that horde base is really impressive and creative! ive always liked to make buildings as high as the game will let and test out all the physics and etc
I like to play with the wild West mod, and it is a little more difficult to build a horde base because of the time period it is set in. a lot of those base defenses are not available. This type of hoard base would work perfectly in that mod. I've been trying to figure out for the longest time what I could do about that, and now I have to thank you for potentially ending my search!
I like the hangar style of this base and the wide fighting position while keeping the horde in a single line. A weakness of your setup with the electric door is if that switch gets destroyed, (at that position vomits can hit it through that plate) that door goes in closed mode and you lose the dropper. Normally I do a combination of both electric posts and a dropper in my horde bases. I put the electric posts before the dropper to slow them down and let me shoot at them before they drop back to the ground. But I lose the ability to melee them
Yes good pickup on the door position and switch, the switch, like the electric fences was more a demonstration of options and not how I'd build if designed from the ground up, but the door rotation is good, another way to plan for it to be either afk or combat should the power get interrupted.
Sounds pretty laborious but damn it look so amazing, im more of a compact bases with tons of utility but this one made me want for a flying castle or one of those flying ships from final fantasy
I really love this base build! I've been wanting to build a "Jetson's" type house like this and was wondering how to deal with the stability stuff and now that I learned about the invisible blocks stuff, I can make it happen.
I loved the look of this base CPC. Maybe the base would have needed less support by being multi story rather than on a large platform? It would also have stopped the bullet damage to the building down your firing range. That said, loved the look of it and this is what 7DTD is all about: making dream bases. Loved too the winding stairs and bugger the zombies! Great work as usual.
Thanks Monte Carlo! Not sure it would have needed less support, but having the horde base section two story and stray bullets going over the hanger would be good for sure! Thanks for the input and the support!
Nice! I think this setup would do even on ground level. Or at least lower to the ground. Probably just make that bottleneck with a vault entrance at the top and nerd pole up to get into the cage. I like this setup! Nice!
@@CautiousPancake I'd be worried about the stairs up being also the base support too... But I get that it's not a practical base, just a fun idea :) And it is!

Nice, I do love these sky bases. I think I tried to build one back in A19, but like you mentioned with the additional supports it just looks ugly. Might give this idea a try in my world. Thanks, mate!
Add elec fence to drop base to hang them at the hanger door to get some kills and cause some damage. Then the ones that get through can drop to a pit that has dart traps and fences and all sorts of bad things to kill them. Fun fun.
LOL at 9:32, them just dropping is hilarious. Question tho, don't they enter rage mode after taking fall damage, where they'll just start beating on your support blocks at the bottom?
Good question - and no they don't :) One thing I worked out back in A20 is that if you are more than 11 blocks away from the zombies, they don't go into rage mode. So the whole way up that central pillar they don't attack anything, and even when they get to the top. Only once they are at the start of the hangar will they go into rage mode, and at that point you can shoot them to interrupt it (or put some other traps there - any damage will stop it).
@@donnakennedy430 awesome! main concern I had with this base is if you use the dropper, cops that fall may drop below 33% from repeat fall damage, and trigger their self-detonation. Which could explode near or at the entrance, which would be bad :) So if you're using the dropper, I'd add additional invisible supports, or other mitigations for that scenario.
I thought zombies went into destroy mode when they were a certain distance from you? how are they all going up the center without just wrecking everything?
The do, but only from 11 blocks of fewer distance away from you (or another player). So for the whole stairway, they are too far away and won't rage mode, and once they come out the top, they only will start to rage once they hit the hangar door, at which point you can just shoot them to interrupt it. I have a video back from alpha 20 where I originally worked out the "11-block rule" if you're interested :)
Love the aesthetics, but I'm confused why the dropped buggers don't go into digging mode - did this behavior change since 12 months ago or did I fundamentally misunderstand it in the first place?
