** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

After a long, hard and stressful day of work up here in northern Canada, there is nothing better to look forward to than a shower, a whiskey pour and opening youtube to enjoy and cheers with you guys. Keep the videos coming. We love them.
A caribou is a reindeer, not a moose... Get it straight guys!
was about to sat the same thing
It doesn't matter, canadialand isn't real anyway
Well that just hurt...
Caribou and reindeer are different also. Reindeer are domesticated. But yeah it's printed on the box get it straight guys!
They're the same species, the Rangifer tarandus. Like you said, the reindeer are smaller and domesticated while the caribou are larger and still considered wild. One thing for sure though Shawn, a caribou is not a moose!
Hey Guys. First time commentator. My better half has been a scotch enthusiast for a long time now and he started watching you guys a few months ago. I on the other hand have always found the smell way to powerful and have never tried any. We came across the How To Choose A Whiskey Glass Episode and had to get ourselves some Glencairn glassware. One night we were hanging out with a friend watching some Whiskey Vault/Tribe videos and having some drinks. He poured them both a glass of Glenmorangie Original, as I sat there listening to them talk I was overcome by the smell so I grabbed the glass and took a sniff, I've been hooked ever since. I've tried some Glenmorangie Original(which is my favorite so far), Auchentoshan Three wood and some others that have made the way into the collection every since he started watching the channel (yikes) :)
I'm looking forward to developing my palate and trying new things
Cheers
Cloe AWESOME! welcome to a new obsession!
Welcome to the tribe!
You might want to try one of the Glenmorangie sample sets if you can find one. It has the Lasanta, the Quinta Ruban, and the Nectar D'or as well as the original. You can explore some of the different types of finishes applied to a whisky that you already enjoy.
I just got back into whiskey about 8 months ago. I tend to lean more towards scotch. Especially Ardbeg. I just picked up a bottle Caribou less then 1hour ago. And just finished a glass while watching this episode. I thought it was pretty good. I had never seen it before until today, considering that they only send 3 bottles in a case. Thanks for the review!
And for Peat's Sake! (see what I did there) someone save that Ardbeg 10!
So I have been a long time subscriber who watched out of interest and not really delving into the whiskeys. After reviewing old stuff that I had forgotten I decided to get a Highland Park 12 single Malt. Now some times I watch you and you explain all these notes and smells, it is difficult to understand. I tried it, a small dram and inhaled as you have said and was taken aback. Honey, flower, then like heather with sweets (the name I cannot remember nailvarnish) then I left if and went back and had a sip now I got leather and peak and moss with a small hint of smoke or ash. It blew my mind. Actually more smoked peat than smoke (half Irish so I know burning peat smell). Sat here typing this with a leathery sweat aftertaste. Good whiskey is so surprising, thanks guys.
I feel like if Daniel is going to sing like Ariel during Saint acknowledgements, Rex should do the Halo opening.
Got to be honest, I think the awkward silence works better without the crickets. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.
I don't think Rex can pull off silence for more than 2.5 seconds to be honest with ya.
After spending the entire summer watching through all the videos, I'm finally caught up on both channels! Thanks for all the reviews; the entertainment value has been amazing. Since starting your videos, I've tried as many different whiskies as my budget will allow, and I'm finding new stuff I really like all the time. I have conceded that even though I styled myself a bourbon drinker for years, I am definitely a scotch drinker instead. While bourbon is fine, the smokey, peaty, briny scotches are really winning me over. Currently, I'm working on a bottle of Talisker Storm (which I'd love to see a review of at some point) and a bottle of Laphroiag Quarter-Cask. I really enjoy them both! Cheers!
Yes its a Caribou not a moose. However I got this at the Traverse city Bevco or beverage company and it is simply Delicious. No other way to say it. Thanks, Steve.
Daniel! You love martinis and scotch. Why not try a laphroaig washed glass and pour in a dirty vodka martini with crispy bacon stuffed olive
Always a pleasure to watch these guys.
Me and a group of friends have decided that whenever we buy a bottle of hard alcohol that we must invest an equal sum in the stock market. Hopefully one day our passion can pay for its self.
An Oa is my favorite Ardbeg
Scotch and donut pairing.
My favorite: maple donut with bacon and octomore. Compliment the dark bacon and contrast the sweet bacon. Love to hear you guy’s opinions!!!!
