It's a good idea to read the owners manual, says use CCI Maxi Mag 40 grain right in the instructions. Says it won't work with 30 grain right in the manual.
It does discourage using 30 grain in the manual. That is dated information. The 30 grain V Max are relatively new and they will work in my PMR-30. In fact, they are the most accurate.
I love mine it's a blast to shoot now I think I've got it broken in not too many jamming issues coupled with fixing the magazines with some of that glue the five minute or 5 Seconds fix now all I need is that FN five-seven by 28
you do have to be careful when you load the magazines. If you don't follow the instructions you will cause it to malfunction. I did have some funtion issues after about 1000 rounds and a case head seperation with CCI ammo. Sent it back to Keltec and they fixed it. Fun gun to shoot.
If testing, make sure you use some self-defense type ammo like the ones from Speer or Hornady. I don't see the price of ammo as objectionable b/c I don't compare it to bucket priced 22 LR. I think more in terms of buying 50 rounds of defensive .22 Mag HP from Speer vs equivalent quality ammo for a .380 or even a 9MM. Considering the ease of shooting and the controllability of the gun, would some be better off practicing with and using this than her Glock 19 in a home/self defense situation? In terms of recoil and controllability I say yes, especially for those who are recoil sensitive. In terms of noise? No better as a 22 Mag is loud, especially inside a structure.
It is the most expensive paperweight I ever bought. Constant failures to feed, did some of the mods on youtube that didn't help. Returned to Keltec 3 months ago!! Called customer service to see whats up. Left a message, name, serial number and phone number. No response at all. Buy at your own risk!
I was interested in one of these a few years ago but every comment I've ever seen from owners say it's a malfunction monster. The only positive comments I think I've ever read are those on here. This gun has been so maligned by owners for so long it's strange not to see a bunch of scathing comments. Has this gun been redesigned or upgraded or something or was it's reputation for malfunctions overblown to begin with? Just curious because it's the whole reason why I stayed away from one. A few years ago I bought a stainless 4.62" Ruger Single Six Convertible with a .22LR and .22WMR cylinder. I get that the 4.62" barrel gives up some velocity but I bought it as a "fun to shoot" gun (which it VERY much is) first and a "survival" gun second so the shorter barrel is perfect in those two cases. I can see the potential for the PMR-30 as a lightweight "SOS" gun carried in a backpack or even on a belt. Although it's a bit big and bulky for belt carry while hiking or camping (another reason I like my little Single Six).
The first generation was total crap. I own a second gen (released in 2016) one and have put about 500 rounds through it without any problems. If you buy one used make sure its not a first gen they are totally craptastic. The second gen is great.
A good hand gun and great company to buy from. Any problems with it they will take it back and fix it for free provided you bought it with in a specified amount of time.
I purchased one and it malfunctions about every 3rd or fourth shot, no matter what ammunition I use, would not recommend this gun and I even did the upgrades and still have the same problem.
A 22 mag will kill anything with proper bullet placement.

I just got a brand new one and I love it! 30 rounds baby!! :D

Listening to this video on my way to pick one up!!!

Would be a fun gun to play with. Love those stills of the fire ring.
ballistics gel testing would be interesting...
I've had one for awhile . Its great .
Got one just like it on layaway' my brother got a gen 2 and has had NO WORRIES' can't wait to get mine .
What year are the gen 2
Could you test the aguila .22 wmr ammo?

Pretty cool and 30 rounds in a handgun is sick.
Don’t forget about those magazine springs
Is that gun a gen2?
I've wanted one forever, however I can never find one in stock.
They're everywhere now. CDNN usually always has them.
You didn’t talk about the trigger??
Why would you not use the ammo that is recommended in the owners manual?
Do you naturally say stupid shiet on a daily basis or did Mommy call you special today
22 mag is a good round

A Ruger 57 alternative! Going to get one and sell the 57 with over priced exotic ammo. 22 magnum ammo much more available.
Went to a gun show this weekend: 12/11/21
22 Mag @ $16 for 50 rounds
5.7 @ $47 for 50 rounds.

If you could replace the site when the plastic slide takes a hit and designates , and they will break this way.
Also need a threaded barrel.

It won't penetrate level IIIA. Maybe some level II..
Buffman - R.A.N.G.E. It WILL penetrate clothes, skin and bones!
How accurate is the gun ?
Accurate as the shooter
don't you lose almost all of the velocity gained by the 22 mag shooting it out of a short barrel in a pistol?
Yeap
Yes, just like with every other kind of ammo. I would not consider a 5" barrel to be short however.
JACKnJESUS agreed. 2” is short in 22 mag :)
Check out ballistics by the inch awesome sight
Longer the barrel, better the power burns to force the bullet out accurately
I'm surprised it didn't jam on you. It never makes it through a full magazine.
Mine has. Over and over. Unlike the smith and Wesson sigma when they came out
Hasnt****
Mine ,shoots rnd. After rnd. Like a champ ! Lube it big time !!!
I have had 2 of these, both were very unreliable jamamatics. Trash gun.
wow you fired 10 rds without a jam. i think you are the very 1st person to have ever done this. this is the most unreliable P.O.S there is
Great! Oh wait, it's a Kel-Tec. Pass
