Richard is spot-on about the river Test being a chalk stream. They're fed by aquifers so they don't have much seasonal change to them and they're remarkably clear. Fun fact, of the 210 worldwide rivers classified as chalk streams, 160 are located in England.
Please do more of this, I was starting to feel like I was actually there with you. And regarding what Mr Hammond could do I believe that you've already done it, you mastered the art of surviving serious car accidents, admittedly it's a difficult thing to share with others but nevertheless it's a remarkable achievement that must be acknowledged.
This proves what I've said many times in the past - these lads could sit around, talking about absolutely anything and it would be interesting and enjoyable.
"It wasn't fashionable." "No, it was an old person's drink." I don't think they've quite made the leap to the fact that Gin hasn't changed, they've just become old.
No, gin is very fashionable. I work with a bunch of 20/30-something nurses, and all they drink is gin and prosecco. It's not an old person's drink now.
It's fashionable now because the Gin Act of 1751, which prohibited small Gin Distilleries in London, was repealed in 2008. Thanks to that act being repealed, small volume craft gin distilleries were now legal. Couple that with Gin being mentioned in popular TV shows like The Crown & Downtown Abbey and bartenders now having more gin options than Gordon's, Beefeater, or Bombay Sapphire... Suddenly you have a new Gin Craze.
No, gin has changed enormously, and the resurgence of cocktails in the food and drink scene has resulted in tons of people in their 20s taking interest in Gin. It's not 60 yr old accountants slopping gin in their tea at luch from a bottle with Yeoman of the Guard shilling it on the bottle label anymore.
this partnership is absolutely timeless. Protect these gentlemen at all costs. whether its a video about gin or poached eggs, include either one of these men (including clarkson) im there!!
I have been a car guy my whole life and as a result watched top gear and later the grand tour. I have to say though, these guys and the trio as a whole are the reason I loved both. This has to be one of my favorite “what’s next” videos topped only by the Lego drinking challenge. I genuinely feel like if what’s next covers all the topics Richard talked about in the last video and adds the banter of 2 or 3 of them then they are on to something. Things I love plus them makes me happy.
Whoever thought to catch James' side-eye pop when someone asks him a funny or odd question is the genius the world needs more of. Just that cut sends me every time.
Fun fact: Loads of new Gin brands popped up in Ireland over the last several years. Most of these are new distillers awaiting licenses to make whiskey (an excellent investment). Gin is very easy to produce. The sheer choice and marketing of this modern gin had a big effect on how trendy it is. Having said that gin is a superb beverage.
makes sense, same behavior in the U.S. Get out a few quick products while the real barrel aged products take their time. Though the real gimmick in the US is blending other people's stuff then slapping your label on it.
Splendid post chaps, the botanical Richard is on about in River Test Gin is Meadowsweet, they do also use Angelica as well, but Meadowsweet grows in boggy damp ground neat clear rivers. I have had bottles of both Asian Parsnip and the Navy Strength and they are great gins.

It's every time a pleasure to see you guys. It's fun and entertainment on a higher level. Well, you're British, and the British sense of humor is special. I think nothing is more bad than buying something, specially drinks, and than you realise, it was a bad idea. The price you call is, I think, realistic. Not too much, and it shows you "Your not buying a Gin like many others". Sunny greetings from Bremerhaven, Germany
As I recall, the Gin botanical Richard is talking about is called Meadowsweet. I'm sure I remember hearing the name on some documentary or something years ago. I googled the name and it seems to fit Hammond's description in that it grows in clean chalk streams and The River Test Disillary use it in their London Dry Gin.

Or maybe he is either confusing it with something or just plain ol' misinformed. Either way my money is on Meadowsweet
I could see him getting RAPIDLY wasted drinking it, I mean it's a _VERY_ small body Hammond's been afflicted with, with which to soak up that much alcohol.