Sam Stephens I need to try that this fall
While continuing to binge watch through all the videos, Daniel has mentioned Richard Patterson enough times that I started looking up his material. After watching his stuff for a bit I realized that I would love to see him in the vault if for nothing more than to see Rex react to the copious amount of whiskey that would be thrown on the floor during the episode.
This is slightly off topic and I'm not sure if you have answered this in other videos but, are y'all planning on partnering up with one of the tour companies. I know in the Austin area and all the way to Fredericksburg they do tours for wineries, craft breweries, and distilleries. Just curious, its something I was considering when I looked at starting a distillery as part of marketing. Love the channel and look forward to visiting once y'all are operational.
I discovered Legacy a year or 2 ago and have been recommending it as an entry whiskey ever since! It's super friendly and inexpensive.
Is that Pike's Creek over Rex's shoulder the whiskey finish, or the rum finish?
Gotta love a good Canadian review! You guys don't seem to ever enjoy them though :) Are there any Canadian whiskies you guys do enjoy?
Did they do a Ardbeg Grooves review yet?
Hey, guys,
several weeks ago I had to buy a bottle of the Caribou to get a store pick Blanton's (which is very nice). The Caribou was so nasty that I had to take it back. I was allowed to exchange it for a 1L Larceny and a store pick Buffalo Trace. I'm happy now.
Rock Hill Farms bottle with a Blanton's topper in a Crown Royal Bag. Wax is the same as Blanton's too.
Congrats on passing ralfy as the biggest whiskey review channel!!!!
*Rex his whisper voice* ; Danniellllll
Do barrels get washed/rinsed with water after a Scottish distillery receives the bourbon/sherry casks/staves? Or do they just let the left over bourbon/sherry dry into the wood and then fill with their new make spirit without rinsing it with water to get the optimal taste?
Drinking some now and it really is lovely. Smooth and easygoing.
Hi guys,
I'm a scotch drinker, but recently bought a bottle of Bourbon (Maker's Mark) not having much experience drinking Bourbon I can only describe the taste as moldy/musty if you follow me, the whiskey smells OK so I'm only finding this on the taste. My only other taste of a bourbon I recall a similar taste, is this a distinct character taste of bourbon or have I been unlucky on both occasions?
Love channel and content.
Ive never seen any legacy other than the legacy small batch near me but the legacy small batch in the liqour stores and grocery stores near me only runs around 23 USD
Hey guys I am new to drinking Whish(e)y but have been watching your channel for months. I have tried Makers Mark and didn’t really care for it, I thought it tasted/smelled like rubbing alcohol. I do love to drink beer though (who doesn’t?) and I am really starting to fall in love with dark stouts/porters. I particularly like the toasted notes of oats and vanilla these styles of beer have. My question to you is what is a great entry Whisk(e)y that also has these characteristics?
Nice video! Question: if not whisky, what spirit would you like to get into? Cheers!
Great job as always guys. I would just like to put this out there. Rex needs his mooch status returned. It is time to find a new spirit animal. Something along the lines of a racoon, that will raid your home. Or even a vulture. He can circle the remains of an almost finished bottle. Mourning time is over. Bring back the mooch😉
Is there a relationship between how fancy a bottle is and how ordinary the whisky is?
Blantons topper
Crown/Blantons bag
Rock hill farms bottle (completely identical)
Dasani flavor
6/10
Y'all should have done a comparison against blantons on this and proofed the blantons down to match
Now I love the show, I think I've watched a good 90-odd% of the episodes, several of them more than once. But I can't be the only one to imagine (and cringe at) there being an earthquake in the vault. Those shelves are are awesome but the idea of so much good whiskey in such small space is a little terrifying to me. Love the show guys :)
Have you ever tried Loch Dhu 10, aka Black Whisky?
Is that bottle of 1792 still sitting in your office, or did it fall down.
still there!
Can we blindfold Daniel in an episode at some point and see if he can tell where the whisky came from? I'd really just love to see if he can tell if a scotch is speyside, highland, islay, etc. just from the taste and not seeing the bottle.
zackzenron too easy. Daniel should be able to name the distillery, if not the actual bottle
I'm 19 seconds in to this video and Rex is pronouncing Caribou as M-O-O-S-E. *slap*
1:12 in and Danny is pronouncing it the same way. I think this is one of the few times when it's appropriate to use the term "'tards".