When you say digging mode, do you mean rage mode/destroy area? If so, then they don't do this because I'm outside the rage mode limit. Back in A20 I worked out that if you stand in your base more than 11 blocks away from zombies they don't go into rage mode at all (until they get to 11 blocks away or less). So they could potentially rage once they get close within the combat area, but they won't rage on the rest of the stairway. Where they were attacking at the entrance was due to getting "stuck" on a block where the pathing isn't as smooth. Hope this makes sense! Oh and if you're after the original video on this, it's here: ruclips.net/video/EE8Tt2c8Ogo/видео.html
That looks pretty cool. Would use something like a powered door as a step so I could control the zombies' ability to come up. Would make the staircase wider as well, since zombies have a tendency to get stuck in narrow places and beat on things. That would make this pretty good to combat the insane screamer changes. I have to wonder how many blocks you end up losing up top when a block below gets taken out with the weird way this game handles structural integrity. I've experienced losing a few blocks up top when building high when a block below gets knocked out. Not sure how practical that is for a horde. I'd probably opt to just do horde elsewhere. Or just simply put ladders up the column with a diagonal railing at their top (facing outward) would make the zombies go on a continual loop while you shot downward. Less chance for zombies to get stuck. Animals would likely get bugged and just stand at the bottom.
Too high up for a nice consistent horde and a lot of room for error when zombies start attacking pillars at ground level and stairs on the way up. But it looks pretty cool.
Yeah, this one's more for show for sure :D It actually wasn't as bad as you might expect - once the zombies started coming they were pretty constant, and because everything was > 11 blocks away there's no rage, so they don't stop on the stairs much - just a little at the front door due to how they path. But it'll never beat a combat designed base :)
Thanks! It will be interesting with the push for 1.0 release and beyond if they ever bother with changing pathing anymore for forcefield blocks or drop blocks. I suspect they wont as the focus on achieving the release goals now.
That's a good idea - the only trick with it is that if the zombies are running and just fall straight down they don't (or didn't last time I tested it) get hit by blade traps. You have to make them ragdoll first, then when they fall through the traps they will get hit. A bit silly I know but that's how it works.
On your zombie drop you could have at the bottom a raised platform say 20ft above where the zombies come in and on top of the platform have Spike blocks so they kill themselves when they fall from above down on to the Spikes below.
That would be awesome, but unfortunately spikes don't do any extra damage when zombies fall on them - just normal amounts - it's not added to the fall damage for some bizarre reason!

Just how much concrete mix/steel would it take to make this bad boy? I mean it looks like the block count is in the thousands range at a glance, but a bit hard to gauge without a block height count.
I plead the 5th... looks like about 43 per level of the tower stair, and 70 levels high, so 3000 odd blocks there :) The circle base on top is 18x17 at the center, so about a thousand there I think, 300 or so for the hangar, probably 200-300 for the combat shed, and some misc for the paint lines garden and hanging catwalk. Round it off to about 5000 I'd say!
No need - I just like it for videos sometimes to bring the noise down. With the urban combat book series complete there's no damage penalty, so you can use it then.
Just got the console version, and I've been watching a few videos, they say that when a zombie falls like that they can or will rage. Im surprised they don't die from that fall height, is there a good change they can damage the support or more things once they come up a second time?
Thanks for watching - and it's a good question. You're correct on falls causing zombies to rage, but something I figured out a while back was the exact height requirement to stop zombies from raging, which is beyond 11 blocks. The video that I first covered this is here if you're interested! ruclips.net/video/EE8Tt2c8Ogo/видео.html
Hey - I do a mini build of this in an old starter base video, check out ruclips.net/video/GaMscLNlzY0/видео.htmlsi=TJsIbjB0ZtyuT1Yn&t=190, which will start just at the bit you need.
I use to use the switch to open the hatch but I found using the pressure plate is easier. All I have to do is step back when it gets crazy and flush them zambies.
I'm wracking my brains trying to figure out how you did the spiral tower staircase. I'm hoping you can provide some guide on how to do the whole thing. I'm guessing you did a 5m Round with a 1m Pillar in the center, but I can't reproduce the staircase.
Hey AlexTechie - sure thing: * The outside of the pillar is the Cube 1/4 7m round series, but missing some of the tiny inserts on the interior of the circle * Inside that is the Cube 5m Round series - it looked too thin with just these, which is why the 7m was added around the outside * The stairs are "Wedge Tip Stairs" and "Stairs Winder" on top and "Cube 1/2 ramp" underneath * And as you guessed 1m Pillar in the center. Let me know if that doesn't make sense!
Hey - thanks for watching! The spitters will only start up once they clear the top of the stairway - you'll still have to watch out for it but shouldn't be too bad. If it's an issue you can switch the defensive poles that I used out, and use the scaffold ladder as it (currently) blocks the cop spit. Birds actually get stuck underneath the platform - as they spawn underneath and have to fly up to get to you, but they don't know how to fly out far enough to clear the platform. That's why in the walkthrough I have the 4 smg turrets on the catwalk underneath - just to stop the squawking :D

No thankfully! The spawning for horde is always on the ground, and further out even than this base spans, and the ai prioritises getting on the same height level before most other activities. There is a rage mode mechanic as well, but I worked out how to bypass that in Alpha20 by staying out of range, so there's not much risk here. Single point of failure on the stairs up is the main risk from exploding zombies!
