It works well, acceptable for sipping but designed for a CC&7(with 7-Up soda), CC&G (with ginger ale) and as a Manhattan Cocktail (1/3 CC 2/3 Vermouth, crushed ice, shaken,(not stirred) and a cherry on top. Canadian Club 12 Year Small Batch. I drink it straight up. Each drink adds a new flavour. I get a lot of vanilla by numer 6.
YES! It is so good. Better than Crown Royal IMO.

Another thing worth mentioning about Jack Daniels: the charcoal they use is sugar maple - it not only smooths the whiskey, but, since it contains some residual sugars, it adds some sweetness.

I love my CC. It's just right for me! It's light, sweet, and CHEAP! I enjoy it throughly and don't understand why it gets such a bad rap.

Just grabbed a bottle. Yes it was cheap but this makes a decent old fashioned. Not too imposing; very enjoyable. Recommended!

11 dollars, mild, friendly flavor, and amazing history. This was the brand of hooch Al Capone was slinging around.
CC is great whisky. my drink of choice. Very smooth. But there are alot of juveniles here that would disagree.

I enjoy it, it’s affordable and is easy to drink. Better than JD in my opinion.
I spotted 2 1.75 liter bottles of Canadian Club extra aged at my local Walmart For 10 Dollars American for each bottle. At first I didn't purchase them but after watching this review I decided to make the purchase and Wal-Mart still had both bottles for 10 Dollars Good deal for a pretty good Whiskey. It's interesting how for such an iconic whisky it's so polarizing to people- some of you love it and some of you hate it.
Kind of like with J&B, for some its fun to hate on that one too but I love it.
I realize this is 11 years late but Ralfy flew from Scotland to Victoria....that's all the way across the pond and THEN across all of Canada, What a trip!
I buy it as a mixer (for manhattans) but I often find myself drinking it straight because this stuff really ain't bad at all.

It wasnt his favourite, it was the one he got to export illegally the most during prohibition. It was shit whisky then and is still shit whisky now. The o ly reason to buy it is for its history

This is a very smooth whiskey. I always drink this straight up on the rocks, it's very nice :)
I am a big Jameson fan. Drink a lot of it neat or on the rocks depending on the night. Recently went into Cognac with Hennessy and Dusse. Both were delicious!
Found a bottle of this Canadian Club from 1981 in the liquor cabinet. And honestly, I would put it in a class with Jameson. Cognac is super expensive but coming up as my favorite spirit.
That being said, for the price of this whisky I am pleased. It is not bad at all. Much better than I expected.
Look up Fastival Express 1970, a bunch of artists (Janis, grateful dead, buddy guy etc.) 6 days on a train across Canada, 3rd day; nothing left in the bar cart so… they raided a liquor store in Saskatoon were they bought a display bottle of Canadian Club… needless to say it was gone in one night.
Anyway keep these reviews coming, they are exceptionally good.

Ralfy I just received a bottle of CC 6 year old from 1979!!! A very interesting dram to say the least. Some of your notes from the new version apply but I feel it's more complex than what you're getting there.

CC has a range of products. Their 12 yr is often $15-20 on sale in states, which is unbeatable. Their 9 yr isn't half bad. Not a fan of standard CC myself, unless in a coke.
I drink it all the time with 7UP Zero sugar and it makes the best drink. Love it and the only thing I like better with my 7UP is CC Small Batch but thats for special.
same here..i just finished a bottle of the 12 year..had it with coke,7up,and straight..and although i usually drink bourbon...i was very impressed with its simple sweet character..when value is taken into consideration,its every bit as good as crown royal....maybe better.peace
Canadian Club is the benchmark of all Canadian whisky. Their regular, beginning, whisky, which you have there, is a premium whisky in itself. Very smooth, with a lot of good vanilla oakyness. Very fine in itself (straight with water), or as a basis in an Old Fashioned. (Another high grade basis for an O.F. is Wild Turkey, btw). I think the 82 is too low there, Ralfy, should be 87/88. You're too used too your fine Scotchs.

Hey Ralfy, I've recently found a bottle of Sherry Cask matured Canadian Club at a local shop for a wonderful price and bought it up. Given time to open up, its really not a bad dram, especially for the price. Might want to look for it if you're ever going to go through another run of Canadian Spirits.
I must add, that it's not quite as available as mentioned here. Here in Latvia you can hope to find it large specialized stores such as the one I am employed at. I disliked the initial nose of it due to the aldehyde smell as you say. In fact it had me concerned about the authenticity of what I had bought because it didnt strike me as what a good whisky ought to smell like. However the flavor was a smooth, pleasantly sweet and fruity affair. Overall nice.

I knew this would bring the snobs out. These knuckleheads remind me of when Ralph and Ed of the "Honeymooners" drank grape juice thinking it was wine and proceeded to get drunk.
Decent whisky, a little thin overall but great as a mixer and unparalleled in the price range.
I bought that, it's really awesome stuff for the price.
They make CC right in my city. Good history behind it.
When I buy a whiskey I always end up buying CC. I don't want my whiskey competing with my mouth. The best thing is it tastes great in my morning coffee. Anyway, I just enjoy it's flavour, , every time.
watching this sipping some Canadian club whisky 6 year aged, was going to get the 12 year but they don't make a 1 litre bottle of it haha, guess i like my drink, it is a tremendously flavorful yet not too over powering taste drunk beautifully straight, on ice or excellent with a few dashes of dry ginger ale, im in Australia by the way, about 6 good glasses in so im a little inebriated, but my spellings fine thanks to the spell check hahaha, wonderful smooth drink i must say,
The best whisky
Canadian blended whiskies are really similar to blended Scotch, except for the flavoring whisky they use a pot stilled Rye, instead of Barley malt. They are made to be used in highballs and whisky and soda. The same thing blended Scotch is primarily used for. These types of light blends are actually better in a highball than a single malt or a straight whisky.