Yeah, Chad is the dumb one.
They’re trolling the tribe again. Same as with SMOOOOTH.
Man, I hope that's true but I really doubt it.
I miss you, Jimmy.
Do you all like the newer versions (Galileo and newer) that Ardbeg is coming out with, or (if you have tried them), prefer the 70s distillates?
Also, if yall need a bottle of Galileo let me know :P
BTW for yalls info. Galileo was not sent into space, it was simply a tribute to it.
Hey, guys? I know I'm writing this at like 11PM Pacific time the day you posted this video, so it's been up for about 20 hours, and you've already gotten over 100 comments by now, but just in case no one's mentioned it yet I'm given to understand that's a caribou on top of the cork, not a moose. Thought I'd let you know, in the event no one else has noticed before now.
Crown Royal did a single barrel called "hand selected".
I was literally in the liquor store today, picked up this bottle, considered buying it and then put it down. If only I had gone through with it I could drink along with you guys :/
So with hundreds of whiskey bottles open at one time how do you guys ever manage to finish them before the air exposure gets them?
QUESTION?
I had a bottle of Glenfiddich 15 year old Solera, the first half of the bottle was good not great but the second half was the MAGNIFICENT... What causes this to happen? And what can I do to make it happen sooner, with the next bottle I purchase? Could I decanter half the bottle or leave the bottle un-corked or just open it up everyday and don't not drink it for a while... Any suggestions would be great. And what other bottles have this happen to you guys, first half OK bit that second half great... Thanks keep up the good work
That happens to me all the time. Oxidation is a wonderful thing, until it ruins everything. It's part of the whisky adventure, don't rush it.
I find Glenfiddich gets fishy if you open it more than 3 times
how many time was moose mentioned, for a caribou whisky
Haven't had it but that's a rock hill farms bottle with a Blanton's top
... And it's not "self proclaimed" .. I don't think I've ever called myself that. I just kinda let it ride and have fun with it...
Days without correction back to 0
Daniel, you're talking about Ardbeg Galileo, it wasn't aged in space, but just a marketing thing to honour a small amount they sent into space. You can't actually get the stuff they sent up there.
So I have been trying to decide on the "perfect" bottle of scotch to celebrate graduating college with. I have a price range of $200-$400 that I am willing to spend and am willing to buy more than one bottle. I fell in love with Ardbeg, reminds me of smoking briquet as a child, but my friends are divided almost down the middle for loving/hating it. This is a bottle I want to share, but is something I want to be special to me if that make sence.
You should do a review on the Rogue whiskeys
Rick Maze they did one on the dead guy. They didn't give it a good review.
I can't find a bottle of Ardbeg Grooves to buy for myself anywhere, but my regular bar has some. They're charging $75/pour. :(
Love the crickets!
Whiskey instead of mouth wash! I love it!
Hey guys, have you ever thought about uploading your videos into a podcast? I know a good group of people that would love to listen to this while we work.
The top might look like Blanton's, but the bottle shape is Rock Hill Farms.
Sazerac does reuse variations of their bottle designs for their different brands. Check their site...... www.sazerac.com/our-brands/sazerac-brands.html
Here are the great French Canadian cervids: Caribou (Reindeer), Orignal (Moose), Cerf (Deer), Wapiti (Elk). Am I missing one?
Honestly, you drink Caribou at a Cabane à Sucre and you're happy as hell xD
Dwarf Norwegian forest deer.....very rare
Caribou is in a Rock Hill Farms (also a Sazerac product) bottle. Sazerac failed miserably on the Caribou.
Blantons does the wax and bag too though.
I think they are all are owned by Sazerac.
Are we going to deal with the fact that Jason Voorhees asked a question?
Probably
There is a regular at my bar named Jason Voorhees. He seems like a nice guy... But they always do.
Cariboooo like Subaru but different! Lol!
You should try some South African whisky.
Slightly disappointed in Daniel. Think he is referring to Supernova. Which was put out as a celebration of the experiment of aging a small amount of whiskey in space. The whiskey they bottled for consumption was not the actual liquid that went to space. Silly boy.
If my memory serves me, they didn't actually send whisky into space, just certain molecules. I know Supernova was the celebration of that happening, but for some reason I thought they had gotten to a release altered based on what they learned. After this video, I researched it and found they'd basically not done a damn thing different. Oh well.
