That was how John Walker Kilmarnock started. He did his own blending and sold it in his shop. The rest is history including closing down the blending and bottling plant in Kilmarnock. Very good information as always.
Marketing is a needed evil. Any brand will want to listen for positive buzz and play off it, and if there is none they’ll want to try to start it. This used to be done simply by the bottle shape and the label. Then by ornate boxes, but now it’s all that and into the internet, TV, store promos, bar girls offering samples and so much more. Fair play, doesn’t bother me as long as the bottlings are still good and affordable.
Hello Ralfy, excellent extras as always! There are some IB's out there releasing good single casks for a good and fair price, while we have distilleries such as Ardbeg, who release their version of single casks for ridiculous amount of $$$$, and think their sh!t smells like roses 😡
I wish there were IB by me. The only IB I have ever seen in any stores by me was a Gordon and Macphail 8 year Loch Lomond. I would love to find a G&M Highland Park or an Old Pulteney or Ardbeg. However I doubt I ever will without traveling to a big city.
Loads of those you mentioned i havent heard of man i will have to be doing some digging . You got me onto Thomposn bros stuff ive already made 2 or 3 orders with them direct. So far the best whisky ive had has been from their various offerings . Currently been sipping on a Bere Barley 2013 really nice..... and also Glencadam 13 yr old .....and a Dumangin Glenrothes 2007 champagne cask which ive been enjoying a lot. The glencadam 13 is actually class for the price of it , left in the glass for like half an hour it turns into something sensational .
Very difficult to keep up with IB’s and it seems like no matter what you’re taking some risk. Anyone ever had a Hepburn’s Choice bottling? Seems like good prices but is there quality?
Ralfy thank you for the reviews. I have really started getting into sipping whisky. I have had some bottles for years but never manage to muster up the courage to open a £500 bottle until recently. It's only recently I was thinking if I would ever buy a whisky from an independent boiler. I just wanted to buy original but then having watched this video it's really given me a different perspective. Would you be able to recommend a high end independent botler you know are good. I think you may have mentioned it in the video but I couldn't make out who they were. What do you think of signatory or hard to find as independent bottlers. Thank you friend.
What was the name for the wine/whisky shop on George St, Edinburgh? I remember walking up a set of steps to the entrance. Fantastic whisky when it was so cheap !
Hi Malties do you think Ralfy should review Jeremy Clarkson Gin. It might get a good ratings. May be he could pass it to Brother Clive to get bizzy with the fizzy soda stream on it.

Great show as usual and timely. FedEx this morning delivered a Gordon & Macphail Cask Strength 14 yr old Bunnahabhain.
I still read magazines! So much better than reading a screen.

What is your opinion of independent bottler Alexander and Murray who is the big provider for Costco?