A couple of national treasures chatting. I'd happily listen to these blokes talk about the weather.
For the love of whatever gods you believe in please do more of these. We could honestly watch and listen to these two for hours.
It is not just “two blokes having a drink” but “Richard and James bantering about”.
Anything this trio (Jeremy included) do, together or seperately is always gold!!!
I think these two have had a bromance for years. There's a genuine bond between them and I really enjoy listening to their chats. James' voice is comforting to listen to.
“That’s the navy strength then?”
James: “yeozz”
“Shall we try it then?”
James: “yeozz”
I don’t know why but James’ “yes” made me laugh
Its very Clarkson like.
"Clarkson, unlimited power?"
"yeozz"
@@aaabbb356 yeozz
Reminds me of Jon Pertwee
The genuine chemistry between these two is amazing
The little smile when he says "Yes" to the offer of a bottle.
Off cuff James and Hammond is gold content
Clarkson would disagree
The way they scuff "thats alright, idn't it" cracks me up...thank you James and Richard for all you do.
Love the chemistry between these guys. They're hilarious.
0:10 I have no idea why, but the zoom into Hammond's face as he reacted got me in tears.
Also, Hammond's thing about people stealing his things gave me an idea for the name of his eventual drink: Richard Hammond's Trailblazer.
This editor needs more credit, absolutely hilarious touches
Fun conversation you had in the video. I just ordered an Asian parsnip. I had to do it.
Yes, this is exactly the thing you want to watch on a Sunday evening. Thanks, chaps!
chaps?
@@arunodg5536 ... guys, men = chaps!
@@Tidybitz no i just find it odd that a russian guy is saying chaps
Honestly, if this two made a show it would be a hit.
This proves what I've said many times in the past - these lads could sit around, talking about absolutely anything and it would be interesting and enjoyable.
Glad they are all still doing things for the fans that love to watch them.
I could easily do an hour of you 2 and Clarkson having a drink and chatting about whatever. This was fun to watch!
Please make this a monthly podcast where a combination of the 3 - Richard, James and Jeremy drinking a drink and talking as this is actually great
"It wasn't fashionable."
"No, it was an old person's drink."
I don't think they've quite made the leap to the fact that Gin hasn't changed, they've just become old.
@@jm40004 1751 wow. What was the reasoning behind the act? I can't imagine how crazy the drinking in London must have been at that time.
Gin has evolved a lot in the last few decades
No, gin has changed enormously, and the resurgence of cocktails in the food and drink scene has resulted in tons of people in their 20s taking interest in Gin. It's not 60 yr old accountants slopping gin in their tea at luch from a bottle with Yeoman of the Guard shilling it on the bottle label anymore.
I could watch these chaps banter all day! THIS is what made TG so great! The only thing better, would be if Clarkson were here.
You're not even British, why appropriate the vernacular
@@GaiusCaligula234 why the negative? Let's have fun mate!
@@davidicusrex Where am I being negative, I'm simply asking a question
@@GaiusCaligula234 "You're not even British" sounds like a compliment

Love James and Richard so much they’ve entertained us for so many years
As does Jeremy..🤨
low key way asking to bring the series back........ either way gents always appreciate the bond
this partnership is absolutely timeless. Protect these gentlemen at all costs. whether its a video about gin or poached eggs, include either one of these men (including clarkson) im there!!
Sadly, I'm not sure Clarkson has got a whole lot of time to appear in their videos as he's got quite a large farm to run! 🤣