Whiskey Vault yeah one of their "gimicki" releases, a "reason" for a special release I guess.
BTW - I'm in the ATL area.
Blantons top on a rock hill farms bottle
What does Daniel mean the Dark Cove was ramped up? Im pretty sure that was just a standard Ardbeg special release and you cant find it on shelves anymore. Please tell me I am mistaken. Also how many garbage Canadian whiskeys are we going to have to suffer through before we get an Uigeadail and a Grooves review?
Steve M Dark Cove was a special release. It was first a Committee Release, than they water it down for a regular special release. They only made it for 1 year as far as I'm aware.. So it will continue to go up in price until its almost impossible to get.
So...I actually just found a store that is a big chain in a state next to mine with locations not too far from me that has an online website that claims they have the Dark Cove available with a few stores claiming to have either 1 unit or 5 units. That's not all, the going rate is $110 per bottle. I ordered 5 bottles and am awaiting a confirmation email to tell me my order is ready for pickup at the location nearest me. Mind you, this is the standard release, not the CR, but based on everything I have heard, this is the best special release from my absolute favorite distillery. I plan to open 1 bottle within a short period of time and stash away the other 4 that I can cherish throughout the years.
"The moose's ear is bleeding." Jaysus, the whisky is called Caribou. It's not a moose.
Give it to Chad! Give it to Chad! Don’t worry man I got your back. (In the dark mooch voice) Give the people what they want. Chad must get ALL thine whiskey.
Is there a single Canadian whiskey you actually like?
Probably should have put on the label that the animal is a Caribou on top. The name of the whiskey is obviously too subtle for these guys.
Its Weller SP single Barrel for Canada. Every time I have Weller SP , it's the same underwhelming experience.
90$ here in canada
Isn't this a sazerac product???
I'm shocked to learn that people in Texas have never seen a moose
We have moose in Colorado.......they stay up in the mountains moosely! Lol!
😂 😂
Caribou is far more delicious than Moose: Rudolf the well done reindeer!
As I sit here watching, I wonder. . . How many MB's paused the video to look into this Ardbeg Space? 🤔
That looks like a Kelsey Creek single barrel bottle
Lots of great ballbusting in this one... and where the heck is christina? Of all videos for her not to rush for first...
John Verstraete I know.. Right!
Thought that was a Michael Jackson scream for a minute there.
Sad day... nothing wrong with easy background whiskeys but you can find those for a lot cheaper. No fiddly bits but more in your wallet.
Love U SOMM oh ya and that mooch
Looks like a Rock Hills Farm bottle as well ..
Probably bottled at Buffalo Trace..lol
If they had a video next to BS in the dictionary it would be Daniel's answer to the question about Glengoyne 10 v. 12. :)
hahahahahahahaha
Don’t laugh too hard if you haven’t gone back and watched!! Loved the video today!! Who knew Sean Penn would show up!!
"Fancy" Canadian whiskey
Deer Somme and Mooch. That's a Caribou, not a moose.
"Jason Voorhies," eh?
Bottle cam sass!
I remember the ~3000 subs days. The comments had way more replies. Understand though, success brings hoards of sleazy groupies. TNT bastards.
Ardbeg sickle
ITS A CARIBOU
I would still put this on my pancakes
its secretly just canadian blantons :P
oh and single barrel canadian whiskey's do exist, however they arent always true single barrels. sometimes after blending the whiskey is further aged in another new/used barrel. a few craft whiskies have been done where the final blend gets aged another 4 years and then bottled like a single barrel whiskey.
some distilleries also dont even age before blending. others just age then blend then bottle. weird thing about canadian whiskey, our rules are more or less just guidelines, and pretty much every distillery has their own way of doing it thats pretty different from everyone else.
Looks like a Cardhu bottle.
I hope I'm this successful oneday
Nice is the little brother of boring, in Whisky-language
Not a bloody moose! ;-)
Too bad on the 40%. I wonder if the complexity would be increased at say 46% or above. As is, it sounds like you guys found it to be smooth, friendly, yet boring. You didn’t even really give any tasting notes! For shame! 😉
🥃
Review just like the Blanton's review "it's just ok".... Not worth the price in end of the country
Tools. Calling it a moose and the name is printed on the bottle.
