- ... in this Vlog, I consider the whiskies reviewed over the last 6 reviews, and also where Canadian Whisky's at, and finally, ... where the future lays in developing the character of Canadian Whisky.
I get hunters rye canada whiskey here in Wisconsin USA for $12.00 a bottle quart that is now for that price my hat goes off to you good old Canadians thanks for a good whiskey at a very fair price ... Love you Canadians your all welcome in my house anytime taken you would want to even come to the USA anymore God Bless You all
There's a place in Halifax that sells whiskey cake made with Glen Bretton Whiskey...it is absolutely delicious...These are all good canadian Whiskey's but, being from Canada, my favorite Canadian Whiskey is Gibsons would love to see you do a review of any of the Whiskey's Gibsons has to offer.
Some of my personal favourite Canadian Whiskies:
- Lot no 40 rye whisky
- Forty Creek Confederation oak
- Forty Creek Copper pot
- Gooderham & Worts 4 grain
Crown Royal Northern Harvest rye
- Alberta Premium Dark Horse
- Pike Creek 10 year old port cask
- Wiser's Red Letter
... to name but a few
have you tried Gibsons 12 yr?
Ralphie, this idea of yours in now being experimented with glenmorangies tale of the forest, where they are using forest botanicals such as juniper and pine in fires to dry their malts. It would be a very good idea for Canadian distillers to pick up, particularly in the craft or connoisseur scene, cheers
. . . very much so.
I would love for you to try Crown Royal Northern harvest Ralphy! For the first few months it was impossible to find because it would leave the shelves as quickly as it was put on them. It's really a great product with a higher alcohol percentage (45%).
If you ever make it back here to Canada you shall try 'Sortilège prestige' it is a 7 year french canadian whiskey with first run maple. find it in the vintages sections.
YES! Nova Scotia for the win!
Love the videos keep them coming!
I was hoping you were gonna say something about Crown Royal, as it is by far my favorite whiskey to date, but oh well. I'm by no means knowledgeable about whiskeys, having only dared to play around with smooth Canadians and Americans so far (carefully trying some Scotch nowadays, but it's not being gentle with me, hehe), so it would be fun to see if you had some hints as to where I could go from there :)
Enjoying the reviews! Cheers!
Thank you very much for the Canadian reviews. I just discovered your channel and am greatly appreciative of your advice and reviews as I'm a newcomer to the magical world of whisky. I'm Canadian so I'm trying to specialize my whisky education to my home country out of loyalty and also because it's almost always half as expensive as any other kind of whisky here.
I am curious if you've tried Ungava gin, which is made with local botanicals from the tundra of far northern Quebec.
Cool channel. Well done! We truly liked it.
Nothing from Highwood Distilleries, without Canadian Century 21 years (less than $50) and Ninety (proof) "Decades of Richness" aged 20 years in charred oak barrels (less than $50) then the review of Canadian whiskey is incomplete. Also through in some of the special Forty Creek stuff.
Try Crown Royal Limited Edition it's available only in Canada. Also Gibson's 12 year and especially their 18 year. I also recommend you try Collingwood very good Canadian Whisky.
Forty Creek is tops. I especially like the double-barrel reserve.
crown royal is one of my favorite whiskeys, have you reviewed any of them yet? and what do you think of it?
Bravo mon ami. Et merci pour ce vlog-ci !
O Ralfy you do wax poetic about the Land up North and the chance of new botanicals!
Forty Creek and Canadian club are my favorites, they are similar and both cheap, otherwise if you want to spend more get Canadian Club 100% Rye or Gibsons 18 yr
The Wisers is the best one here IMO. The Glen Breton I gave away to someone I didn't like.
I'm actually from NS and I had glen for the first time years ago very good whiskey 👍👍👍 the glen Breton rare is aged in used whisky barrels from Jack Daniels.
Wow this is very good video presenting very valuable & use full information. Thanks for sharing.
King Ralfy!!!
Your the best Ralfy!...glad to see you think highly of Forty creek...its one of my current local faves. Any plans on doing a Gin review sometime?!!
please do a review of crown royal highly recomended
Lot No. 40 Single Copper Pot Still whisky is excellent. In my opinion, the best that Canada has to offer currently. Would you be able to get your hands on a bottle?