Hey Ralfy, would you recommend the regular Premium Canadian Club or the 12-year? I've tried this one but a few people at the LCBO recommended the 12-year and claim it's a better quality whiskey. What are your thoughts?
CC getting a lot of flack. Rightly so, but it's not bad. I've had worse whiskies and I had generally sip CC, but I prefer it on ice.

I'm no reviewer and no snob. I got a miniature of this ($0.83 cents!) because I like trying different things, even if I may not like them, it's still worth the experience, even the cheap basic stuff. Of course, I try to avoid buying whole bottles when I can, which is why when I'm a guest and offered Red Label or something cheap like that, which I'd never buy, I'm always eager to drink it :) I can taste the red apple note (plus apple seed) that I find in rye and Canadian whiskies, a malty background (distant like in Irish blends) and caramelly vanillin sweetness. I insist that it's not "vanilla" but precisely "vanillin". Vanilla bean is a natural flavor (of which vanillin is the predominant note, of course) and is very complex, it contains hundreds of aromatics, which is why you always want natural vanilla extract (alcohol based, by the way) or even the actual vanilla bean pods and not the vanillin crystals for your desserts and bakery. On the other hand, vanillin still smells tasty and pleasant but is a very singular note (it is literally a single molecule). You find this in cheaper sweets, desserts, ice cream, etc. Vanillin in spirits is derived from oak lignin via charred/toasted barrel maturation. Better spirits develop other complex aromatics so as to remind you of VANILLA while cheaper stuff develops more of VANILLIN. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking with it ;)
I'm a Canadian and I would never by CC or Crown Roya or Wiser's for that matter. I prefer Forty Creek, Dillon's, Alberta Premium, and Collingwood. My favourite sipping whisky from Canada is Alberta Premium Cask Strength (currently 65.1% ABV).
Please do! It's a very decent sipping Whisky that doesn't get promoted much.

@Cadmium77 "Rye" is ofen associatd with "Canadian" whiskey but unfortunately that assesment is wrong. Most Canadian whiskeys are blends. If you don't like "Rye" i'm assuming you mean Canadian Whiskey. I suggest trying: "Forty Creek" (Any kind but especially Conferderate Oak) and I also suggest, if you can find any it's been discontinued to try: "Century Reserve lot 1525" (The 15yo not the 21yo. The 21 almost tastes watered down.) "Glen Breton 10yo" is also very nice! Cheers!!

To say CC is the “best whisky ever, very nice” just shows the inexperience. Coming from a Canadian, I think it’s garbage. Gasoline with added caramel. There are 1000’s upon 1000’s of whiskies out there, don’t just settle on one until you’ve experienced a few others first.
@@lippa2105 it’s a good whisky, and I know some about whisk(e)y. I’ve had The Glenlivet 18, Johnnie Walker Blue, The Macallan 12, and many other high end and single malt whiskies. CC is a good whiskey. Best served on ice. Great value.

I have a 50ml miniature of Canadian club & it says aged 6 years & 37.5% alc/vol. I think it's a fair few years old

As a Canadian I really don't like most Canadian whiskeys, I do recommend some of the Forty Creek products like the recent FC Evolution (although overpriced). The Highwood Distilleries Ninety "decades of richness" 20 years old at 90 proof may be the best Canadian whiskey I ever tasted at a more reasonable $48.

My father has 3 bottle's of Canadian Club whiskey from 1962, 1964 & 1972, and 2 bottle's of Crown Royal from 1968, and 4 bottle's of Seagram's V.O. 1972, I'd tried to get him to crack open at least one of the bottles, but he insists that he's saving them for a special occasion.
Ralfie.... for just a couple of dollars more you can get the Canadian club classic 12 that is a much better whiskey .
To drink, or not too drink.. that is the question.. let Canadian Club decide. :)

I'd like to think that I'm pretty open minded when it comes to what I drink. While I prefer a nice, old, single malt scotch I would never turn down a glass of cheap Kentucky Bourbon, or just about any other whisky. But I must say that I detest Canadian Club, Seagrams Seven, VO, and all of the other Canadian whiskies that I have tried.

A great value is Canadian Club Classic 12 year old. It has the richness and depth lacking in the standard 6 year old.
How much do see this bottle selling for where you are? I live in MS in the US and found a place where I can get a 6 year 750ml bottle for 11 dollars. Blew my mind with being a 21 year old whiskey drinker on a budget. Haven't tried it yet though. Got a brand called Old-Grandad 86 proof I've been wanting to try first for 13 dollars. Its ok. It burns. Its nice. Whatever. But I think I'll try this one next. Especially for 11 dollars.
I think you'll really like the CC. I am originally from Ms. though I live in Texas now and I get this CC 1858 for about $14.00. Love it, especially mixed with soda.
