVANTAGE in OFF ROAD THAN ITS COMPETITOR. 👍👍👏👏👏 AS EXPECTED. I GOT MY 4X4 (2.8) AND I LOVE IT!
now that second Guy you are very right and not bias for what you see the Toyota doing I prefer purchase the Mitsubishi if the Mitsubishi wasn't doing well I would be forever by the Toyota simple first opinion you didn't have to pick up for Toyota the company still not going to give you fuckall😂🤣🤔😆🤣😂
the fortuner has better traction control than the Pajero lol what a joke
It’s true bro.
For 4x4 it is better. But the paj S/select is good for driving safer on unsealed roads
Fk toyota overprice rather pay for pajero sports less cheaper does the same job
Pajero love you
Mitsubishi just has the edge.
I’ll Buy the PAJERO SPORT ... Fortuner has Ugly comfort...

Fortuner is favourite 😍😍💪
Fortuner though and through , nothing is better than a Toyota
Thumps up for fortuner
Fortuner anyday
Fortuner for me for sure 🤗
Can’t compare a Mitsubishi to a Toyota, Toyota’s are king. Can’t even imagine the resale of the Mitsi, not to mention needs an alternator soon since it’s so low down in the engine bay. Anyone remember the old Mitsubishi Pajero and the smoke they blow
Lol Yeh don’t know where you have been but it is Toyota that blow smoke now. Follow any Hilux, Fortuner or Prado on the road and see the clouds of blue smoke from the defective DPF system Toyota have on the 2.8L engine.
Lol yeh that was the old pajero, its 2020 and Toyota still blowing smoke 😂
@@gavinwolfe3238 is the pajero sport the better car to buy in your opinion. I want to add a second battery aswell for camping.