I just bought a bottle of Gibsons 12 Year Old, and it is a fine whisky for the price in Canada. Chip Dykstra of "The Rum Howler" fame tried it during a low period when the distilling had moved from Hiram Walker to Schenley in Quebec. If you haven't tried this whisky, try it now. It is rich with rye spice, corn sweetness and smoke. There are Ardbeg-esque barley notes also. Is it as good as most Scotch Whisky's and Bourbons? No. Is it better than Forty Creek Barrel Select? Yes.
Love me Canadian Club!
Wiser's is definitely some great whiskey. Not so great when being vomited up though, as I've learned the hard way. Proud to be Canadian!
Crown Royal Reserve aged 25 yrs. Comes with a certificate of authenticity. I spent $55 buying a 26er of it for New Years. You seem to enjoy whiskey in all it's forms, I highly recommend you try and get a bottle for no other reason then personal pleasure.
yea,, i'm not the biggest fan of canadian whiskey,,,but the crown royal is very good
I must not have a very sophisticated palette as many of the flavours detected (or sensuously imagined) by you with regards to various drams are completely lost on me. Still, I've enjoyed watching your videos and learning more about the wonderful world of whisky.
Thanks for the share booze bud! This is real review!5/5*
Glen Breton bottle is nearly empty - I wonder which was Ralfy's favourite?
Very observant William ! I think , that there are two schools of thought on consumption prior to the video, is that perhaps there needed to be multiple samples taken prior to camera, to fully appreciate the flavours imparted by the varitions on the Canadian Whisky brands, then on the other hand is the availability of the various brands on the Isle of Manx, and the high tarrifs applied at the border. Perhaps the two leftmost bottles are available locally, and for this reason, that they do not get sampled as often as the other four, although the fourth(sixth) sample looks like it it is due for replacement (soon).
Awesome!!
Thanks once again!
ive always found club pretty harsh. a bit of a pungent alcohol aroma. premium and 40 creek have always been my go to cheap bottles.
i personally enjoy alberta premium and forty creek
Also, here's a brainstorm. Some people accept bottles from strangers for reviews, but they are potentially unsafe, and reserved to countries who allow alcohol export. You should start Kickstarters or something similar for bottles people want you to review. Then you can obtain exotic whiskies, and whiskies you would not pay for yourself
Hey Ralfy;
Thans for another great upload video. I have been meaning to ask you for months, what is that black thing in the lower left with all the silver dots on it? It is on the shelf in the background and has been driving me crazy. lol.
Thanks!
Canadian club is a very nice one!
However, at the moment of writing, it's
the only canadian i've drunk so far, as an amateur.
Will you please review crown royal maple
I like this guy
Where is crown royal
Hey! can you do a review of Crown Royal Black?
Can you review the JP Wiser's 35? Thanks
I'm very serious about whisky but I'm afraid that I have to go in a rehab .... I'm nor a "responsible" drinker ... just joking ....
Do you think you might ever do a video review on any variety of Crown Royal?
gibsons finest...
wow, very surprise you didn't include crown royal? but i get it.
sorry ralfy, but youve over looked the king of Canadian whiskey, and that would be the 18 yo Gibsons.
Hahaha! I Knew it!! We get Doctor Who on a Canadian channel here.
What's the lowest score you've ever given any whisky (of any kind)? I've watched a dozen or two of your videos now, and the reviews always seem to be about in the 80 to 90 range.
What's the best Canadian Rye whiskey to drink. Idk 30-40 dollars price range.
Conor Lawrence Alberta Premium is pretty good and it costs under 30$. For 35$ you can get Crown Royal Northern harvest, it's fantastic and comes in at 45%.
If you lke virgin oak bite? Lot 40 rye whisky. You like rye fruitiness/spiciness? Crown Royal Northern Harvest.
You like it smooth? Canadian Club 12 year
You like a kick? 40 creek copper pot.
All fantastic choices, let us know what you think if you try them!
Lot 40
crown royal noble cornerstone review please.
you should try canadian club sherry its awesome
i am canadian and my friend i dont know where u come from if yuu can get crown royal limited edition and the canadian club small batch (12 y.o) but u must try!!!