I really like the idea and I’m sitting here watching this and you got to the electric fence and I was thinking can’t you build a very large trap door with a handle on your side behind the bars and that way when they you can filter them in and when there’s enough pull the handle and just drop them
Here's how the stairs are built: * The outside of the pillar is the Cube 1/4 7m round series, but missing some of the tiny inserts on the interior of the circle * Inside that is the Cube 5m Round series - it looked too thin with just these, which is why the 7m was added around the outside * The stairs are "Wedge Tip Stairs" and "Stairs Winder" on top and "Cube 1/2 ramp" underneath * And 1m Pillar in the center. @@CautiousPancakeThe horde base design is nice too, ofc. I love the automated "redirect zeds" option. The lack of redundant pathing worries me a bit, but stairs do solve the problem of dogs beating up the ground level blocks.
@@Firebuck You're 100% on the money with the lack of redundant pathing - it mostly held up well though. The issues at the entrance were more on the walls than the stairs, and the middle pillar a bit, so you'd need to repair in between. Copsplosions triggered from fall damage (if doing afk or partial afk) is also a risk if they get into the stairway before they go boom!

Is there a need for the silencer? Wouldn't other mods be better, at least until you are back downstairs again.
No need - I just like it for videos sometimes to bring the noise down. With the urban combat book series complete there's no damage penalty, so you can use it then.
@@CautiousPancake Oh, very interesting about the "no penalty" bit. Thanks for keeping the noise down.
I love it!
Thanks!
Can you explain what bars those are you're shooting/fighting through? That's the thing I usually end up having trouble with
Hey - I do a mini build of this in an old starter base video, check out ruclips.net/video/GaMscLNlzY0/видео.htmlsi=TJsIbjB0ZtyuT1Yn&t=190, which will start just at the bit you need.
@@CautiousPancake thanks a ton! Great vids.
The hole in the floor is a great idea
Thanks!
My oh my. What a posh lad. Lol
That steel door though 😮 I need to try this game! 💜
You should - usually pretty cheap to pickup during a Steam sale!
Definitely wait for the next steam sale. Usually like $7 or so then.
@@bdubyah89 heck yeah!!
Awesome design!
Thank you! Cheers!
I use to use the switch to open the hatch but I found using the pressure plate is easier. All I have to do is step back when it gets crazy and flush them zambies.
Nice work!
Really like that base
Thanks, it turned out alright!
I'm wracking my brains trying to figure out how you did the spiral tower staircase. I'm hoping you can provide some guide on how to do the whole thing. I'm guessing you did a 5m Round with a 1m Pillar in the center, but I can't reproduce the staircase.
Hey AlexTechie - sure thing:
* The outside of the pillar is the Cube 1/4 7m round series, but missing some of the tiny inserts on the interior of the circle
* Inside that is the Cube 5m Round series - it looked too thin with just these, which is why the 7m was added around the outside
* The stairs are "Wedge Tip Stairs" and "Stairs Winder" on top and "Cube 1/2 ramp" underneath
* And as you guessed 1m Pillar in the center.
Let me know if that doesn't make sense!
@@CautiousPancake Thank you, I was able to build it!
@@AlexTechie Awesome - nice work!
this is very creative!!
Thanks!
Gah I wish you would do a build tutorial for this base!
the thought of that ... scares me :D it would probably be over an hour long and pretty boring!
@CautiousPancake ive been trying to replicate it and it's pain staking. I love your builds!
Love this! Do you not need to protect yourself from spitters? And do birds get up there?
Hey - thanks for watching!
The spitters will only start up once they clear the top of the stairway - you'll still have to watch out for it but shouldn't be too bad. If it's an issue you can switch the defensive poles that I used out, and use the scaffold ladder as it (currently) blocks the cop spit.
Birds actually get stuck underneath the platform - as they spawn underneath and have to fly up to get to you, but they don't know how to fly out far enough to clear the platform. That's why in the walkthrough I have the 4 smg turrets on the catwalk underneath - just to stop the squawking :D
I had a smaller idea but i might build it with pillares instead of full frame
Sounds great!
