I have a bottle of Issue No. 2 "The Dock Man" 42 year old: my tasting notes are as vague as usual (adjectives like "sweet" and "light" etc.), but I summed it up as "gently elegant"...

Never knew that bit of history about Canadian Club during prohibition. Great video as always, Moa!

If I remember right, the base is a corn whisky. I've tried several of them - at a whisky festival I did get to try the first 3 consecutively. I like them, however I do feel that while cheaper that other 40+ year old whiskies, the prices for these are too high for the drink you get. I'd like it to have more boldness in the flavours.

Never had a Canadian whisky before. However the name Canadian club does ring a bell. Gonna explore a bit later today. One other thing. I did mention during a live chat here on RUclips we’re visiting Scotland this year. September thé 5th we’re arriving in Edinburgh. We are staying for 3 days before heading for islay. You said you are working at a whisky…..something. I believe the whisky exchange but I might be wrong. Maybe we could pay a visit. Please let me know where we must go. Interesting video. Well have a nice day. Off to work. Slainthe

How exciting that it’s so soon now! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I used to work at The Scotch Whisky Experience and then also The Scotch Malt Whisky Society - both worth a visit! The SWE has a great bar in their Amber Restaurant if you’re looking for scotch whisky and SMWS has a bar open to the public on Queen Street ☺️ Let me know if you’re looking for any other recommendations and I’m always happy to help!

It will take more than 9 minutes to get acquainted with a whisky over 40 years old. Nice review anyway. In my experience, very old grain whisky is more about buttery texture and luxurious mouthfeel than complex flavours. Haven’t had the Chronicles series but I’ve had several other old Canadian whiskies: Alberta Premium 25, Danfields 21, Century Reserve 21, Gibson’s 18, etc.

Which one of them did you like the best? ☺️

@@swedishwhiskygirl probably Alberta Premium 25 year old rye. Wasn’t that long ago you could find it for $30 in Ontario.

I think you are looking for more complexity than what the "Canadian Whiskey" style is capable of producing. With the emphasis being on "smoothness", Canadian distillers are forced to sacrifice depth and complexity. That is why Canadian Whiskey is permitted to add up to 1/11 by volume other flavorings. It is necessary to artificially add those characteristics. Blended grain whiskey, in my opinion, lacks the nuances that are created by a mash bill.

Hmm yes perhaps that’s what it is! It seems some of the newer Canadian distilleries have another approach? I did find more info after my review which mentioned sherry and rye whiskey possibly being added to this whisky - do you know if that’s common practice?