What about Black Velvet?
Look at some aged whisky's and ones actually more then 15 dollars :P
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Ralfy, Canadian Whisky is an underachiever. To me it's just not as interesting as it should be.
I think the blending art is lacking. IT can make a great rye base if you know how to do it. I make my own blend and use just a small amount of certain scotch malt to brighten up the flavor and the results can be spectacular. If I knew anything about marketing, I would try to sell what I'm drinking right now. To my (fairly experienced) palate, it's better than JW Gold at half the price.
By the way, how do you get the flavors of trees - trees! - in hooch?
storage in wooden barrels imparts wood/tree flavours.
*****
With the number of trees you mentioned those barrels had to have been made from scrap wood.
TheJStamey It's common for batches of whiskey to either be aged in different types of barrels and then blended together at the end of the aging process, or to be aged in used barrels that impart the flavors of other spirits/wine.

I can remember my first time drinking gun. Can't remember what brand, it was a few years ago before I got used to drinking straight liquor, and my actual reaction was "It's like chewing on a pinecone", but I've since tried more gin, and find it tasty.
The only thing Canada got right was their whiskys and Trailer Park Boys series
Try Collingwood next time you're in Canada.
do you like crown royal
your missing the best of all Canadian whisky.....Gibson's finest 12 year old
Very true I have tried all Gibson such a good whiskey 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Don't forget Lot 40!
I give you a 6/10 for your ratings. You failed to mention that of all Canadian whisky, Alberta Premium is the only one made with 100℅ rye
You can't talk about Canadian whiskey without talking about Crown Royal.
Crown is to Canada what Jack is to America and Jameson is to Ireland.
what about Crown Royal?
crown royal is garbage its only good for mixing with ginger ale it's all over the place no good for sipping, 12 your old small batch Canadian club is the best in Canada to drink straight whisky
Victoria Gin? Is that a 1984 reference?
Forty creek copper pot
had some wild nights smashin 40s of Fourty Creek with my cuz. good times..
forty creek, is an amazing rye
7:45 haha Ralfy of course those lack finish and flavours they are mixing whisky's...bottom of the barrel garbage and at most aged 3 years TOPS but im thinking a few months on most. Get some good 21 year old Canadian whiskys and then talk about Canadian whisky's lacking finish :)
Don't get me wrong Id still prefer just about any scotch single malt over any Canadian whisky (maybe its cause im from Canada maybe its because I just don't see us as being real whisky makers) Kind of like say the Vietnamese trying to tell us Canadians how to play hockey? aint gonna happen...
But Im just saying the Canadian whisky's you picked are just about the lowest of the low as far as Canadian whisky's go infact they pretty much are the absolute bottom.
Id be very interested to see you try some real aged 20+ year Canadian whisky's because truthfully I myself have never tried them...ive completely written them off...but I am hearing great things about them lately
Truly these 2 low price Canadian whisky are taste way better than the most yucky taste and burn your mouth - the yucky Pendleton Midnight blended Canadian whisky, costs $45 Canadian a bottle. this Pen.M. should be called midnight puke.
they're resting on their laurels, the best canadian whiskys are at least 90% rye
Where is the Crown royal !?
+aneanthesieus On a shelf getting dusty, where it belongs. Total crap whisky
mattyT65 Your kidding right... its a nice rye. Also there is real crap here like the Canadian club.
+aneanthesieus It's good for mixing yes. Club is bottom of the barrel for sure. Other than their 100% rye. That's decent.
All blends suck.
Im from Canada and the whisky's you have there are a VERY bad presentation of Canadian whiskys....those are ALL whiskys meant to be mixed hahaha nobody here sips those whiskys
+TheJusnic82 That's a fair point, but most of us have to make do with what we can get. I do sip Forty Creek though. Start exporting your better stuff please!
+TheJusnic82 To be honest, Canadian whisky has nothing on Scotch or even most US whisky/bourbon. 90% of Canadian whisky should be mixed
Buy the good ones and you won't have to mix.
The good ones cost almost as much as a cheap bottle of Scotch which is way better