Dope Build, This is the Only 7 days channel i Watch lol 🫡
Thanks so much!
@@CautiousPancake no prob I tried building something similar and rage quit I hate I couldent get the support to look decent on the stairs dope build though I wasn't trying to do the invisible block thing or whatever lol
@@MikeMovesPLK haha we've all been there on a base build!
Зомбячий дождь- алилуя, дождь из зомбаков - оуеее.
LOL Now put that to the pointer Sisters melody.
can u make a tutorial how u built this base?
... that would be mammoth! :D and probably a bit boring - is there a part in particular you wanted to see?
I want to make a horde base that would last me like yours but i doubt i could make like yours this :D. As im pretty new. I just want a chill base to last until i quit you know. Afk/kill not to worry that they will hit the roots and i fall down :D@@CautiousPancake
@@yaboyflvckor456 Fair enough! If you want something with combat, check out my top 5 horde bases - ruclips.net/video/F05Od50jnL0/видео.html and if you want something more AFK, check out my AFK base playlist for some ideas! ruclips.net/video/TnOnrZD7IWg/видео.html
just start the game and saw this ^^ lol my god i think this game is really awesome .....
It's pretty fun for sure!
Doesnt AI have zombies attack the supports? Spawn upon your base?
No thankfully! The spawning for horde is always on the ground, and further out even than this base spans, and the ai prioritises getting on the same height level before most other activities. There is a rage mode mechanic as well, but I worked out how to bypass that in Alpha20 by staying out of range, so there's not much risk here. Single point of failure on the stairs up is the main risk from exploding zombies!
Do you have a tutorial on how this vehicle works? I still got no clue
the zombie dropper is so cool
Thanks :)
Base: Don't jump
Me: Geronimo oOoOO oOoOO
haha love it!
How did you do the runway stripes?
Road paint dash blocks, painted from underneath sometimes when the paint doesn't work from on top.
Also! Is that circular tower leading up, is that 7m?
It's a 5m staircase, with a 7m cylinder around it.
Really nice base design. AFK bases never made sense to me - How to make the most fun part of the game into the most boring. heh.
Yeah I get that, some love em some hate em, it's all good! 👍
oh boy, time for fun police to spend the next eight years countering this with flying teleporting zombies.
Super pomysł na bazę🙂👍.Ciekawy jestem jak by się sprawdziła w ,,Darkness Falls,,Pozdrawiam.
Thanks! Darkness falls may cause some difficulties with the small stairway, but I'm not sure!
I really like the idea and I’m sitting here watching this and you got to the electric fence and I was thinking can’t you build a very large trap door with a handle on your side behind the bars and that way when they you can filter them in and when there’s enough pull the handle and just drop them
отличное и познавательная инструкция для выживания в 7 Days to Die можно подобное увидеть в новой версии игры (7 Days to Die v1.0)
SOOOO cool!!!
wow looks diffirent 👍
Thanks!
I bet if you were to put one of those punch turrets where the one lady got to, you could optimize the afk one
absolutely!
How did you get the spiral stairs like that?
Here's how the stairs are built:
* The outside of the pillar is the Cube 1/4 7m round series, but missing some of the tiny inserts on the interior of the circle
* Inside that is the Cube 5m Round series - it looked too thin with just these, which is why the 7m was added around the outside
* The stairs are "Wedge Tip Stairs" and "Stairs Winder" on top and "Cube 1/2 ramp" underneath
* And 1m Pillar in the center.
Let me know if that doesn't make sense!
NIIIIIIIIIICE
I would have fallen off the side in the first 10 seconds
🤣🤣🤣 that's a risk for sure!
Holly fuck can’t wait for alpha 23 on consoles 😂 this is insane! Well done!
Haha coming ... soon? (but hopefully soon!)
@@CautiousPancake on pax event, they said this summer
@@Gaara7809 That would be awesome!
What platform are you playing on pc?
Yeah PC, hopefully the new console version is available soon!
Is this game ever going to come out of Alpha?
Really nice esthetic. I had to double check which game this was. 😁
Haha thanks!
Is the goddamn update ever coming to console. Or do I really have to build a damn PC just to play 7D2D.
It's inching closer from what I've seen, they demo'd Xbox version at twitch con. So hopefully "soon"? I hope actually soon!
can you explain the invisible stability blocks?
Sure can, try this one 😉 ruclips.net/video/64edNelNS1U/видео.html