Just tried my first James Gin. Done the Hammond way in giant glass with loads of ice. Very enjoyable. Thanks chaps.
You two have made my morning. I could watch any of you three pedantically drone on about literally anything. The chemistry between y’all is unmatched. Love you guys. Miss you guys. (I may have matched you 1:1 in the G&T category, if you couldn’t tell)
Thanks to you guys I finally I found my drink that doesn't give me hangover and doesn't make me drink a lot of it.
Elegant crisp tones, discerning, intelligent conversation with subtle wit and humorous articulation. You try getting that with "Paddeh" and "Freddeh".
As a longtime fan of the boys ( the originals ) It stands to reason I prefer them..but i find your arrant snobbery distasteful, and whilst they ( Paddy and Freddy ) speak with a broad accent , it does not mean that they are lesser for the fact.. I would argue that YOU are the one diminished…
From what I can tell, this is becoming the best YT channel...in the world.
Not going to lie, I would watch you guys, (all three of you), doing pretty much anything.
Sitting here with a bottle of James' Gin and drinking along with two legends.
Seeing James and Richard enjoying a drink satisfies my soul. Thank you, gentlemen.
They always sound like they're a couple of guys having a casual chat, and not following a script (or doing a gin infomercial!) Always watchable
This is what gets me, it doesn't matter the mix. Be it Jeremy and James, James and Hammond, Hammond and Jeremy or all three. The chemistry just works. They are thoroughly enjoyable regardless.
l genuinely love watching interactions between Hammond, May & Clarkson as there is a unique magic to them that that 3 can only bring to a conversation that bring joy to my life but they make me sad at the same time because l know each one is one closer to the last one which will be a great loss. Hope we have many more decades of Hammond, May & Clarkson sunsets before the sun sets for the last time.
Please, let them continue for ever! They really are so perfect together. whoever got them together deserves a medal.
I could watch these 2 just talk any time of the day
It's every time a pleasure to see you guys. It's fun and entertainment on a higher level. Well, you're British, and the British sense of humor is special. What I know about it, it's so many, but could say: never cheap, solid and often with little dose ironic.
I hope could taste the gin on a gin tasting, before I buy it. I think nothing is more bad than buying something, specially drinks, and than you realise, it was a bad idea.
The price you call is, I think, realistic. Not too much, and it shows you "Your not buying a Gin like many others".
Sunny greetings from Bremerhaven, Germany
Love and compassion open our own inner life, reducing stress, distrust and loneliness.
I had the same thought, although it could also be a subspecies of Angelica, as Meadowsweet isn't all that rare
@@Mjws2907 yeah that threw me off too. James did suggest Angelica and Hammond said no. Those are the contenders I guess. I suppose we'll never know for sure.
@@Mjws2907 Yeah that threw me too. Upon second viewing, I caught that when James specifically mentions Angelica Root, Richard says "No, It was Meadow-something...". Maybe this particular Meadowsweet is "rare" not because the plant itself is rare but because water that clean is rare and that makes it taste better or something. Or maybe he is either confusing it with something or just plain ol' misinformed. Either way my money is on Meadowsweet
make this into a series!!! just you two and clarkson drinking! :D great stuff
Conveniently received my bottle of James Gin today. I made a gin and tonic and drank it as I watched this video. What a great day!
How is it? I love gin with Bombay sapphire 57.5% being my favorite
"this must be gripping for the viewers. Two gents... having a drink." It was gripping. It was incredibly gripping.
I feel very gripped right now.
idk why but I just love the way Hammo says "James" its just so soft 🥹
I could see Hammond getting slowly wasted drinking the navy strength 🤣 great video lads. Cheers 🍻
I could see him getting RAPIDLY wasted drinking it, I mean it's a _VERY_ small body Hammond's been afflicted with, with which to soak up that much alcohol.
This has got to be my new favorite video. It's got alcohol, a couple of fun & intelligent Brits, making conversation like only old chums can do. Brilliant! Oh, and I just ordered the James Navy Strength Batch 2. Can't wait til it gets here.
It has finally arrived. I will be busy trying to imitate the Inimitable James May this afternoon. Cheers!
One of the best things about *cough* Top Gear *cough* and Grand Tour was just watching these 2 (3) talking about...nothing. And I loved it.
And I love this. Just watching them faff about is pure genius.
This is just superb, a testament to the englishman. Love it
I do love that to an extent, Hammond and May get along outside of making shows together. You can tell that they’re coworkers, not friends, but it is fun to see that chemistry they’ve always had outside of the setting of GT or Top Gear.
I could hear these two just talking about anything for hours and hours, great video today.
"Side Road Crashed Apples" - cider by Richard Hammond. Sounds delicious.
This was an absolute treat to watch
A gripping video, indeed. I still enjoyed it immensely. I'd watch these guys talk about anything, honestly.
The bottles remind me of 1970s chemistry lessons at school........
