Well aye, but everything fun reduces your life expectancy. Alcohol damages your liver, smoking damages your lungs, drugs damage your brain, so many foods increase your risk of heart disease. Frankly I'd rather live a short life filled with little pleasures than live a century as an ascetic.

I will argue I'm getting into cocktails, mostly the classics; Martini, Negroni. I tend to favor gin, another quality spirit produced by new distilleries. To that end, I recommend the Rob Roy cocktail. Its base sprits is scotch whisky!

I like negroni, gin martini, French martini, and margarita.

  • @Ginias12
    @Ginias12 3 месяца назад +3

I’ve actually always heard to add the spirit last, because if you mess up part way through you won’t have to toss out the most expensive part. Though I suppose with loose leaf tea and red label that’s not necessarily the case 😅

I have a margarita recipe that is clean, authentic, and good:
    A pour of tequila
    One full lime’s juice
    A teaspoon of agave nectar
    One ounce of sparkling water
    Ice
This is proof that cocktails are not a universal evil and once you try this you will probably agree.

I know this is going to sound crazy. I was at someone home. There not really whiskey drinkers. More gin and tequila.
The did have a bottle of Canadian club 12 yo. I have had the regular cc. Never had the 12.
I was pleased with it. To the point I got a bottle myself.
I never been that big on Canadian whiskey. That what my dad and his friends drank back in the 70s. The real good ones to. Lol ( hunter, mist, black velvet and r@r)
I went to Bourbon. That might be why I like the 12. It says it was aged in Bourbon barrels.

As much as I like most of my whisky neat, you'll take my Manhattans away from my cold dead hands 😆
Annual bourbon cherry making with local cherries is an annual tradition. They only get used in Manhattans.
Love a good rye and Antica vermouth Manhattan, 2 oz rye, 1 oz Antica, 2 dashes bitters, stir strain and plop in a homemade bourbon 🍒 and I'm a happy man.

Smoke (unless intentional like with lapsang) is typically actually a bad quality marker in tea, it shows that the production methods weren't that great and there's likely PAH's on them, which you pull out in the infusion so be aware of that. Having said that that goes for most smoked products out there. Just like with many things it's a matter of dose.

I can't let go of my bartender side even though I like exploring whiskies. As it was previously discussed with whisky blending, I can really appreciate a well done Penicillin, which saves me some money on the high quality peated whiskies while also being more adequate to some friends of mine, whose taste buds haven't quite grown up to drink straight from the cask.

Effervescent review, Ralphy. I have been nudged in the direction of trying this myself. I'll probably use a splash of some Lagavulin I still have lingering in my little whiskey library. For that matter, I'll try this with a few different malts I have hanging around come to think of it.....

Dragon Well? Johnnie never had it so good-- that's some fine tea. Dragon Well has a round, vegetal, boiled celery -like note that I never liked. But maybe with a bit of whisky it would be just great! Love me some Jasmine Pearls though. I wonder if there's a whisky to pair with that.

Honey aroma kind of covers anything and stays on the palate for quite some time for me. It's ok if you know very well what you cover, otherwise it gets in the way if you're tasting to get all the subtle notes.

Mine would be with chilled tomato juice, a sprinkle freshly ground pepper and salt with a, squeeze lemon juice from the garden . Whiskey bourbon vodka don't matter too much I guess but a minimum of a decent blend like Ballantynes 12 certainly improves it I warm up with a couple of those in warmer months then after I've limbered up have a couple of single malts as the main event. Anything else seems too sweet for my taste these days I find.

    Whisky+Lime?
    60ml Scotch
    30ml fresh lime juice
20ml simple syrup or honey syrup (or, an amount to taste ...)
    1. Pour all in a stainless-steel shaker.
    2. Add ice & shake until shaker is too cold to touch ...
    3. Strain into a serving glass ...

  • @Nasosdag

Ι agree with everything you say about plastics and refined sugar and I try to apply the advice in my life.
However... I would take an Old Fashioned (made either with a sugar cube or a tiny bit of home-made sugar syrup) over any soft-drink- or fruit-juice mixed cocktail. Done properly and sparinlgy the amount of sugar in an OF is not that bad. Occasionally you can have a riff with maple or agave syrup.
I must try your suggestion with the green tea!

Going back about 25 years ago I had a source of cask strength Glenfiddich from a local bottle shop for not a lot more than the regular. Came home to find my flatmate had committed the near life ending (for him) sin of pouring Coke over some of my stash. He then compounded that Sin by saying 'it didn't taste very good anyway'. How I didn't murder him that evening where he stood took extreme restraint

Great rant as usual Ralfy. Agreed on many points. I think many people are aware of plastic pollution, especially microplastics. On drinks; For me personally, I choose to drink "zero" soda drinks like coca cola zero. I like the taste of cola, and love natural colas like fever tree or fentiman's for example but can't have that amount of sugar in my diet or I'll become morbidly obese, and perhaps even develop diabetes. So yes, sucralose it is. Life is full of imperfect choices and calculated risk, isn't it?
P.S: Paradoxically, one of the best natural colas was Red Bull cola. It had little to do with the horrible energy drink, but rather was a fully natural cola where you could actually identify the various herbs and spices used in the flavouring on the nose and palate. Haven't seen it on the shelves in years. Probably didn't appeal to the regular Red Bull consumers.

problem is, that even if you buy water in glass bottle, chances are that water flows through plastic in the bottling factory anyway. plus there’s the cap, also with a small amount of plastic layer inside. so yeah, glass bottled waters also contain micro plastics (proven) just a bit less. can’t escape that shit… 😔

I wish here in EU there were more of the 'returnable' bottles like there is in Argentina and likely in most, if not all, South America. I really enjoyed buying any of the sodas that are bottled in glass because the taste is miles better than plastic as you've said, as well as the obvious thing; not plastic, though hard plastic 'returnable' bottles also exist in Southamerica.
I know there's a 1.5l glass bottle Coke but it doesn't work the same as in Argentina, however you can still reuse it for your own convenience. Also the plastic part is all correct and the fact it's so widespread and no one really talks about it is sadly true.

    100% classic Ralfy 🤣......love it!
However, absolutely bang on with plastics and sugars (direct and indirectly consumed) - dreadful. The rant was more than justified!
    As for cocktails..........NAH 😵, never!

I agree if your going to the effort to make a cocktail why use crap ingredients that will eventually effect your health in the near future. Got to rethink my love of Coke Cola and other sodas in plastic bottles. 0:27
